Hulu Shares The First Look At Their Upcoming ‘RapCaviar’ Docuseries Featuring Tyler The Creator And Pharrell Williams

One of Spotify’s top hip-hop playlists is jumping from audio formats to visual ones. Next month, RapCaviar will debut its docuseries, RapCaviar Presents on Hulu, with seven episodes featuring stories by some of the best hip-hop acts of our time.

Several artists are set to appear in RapCaviar Presents, including City Girls, Jack Harlow, Polo G, Roddy Ricch, Coi Leray, Tyler The Creator, and Pharrell Williams.

In a sneak peek clip of the series, the latter two reflect on how the two met. Tyler recalls working with Pharrell for the first time and how the superproducer inspired him to switch up his sound. Pharell then shared a lesson he learned from Jimmy Iovine early on in his career.

In other episodes, RapCaviar Presents will offer “a deep dive into current events that untangles important subjects and offers a view of the world from an artist’s perspective,” according to a press release.

Karam Gill serves as the series’ executive producer, as well as its creative director. Carl Chery, who oversees the playlist and its accompanying podcast, will oversee creative on the show, alongside Liz Gateley.

All seven episodes of RapCaviar Presents will arrive on Hulu on March 30.

RapCaviar Drops A New Trailer For Its Official Podcast

One of Spotify’s most buzzy playlists is getting a companion podcast. Launching Tuesday, August 4, RapCaviar will debut their official podcast exclusively on Spotify.

Earlier this month, RapCaviar also announced that an eight-episode docuseries based on the playlist is in development at Hulu.

Hosted by journalist and media personality Brandon “Jinx” Jenkins, RapCaviar will touch on an assortment of topics, with each episode featuring groups of hip-hop tastemakers. In the trailer, Jinx and crew are seen discussing Kendrick Lamar‘s best albums, Jack Harlow’s place in the space of hip-hop, and who will be rap’s savior.

In an interview with Variety, the playlist’s official curator, Carl Cherry, explained why he wanted to add a video and audio component to his iconic playlist. According to Cherry, the podcast has been two years in the making.

“I always had the opinion that a playlist is not enough,” Cherry said. “You look at other outlets that were important throughout hip-hop history, whether it’s XXL or the blog era, there’s always context. They were able to contextualize whatever they’d present to you. It’s different when you go on RapCaviar, you see the songs and that’s it. It’s important to us to create these different channels where we can add context and speak to what’s important to us and the culture.”

Moneybagg Yo and Latto Perform at Inaugural All-RapCaviar Experience in Los Angeles

In recognition of the third annual All-RapCaviar lineup for the international audio streaming service, Spotify and its premier hip-hop playlist, RapCaviar, hosted the first-ever All-RapCaviar event in Los Angeles. The social-first initiative, which was inspired by the All-NBA squad that honors the league’s top players, recognized outstanding artists from the streaming giants’ wildly popular playlist, naming Yeat as Rookie of the Year, Young Thug as Coach of the Year, and Kendrick Lamar as MVP of the Year.

The location was changed into a real-world representation of the All-RapCaviar campaign. The experience was exceptional, involving a sizable half-basketball court, a decked-out locker room photo opportunity complete with crystal-encrusted basketballs, and a Hall of Fame wall displaying a letterman blazer created by Jeff Hamilton just for Drake. When attendees needed a break from the dance floor, they relaxed in the Xbox lounge and played a variety of games on consoles decorated by RapCaviar artists.

Latto and MoneyBagg Yo gave unforgettable performances in front of VIPs, business insiders, important guests, and diehard RapCaviar fans to round off the evening. With a set that energized the crowd and featured classics like “Time Today” and “Wockesha,” Moneybagg Yo opened the show. GloRilla also made a surprise appearance during a performance of “F.N.F. (Let’s Go).” Shortly after, Latto energized the crowd with a mix of her biggest singles, including “Big Energy,” “777 Pt. 1,” “It’s Givin,” “B*tch From Da Souf,” and others. Additionally, DJs Zack Bia, Jadaboo, and Chase B kept the energy up all night long with the newest RapCaviar tracks.

