NLE Choppa Speaks On His Decision To Perform At LGBTQIA+ Pride Events

NLE Choppa has faced a lot of backlash in the past for his support of the LGBTQIA+ community and his decision to perform at Pride events. This criticism comes from both sides of the aisle, with bigots trashing his solidarity and community members accusing him of just pandering and co-opting their identity. However, when you hear the Memphis MC talk about the situation, it’s clear that he’s trying to come from a place of support and unity above all else. He recently reflected on this matter during a new episode of the Caresha Please podcast with former City Girls member Yung Miami.

“Yeah, I’m appreciative of it,” NLE Choppa told Yung Miami about having a big queer following. “I’m appreciative of it because, at the end of the day, I feel like we are taught to not show love to people because they walk a different life. Who taught that s**t? Who taught that people are supposed to show hate in any instance? God don’t do that. God is love. What the hell is we showing hate for? He would never, He would never. What would God do?”

NLE Choppa Is Still Supportive Of The Queer Community

Of course, this new era for NLE Choppa has not only resulted in some of his biggest hits and moments of attention, but also a lot of opportunities for collaboration and media expansions. For example, he recently unveiled the trailer for a wild comedy film with him, Lil Wayne, Ray Vaughn, Sophie Rain, and many others. Whether or not you like what Choppa engages with, he continues to build his extracurricular achievements within and outside of his music career. Even if some are clearly bigger than others, it doesn’t change the consistent advocacy and norm-challenging behavior which does open the door for deeper discussion to people outside of the loop.

Meanwhile, NLE Choppa still engages in some of the typical Internet antics here and there, even if only tangentially. His baby mama recently tasked her Instagram Live viewers with watching her child, which sent social media for a loop earlier this year. But we’ll see what other reflections on identity and solidarity emerge from this perspective.

NLE Choppa Triples Down On LGBTQ+ Support By Announcing Black Pride Show In Atlanta

NLE Choppa’s staunch support of the LBGTQ+ community got him a lot of praise and gratitude, but also a lot of bigoted hate. If it isn’t from folks who have a problem with anything non-cisgender-heteronormative, then it’s from people assuming that he must be gay in order to take this stance. But as the Memphis rapper explained in a new video, he doesn’t care about people’s assumptions and will always advocate against their discriminatory behavior. He did so during his announcement of a performance in Atlanta for Black Pride today (Sunday, September 1) so go check him out if you’re in the area.

“Atlanta Black Pride September 1ST Im Live In Performance,” NLE Choppa captioned the social media video on Instagram. “THE BANK. 3120 DONALD LEE HOLLOWELL PKWY NW, ATLANTA,GA 30318.” “Um, if you a person that has had something to say about me over these last six months regarding if I’m gay or if I’m an f-bomb or if I’m this and if I’m that…” he said in the clip itself.

“Well, this might make you a little bit more mad or make you more infatuated with trying to come to a conclusion of who I am,” NLE Choppa continued. “When I tell y’all, that is who I is. But because I know who I am so deeply and [I’m] so appreciative of who I am, I will be doing my justice by, you know, coming to Atlanta for Black Pride Fest and showing love to the LGBTQ community for being one of the best of the audiences that’s been streaming ‘Slut Me Out 2.

“So the same way that they’re pouring love into me is the same way that I’m giving back love,” NLE Choppa continued. “And yeah, I’ma let y’all judge me again and say what y’all want to say about me. ‘Cause y’all are going to say what y’all are going to say regardless.” Regardless of what backlash might come his way, the “Slut SZN” merch entrepreneur is going to continue to support all his fans and fight back against discrimination and bigotry that affects the LBGTQ+ community today.

Coi’s presence at the event highlighted her commitment to equality and inclusion, making a powerful statement of solidarity with the millions who gather each year to celebrate love and diversity.

