Polo G Details His Mental State & Past On “S.I.P.”

Polo G had his fans impatiently waiting for a new album for three whole years. It didn’t help that a fair number of people weren’t the biggest Hall of Fame apologists either. There was some belief out there that the Chicago rapper and singer was losing some of his touch and drive, to an extent. Given all of that, there was hope that he would get back to quality that was present on THE GOAT and Die A Legend. Unfortunately, when he came back in early August with the highly teased HOOD POET, some were let down due to the lack of chances or updates made to his sound.

The “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality is something Polo G seems to live by and it’s carrying into “S.I.P.” At times, this method works to his advantage, as his hardcore supporters appreciate the lore and his come-up. Both areas are covered on this introspective cut, as talks about his current mental state and how his unstable childhood may have influenced some of the decisions he makes today. With this coming so soon after HOOD POET, there’s some real speculation from Genius and his contemporaries that a 2.0 version could be arriving sometime soon. For now, check out the track on DSPs or wait until 5 p.m. to watch the premiere of its music video.

Quotable Lyrics:

I kept f***in’ up, I’m the one that hurt my own feelings
I’m up twenty million, still be tryna go back home killin’
Know these drugs hurt my health, told me, “Quit,” but I don’t listen

Paris Texas Slowly Peel Back The Layers On Personal Single “Rokkout”

Paris Texas, experimental rap rock duo from L.A. are back solo for the first time this year with “RokKOut.” Throughout the first 10, almost 11 months, Felix and Louie Pastel have been playing the feature role for Haich Ber Na, Bien et Toi, and Kenny Mason. However, they are ready to reintroduce themselves for those who may have forgotten about them. They really broke through last year with their MID AIR album, as fans were extremely high on it. “RokKOut” could be the start of the next album rollout, but that remains to be seen for now.

At the beginning of this near four-minute cut, Felix and Louie keep the mood pretty casual and braggadocious. In typical Texas fashion, the instrumental is anything but normal as there’s a funky synth loop and quirky background vocals added in for good measure. However, things get steadily more personal and introspective after the second verse. Louie raps about severe levels of addiction run in his family, as well as his issues with his father and the insecurities he harbors. Felix wraps things up with a similarly heavy dose of painful bars about his late dad and how he wasn’t around for his final breaths. He blames himself mercilessly for it and it still weighs on him to this day. It’s progressive, emotional, and hard-hitting and we think it’s one of the best releases so far this week.

Quotable Lyrics:

And what I got, to show for it is every drop of pain
I hope my pops, his blood wash over me like DMX
To this day I still regret not being there for his last breathe
Before he dropped-
I couldn’t help but fall victim to change
To be my biggest fan and balance somewhat-pseudo fame

Kid Cudi Pulls From A Nostalgic Era For “The Moon Man Survives”

Kid Cudi is an artist and multi-talented one at that. Throughout his musical career he’s moved into other areas of entertainment including acting and now comic books. The Cleveland native partnered with Image Comics to release his first ever series called Moon Man. It launched at the very end of January this year and there’s going to be seven issues in total. As of today, Scott Mescudi is on the fifth comic and its available now here. The final book will be out on January 15, 2025, and coincidentally, that is potentially when the soundtrack for Moon Man will arrive. It just says 2025 on the annotation, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it dropped that month or soon after.

He has been teasing this accompanying project since the start of this comic book venture and we are four tracks deep now. That is accurate as of just a few hours ago because Kid Cudi has delivered “THE MOON MAN SURVIVES.” The premise of the comics are about a man wanting to live a normal life after a failed mission to the moon. However, the complete opposite happens throughout the story and those themes pop up in this track here. Cudi’s character, Ramon, struggles to be well at times. But on “THE MOON MAN SURVIVES,” it seems that he’s a strong individual who is able to overcome setbacks. Fans appreciate the track for its message, but also because of the era it’s pulling from. It seems it’s from the Indicud sessions and it was recorded during a rough period in his life. If you have heard that project, you’ll be able to pick up on the similarities quickly. Its classic Cudi and in the best way.

