Rio Da Yung OG Released From Prison With Plans For A Massive “Welcome Home Concert”

Rio Da Yung OG has been released from a federal prison in Arkansas where he had been serving a 60-month sentence after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Rio will now finish the remainder of his sentence through “community confinement,” according to Pitchfork, which cites a Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson. He’ll be able to stay at either a halfway house or home confinement until Saturday, July 12, 2025. At that point, he’ll only need to maintain 18 more months of supervised release.

Rio had previously expressed his hope for getting an early release on his Instagram Story back in January 2021. “I’m doing 5 years for some sh*t I ain’t know was going on but I take full responsibility cause I know what comes wit this street sh*t,” he wrote at the time. “Thank you god for putting me through this situation cause it really opened my eyes and show me how to deal wit people.”

At the time, U.S. Attorney Matthew Schneider noted his minimal criminal history and respectable career during his sentencing memorandum. “It is not certain that [Rio]’s participation in this offense was easier or more lucrative than working for Chrysler, and whether the decision to enter into this conspiracy was driven by his familial relationship with one of the co-defendants, a desire to attain more street credibility for his nascent music career, or some other reason, but it has had a negative effect on his community and on [Rio] himself,” Schneider wrote.

Rio has already announced a welcome home concert in Detroit to celebrate his release from prison. It’ll take place on Saturday, January 11th with the promise of “surprise guests.” In response to Rio making the announcement on Instagram, Lil Baby popped up in the comments section to celebrate. “Straight to biznessss,” he wrote. In addition to this, he must follow various release conditions, including not communicating with any alleged gang members or YSL affiliates. Regardless, his fans and loved ones are glad to see him embracing his newfound freedom. Of course, he couldn’t have done any of this without the help of his lawyer Brian Steel, who received a great deal of praise once Young Thug was released.

Immediately, supporters flooded him with messages, thanking him for getting the rapper out. Now, Steel is being applauded for something else entirely: his modeling skills. Recently, Young Thug’s fashion brand Sp5der dropped a new ad in which the Atlanta attorney shows off some of the brand’s hoodies, sweatpants, and more. “This is too hard,” one X user writes in the NFR Podcast‘s replies. “They need to drop a collab album next,” another jokes.

But, this is not the same as a not guilty verdict,” he explained. He later confirmed that Young Thug was still “very happy” to be released. YNW Melly Could Reportedly Be Released Soon Unless Officials Prove Bond Shouldn’t Be Granted

Recently, YNW Melly’s attorney Michael A. Pizzi Jr. filed a 12-page lawsuit against the Broward Sheriff’s Office. In it, he alleges that his client is being kept in inhumane conditions, including solitary confinement for around three years with no visits or phone calls. Allegedly, Melly’s lawyers have also struggled to communicate with him, been denied entry to the prison, and more. Pizzi Jr. alleges that all of this violates Melly’s first, fifth, sixth, eighth, and fourteenth amendment rights.

“We are asking a Federal Judge to Order the immediate release of Jemell Demons (a.k.a. Melly) because the Broward County jail system has been violating his Constitutional Rights,” Pizzi Jr. told XXL of the lawsuit. “The refusal to let Melly see his family and the interference on his legal representation violates the Constitution and cannot be allowed to stand and will not be allowed to stand.” Now, according to the outlet, Judge Melissa Damian has responded to the lawsuit.

Broward County Sheriff’s Office Has Until December 6 To Prove Their Case

“On or before December 6, 2024, the Respondents shall file a memorandum of fact and law to show cause why this Petition should not be granted, and shall file therewith all documents and transcripts necessary for the resolution of this Petition,” her ruling reads. If the response is not submitted by December 6, Melly could reportedly be released on bond ahead of his upcoming retrial. If they do respond, Melly has two weeks to fire back.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office shared a statement with XXL about the lawsuit, defending themselves. “The Broward Sheriff’s Office does not generally comment on pending litigation,” it begins. “However, the jail does not utilize ‘solitary confinement.’ Rather, Mr. Demons has been placed on administrative segregation, which is a classification resulting in an alternate living assignment for an inmate whose placement in the general population poses a serious threat to the safety of staff or inmates, or life and property.”

Young Thug Has Lived An Entire Lifetime Since Coming Home From Prison

Young Thug has the whole world watching him these days following his release from the YSL RICO trial on a plea deal and 15 years of probation. He got out on October 31, and by the next day, he was already FaceTiming T.I. and linking up with him to celebrate his freedom. It didn’t take long for Thugger to return to social media either, with him tweeting out “Real plea deal jack” and “Wham [Lil Baby] let’s drop one on these rats peter” on November 2 and 3, respectively. That last tweet sparked an ongoing conversation about his seemingly fractured bond with Gunna, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

All of this is to say that the hip-hop space and beyond is very interested to see what the Atlanta rapper will do next. Furthermore, this idea became even more relevant considering the community service guidelines as part of Young Thug’s plea deal. In a new photo, Steel is seen standing in front of a group of students on a FaceTime call with Young Thug. Both of them appeared to be in good spirits, though it remains unclear exactly what they discussed.
