Quavo “Rocket Power” Album Review

Quavo’s Rocket Power is a tribute to his deceased nephew, fellow rapper, and Migos member Takeoff. Just prior to Takeoff’s murder, the duo released their joint album Only Built For Infinity Links in October 2022. Rocket Power was long anticipated, named in tribute to Takeoff’s “Rocket” nickname. Yet, this project isn’t the only way Quavo has paid homage to his late relative.

He performed “Without You,” a tribute song for Takeoff, at the 2023 GRAMMYs. Later, Quavo and Offset also performed a tribute to Takeoff at the 2023 BET Awards. Further, Rocket Power also has posthumous appearances by the late rapper. Many of the songs on the album find Quavo telling stories of his past with Takeoff and reflecting on his current mental state. He showcases the variety in his flows and production choices throughout. The authenticity of his bars referencing Takeoff are the central focus, but he still finds time to have a little fun, too.

Quavo Brings Emotion To The Album

Rocket Power finds Quavo delving into heartfelt verses about Takeoff. The opener, “Fueled Up,” continues the theme and has a soundbite from Takeoff that plays three times. This could be interpreted as a reference to the three members of Migos. Tracks like “Mama Told Me” have Quavo recalling advice from his mother, and “Mama!” was one of Takeoff’s most recognizable adlibs. The song is an energetic contrast to another equally sentimental song on the album, “Hold Me.” This one also finds Quavo using the emotional sample to echo his emotions as he name-drops several people over a minimal piano-based track. “Not Done Yet” and “Rocket Power” appear back to back on the tracklist and bring the project to a fitting close. The former is a motivational song over a victorious melody as Quavo promises to continue his achievements.

Quavo Brings Energy To The Album

Outside of the emotional moments, Quavo also mixes things up on Rocket Power. The most surprising track is “Galaxy,” which sounds like the dance-inspired music from Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind. Producer Alex Lusting has credits all over that album and worked on Quavo’s song, too.

On “Disciples” and “11.11,” Quavo croons and raps over the eerie trap instrumentals he has built his career around. His vocal inflections and switch-ups take full advantage of the autotune as the drums keep the bounce of the tracks at a high level. Meanwhile, “Focused,” which features Young Thug, is rhythmic as a space-like melody pairs well with Quavo’s echoed vocals. The hook-centric “Wall to Wall” is the type of track listeners expect from Quavo. Yet, he weaves some light-hearted homage to Takeoff into this one.

Quavo Gifted Fans With Two Verses From Takeoff

Quavo has two features on Rocket Power from Takeoff himself. The first one is on “Patty Cake,” where the duo displays the same chemistry they had on their collaboration album. Over blaring trumpets, the duo energetically flows with ease. While they do not trade bars, Takeoff has a small comedic contribution during Quavo’s verse. With production coming from DJ Durel, this one is a collaboration celebrated by all their longtime supporters.

Meanwhile, “Back Where It Begins” opts for a more low-tempo approach. Future, who also features on the track, brings his signature auto-tuned singing to a fittingly relaxing melody over trap drums. Takeoff’s verse has a bar that excellently summarizes the mindset of camaraderie he’s had his whole career: “I feel like if I win, then we all win.”

Quavo’s Tribute Was Done Well

Quavo used Rocket Power to pay homage to his nephew, and the sentiment was definitely felt. By balancing emotional and sentimental tracks with upbeat ones, he gave listeners various songs for different occasions. Listeners will be reminded of the energy the duo brought to their last album and their storied history as a part of Migos. The vulnerable songs showcase Quavo’s skill as a songwriter and range as an artist.

Minimal features also allowed Quavo to remain the project’s focus most of the time. This album shows the elevation of Quavo’s career and offers listeners a glimpse of where he can go next musically. However, no matter what he does, Takeoff will remain in his heart and mind as he continues to bring pride to the musical legacy they started together.

Quavo Takes Fans And Execs To The Moon With ‘Rocket Power’

Quavo Huncho took the stage on the solo tip as he rolled out his debut album minus the Migos at the Hayden Planetarium last night for well over 800 fans and executives with two separate installments of listening sessions.