Evilgiane & Guapo Drop The Perfect Trap Banger For Spooky Season With “Halloween Freestyle”

Their aren’t many producers like evilgiane right now, and there may never be. The Yonkers, New York native now based in Brookyln has been shifting the culture in the underground scene for several years now. His Surf Gang collective has become one of the hottest things in that area of hip-hop thanks to their innovative production choices and unique performers. In fact, their sound has become so popular that evilgiane has been able to work with some of the mainstream powerhouses such as Kendrick Lamar, Baby Keem, Maxo Kream, and more. But in staying true to his roots, he’s still experimenting with rising stars more often than not. Today, evilgiane is back with a new single “HALLOWEEN FREESTYLE,” which features Houston rapper Guapo.

As you can tell by the title of the track, it’s got a spooky season vibe going on right down to the ominous cover art. The beat is extremely chilling thanks to the twinkly and ghoulish synth patches. Additionally, Guapo’s cold and violent vocals and lyrics add some extra tension, upping the eeriness tenfold. The instrumental sounds like it was taken from an 80’s horror movie’s score. Evilgiane makes it sound dramatic, but he doesn’t go over the top with it one bit. “HALLOWEEN FREESTYLE” is the first time these two have worked together, and it follows a series of releases from giane. He just dropped off a collab tape with Harto Falion called .BloOdY-gEeKeR* at the end of September. Additionally, the veteran had some singles with SADPONY and sniper2004, as well as with Nourished by Time and Goner.

Femtanyl & Danny Brown Link For Off-The-Wall Rager “M3 N Min3”

Danny Brown is never one to hop on conventional production and work with your standard artists. Almost all of the proof you need is on any one of his albums. Most recently, the Detroit underground icon pushed boundaries on his SCARING THE H*ES with JPEGMAFIA, as well as his solo LP Quaranta. Even though they aren’t for everyone lyrically and sonically, they were still some of the best releases last year. Now, Danny Brown is dipping his toes into the worlds of glitch and digital hardcore alongside femtanyl. Not to be confused with the dangerous drug, femtanyl is a Canadian producer and vocalist.

According to her Genius profile, “Her work has often been described as “digital hardcore,” focusing on subjects of depressive or nostalgic themes and connections to life as a trans woman in the modern day.” She’s certainly got some intriguing and niche aspects to her music, so if you’re looking for something outside the box, be sure to try out “M3 N MIN3.” This collab with Danny Brown is her first one, and given how cohesive they sound together, it may not be their last. The lyricism is extremely descriptive and gruesome at times, with lyrics like, “Lymph node infection / Go spit the leeches on the ground / It’s just seizures on repeat now.” The production is extremely fast-paced and perfect for a neon lit party. 9lives Produces An Ethereal Jersey Club Piece With “My Way” Featuring Rico Nasty & Kanii

9lives, one of the more popular underground producers going today, has a new breakup single out this weekend called “my way.” It features the ever so talented and versatile Rico Nasty, as well as frequent collaborator of the New Zealand native, Kanii. The 20-year-old really likes what he has here with “my way,” especially when it comes to Ms. Nasty’s portions. “Rico killed her verse and hook. It feels to me that she’s talking about her ex, and that nothing is going to get in her way of moving on. I think that it’s empowering for anyone who’s going through something right now.” This is 9lives’ latest single, as it follows up on his collaboration with Kanii and Anycia on “I DID IT” back in August.

The song is catchy thanks to both of his guest’s melodies, but also because of the beat. Here, 9lives lays down a Jersey club instrumental that’s tender and light on its feet. That quality is brought out thanks to its softer drum patterns and ethereal background. The layers continue from there, though. 9lives includes synths that sound like ones from Minecraft or some other indie sandbox game. Overall, he has been dropping a lot lately, so there is some hope that an album is imminent. Nothing has been announced yet though, so we are just going to have to wait and see. But he does have a tour coming up. According to a press release, he will be starting his trek in Hamburg, Germany on November 30. Kanii is joining 9lives and the #BLUE tour will run through December 17.

