Kodak Black Encourages His Foes To “Cherish The Moment”

Kodak Black is sending a fair warning on one of his new songs, “Cherish The Moment.” “Boy, if I want your soul, better give it / ‘Fore your family keep ending up missin’.” This is just one of them, as he sounds menacing with his deliberate flows over a piano-backed trap beat. Bars like the one we just mentioned feed into his theme of being committed to the streets and taking names. “Now that I got me a switch
Ain’t finna leave the hood ’cause I got rich / I told ’em, “Bury me right in the ditch” / I’m just gone keep investin’ in this s
***.”

Speaking of these lines in particular, Kodak experiments with a unique cadence that’s hard to explain in crystal clear terms. How we would describe it is that he sounds confused and is asking, “what did I do?” It’s just another reason why Kodak is still so unique years deep into his career. He really will try anything, even if every risk doesn’t fully pan out. But this one does, and it gives “Cherish The Moment” even more replay ability and some character. This is one of 10 new songs in the Project Baby’s discography, and they all come on his third overall project, Trill Bill. Check it out with the link below.

Juice Wrld Wrestles With Addiction & Anxiety On “Party By Myself”

There’s some belief/hope that The Party Never Ends by Juice WRLD will not be the final album. However, his estate continues to affirm that it will be. With that said, this title may be a reflection that even though this could be the last hurrah, the rapper’s current discography and legacy will never end. But in that same breath, the reason we mentioned that there’s hope that more music is coming is because of the fanbase’s view on the tape. Some have been highly critical of its quality, with folks in this camp being of the mindset that this is not how Juice would have made this album.

Additionally, DJ Scheme shared similar feelings, especially in relation to multi-genre hitmaking producer benny blanco’s inclusion. He felt the promotion and overall execution were off. But still, there are some redeemable traits to the project. “Party By Myself” feels like early classic Juice with the sad guitar loops, slow tempo, all while he sounds distraught and lost. It checks all the boxes for fans of his who enjoyed his openness to talk about his own personal issues like addiction, loneliness, and anxiety. “Party By Myself” also hits due to its earworm melody and chorus. Overall, the plan to release The Party Never Ends is up for debate. But there are some replayable tracks, with “Party By Myself” being one.

“Party By Myself” – Juice Wrld

Quotable Lyrics:

I’m leanin’ like I’m using a needle
Probably party by myself because I don’t fuck with people
Marijuana with the pills, euphoric and cerebral
I do it all to chase the thrill (Thrill)
I know what I’m doing’s illegal
But ain’t nothin’ else gon’ numb my pain like the pills and the reefer

Russ Gets Nostalgic And Thankful On Soulful “SSX Tricky”

Russ has been a fixture in the hip-hop scene since the early 2010s. Since debuting with his album Velvet in 2011, he has released fifteen more projects, his most recent being SANTIAGO last August. Though his time in the mainstream was short, Russ has built an unwavering fanbase through the years. One so consistent that he can tour regularly and put out new music multiple times a year. “SSX Tricky” is his latest track, taking its name from the PS2/Xbox video game. The accompanying video shows Russ playing the iconic game on the couch in what is meant to be a basement while he raps the lyrics.

The track feels nostalgic, with a beat (produced by DVNT) that features a prominent slowed-down soul sample. On the hook, Russ talks about being a 90s baby, giving a shoutout to Trish Stratus, who he cites as his first crush. From there, he talks about his childhood, before pivoting into more modern subjects. He also throws in a Demon Slayer reference for good measure. The second verse is Russ reflecting on his career and some of his biggest accomplishments so far, like performing at Barclays Center. He does some flexing, and ensures he’s going to “talk game until he’s old, Hubie Brown” (the legendary 91-year-old Hall of Fame basketball coach and broadcaster who recently announced plans to retire from ESPN at the end of this NBA season). Overall, the track is a solid thank you to his fans and a reiteration that Russ doesn’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. Check out “SSX Tricky” below.

She say, “Okay, see you in five”, but I’m not Lu Dort

Kodak Black Wants To “Burn It Up” On Latest Album Cut

Kodak Black’s latest mixtape Trill Bill was released on Friday. The tape is typical Kodak Black, with themes of money, drugs, sex, and violence. But, it is over surprisingly calm, almost cloudy, mid-tempo production. One example of this is “Burn It Up,” one of the better tracks from Kodak’s new tape. The beat, produced by Ryan Prieur, is understated. It sounds like something that would be at home on a Cash Cobain project. In that regard, it does not sound like something that Kodak Black would normally do. But lyrically, it is another straightforward effort for the controversial Florida rapper. His trademark flexing and street raps are once again joined together on another track.

