The hip-hop world is ablaze today thanks to Kendrick Lamar’s new song, with every corner of the culture chiming in either with a dismissive “No thanks” or enthusiastic breakdowns. Many folks wonder whether this is a Drake diss, an album rollout kickoff, or something else entirely. But the main point of discussion for many in the rap game is all the criticism that K.Dot has for the culture: the media industries, the consumers, the influencers, etc. Well, The Breakfast Club discussed this new untitled track, which is going by many names in the discourse right now. Charlamagne Tha God’s take was particularly interesting because of its assessment of Kendrick’s goals.

“It’s very dope,” Charlamagne Tha God said of Kendrick Lamar’s new song. “Like you said, Lauren, I don’t believe the record is just about Drake. I think he’s talking about just the culture. People in the world, society, the industry, media. And I’ma tell you something, Kendrick: you gon’ drive yourself crazy, okay? Of course, this is a pretty common sentiment online, at least for those that agree with Kendrick Lamar’s thoughts on the culture. Many see the fight for hip-hop’s “soul” as a losing battle, much like what Charlamagne Tha God expressed. But there are hundreds of turns of phrases we could use here to symbolize that change doesn’t happen overnight. It’s clear that there’s still a lot more left in this saga that will inform this move.

Meanwhile, a lot of folks wonder what Kendrick Lamar’s next move will be. While this seems like a pretty surefire album rollout, we also can’t really predict anything when it comes to him. With that in mind, we’ll just have to be patient and stay on our toes.

Last night, Kendrick Lamar took the internet by storm by surprise releasing a new track on Instagram. The song, which fans have dubbed “Watch the Party Die,” sees him pick apart the music industry and modern culture. At different points, he even namedrops Christian rappers Lecrae and Dee-1, applauding them for their character.

“Sometimes I wonder what Lecrae would do / F*ck these n***as up or show ’em just what prayer do?” he rhymes towards the end of the song. “I want to be empathetic, my heart like Dee-1 / But I would—,” he spits at another point, omitting an apparent threat. Of course, Dee-1 and Lecrae wasted no time and quickly took to Twitter/X to share their reactions to the shoutout.

“Love you Dot…. Always here,” Lecrae wrote simply alongside a prayer emoji. Dee-1 shared an old photo of him and Kendrick, thanking him for mentioning him and delivering a hopeful remark about the future. “I appreciate the shoutout brother. @kendricklamar [heart emoji] More than you’ll ever know. A shift is happening. The time is now! [prayer emoji].” As expected, Dee-1 and Lecrae are far from the only ones to share their reactions to Kendrick’s new song recently.

Shortly after it dropped, for example, DJ Akademiks took to his comments section with a brief but telling message. “No no noooo,” he wrote. Drake Allegedly Couldn’t Help But Laugh About Kendrick Lamar Super Bowl Announcement

With Kendrick Lamar being the official Halftime Show performer at this year’s Super Bowl, there are a lot of angles to this headline. Obviously, the most glaring thing to dissect is that Lil Wayne was not chosen yet again to grace one of the biggest stages in music. People are especially upset given the fact that the championship game is once again in New Orleans (third time in the last 22 years). However, the other way to look at this is, “How will this affect The Boy”? The feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has been a major talking point all year for a lot of reasons.

Pretty recently, the Canadian rapper was indirectly offering up a round two to K-Dot. However, the latter seems to be pretty uninterested based on his pretty obvious response in the announcement video. “You know it’s only one opportunity to win a championship. No round two’s“. Since that earth-shattering move, Drizzy has been silent on the matter. But according to MAL of New Rory & MAL podcast, he’s got some tea to spill direct from the source.

MAL revealed he allegedly spoke with Drake casually, but the Super Bowl announcement came up as well. Rory asked his co-host if he could reveal any of what was said between them; however, MAL went against providing any details. However, what he did say was “A lot of it was just laughing, man. It’s just like ‘word this is what y’all want to see? Like okay’”. Based on what MAL had to say, it seems he’s against the choice and is team Drizzy all the way. His co-hosts argued against MAL’s claims that no one wants to see Lamar, using Nicki Minaj as the example of being the entire internet. Fans in the comment section were quick to roast him for that. “I guess Nicki Minaj is “the whole internet”, one X user replies to the clip.

But hardcore listeners know that he kept releasing music all throughout, and that he still had a lot of compelling ideas and creative decisions in his art. Moreover, many hip-hop figures have commented on how the Atlanta artist’s legacy will change and evolve now that he’s no longer with us, with some thinking that this reappraisal is coming off as fake from a few select MCs and producers out there. DJ Akademiks expressed a similar sentiment on his livestream. Specifically, he compared this situation to another recent rap tragedy. “There’s so many Atlanta rappers who I’ve seen chime in, as well,” Ak began. “I haven’t posted all of them, honestly.

“The reason why I didn’t post all of them is ’cause I got the feeling that I felt when I was talking to PnB Rock,” DJ Akademiks continued. “I can tell you how the PnB Rock interview happened. However, after letting it marinate and noticing when Drake put out his most recent 100gigs.org three-pack, he’s now fully of that same belief.

In a major plot twist, the controversial host actually had the complete opposite reaction to “Supersoak (SOD)”, “No Face”, and “Circadian Rhythm”.