Bruiser Wolf & Zack Fox Trade Fantastic Verses On “Mountain Lion”

Bruiser Wolf has become one of hip-hop’s lovable goofballs/personalities this year. This all thanks to the tutelage of Detroit legend and underground stalwart Danny Brown. He made his big appearance on the latter’s Quaranta album from last November on the track “Y.B.P.” This has helped push his solo career, which did start at the top of 2024, to new heights. He dropped “Dope Boy,” which would go on to be the lead and only single for his breakout project, My Story Got Stories. He did have a 2021 tape Dope Game Stupid, but this one is going to help push him into the spotlight much more.

Since that project’s release, Bruiser Wolf has gone on to give us his F1LTHY collab “Rope Chain” (a pretty big surprise) and “Brick Up” prior to that. With that in mind, there’s a chance we are heading toward another new tape, perhaps near the beginning of 2025. We say that because we are back listening to another single from Bruiser Wolf, “Mountain Lion.” It features another undergrounder in Zack Fox, who brings along a longtime producer along for the ride, CONNIE. The producer gives them a stripped back instrumental, which is pretty much sample flip that features the repetition of “loving you” woven into each of their verses. It’s got a nice guitar riff laced in as well, but this track is more about Bruiser and Zack’s stellar yet totally different portions, tonally speaking.

The Kid LAROI Gasses Up Tate McRae On “APEROL SPRITZ”

The Kid LAROI made a massive comeback almost one year ago with the release of his official debut album, THE FIRST TIME. The native Aussie gave listeners a bit of everything sonically on that project from pop rap, trap, singer/songwriter, and more. However, he wasn’t done with that era immediately. After having fans waiting for so long, he wanted to feed them well, and he did just that. Just over two months ago, LAROI dropped off the deluxe version with eight new songs featuring singles “HEAVEN” and “GIRLS.”

Then, just over two weeks ago, him and Gunna linked up for a remix of another deluxe cut in “BABY I’M BACK.” Now, fast forward to this weekend and it seems like The Kid LAROI is ready to shift gears to new things, as he drops off “APEROL SPRITZ.” We only say new because this isn’t a remix or anything like that. The soundscape is something you come to expect from the youngster. The most interesting thing about this single is that it looks to be a love letter to his new boo, Canadian pop star Tate McRae. Why is it called “APEROL SPRITZ?” Well, allegedly, this summery and citrusy alcoholic drink is McRae’s favorite. There are also apparently some callbacks to how they first met, so if you are into that sort of thing, knock yourself out with the link below.

Skepta Flashes His Vulnerable Side With Flo Milli On “Why Lie?”

Some people may have forgot, so we are going to remind y’all. Skepta made a big announcement at the top of 2024, and it was for his next album. The UK legend’s sixth studio album is a grand return for him as well, as he’s been more in the thick of the EDM and grime scenes over the last few years. Since the reveal, Big Smoke has gone on to give us four possible singles, with “Jangrova,” a January 19 release, being the first. The rollout hit a bit of a speedbump right after that, as the cover art for “Gas Me Up (Diligent)” drew some backlash for its assumed reference to The Holocaust (it wound up not being that).

Things would pick back up in March with “Tony Montana,” and then “Miss Independent” in July. Something that we have noticed from the Ignorance is Bliss rapper is that he’s looking to try out multiple soundscapes. We have heard forays into Afrobeats, trap rap, and even sexy drill. This time, Skepta is dipping his toes into pop rap with Flo Milli on “Why Lie?” He’s entirely new to this subset by any means, but it’s not his normal home either. He’s doing some more singing on this cut and even trade some lines and adlibs with the Alabama femcee. It’s not your usual Skepta, so we are curious to hear what you think about it.