Located on the upper west side of Central Park West, Quavo did not disappoint as listeners leaned back into their seats and rocked out in a ‘sky theater’ where special projectors created a simulation of the night sky on a dome ceiling. Fans and executives were able to view star choreographed visuals where his nephew, the late “TakeOff” was able to be seen amongst the stars while Quavo performed and interacted with the audience.

The entire album was an ode to his brother who died earlier this year. “Galaxy” and “Turn Yo Click Up” featuring Future seemed to be fan faves as all attendees looked up into a galaxy of stars, planets, and meteors in this highly interactive listening experience.

Bitter sweet, the album is fire but the absence of TakeOff and OffSet was definitely felt. “Not Done Yet” is the anthem for anyone needing a pocket of inspiration. Taking losses in life come with the territory, but it’s all about how one adjusts to the meteors thrown in one’s path.

Fans React To Quavo’s “Rocket Power”: The Good, The Bad & The Beautiful

Quavo’s Rocket Power is finally out, and fans have wasted no time discussing it in social media circles. Given that it’s a tribute album to his late rap partner Takeoff, there’s a lot to digest here and it’s not the easiest listen. Still, it seems like people have an array of opinions on it online, most of them being positive celebrations of not just the late Migo, but of Quavo’s own growth and talent as an artist. Fans already have some of their favorite tracks set, and the reception indicates that it’s quite a balanced and engaging listen regardless of which angle you see it through. With features from the likes of Young Thug, Future, and Takeoff himself, there’s a lot of star power and bangers to be found here, as well as more emotive cuts.

“My favorite tracks: ‘patty cake’, ‘hold me’, ‘Fueled up’,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “You really feel the emotion in these tracks, and it’s good to get more songs featured with takeoff in it. Beautiful tribute to takeoff.” Another added “Easily one of my favorite albums this year. Quavo really did his thing and made a beautiful album.”

Quavo’s New Album Gets Praised

“Easily the best album dropped this year in the rap space,” an impassioned fan wrote of Quavo’s latest. “I love migos have for a while so I’m trying to not sound bias but this genuinely is one of the best productions any of them have had as a group or solo artist. You can tell he took his time and spoke his mind. Emotional.” However, someone responded with some pushback. “Quavo is not versatile enough for this album to be better than Utopia but its overall a solid album with some bangers, just kind of get artist fatigue from the lack of vocal differences by the end of the track list.” Check out more reactions below.

Meanwhile, the Georgia trap pioneer continually finds ways to honor Takeoff amid this album’s hype and great reception. Quavo’s ‘Rocket Power’ Tracklist Features Contributions From The Late Takeoff, Future, Young Thug, And More

Following a slight delay, Quavo’s solo sophomore album, Rocket Power, has finally dropped. Yes, the project’s formation was due to grimy circumstances. However, the body of work found a silver lining in all of his sorrows as he heals from the tragic death of Quavo’s late nephew and frequent collaborator, Takeoff.

Rocket Power features contributions from the late musician as well as fellow Atlanta rappers Future, Young Thug, and Hunxho. Stockbridge, Georgia native Baby Drill also makes a guest vocal appearance. Regarding production, DJ Durel, Wheezy, Murda Beatz, BNYX, Buddah Bless, and Pooh Beatz are among the long list of credited professionals.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the album, Quavo took to social media to write, “This album is for the Rocket, our true fans, and also, this is my therapy,” he wrote. “This album is a true reflection of how I feel right now. Sometimes I’m good, sometimes I’m down, sometimes I’m disappointed, sometimes I fall apart, but then I always find my strength again. I know everything might not be alright right now, but the Rocket showed me a way to make it right! Rocket Power keeps me going. Rocket Power gives me fuel. ‘Rocket Power’ will help us all overcome whatever we’re going through.”

Quavo’s new album Rocket Power is available. His next move is to tribute Takeoff in his shoe game. The “Rocket Power” Air Jordan 1 Lows have been revealed.