Coi Leray’s participation in the parade comes just one day before her highly anticipated July 1st performance at the Barclays Center as part of Jhene Aiko’s sold-out Magic Hour Tour. Diddy Gets Two Middle Fingers From Kesha At WeHo Pride: Watch

Late last year, Kesha decided to switch up the lyrics to her 2009 track “Tik Tok,” omitting Diddy’s name in light of the allegations brought against him by his ex-girlfriend Cassie and several others. Since then, disturbing footage of the Bad Boy Records found physically assaulting Cassie in 2016 has surfaced online. For obvious reasons, this only compounded the explosive backlash related to everything he’s accused of.

This also appears to have prompted Kesha to double down on the lyrical change, and even take things up a notch at a recent performance. Last night, she graced the stage at WeHo Pride, where she made it extremely clear how she feels about the mogul. “Wake up in the morning like f*** P. Diddy!” she shouted onstage, flipping off the crowd alongside several backup dancers. For those who don’t recall, the original lyrics are “Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy.”

Kesha Says “F*ck P. Diddy”

Of course, the crowd went wild, as they did when the songstress did something similar onstage with Renee Rapp at Coachella in April. It earned her praise from countless social media users and peers, including one of Diddy’s most vocal critics, 50 Cent. He took to Instagram to share his reaction to the switch-up as the clip made its rounds online. “LOL she said [middle finger emoji] Fvck P DIDDY,” he wrote. “HAHAAHAHA [eyeball emoji] PUFFY LIKE 50 TOLD HER TO SAY THAT!” Clearly, Kesha is having a major comeback, though the same certainly can’t be said for Diddy.

After the Cassie assault footage went viral, he apologized in a short Instagram video, though most viewers didn’t buy it. He went on to be hit with two additional lawsuits from women accusing him of sexual assault and more. What do you think of Kesha changing up the lyrics to her hit track “Tik Tok”? What about her flipping Diddy off at WeHo Pride? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Remy Ma Performs For Seemingly Small Crowd At DC Pride, Fans React

Remy Ma often deals with a lot of trolls online, but when the actual narrative behind the trolling is unclear, it just makes for a messy situation overall. Moreover, a clip recently surfaced of her performing for a seemingly small crowd at DC Pride, which Barbz had a field day with. They clowned the femcee for the show’s size, her performance energy, or just chose to bring up the Nicki Minaj beef once more for good measure. However, one commenter in particular called this a misrepresentative interpretation, as they claimed this was apparently a pre-show event before her actual larger-scale performance for around 5,000 people.

Furthermore, at least this is a bit of a better look for Remy Ma compared to some other recent headlines that have raised eyebrows her way. For those unaware, she received accusations of cheating on Papoose with Eazy The Block Captain, a younger battle rapper. These allegations actually made it so deep into the battle rap space, and their particular lane within it, that Cassidy recently dissed Eazy on a new track. It wasn’t just an “I’m better than you” argument, but one that also brought up this alleged infidelity as an attack.

Remy Ma’s DC Pride… Performance? Pre-Show? See Comments For Fans’ Reactions & Debates

Not only that, but rumors that the two have split based on Remy Ma’s body language at Papoose’s birthday event haven’t really helped this narrative diminish. Either way, there’s a lot of drama going on right now in her life, which definitely has been the case for a couple of years now. It’s hard to not think about the Nicki Minaj beef as a leading cause of that, but it would be overly reductive to solely attribute this to that conflict. After all, there are plenty of ways in which careers don’t necessarily become less impactful, but can see a smaller or more measured reception.

In fact, given that Nicki Minaj had previously vaguely hinted at burying the hatchet with Remy Ma, maybe that’s not an important factor anymore. Still, we’ll see whether there are more widely spread clips of this DC Pride performance in the near future that could prove or disprove the current narrative. She’ll likely have some more releases, performances, and events to look forward to in 2024. Let’s see if they fill up more.

