JP Comes Through With Milwaukee Low-End Slaps On New Project “Coming Out Party”

JP is an artist who has been bubbling as of late thanks to a plethora of viral singles. Overall, it mostly started with the release of “Bad Bitty” earlier this year. Ultimately, this song could very well be the song of the summer. When it hit Twitter, it became a phenomenon with fans fawning over JP and his vocal style. Moreover, his signature moves and infectious energy had people in a trance. Since that time, he has dropped off some dope single, including “Come And See” and “Never Make Me Hate You.” Now, he is here with his album, Coming Out Party.

The project is 12 tracks long and there are no features to be found here. Instead, JP embraces the Milwaukee low-end sound that has proven to be incredibly popular online. From the fast claps to danceable rhythms, JP showcases that he is more than just a one-hit wonder. The artist is also incredibly melodic, and uses his gospel influences to his advantage. We interviewed JP recently, and he told us that his vocal style has always come naturally to him. Needless to say, music is just second nature for the Wisconsin artist.

Lupe Fiasco Continues To Lyrically Dazzle With New Single “CAKE”

Lupe Fiasco is not messing around. The rapper famously had a rough patch in his career in the 2010s, but he’s really regained his footing and reclaimed his reputation as one of the best rappers walking the planet. Fiasco has been teasing his upcoming album SAMURAI online, and the title track proved that he was going to take full advantage of the metaphor of him being a lyrical master. The wordplay was dense and the production was tasteful. The trend thankfully continues with this new track, “CAKE.”

Lupe Fiasco wisely reunites with producer Soundtrakk, who is responsible for absolute classic Lu singles like “Superstar” and “Kick, Push.” The new song lacks the catchy chorus of those singles, but the verses are absolutely staggering. The Chicago rapper doesn’t waste any time, and immediately launches into a multi-syllable rhyme scheme that parallels, among other things, the death of singer Janis Joplin with the apocalypse. It makes sense in context, but the wordplay is so dense that it helps to actually pull up the lyrics and read along. The important distinction between current Lu and dark age Lu, though, is that it sounds good. Regardless of what goes over the listener’s head, “CAKE” is another jazzy boom bap standout that has us excited for SAMURAI.

Latto, Megan Thee Stallion And Flo Milli Give Us “Sunday Service (Remix)”

“Sunday Service” was already a hard-hitting track from Latto. The truck-rattling beat and the attitude made it one of the rapper’s best singles to date. Now, we have the remix. The ascending rapper has put out a star-studded second version of the song with verses from Megan Thee Stallion and Flo Milli. It’s a classic move for a big single, and to no one’s surprise, it works perfectly here. All three rappers sound great over the new version of the track, and their chemistry is palpable.

Flo Milli gets to kick off the remix, and she brings her trademark combination of guttural rhymes with a high-pitched voice. She even manages to work in the title of the song in a threatening fashion. “Wanna fight me ’bout some d*ck ’cause you checkin’ n**gas’ phones. I hope that ain’t your only n**ga, he ain’t never comin’ home,” she raps. “Ho, I’ll take over your city, b*tch, you p**sy, you a kitty. We pull up like Sunday Service, beat a b*tch and show no pity.” The tone is instantly set, and Latto carries the baton during the middle portion of the song. The rapper sounds smoother over the beat than her peer, and Megan Thee Stallion brings it home with a typically aggressive (and quotable) sixteen. Everybody did their job on this one.

Tems And J Cole Make For A Sultry Combination On “Free Fall”

Tems brings sultriness and soulfulness on every track in which she appears. It’s the combination of these qualities that’s made her such a sought after feature in the music world. It’s also what makes her debut album, Born In the Wild, such a mesmerizing listen. The Nigerian singer emphasizes all of her strengths and displays very few weaknesses over the album’s 18 tracks. She handles most of these tracks alone, but “Free Fall,” the single featuring J Cole, is an unmistakable highlight. The two artists join forces for a beautiful meditation on love and regret.