The recently available sneaker is made of white leather and has a white mesh liner and white rubber outsoles. According to Hypebeast, the sneaker also has a logo on the heel with an infinity symbol and a collection of stars that spell out Rocket Power. The sneaker is expected to release today, Aug. 15, at Good Times Atlanta.

Quavo’s Assistant Sues Bowling Alley Where Takeoff Died For Negligence

About nine months after the tragic loss of Takeoff, his friends and family are still seeking justice for his passing. Moreover, Quavo’s assistant Joshua Washington, who accompanied him and Take the night suspects shot the latter, sued the location of the tragedy, 810 Billiards & Bowling in Houston, Texas. The lawsuit against the venue, its owners, and property managers alleges gross negligence of security measures and emergency responses to the shooting. In fact, Washington was one of three other individuals who sustained injuries as a result of it, with the late Migo being the only casualty. Readers may remember that Kirsnick Khari Ball’s mother, Titania Davenport, also sued the entertainment venue for similar reasons.

Furthermore, her suit also brought forth allegations that the venue ignored calls for stricter security amid rumors that it became a crime hotspot. She seeks “compensatory, special, economic, consequential, general, punitive, and all other damages permissible under Texas law.” However, it’s unclear as of writing this article what outcome Washington seeks from this new legal action, although they’re assumedly similar damages. Regardless, this means that there’s now more pressure than ever on the venue to answer for their supervision.

Still, 810 Billiards & Bowling issued a public denial of any responsibility in this tragic incident, which Davenport’s lawsuit aimed to disprove. “[The] Defendants provided no screening mechanisms, no after-hour controls or security measures, and no enforcement of rules or industry standards to deter crime against their invitees, to include [Takeoff],” the suit alleges. “Social media posting in advance of the party made it clear that not only basic security measures needed to be followed, but advance planning and consideration should have been taken into account.

“Defendants knew or should have known that a significant number of violent crimes were committed at the subject premises and in the surrounding area, but negligently failed to protect invitees like [Takeoff] from the risks of violent crime,” it continued. “Defendants negligently failed to take necessary and unique precautions due to the specific event and the attendees. [They] knew that based on the nature of the party, celebrities would more likely than not be in attendance and potentially be the targets of crime.” We’ll see if this additional lawsuit will result in true accountability for the venue. Quavo Debuted A New Song, ‘Who Wit Me,’ At The Atlanta Braves Game Against The New York Yankees

Earlier this month, Quavo announced that he’d delayed his upcoming album, Rocket Power, to “run some more tests before the rocket is ready to launch.” Apparently, one of those tests was the home crowd response test. Quavo previewed part of the album for Atlanta fans during yesterday’s Braves game against the New York Yankees, which Atlanta won, 5-0. Standing atop the Braves’ dugout ahead of the game, Quavo performed a new song called, “Who Wit Me,” with the Braves’ social team capturing the performance above.

Rocket Power, which is named in honor of the late Takeoff, will be Quavo’s first solo album since 2018 project Quavo Huncho, and the first Migos solo project since the death of Takeoff late last year. Shortly after announcing the album, Quavo and Offset reunited at the 2023 BET Awards to perform the group’s first No. 1 hit, “Bad N Boujee,” together for the first time in a year. While they denied that this meant a group reunion was in the works, Offset called it a soul-clearing experience.

Meanwhile, Quavo continued the rollout for Rocket Power, releasing the single “Turn Yo Clic Up” with Future — a single that found Future seemingly trying to resurrect his dispute with NFL player Russell Wilson. Although he didn’t have plans to drop a new solo work following the tragic death of his late nephew and frequent collaborator Takeoff, Quavo decided to use his music as an emotional outlet.

On social media, Quavo shared that creating the album helped him in the darkest moments he faced after Takeoff’s passing. “This album is for the Rocket, our true fans, and also, this is my therapy,” he wrote. “This album is a true reflection of how I feel right now. Sometimes I’m good, sometimes I’m down, sometimes I’m disappointed, sometimes I fall apart, but then I always find my strength again.