“RapCaviar is the best of the best,” Lil Durk said ahead of the event. “It’s the place where fans go to listen to their favorite songs that represent our culture. I appreciate Spotify for naming me First Team All RapCaviar for the second year in a row. Recognition like this motivates me to keep going harder and get better.”

Numerous famous people were spotted at the party, including French Montana, Amber Rose and her boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards, Justin and Christian Combs, Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi of Rae Sremmurd, Bryson Tiller, R&B duo DVSN, rappers Flo Milli, Coi Leray, DDG, Westside Boogie, OG Maco, Symba, actress Paige Hurd (of Starz’ Power Book II: Ghost), rapper

“Every rapper wants to be a baller and every baller wants to be a rapper. We kicked off the All-RapCaviar franchise on social two years ago but after seeing such a positive response from fans online, we decided to bring it to life for real,” says Carl Chery, Creative Director, Head of Urban Music at Spotify. “This is a digital campaign that taps our audience to share who they think should win MVP & Rookie of The Year; allowing fans to really share their opinions and encourage a little friendly debate online. We look forward to creating these moments for our listeners and recognizing a wide array of artists that have been featured on our RapCaviar playlist.”

Numerous notable attendees were spotted at the celebration, including French Montana, Amber Rose and her boyfriend Alexander “AE” Edwards, Justin and Christian Combs, Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi of Rae Sremmurd, Bryson Tiller, R&B duo DVSN, rappers Flo Milli, Coi Leray, DDG, Westside Boogie, OG Maco, Symba, actress Paige Hurd (of Starz’ Power Book II: Ghost), YK Osiris, actor Jabari Banks (Bel-Air), actress Skai Jackson, DJ Siobhan Bell and more.

Young Thug Receives RapCaviar’s ‘Coach Of The Year’ Award

Despite being in detainment for RICO charges, rapper Young Thug is still receiving accolades. The latest is RapCaviar’s Coach Of The Year award. The Spotify hip-hop playlist is honoring Thug’s decade-plus-spanning career, his founding of YSL, and his knack for elevating younger generations of hip-hop artists.

“Young Thug is a musical icon,” RapCaviar wrote in an Instagram post. “He founded Young Stoner Life Records, helped jumpstart the careers of artists like Gunna and Lil Baby, and has mentored Atlanta rappers like Lil Keed and Lil Gotit. That’s why we’re naming him our 2022 #AllRapCaviar Coach of the Year.”

In addition to Thug’s award, RapCaviar also announced the finalists of their third annual All-RapCaviar team, which reflects the number of each artist’s streams on the platform within the last year. Among the first-team picks are Lil Durk, Kendrick Lamar, Gunna, Future, and Drake. On the second team are Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Lil Baby, Jack Harlow, and Kanye West. The third team is comprised of Nicki Minaj, Latto, Youngboy Never Broke Again, Kodak Black, and Pusha T.

Thug’s upcoming trial is scheduled to take place early next year.

6lack And Westside Boogie Put On For Their Team In LVRN’s ‘RapCaviar Cypher’ Video

Over the past couple of years, LVRN has flown a bit under the radar in terms of labels that also function as rap crews. Where lots of attention is (rightfully) lavished on Dreamville and TDE for their tight-knit groups, Love Renaissance has seemed like more of a loose collective under one banner until recently. That changed last December when the label released its first compilation, which was, incidentally, also a holiday album showcasing the singing talents of its R&B roster. However, it looks like the rap unit is beginning to jell as well, as shown in the LVRN Cypher for Spotify’s RapCaviar.

For the first time, all of the group’s impressively gifted rappers come together on one track. While the better-known members 6lack and Westside Boogie may be the big draws, the track highlights the newbies as well, including OMB Bloodbath, who kicks things off with a breathless verse, BRS Kash, who shows he’s more than the “Throat Baby” crooner, and NoonieVsEverybody, who should increase the team’s trap appeal. The video sees the crew take over what looks like a bank lobby as DJ Kitty Cash spins from the concierge podium and the rappers do their thing in matching maintenance uniforms emblazoned with the LVRN logo.

It took a while for the Avengers to come together; now it looks like rap has a new superteam aiming at taking over, one verse at a time. Meanwhile, the team also released individual videos for each member with extended verses, ensuring even more content to hold fans over for whatever comes next.
