Nicki Minaj Announces Her Own Record Label

Nicki Minaj Accounces her own record label

Nicki Minaj has always been known for her diversity, whether it’s her ever-changing looks and persona or her varied business ventures. So it shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise that the multiple Grammy nominee and chart-topping artist is starting her own record label.

On Friday, Minaj made her return to music after a brief hiatus with her new single, “Red Ruby Da Sleeze.” She also took to her Queen Radio show to announce her own record label of her own, making her the first major female artist to do so.

While she has not yet announced the name, she has introduced some of the artists that she has signed. So far, her roster includes artists Nana Fofie, Tate Kobang, Rico Danna and London Hill.

She explained that her label won’t be limited to just rap, saying “don’t think my label is just rap, or Black, or anything…we got some other genres of music.”

She went on to credit Lil’ Wayne for much of her inspiration and guidance in starting a record label, explaining how he heavily promoted his artists and she hopes to do the same, saying ‘when I get behind an artist, y’all know how I do s— for people that’s not even signed to me. Imagine what I’ma do for the ones that’s signed.”

While her full staff has not been announced, it has been reported that Patty Duke, who has a longtime relationship with Minaj, will serve in an A&R role at the new label.

Nicki Minaj & Megan Thee Stallion Beef Continues At Rolling Loud: “I Don’t F*ck With Horses”

If there’s one thing you can almost always count on rappers to do, it’s wind up in some beef. As of late, it’s primarily been the female artists going back and forth with each other over a variety of topics. At the end of 2022, we heard Nicki Minaj and Latto trading shots after the latter upset her with her comments about the difference between today’s industry climate, and what it was like when the Queen of Rap was in her prime. Earlier this weekend, that drama was seemingly addressed on her “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” single.

Aside from sharing her first solo effort of 2023 on Friday (March 3), Minaj also surprised fans with a big announcement that same night. On Queen Radio, she confirmed that her own record label is finally coming together, and she’s already got an impressive roster of four signees. As if that weren’t enough, on Saturday evening, the 40-year-old joined her Young Money boss Lil Wayne for his set at Rolling Loud.

Weezy was the festival’s special guest, and his set took place at the end of the night, at the same time as headliner Travis Scott. Much to patrons’ pleasure, he had a fire roster of friends join him, including 2 Chainz, who rapped their joint track, “Duffle Bag Boy,” alongside him. When it came time to throw it back to the YMCMB days, Wayne tapped both Minaj and Gudda Gudda to join him for “Bed Rock.”

Of course, the “How to Love” hitmaker couldn’t let his frequent collaborator walk away without putting on a show. They went on to perform past releases like “High School” and “Truffle Butter,” and the Trinidadian artist had time to show out on a few of her solo tracks as well. Between spitting bars, some attendees couldn’t help but notice that Minaj threw in a diss seemingly aimed at Megan Thee Stallion, who also appears to face heat on her latest single.

Throwing Shade at Thee Stallion

“I only f*ck with, I mean, I don’t f*ck with horses,” she stumbles at the beginning of a video making rounds online. “I said, 700 horses will be fixing to leave, but I don’t f*ck with horses since Christopher Reeve.” Immediately after, she launched into a confident performance of “Chun-Li” as the crowd cheered on. Check it out in the video above, and let us know if you think Nicki Minaj is too old to be sneak dissing like this in the comments.

Nicki Minaj’s Surprise Return To Rolling Loud Was Riddled With Tech Issues: ‘Kill The DJ, Kill The Sound Guy’

On Sunday, March 4, Nicki Minaj made her return to Rolling Loud as the lone special guest for her longtime friend and mentor Lil Wayne’s headlining set.

Last year, the “Super Freaky Girl” rapper made history as the festival’s first woman headliner at the New York installment. Fast forward to yesterday, a day after the release of her new single, “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” the Queens native wanted to celebrate with a mixed melody performance of her classic and newer hints. Unfortunately it didn’t go over as planned.

As Minaj began to get heated up after being introduced by Wayne, the individual responsible for the event audio struggled to deliver her outlined setlist in the order she had provided. While she attempted to remain calm on stage, she eventually grew frustrated. Lil Wayne tried to brush over the technical hiccups by dancing along to the song playing on stage (Minaj’s “Chun-Li” and Wayne’s “Truffle Butter” featuring Minaj).

However, after repeatedly cueing the parties responsible for the audio to which song should be played, she said, “Kill the DJ. Kill the sound guy.”

One user on Twitter claiming to have inside knowledge wrote, “I was there. I actually don’t think it was on the DJ. It sounded like someone from the sound team was cueing the music, at least for her set. He had zero issues during Wayne’s set, and peep how it sounds as if they’re skipping thru songs on an iPad vs. how DJs drop them in.”

Nicki Minaj hasn’t addressed the matter any further.