Tems’ vocals are achingly vulnerable. The lyrics follow suit. “Sorry if you don’t know what you’re doing with me. How you do me wrong then call my name, my name,” she sings in the pre-chorus. “Too late for you, babe, I don’t think I can let you in. I’m not opened up anymore.” The singer has a talent for evoking beauty and tragedy simultaneously, as evidenced by some of the album’s teaser tracks, but “Free Fall” kicks it up a notch. J Cole also delivers. The rapper has struggled to get his footing post Kendrick beef, as evidenced by the head-scratching “Grippy” verse, but he’s back in his element. Cole shines when it comes to detailing complicated romances, and his appearance on “Free Fall” evokes fan-favorite guest spots like “Warm Enough” and “Pretty Little Fears.”

Doechii Goes Hard On The Short, High-Energy Banger “MPH”

Doechii has been on a bit of a role recently with her new singles and she doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. Last year she scored the biggest hit of her career so far with “What It Is.” Two different versions of the song one with Kodak Black and one without have surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify. Earlier this year, she was included in a document of Top Dawg Entertainment artists who are expected to release new albums this year. It’s not clear if her newest release will land on the eventual album, but that hasn’t stopped fans from eating it up.

The track is called “MPH” and it’s a short, right to the point banger. The song dropped overnight and it gets right to the point across a brief two minute runtime. The song has a dancy instrumental even as Doechii calls out her haters claiming that whatever they’re doing, it isn’t dancing. A few fans have speculated that some of the more pointed lyrics on the song could be aiming at Azealia Banks. The pair went back and forth online earlier this year though it hadn’t escalated to music yet. There’s no real confirmation of any of that but in a year where rap beef has dominated the news cycle it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise. Listen to the new song in its entirety and judge for yourself below.

Back in March, Doechii teamed up with JT for another hard-hitting new single called “Alter Ego.” What do you think of Doechii’s rapid fire new single “MPH?” Do you think she’s dissing Azealia Banks with lyrical references to covens and OnlyFans? Let us know in the comment section below.

Quotable Lyrics:
This moment mean everything to me, so you know I wouldn’t just take it for granted
I tell you what it took to get me here, but I don’t think you really understand it

Montell Fish Feels Lost On Dark & Cold Single “Who Did You Touch?”

Montell Fish is a pretty mysterious artist for a few reasons. For one, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is always crafting some abstract works that not many others are able to replicate. That was especially a case on his recent project, Intercession Before Charlotte. This brings us two reason number two; his alter ego. This March EP was a “collaboration” with dj gummy bear, which is a separate personality altogether. The 26-year-old explains that he is,” A character from the brain of Montell Fish. Used as a way to further experiment with sounds, concepts, and musical ideas”.

When we covered Intercession Before Charlotte, we came to discover that it was pre-cursor to a full album. The title of it is simply Charlotte and it is coming sometime soon. We know this because of Montell Fish’s lead single “Who Did You Touch?”. This the Christian artist’s first solo offering since the September single “I Just Wanna Feel Your Love Again”. Soon, Charlotte will supersede the 2022 LP, Her Love Still Haunts Me Like a Ghost.

Listen To “Who Did You Touch?” By Montell Fish

On “Who Did You Touch?”, Montell Fish exhibits feelings of jealousy, loneliness, and deceitfulness. On this cavernous and cold guitar-heavy instrumental, the multi-talent repeats the lines, “Who did you touch last night? / Why did you think that I won’t figure out?… I don’t know you no— / I don’t know you no more“. He feels betrayed by a woman who he really loves who goes out and makes herself available to others. It is a pretty heartbreaking song, and one that begins to paint the picture of what we might hear more of later on.

