50 Cent Talks Nicki Minaj & Cardi B: “Hip Hop Culture Makes You Battle”

As one of Hip Hop’s elite group of successful moguls, 50 Cent has mentored several artists. The Rap icon’s accolades include everything from television to production to music and beyond, so it was only fitting that he caught up with Billboard for a sprawling feature. During the conversation, Fif was asked about mentoring artists like DaBaby and Pop Smoke. Additionally, he was questioned about this generation’s Hip Hop artists and his involvement in helping them with their careers.

“I only like the ones that I see myself in. A lot of the other s–t, I be like, ‘Yeah, what the f–k is this, man?’ I’ve got to believe them and the s–t they’re saying to be into the artist. They [also] have to want to be mentored. I’ll talk to them and touch base with them because I see that in them. You go, ‘Yo, you have to focus on what you came for and what’s important to you, and get those things together versus just riding it out.”

Fif also touched on his “competitive energy,” noting that “Hip Hop culture makes you battle.” He further mentioned Nicki Minaj. “But the funny s–t is, I like watching her when she’s upset,” he said. “I like that because she has something that comes from the experience of living in South Jamaica. I’m looking at it like, ‘Yo, I know they think she’s nuts, but they only think that because they don’t understand.’ I get it. She thinks you’re trying to play her.”

“When Cardi B came, I thought she was dope. She’s from the bottom,” Fif also said. “She was in Club Lust in Brooklyn. [Going] from that and actually making a hit record and turning into who she did? I don’t know why anybody wouldn’t like to see that. It felt like she got everything — married, the baby — it came really fast. That’s the American dream right there.”

“When her and Nicki clash, I go, ‘Oh, s–t, it’s going to be interesting to watch how it plays out.’ Lyrically, I won’t say anything competitively about the two of them, but I love Nicki. I don’t have anything against Cardi. I think anyone who comes now, she is going to check their temperature. Nicki is going to check if this b-tch is friendly or looking to take over the s–t.”

Meanwhile, the tension between Minaj and Cardi has been well-documented. These days, the women have quietly been in their own spaces, but their fanbases have been called out for continuously pitting the women against one another. Check out more from 50 Cent’s Billboard cover feature below.

Nicki Minaj Sued for $750K After Husband Allegedly Attacked Hired Security

Nicki Minaj's husband kenneth petty

Nicki Minaj and her husband, Kenneth Petty, are being sued for $750,000 over attacking a security guard. The guard was a member of Minaj’s team.

According to The Blast, the guard is German man Thomas Weidenmuller. He is suing for battery and infliction of emotional distress.

Weidenmuller was the head of security for Minaj for a 2019 trip to Germany. A fan hopped on stage and made it past security, upsetting Minaj.

Court documents state the “concert-goer breached a security barricade dividing the audience from the stage and was able to get on stage while Minaj was performing. In obtaining access to the stage, the concert-goer bypassed a female security guard stationed at the stairs leading to the stage.”

Minaj wasn’t hurt as the fan just danced on stage. After the show, Minaj, Petty, and additional members of her entourage confronted security calling the female guard that was bypassed a “bitch” who broke to tears and apologized.

From there, Minaj pulled out her phone and demanded the guard “tell Minaj’s fans, via the recording, that she failed to do her job and put Minaj in danger.” Minaj would then throw her shoes at the guard.

Weidenmuller stated in a later incident; Petty punched him in the face leading to ten days in the hospital. A police investigation was launched after.

Nicki Minaj & Kenneth Petty Sued For $740K Over Alleged Attack: Report

It looks as if Kenneth Petty has another legal issue to deal with. Nicki Minaj and her husband live a more reclusive life away from the spotlight, but that hasn’t kept their names out of headlines. Petty has been battling it out in court over his attempted rape conviction and registering as a sex offender. However, he and Nicki Minaj were also accused of being involved in an attack on a security guard in 2019.

In January 2022, reports stated Minaj and Petty were sued by a German man named Thomas Weidenmuller. The Blast reported Weidenmuller was the head of security at a Minaj concert in Frankfurt when a fan made it past guards and jumped onstage. The incident allegedly made Minaj upset, and Petty, along with her entourage, confronted Weidenmuller backstage.

Court documents revealed that the “concert-goer breached a security barricade dividing the audience from the stage and was able to get on stage while Minaj was performing. In obtaining access to the stage, the concert-goer bypassed a female security guard stationed at the stairs leading to the stage.”

The Blast reported on newly filed paperwork where it shows that Weidenmuller is demanding $753,958.51 in damages. “The concert-goer did not cause harm to any other person, nor did he damage any property during or after his limited time on stage. He simply danced on stage to the music. He did not attempt to, and did not actually, make any physical contact with Minaj while on stage.”