Nicki Minaj Joined Lil Wayne On Stage At Rolling Loud California For A Performance ‘High School’ And More

Day two of Rolling Loud California 2023 was officially one for the books. Although the billed headliners were 2Chainz, Lil Baby, Travis Scott, and Lil Wayne, the breakout of the evening was actually a surprise guest.

During Lil Wayne’s closing set on the GoPuff stage, the Young Money boss couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to bring out a dear friend of his, rap superstar Nicki Minaj. While the “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” rapper is no stranger to Rolling Loud. The Queens native made history last year after becoming the first woman to headline the festival.

Now, first off the release of her latest single, the recording artist joined her longtime friend and mentor on-stage for a melody performance of some of their biggest songs together as well as a few smash records of her own. As Minaj made her way to the stage, Wayne introduced her by saying, “Ladies and gentlemen. There’s no need for an introduction,” as they intimately made eye contact before he continued, “the motherf*cking queen.”

The pair performed their joint songs “High School” and “Truffle Butter,” while Minaj performed “Super Freaky Girl” and teased “Red Ruby Da Sleeze.”

See below for the full set list for Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne’s breakout during Rolling Loud California 2023, according to Setlist.Fm.

Nicki Minaj Joins Lil Wayne At Rolling Loud, Along With 2 Chainz & Gudda Gudda

There’s still one more day of performances to take in at Rolling Loud California, but already, fans have seen so many noteworthy hip-hop moments. On Friday (March 3), the energy appeared to be all over the place as crowds failed to generate hype during Soulja Boy’s set and even threw a water bottle at Kodak Black. The evening ended with a headlining show from Playboi Carti, who left audiences pleased as he delivered them new music, but still wound up ending early due to a fan injury.

On Saturday (March 4), the heat turned up even more thanks to artists like BIA, who debuted her new “SIXTEEN” single, as well as Lil Yachty, Kevin Gates, Lil Baby, and Don Toliver. The latter previously released his Love Sick album, and recruited his frequent collaborator, Justin Bieber, to join him on stage for their “Private Landing” song. As if that weren’t already enough, Kali Uchis and James Blake came through to help too.

2 Chainz Comes Out for “Duffle Bag Boy”

Elsewhere, Lil Wayne’s set also saw plenty of surprise guests keeping Rolling Loud attendees entertained. Acting as the festival’s special guest headliner, Weezy obviously didn’t hesitate to bring big energy to the stage. Among those joining him was 2 Chainz, who went all out as the pair rapped their fan-favourite joint effort, “Duffle Bag Boy.”

The Louisana-born artist also shocked the crowd by tapping Gudda Gudda to join him for the YMCMB classic, “Bed Rock,” and he wasn’t the only lyricist who showed out on his verse. Nicki Minaj also showed up to support Wayne, joining him for their throwback hit, as well as some more recent collaborations. “Truffle Butter,” which dropped in early 2015, was on their setlist, as well as a few solo tracks from the Queen of Rap herself.

Nicki Minaj’s Surprise Performance Breaks Necks

The “How to Love” hitmaker and his female guest also teamed up for “High School,” taking us way back in time to 2013. She also gave an energized performance of last year’s “Super Freaky Girl,” and reportedly planned to give the audience more, but wasn’t able to due to issues with the DJ’s audio. Keep scrolling for more photos and videos from Wayne and Minaj’s turned-up concert during Rolling Loud California, and check back later for more updates from the festival.

Nicki Minaj Proves She’s The Queen Of Rap On Our “Fire Emoji” Playlist

Another New Music Friday has come and gone. This means our Fire Emoji playlist is full of hot new singles for your streaming pleasure. Kicking things off on the first update of March is the Queen of Rap herself, Nicki Minaj. The mother of one’s flow was unsurprisingly impressive on “Red Ruby Da Sleeze. The track marks her first solo release of 2023.

As far as guest appearances go, the Trinidadian gave her debut verse of the year on Machel Montano and Destra’s “Shake the Place (Remix).” Minaj also made a long-awaited return to her home country’s Carnival festivities last month, putting on a show in her elaborately designed costume. Additionally, Queen Radio heard her dish that she’s launched her own record label, and already has four signees.

NBA YoungBoy is moving as consistently as ever, following his I Rest My Case project with two singles. “Next” and “Demon Party” have both landed over the past week. We’ve given the former a spot on Fire Emoji. Afterward, we hear an unexpected collaboration from J. Cole and j-hope, called “on the street,” which finds the Dreamville leader leaning into his bilingual side.

Speaking of the “No Role Modelz” rapper, his record label was recruited to executive produce the Creed III soundtrack. It landed alongside the move on Friday (March 3), complete with verses from Big Sean, EST Gee, Bas, and many more. Our favourite titles include Cole’s “Adonis Interlude,” as well as “Anthem.”

Holding things down for his home state of Texas is Mike Dimes, whose “HEAVY METAL” single is nothing short of Fire Emoji. The song is due to appear on his upcoming project, which will follow 2022’s IN DIMES WE TRUST. Elsewhere on our playlist, a selection of must-hear collaborations close things out.

