Lil Durk Doubles Down On Criticism Of XXL

Earlier this week, Lil Durk took some shots at the way XXL magazine handled his new song. Over the weekend he dropped the track “Old Days” which sees him reflecting on all of the behavior he used to do but has had to move on from in order to grow. The song discusses a number of different developments in Durk’s life across many years, but XXL chose to focus on just one thing when they covered the song. The publication highlighted the fact that Durk admitted to selling Percocets.

Clearly, Lil Durk thought that was an underwhelming way to recap the new song that ignored much of what was said. “This the only bar you heard???” he said in a tweet directed at the publication. That phrase is clearly becoming somewhat of a rallying cry for Durk and during a recent show he doubled down. He’s currently touring alongside Drake and J. Cole in the second leg of the “It’s All A Blur” tour. When they stopped in Cleveland recently Durk came prepared to make another statement. Pictures are making the round right now of him holding up red signs sporting the same phrase “That’s the only bar you heard?” Check out the pictures of the new signs from his recent show below.

Lil Durk Once Again Attacks XXL

Earlier this month, Lil Durk took home his first ever Grammy. He and J. Cole teamed up for the hit song “All My Life” last year. The track went on to take home the Grammy for Best Melodic Rap Performance. In an interview he gave during the awards he cited Beyonce as one of his dream collaborators. He hilariously declared that if he made a song with Bey he would be back at the Grammys again.

During that same interview Durk teased yet another collaboration with Morgan Wallen. He’s already worked with the country superstar on two tracks. What do you think of Lil Durk once again taking aim at XXL for the way they covered his new song? Let us know in the comment section below.

Baby Keem Teases His Upcoming New Album

Baby Keem’s most recent new album The Melodic Blue dropped back in 2021. The project was led off by some high-profile collaborations. Keem lured his cousin Kendrick Lamar away from some time off of music for a killer collab with “family ties.” He also teamed up with Travis Scott on the single “durag activity” and recruited Don Toliver for a deep cut called “cocos.” He’s gotten quite a bit of mileage out of the record with a deluxe edition and even a short film he dropped last year.

But now Keem is shifting his focus onto his next era. His next album is reportedly going to be called Child with Wolves and he recently took to his Instagram story to tease the record. “Child with Wolves Living with imperfections back to you all so soon. LUV,” he captioned his Story post. The caption is attached to a pretty simple picture of Keem himself that doesn’t reveal any information about when fans may actually get the chance to hear the album. Despite the lack of info, fans took to the comments in bulk to express their excitement. Check out the post and the fan responses to it below.

Baby Keem Teases New Album

Keem’s new era is already off to a great start. Last year, he teamed up with Kendrick Lamar once again for the irresistibly fun single “The Hillbillies.” The pair teamed up under the same name to headline Tyler, The Creator’s “Golf Wang” music festival last year.

Keem and Kendrick also popped up together in Las Vegas earlier this month. The duo were performing some of their songs together at an F1 event ahead of this year’s Super Bowl. Keem hasn’t revealed any details on the content of this new album but fans are hoping whatever it is they can hear it soon. What do you think of Baby Keem teasing fans that his new record is coming soon? Are you excited about the forthcoming album? Let us know in the comment section below.

Maino & Young Thug Team Up For New Single, “Poetry”

Last week, Maino came through with a new track alongside Young Thug, “Poetry.” The melodic single, which arrived alongside a fun accompanying music video, sees the duo spit about making money, clashing with competitors, and more. It follows the release of the deluxe edition of Maino’s 2023 album K.O.B. 4, which he unveiled in January of this year. It also follows the release of various collabs and a full-length album from Young Thug, Business Is Business, which he dropped in June of last year from prison.

It’s unclear exactly when the music video for “Poetry” was shot, however, Young Thug’s major role in it suggests that it was prior to his incarceration. The rapper was arrested in May 2022 on RICO charges and has remained behind bars ever since. He’s been on trial fighting for his freedom since November. Countless fans and peers, including Maino, continue to call for his release.

Maino & Young Thug Star In New “Poetry” Music Video

As for Maino, the NYC-born performer recently celebrated getting his own holiday. He thanked Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso on Instagram earlier this week, declaring August 16 Maino Day. “FOREVER BROOKLYN!!!!” he wrote. He also recently teased some upcoming Lobby Boyz music with Jim Jones, though further details of the project remain unclear.

What do you think of Maino and Young Thug’s new song? What about the accompanying music video? Will you be adding “Poetry” to your playlist, or not? Are you looking forward to more new music from Young Thug and Maino? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

SZA, SiR & Justin Timberlake Complete Our “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

There’s not a lot to cover on our R&B Season playlist update this week, but we still rounded up our absolute favorite drops this week for your convenience and pleasure. Leading the way is the brand-new track from SZA, “Saturn,” which she had previewed at the 2024 Grammy Awards and then released in multiple versions (sped-up, acapella, instrumental, etc.). With bright synth piano keys, a crisp and echoed percussive pattern, and the St. Louis native’s trademark buttery vocals, this song puts you in a trance very quickly. Although SOS dominated 2023, we’ll never complain about new Solana material to keep us under her spell, of which there should be more very soon.