What are your thoughts on “Who Did You Touch?” by Montell Fish? Is this one of his better tracks as of late, why or why not? Does this get you excited for his upcoming album? What aspect of the song did you enjoy the most? Will Charlotte be his best project to date? Moses Sumney Wants Old-School Love On The Breathtaking “Vintage”

Moses Sumney is the definition of a bada**. The Asheville, North Carolina really does it all. He can sing, produce, direct, act, and write all while being underrated somehow. He is a true unicorn and someone that needs more flowers than he already receives. Mainstream listeners might know him for his feature credits with artists like The Weeknd, Metro Boomin, James Blake, among others. But he is much more than that, as his solo material has produced some truly beautiful pieces of art. One of those works includes the latest single from Moses Sumney, “Vintage”.

This is the latest offering from the 32-year-old soul/R&B veteran, and it follows up on a feature he did for Shabaka on “Insecurities”. Hopefully, “Vintage” is the start of an album rollout, because this song deserves that kind of shine. Moses pens an endearing song about a love that he feels needs to go back to its old ways. To us, there is also a metaphor of how relationships do not feel as treasured as they used to when previous generations were finding their partners.

It is all performed with a breathy and delicate delivery, and a dynamic vocal range. The instrumental is also wonderfully blissful. The light drum patterns to the piano and sparkly synths are so complementary and add a lot of whimsy to “Vintage”. Not only do the lyrics portray it, but the beat also has that “Afro-sheen on it“. This track for Moses Sumney comes at an exciting time, as he is going to appear in the upcoming horror film MaXXXine, which stars Mia Goth, Lily Collins, Halsey, and Kevin Bacon. You can check out the track above and the movie on July 5.

What are your thoughts on “Vintage” by Moses Sumney? Is this one of his best songs as of late, why or why not? Do you think he is due to drop a new album this year? Redveil Shines Once Again On “WHEW LAWD (Freestyle)”

You are not going to find many other dual threats like redveil in today’s game. Still just 20 years old, the Maryland rapper and producer still has so much untapped potential. However, when you listen to him, it might not sound like it. He really got a lot of people’s attention back in 2022 with his sophomore record, learn 2 swim. It was a terrific blend of jazz, soul and hip-hop and featured the songs like “diving board” and “pg baby”, among other fine deep cuts.

He also dropped a shorter project last year called playing w/ fire, but we think we can speak for most fans when we say we want to hear a new album. While we impatiently wait for that, redveil has been holding folks over with some dope freestyles. One of them that we enjoyed quite a bit was “DRAMA”, which released later last year to YouTube and Soundcloud. But the man returned just last night with “WHEW LAWD”, which showcases his spectacular producing and rapping chops again.

Listen To “WHEW LAWD (Freestyle)” By Redveil

“WHEW LAWD” sees him incorporate a soul sample beautifully into the energetic and stank face-inducing beat. To give himself a pat on the back for this fire freestyle, he likens himself to Kanye West in a hilarious but apt way. You can tell that he is inspired by the Georgia legend, as early Ye was always chopping up the soul samples. However, redveil also loves him some Denzel Curry, as the inflection in his voice sounds nearly identical on this cut. It is a small nitpick as to why he is still has some ways to go as an artist, but we would be foolish to not give the track its flowers.

What are your thoughts on “WHEW LAWD (Freestyle)” by redveil? Is this the best freestyle of his career, why or why not? Do you think he is due to drop a new album this year? What aspect of the song did you enjoy the most? Is he one of the best dual threats we have right now? POLO PERKS <3 <3 <3 & FearDorian Continue To Tease A Supposed Album With “Skatepark”

POLO PERKS, stylized as POLO PERKS <3 <3 <3, is becoming one of hip-hop’s more unique artists thanks to his relationship with producer FearDorian. It seems that the combo of the Harlem, New Yorker and Atlanta Georgian are always looking to challenge each other in the studio. That was certainly the case on the most recent single, “Ricky Eats Acid”. Now, POLO PERKS is back not too long after that April 26 release with “Skatepark”.