Kodak Black sounds energized (as energized as he can be, at least) on the track, with the hook’s repetition of “turn it up” and “burn a n***a up” being quite catchy. The verse is witty, with “all black can’t see nothing, so they say it was Darth Vader” being a standout line. At barely two and a half minutes, the track does not overstay its welcome, and it’s a solid performance from Kodak. Of course, Kodak Black is a prolific artist, so not everything he releases in a given year sticks, but this could be a track that does. Check out “Burn It Up” below and give Trill Bill a shot if you have positive thoughts on what you heard here.

Juice WRLD & Offset “Celebrate” On New Posthumous Track

Juice WRLD’s estate released The Party Never Ends, his third posthumous album, on Friday. The album features contributions from Nicki Minaj, Eminem, and others. One of those “others” is Offset, who appears on the track “Celebrate.” “Celebrate” is produced by Metro Boomin, and was previously unheard until a leak in December 2023. Metro previously had production credits on Fighting Demons, the second posthumous release by his estate. The track is a low-key banger, and feels like something that Juice would have released if he was still alive, though it is still clear that the track was not finished in his lifetime.

The beat is menacing, and both Juice WRLD and Offset deliver strong verse. They give some gun bars, with the two of them threatening to “put some money in the street” (putting a bounty on someone, for the uninitiated). Offset’s verse is twice as long as Juice’s, likely to balance out the fact that the unfinished nature of the song. His verse feels like something he would’ve done for a Migos album, delivering some high-quality street bars. He’s at home over Metro Boomin production, and it’s very clear. Juice WRLD’s estate previously claimed that The Party Never Ends is the last posthumous album from the rapper, who died on December 8, 2019, just six days after his 21st birthday. However, with over a thousand unreleased tracks to his name, it is hard to say if that is truly the case yet. Regardless, give “Celebrate” a listen.

Juice WRLD & Offset – “Celebrate”

Quotable Lyrics:

Thinking back to the good old days, nowadays I’m over-stressed
When I say good old days, I’m talkin’ bout He-Man, no lil’ ThunderCats, huh
Well, I’ve been down, the devil been on the prowl
He loves when I frown, make him and his demons smile
On me they dog-pile, I done got way too involved now
Hate when they play with me, told Jimmy playfully, “I’m finna burn this all down”

4batz Releases Mellow New Single “Hood Grammy”

Since entering the scene with the viral single “act ii: date @ 8,” Dallas-based singer 4batz has had a quiet 2024. His debut mixtape, U Made Me a St4r, was set to be released on Drake’s OVO Sound label after the rapper hopped on a remix of the track and took a liking to the singer. However, that did not materialize, and he instead released the project independently. None of the tracks on the tape even approximated the success of “date @ 8.” But based on the lyrics from his latest track “hood grammy,” 4batz seems to be fine with the success he’s already achieved.

“hood grammy” is a victory lap of sorts for 4batz. He talks about how he was broke when he dropped out of school, but has since made enough money to “buy a brand-new Bentley.” The track is dedicated to his mother and grandmother, the former of whom raised him as a single parent. He also dedicates the track to those in the trenches, and others who stood by him. He may not have a Grammy, but the support he’s gotten from his peers more than makes up for it in his mind. Structurally, it sounds a lot like “date @ 8,” with similar vocal flourishes and a cloudy beat. It’s a catchy track that sounds nice on a speaker. He has not announced plans for another album yet. But in the meantime, check out the new single from 4batz below.

Kevin Gates Spits Bars From The Heart On The Fast-Paced Track “Be Somebody”

Kevin Gates is an artist who has been in the game for a while now, and throughout the years, he has continuously improved his craft. Although he may not be making hits like “Two Phones” and “Really Really” anymore, he makes up for it in his storytelling and wisdom. Overall, his songs are motivational in nature, and that is certainly true of his most recent single which was released on YouTube recently. The song is called “Be Somebody” and it can be listened to down below.

As the name of the song would suggest, this track is all about finding yourself and becoming the best version of you, regardless of the circumstances. Gates discusses all of the hardships he had to go through before becoming the man he is today. Moreover, he delivers emotional passages on leaning on your loved ones through hard times. These are messages that many can relate to, and it is why Gates’ music always seems to resonate.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see what Kevin Gates’ musical plans will be. Perhaps we will get a new album in the new year. Or perhaps Gates is just having fun and releasing singles here and there until he feels like an album is what’s necessary. Whatever the case may be, we are happy to have new Gates songs. Overall, he is always elevating, and we want to know what he has to say. Additionally, a Kevin Gates rollout with more iconic interviews is always appreciated.