Saweetie Teases New Song With London On Da Track Production In Chicago

It’s been several years of EPs, singles, and other notable moments, yet there’s still no debut album from Saweetie. Of course, she’s spent plenty of time giving updates and timelines on when the album is coming, and why it’s taken so long to release. However, it seems like all of that might change this year after performances and new music teases, plus a couple of notable collaborations and last year’s EP, THE SINGLE LIFE. Recently, at Chicago’s Pride In The Park Festival, the Cali native teased a new track with production from acclaimer beatmaker London On Da Track. Moreover, it’s reportedly titled “Shot O’Clock” and hopefully drops very soon.

In terms of the beat, it’s a classic bounce for Saweetie, harkening to West Coast rhythms and chorus structures. There’s even a Spanish countdown that compliments the beat and melody quite well, on top of sampling Suzanne Vega and DNA’s “Tom’s Diner.” Lyrically, it’s just as boastful, confident, and club-ready as you expect a track from the 29-year-old to be. Her performance on it is sharp, focused, and filled with laidback energy.

Saweetie & London On Da Track’s Teased Song

However, a bigger story involving her recently actually involved another rapper allegedly throwing a diss her way. Moreover, the “ICY GIRL” seemed to catch a stray from Young Thug on the track “Want Me Dead” off his new album BUSINESS IS BUSINESS– or at least that’s what fans thought. “My n***a ain’t even tryna hit sweetie,” Thugger raps. He took to Twitter to clarify that he said “sweetie” and not “Saweetie.” Regardless, it still caused quite the stir online given the hype around the release and the apparent name-drop. Ultimately, Thug is such an expressive rapper that confusion around his bars is to be expected at this point.

Meanwhile, the Atlanta-based producer made a lot of headlines recently for his relationship with Shenseea. In fact, it crossed over into another news story. Summer Walker (his ex that beefed with him a lot online) gave her props for changing his ways. From the looks of it, he and Saweetie will go back to making headlines for their art very soon. On that note, log back into HNHH for the latest news and updates on these artists.

Janelle Monáe Owned The LA Pride Parade By Performing On Her Own Float And Giving A Moving Speech

In the heart of Pride Month, the LA Pride Festival & Parade went down in Los Angeles this past weekend. Janelle Monáe made sure to put her stamp on proceedings with their own float, from which they sang some songs from their new album, The Age Of Pleasure. She also took a minute to deliver a rousing speech about celebrating and protecting the LGBTQIA+ community.

They said, “We are here, we are queer! We are trans! We are the LGBTQIA+ community and we celebrate us right now! We celebrate all that we are from all different walks of life. We protect each other. We use our privilege to protect those who don’t have any. We use our voice. We use and exercise our right to vote to protect our trans family! […] We protect Black folks here. We protect brown and Black. All of us protect each other. We love each other and we create safe spaces for each other, ’cause there’s no pleasure without safety. So thank you for this safe space right now. I love you so much!”

This follows a recent interview in which Monáe said, “You respond by fighting back, by speaking out against, standing with our trans community, my siblings. As a nonbinary, queer, pansexual person, I am proud to be in this community. I will never sit back and be silent about the injustices that are happening against our trans community.”

Janelle Monáe is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Megan Thee Stallion Fan’s Wild Twerking Display Leaves Rap Diva Shocked: Video

By now, Megan Thee Stallion has solidified her status as an international superstar. 2022 saw the Houston native headlining shows all across the globe, and while she began 2023 on a quiet note, recent months have seen her back on the stage in full force. Her most recent performance took place on Friday (June 9) in Los Angeles, where Megan happily showed out in support of the LGBTQ+ community at Pride in the Park.

Besides performing fan favourites like “Body,” “Big Ole Freak,” and “Simon Says” for the crowd, the fashionista also brought up some attendees to show off their dance moves. As we’ve seen in the past, it was a male member of Thee Hotties who primarily caught Megan’s attention thanks to his wildly impressive twerking skills on her stage. TikTok star Markell Washington is currently going viral thanks to his grooving alongside the “Plan B” hitmaker which left her too stunned to speak.