Larry June and The Alchemist came together for “89 Earthquake,” and from the former’s Gumbo project, Young Nudy and 21 Savage made magic on “Peaches & Eggplants.” Our final title of the weekend came from a link up between Conway the Machine, and Jae Skeese, which fans are clearly loving already.

Stream it all on our Fire Emoji playlist below, exclusively on Spotify. Afterward, tell us which of this week’s new titles you’ll be adding to your own rotation in the comments. Make sure to check back on Sunday (March 5) for more release recommendations on our R&B Season update.

Nicki Minaj’s Record Label Signs 4 Artists: Nana Fofie, Skeng, London Hill, And Rico Danna

She fell back, she had a baby. She did the mother thing, the wife thing, all that… But now, Nicki Minaj is ready to put her foot on the music industry’s neck once again. 2022 saw her begin an impressive comeback to the rap game, and this New Music Friday (March 4), she dropped off her first single of the year, “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” much to fans’ pleasure. Of course, that wasn’t the only big announcement she had in store for us this weekend.

As the weekend was beginning, the mother of one revealed during her Queen Radio show that she officially has a record label of her own, making her the first female artist to achieve such a feat. “I’m not gonna announce the name but I have a record label now,” she dished during last night’s episode. “Because I believe so strongly in loyalty and because I spent my whole life giving you others that turned around and shit on me.”

Nicki Has Big News

As UrbanIslandz reports, Minaj first teased the possibility of her own label in January 2022. Obviously, the Queen of Rap can only have the best on her team, which is why she hired Wendy Goldstein as president of her Republic Records imprint. The industry executive has spent 30 years overseeing creatives in hip-hop, beginning at Epic Records in 1993 and later securing the bag as an A&R at Universal Music’s Geffen Records. In her time in the latter position, she signed the likes of Mos Def, Common, and The Roots.

Elsewhere in her announcement, the Trinidadian native announced that she’s already brought on four signees, each of them bringing something totally unique to the table. First up is Ghanaian singer, Nana Fofie, who appeared in the studio with Minaj as she was doing her Queen Radio broadcast. We’ll also be hearing from Jamaica’s Skeng, who was recently seen shooting a music video with the fashionista during her Carnival vacation in her homeland.

First Signees Revealed

Others who Nicki Minaj wants you to have on your radar include Bronx rapper London Hill, and Rico Danna. The former previously appeared alongside the 40-year-old on her “Likkle Miss (Fine Nine Remix),” and was quick to react to last night’s exciting news. “I Told Ya I Was Cooking Just Wait On Me Yall Love Yall xoxooo,” she wrote on social media.

As for the latter, we saw the rap diva support his “Yeah Yeah” single last October, at which time she teased “big things coming.” Are you excited to hear what Minaj’s record label has in store? Sound off in the comments, and check back later for more hip-hop news updates.

Nicki Minaj Shades Megan Thee Stallion, Latto On “Red Ruby Da Sleeze”

Nicki Minaj doesn’t need to pop out but when she does, there’s certainly something worth addressing. And in recent months, the Pink Friday rapper has undoubtedly found herself trading words with a few of the new generation of rappers – many of which she’s influenced. Her issues with Latto took center stage when the Grammy nominations emerged. Her chart-topping single, “Super Freaky Girl” was shifted out of the rap categories, leading to a negative mention of Latto over the success of her massive hit record “Big Energy.”

On top of her issues with Latto, fans speculate that there’s been tension between Nicki and Megan Thee Stallion. Though Nicki embraced Meg when she first came on the scene, collaborating on “Hot Girl Summer,” it seemed as though things took a turn when “WAP” came out. Meg’s decision to work with Nicki’s nemesis ultimately severed their relationship and it seems that Nicki Minaj is out for blood these days.

Nicki Takes Shots At Megan

There’s a lot to unpack on Nicki’s “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” especially the numerous subliminal shots she takes across the record. There are numerous points where she takes aim at the other women who are killing it in rap. She seemingly references Latto as a Karen, once again, when she raps, “We don’t be Karen like Donna-na, na-na-na-na.” Nicki previously called Latto “Karen” during a back-and-forth on Twitter.

However, it’s the subtle aim at Megan Thee Stallion that feels prominent across the record. During the first verse, she raps, “700 on them horses when we fixin’ to leave/ But I don’t fuck with horses since Christopher Reeve.” Then, there’s a reference to Doritos, a brand that struck a deal with Megan Thee Stallion” “Dorito bitches mad that they not chose.” Finally, Nicki seemingly references allegations that Tory Lanez’s told Megan “dance, bitch” the night she was shot. “That .40 cal a make ’em dance like a go-go,” Nicki raps. All in all, fans are convinced that Nicki’s addressing a few of her adversaries in hip-hop. Check out the song above and a few reactions below.