Chance The Rapper Treats Fans To A New Writing Exercise As New Album Demands Increase

Chance The Rapper has been dropping a lot of loose material over the past two years, but some fans feared that the new Star Line album that was on the way wouldn’t manifest at all. Fortunately, we have a new reason to assuage those fears, as he dropped a new “writing exercise” on YouTube. It’s a new song about the things in life that nobody can prepare you for, filtered through the Chicago MC’s perspective as an artist, businessman, and as a Black man. While the instrumental remains quite light, soulful, and soothing, there’s a more melancholy and almost pessimistic tone to the actual content that creates a compelling contrast.

For those unaware, one of Chance The Rapper’s last drops was “3333,” which was also a bit of a conceptual track about his love for performing and a particularly undersold Minnesota show. These new cuts have all been very interesting, as their introspection and airy sonic pallet shows a lot of heartfelt reflection and lack of pretense. With this new track, Chance also announced the “Writings on the Wall” event in Miami from December 3 to December 6, which will be a chance to listen to this new Star Line album and what its introspective nature will yield.

Chance The Rapper’s New Writing Exercise

Elsewhere, Chance The Rapper recently took a break from his next musical moves to seemingly address the United States election this year. “For the lost,” he captioned a post containing various Black leaders throughout history, evoking not just their revolutionary or transgressive rhetoric, but also their imagery. It’s a bit too vague to fully attribute it to the election’s outcome, but given all the context of the past few weeks, it certainly makes sense.

Meanwhile, this upcoming Miami listening event for Star Line wouldn’t be the first, and previous iterations already generated a lot of hype for the new album. But still, we don’t know what Chance The Rapper is waiting for when it comes to this new project, as we’ve been in rollout and loosie single mode for a while. At least we know that a solid LP will result from it.

EST Gee Treats Fans To Knocking Anthem With New Single “The Streets”

EST Gee has an understated charisma. The rapper has a magnetic quality with having to resort to crazy deliveries or outrageous flows. He’s always in the pocket, and he makes music that is mellow, yet tinged with a menacing undercurrent. “The Streets” is a perfect example of these two dynamics co-existing on the same song. EST Gee’s latest is a lean street anthem that sees the rapper find a catchy pocket and ride it out over an organ-heavy instrumental.

There’s definitely a Southern flavor to the instrumental. The organ stabs anchor the drums, and then rise to the forefront during the chorus. It sounds like an instrumental that a Young Jeezy or a T.I. would get on two decades ago, but with a modern update. EST Gee brings the same slick yet weary delivery that T.I.P. and the Snowman perfected in their primes. The lyrics are pretty standard, and adhere to the title of the song, but EST Gee’s conviction is what really gets this song across the finish line. You believe him when he spits: “I was slidin’ and poppin’ sh*t with the same n**gas I was coppin’ bricks.” “The Streets” is yet another win for Gee.

J Cole Previews Two Unreleased Kendrick Lamar Collabs Amidst Feud

J Cole and Kendrick Lamar have a fascinating relationship. They are two of the most revered rappers of their generation, and two thirds of the “Big Three.” They’ve shown love to each other, and then dissed each other. It’s all very messy and recent, but J Cole is not shying away from the history between him and Dot on his new podcast Inevitable. Cole not only spoke on Lamar during a recent episode, but he previewed two unreleased songs from a joint album they worked on circa 2010.

Long time J Cole and Kendrick Lamar fans will recognize these songs. We’re going back to the Datpiff days with these ones. J Cole previewed “Temptations” and “Shock the World,” which were previewed for attendees of a record store release back in 2010. There’s video footage of Kendrick Lamar rapping to the songs alongside fans on YoTube. The audio quality, though, as long time fans can attest, is rough. Fans can be heard cheering and exclaiming in the background of the recordings that do exist. J Cole decided to give the public (those who remembered, at least), what they wanted with CDQ versions during via his podcast.

J Cole and Kendrick Lamar Planned To Make A Joint LP

“Temptations” sees J Cole and Kendrick Lamar swap stellar verses over a harp-driven Cole beat. “Shock the World,” meanwhile, features both rappers and a chorus sung by former TDE affiliate BJ the Chicago Kid. Not only do fans get to hear what these songs sound like in their official form, but they get to hear the context of how the songs came together. Cole discusses their making, and the musical chemistry that was immediately recognizable between him and Lamar in the studio.

These songs obviously hit different in light of songs like “Like That” and “7 Minute Drill.” The J Cole and Kendrick Lamar relationship has grown increasingly frayed in the last year. Cole recently dropped “Port Antonio,” which is an extended explanation of what went down between him, Drake and Lamar, and why he chose to bow out of the feud. Cole’s reputation has arguably taken the biggest hit of the “Big Three.” The fact that he’s looking back, though, and seemingly at peace with his relationship with both rappers, means that we can get fascinating peeks into an alternate history courtesy of these unreleased collabs.