Weidenmuller added that Minaj’s entourage was “irate during this confrontation and screamed at the female security guard that she was a f*cking b*tch and accused her of having put Minaj in physical danger. During the confrontation, the female security guard was in tears and apologized to Minaj.”

The accuser claimed that the apology from the guard wasn’t enough for the Rap icon. Minaj allegedly told the woman to apologize again, this time while she was being recorded. “Tell Minaj’s fans, via the recording, that she failed to do her job and put Minaj in danger,” Weidenmuller stated. He also said Minaj threw her shoes at the guard before Weidenmuller was allegedly verbally and physically assaulted.

“Without warning, Petty PUNCHED Weidenmuller from the side and made contact with the right side of [his] face.” He was said to have spent 10 days in the hospital. Minaj nor Petty have commented on the accusations.

Coi Leray Had “No Clue” About Latto’s “Blick Blick” Bars

A massive song leak that caused Latto to trend across social media has received an official response from Coi Leray. In November, Latto was yet another artist who suffered a setback after a reported 130 songs leaked online. Nestled within was a reference track where Latto spit bars over Coi Leray and Nicki Minaj’s collaboration, “Blick Blick.”

Quickly, fans speculated on whether Latto was responsible for penning bars on the released version. In a new interview with Billboard, Leray addressed the controversy. “I had no clue that she cut that record,” she said.

After the songs leaked, Leray said that creating songs was a team effort. She emphasized the point with Billboard.

“I kinda look at it like a collab. It’s like if Gucci or Moncler wanted me on the cover wearing their stuff, and I like the stuff, then if I don’t like it, I don’t have to wear it. It’s the same thing with that song,” Coi added.

“If you play me a song and I think I could kill that s–t. I’ma businesswoman — not only am I talented, I’m also about my business. If that s–t’s a smash and I’m like, ‘All right cool, let’s do it,’ I have the option to change whatever I want in the song. I have the options to tweak or do whatever.”

Further, “Once you give me the song, you can’t tell me what to do. You could give me advice and I’ma cut it.”

The “No More Parties” rapper also addressed why the reference track had similar lyrics to the finalized version.

“Even when we did ‘Blick Blick,’ the hook was already cut and we did the verse together. That’s why the verses sound different,” said Leray. “I heard Latto’s version and the verses sound different but the hook was there.”

“A lot of great music hooks are written and I don’t know — it’s a formula. I’ve only been in the industry for four years, and now I’m at point where I feel like I’m breaking superstar status and I’m learning that formula. I’m gonna be at a point where I’m making those f–king songs for the biggest of the biggest just off the simple fact I learned the formula.”

Additionally, Leray adknowledged she learned this formula through collaborating with others. However, she made sure to add, “But if you put me in the studio with any one of these b–ches I swear they’re not seeing me in any way. They’re not coming out with no hit.”

“And I say that in the most humblest, friendliest, loving, and friendly competition way.”

Ice Spice Had Kendrick Lamar, Azealia Banks, And Nicki Minaj In Constant Rotation As A Teen

Since she first blew up last summer, the world can’t seem to get enough of Ice Spice. The 23-year-old first caught our attention with “Munch (Feelin’ U),” which eventually led her to earn a co-sign from Drake. The Canadian rapper later unfollowed her on Instagram, although she still maintains that they’re “cool.”

Following the release of her debut EP, Like..? earlier this month, the Bronx-born baddie has been more in demand than ever before. It seems as though a new interview has been dropping every day. In one of the more recent ones, Spice revealed some of her earliest musical influences.

During a conversation with ELLE, the “Princess Diana” spitter played a round of “Ask Me Anything.” One of the questions was about her own personal music taste. Surprisingly, she was quick to give Kendrick Lamar his flowers. “I was listening to To Pimp A Butterfly religiously on the way to school. It was like a phase,” she recalled.

Other standouts from the twerk queen’s playlist include Azealia Banks’ 2012 mixtape, Fantasea, as well as Nicki Minaj’s iconic effort, The Pinkprint. Obviously, the latter two are extremely different in lyrical content from the first. Not to mention a wild contrast from the “Instagram caption bars” Spice has been known to drop.

As HipHopDX notes, the redhead was just 15 when Kung-Fu Kenny delivered TPAB in 2015. It earned a subsequent debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Additionally, it sold 324K units during its first week out.

Spice, on the other hand, is on track to move 14.5K with her Like..? EP later this weekend. It’s likely that the six-track project will debut outside the chart’s top 20. However, it still made a splash across social media.

While her newfound fame has certainly come with plenty of perks, the rising rap star is quickly learning who her real friends are. Recently, Spice shared that she’s had a few people ask her to purchase houses for them now that she’s on the come up.

Read everything she had to say about that here, and check back later for more hip-hop news updates.