I love this lady with a passion lol, and the way she hyped me up the whole time and they kept putting me on the big screen 😭😭❤❤🙌🏽. Yeah, I did what I came to do,” Washington further gushed over the special moment.

The multi-talent herself also posted an IG photo dump commerating the show on Saturday (June 10), praising Thee Hotties for “really [showing] out” at her set. While she certainly didn’t disappoint on Friday, it was Mariah Carey who took over the annual Pride event on Saturday to perform songs like “Big Energy.” Do you think you could out-twerk Megan Thee Stallion? Megan Thee Stallion Shines Bright Like A Diamond At LA Pride Show As 1501 Rejects Her Deposition Demands

Megan Thee Stallion markedly hit the stage at Los Angeles’ Pride in the Park this weekend. While she was happy to twerk up a storm for the LGBTQ community, her mind was riddled with legal woes. The Houston native is gearing up to face off against 1501 Certified Entertainment, her former label, in court. However, a recent deposition sent to head Carl Crawford from MTS’ attorneys has reportedly been declined.

According to documents obtained by Radar Online, Crawford and 1501 have filed a motion which denies employing Darien Smith at the label. They do have a working relationship, though Smith is reportedly an independent contractor who manages one of their artists but is otherwise not affiliated with Carl’s company. In addition, the 1501 leader pointed out that the deposition seemingly confuses “Darien Smith” and “Darrian Smith”

“The label said it has never refused ‘to produce a corporate representative’ to testify regarding its publishing claim. Instead, 1501 has repeatedly asked [Megan’s] counsel to articulate what testimony [Megan] is seeking so that it might present an appropriate witness,” Radar Online reported earlier this week. It seems the next steps will be for the “Big Ole Freak” artist’s lawyers to personally subpoena “Darien Smith,” seeing as he’s not employed at Thee Stallion’s former label.

While the latest update in her legal battle is surely an annoying one, the southern superstar didn’t let it get in the way of her set on Friday (June 9) night. Her stage costume had her shining bright like a diamond while dancing along to hits like “Body” and “WAP,” all while the crowd proudly cheered her on. She may not have plans to release new music anytime soon, but Thee Hotties are still showing out loudly and proudly in support of their coach.

Janelle Monáe Vows To ‘Never Sit Back And Be Silent’ About ‘Injustices’ Trans And LGBTQ People Face Amid New Laws

Now is a complicated time for the LGBTQ community. We’re a week into Pride Month, but the celebration comes after the recent passage of laws across the US targeting drag and trans people. As all this is going on, Janelle Monáe does not plan on being silent.

In a recent video interview with NBC4 Washington, Monáe was asked how they respond to the recent legal happenings and they answered, “You respond by fighting back, by speaking out against, standing with our trans community, my siblings. As a nonbinary, queer, pansexual person, I am proud to be in this community. I will never sit back and be silent about the injustices that are happening against our trans community.”

She spoke about similar topics in another recent interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, saying, “There are a lot of laws being put in place around my trans family and the LGBTQI+ communities and even Black folks — you can’t even talk about certain things in school anymore. Those who are trans, they’re literally trying to erase their existence and not treat them with human decency. So, of course we fight, but even in the middle of the fight we take time to find joy.”

When asked if it was difficult to discuss these topics, Monáe responded, “I feel like I’m one of the most vocal, loud and proud, pansexual, queer, non-binary, black folks who have a platform! I feel I’ve said a lot. I don’t feel uncomfortable now, thank God. But I know there are a lot of people who may be uncomfortable with it, who don’t have to feel rushed or forced into talking about something that is private for most folks. There is no right or wrong way to talk about being in the LGBTQI+ community. As long as it’s with love, it’s fine.”

Janelle Monáe is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