In addition, we wanted to shout out the new single from Justin Timberlake, “Drown,” on our R&B Season playlist update. Whereas the pop star’s most famous material might be more bombastic and club-ready in many’s eyes (or ears, rather), this new song proves that some of his greatest strengths have always been in charismatic melodic performances, woozier tempos, and more intoxicating additions to a sonic atmosphere. Minimal drums, airy synth chords, and a measured but nevertheless engaging vocal performance make this a relatively dreamy cut. It does sound very clean and sanitized, but its adherence to R&B tropes and production, plus a nice beat variation, keep us listening.

Finally, we wanted to give the TDE crew special props on R&B Season, as label mates SiR and Isaiah Rashad dropped off another hazy track with “Karma.” This is another single for the former’s upcoming project, which is shaping up to be a low-key but well-crafted and highly compelling offering. With this new record, the two artists show off a lot of chemistry while lyrically diving into the concepts of karma and riding a dry but stankface-inducing drum beat with ease. We can’t wait for what’s next!

On that note, what was your favorite R&B Season cut this week? What else did we miss? Drop your thoughts in the comments down below and check out the playlist above. Also, as always, stick around on HNHH for the latest great music drops around the clock.

Sexyy Red Teases New Music On Social Media

Sexyy Red is back in the game following her recent pregnancy and birth, for which many congratulations are in order. But if you thought she was coming into 2024 with any less energy than she had in her breakout 2023, it seems like you’d be sorely mistaken. Moreover, the St. Louis MC recently returned to social media to preview some new music, in which she plays with some faster flows -– at least, at first. Then, the full drum beat, dark keys, and heavy bass set in, and it sounds like another club-ready banger like the ones she dominated with last year.

Sure, this doesn’t reinvent the wheel when it comes to the Hood Hottest Princess, but it’s exactly the kind of music that fans loved and expected. Hopefully Sexyy Red takes her time to fully craft it before dropping, as she’s got a lot on her plate for this year. The 25-year-old is one of the performers slated for The Roots Picnic, which raised many fans’ eyebrows. After all, many probably didn’t expect Questlove to be a “Pound Town” resident, but a good festival lineup should always be diverse and timely, right?

Sexyy Red’s New Music Snippet: Listen

In addition, these new music teases follow her new music video with Drake and SZA, “Rich Baby Daddy” off of the Toronto superstar’s 2023 album, For All The Dogs. It resulted in a lot of memes and artist responses, such as Sexyy Red joking that she would put Drizzy on child support and people joking about their partnership in the visuals. It’s great to see that some of the later hits of last year still have some mileage, especially one as fun and bubbly as this one. Most importantly, it keeps momentum up for whatever she’s going to drop next.

Meanwhile, what do you think about this new music that the “SkeeYee” hitmaker is teasing for her fans? Does it match to the energy of her latest single with Nardo Wick, “Somethin’“? Whatever the case and however you may feel, drop your thoughts in the comments section down below. Also, as always, log back into HNHH for the latest news and updates on Sexyy Red.

Adekunle Gold Will Have Summer Parties Going Crazy With “The Life I Chose”

Lagos, Nigeria native and Afrobeats veteran Adekunle Gold is bringing his infectious energy once again with a new single. Gold is someone we would normally not cover as often due to his genre that operates in. However, outside of his immense amount of talent, he also crosses over to work with rappers and singers from the hip-hop/R&B space. Additionally, Afropop and Afrobeats have also been extremely popular as of late. So with that, today we are covering Adekunle Gold’s newest track “The Life I Chose.”

This track is following up a very impressive 2023 for Adekunle. Last year, the veteran put out his album Tequila Ever After. It featured impressive names like Pharrell Williams, Khalid, his wife Simi, Coco Jones, and more. In 2024, things got even better for the Def Jam signee.

Midwxst Is Moving On From A Toxic Lover On “Mistakes” With 9lives

Midwxst is a rapper that sort of flew under the radar for us, but over time, the South Carolinian really blew us way late last year. He specializes in what is referred to as hyperpop which is a combination of genres that he used to near perfection on his debut album. E3 had plenty of impressive cuts like “pretty girls,” “lost,” “heartache blues,” “hate how much,” and more. Now, midwxst is back to revive that momentum with “mistakes.”

This is his first true solo release since the “warning” single for the aforementioned debut. For “mistakes,” midwxst is teaming up with a producer he some rapport with, 9lives. The beat on this one has that familiar sound from the debut and it would definitely fit snuggly into that tracklist. It has a bit of a lo-fi start before the melodic drums in. This is a sound that midwxst can really making a living off of because he sounds great it on it once again.

Listen To “Mistakes” By Midwxst & 9lives

He is rapping about an ex-girlfriend that was really dragging him down. She even went as far as to say that he would never get better. But, midwxst finds some resolve and breaks things off. In doing so, he finds that he can get through any issue he comes face to face with. It is a nice low-key song to play when you are feeling down, building yourself back up, or when you are headed out on a night drive.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “mistakes,” by midwxst and 9lives? Is this one of his best breakup/love songs ever, why or why not? Is E3 still in your rotation and if so what songs? Are you excited to see what direction he goes in going forward? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding midwxst and 9lives. Finally, stay with us for the most informative song posts throughout the week.

Drake & Yeat Are Partying “As We Speak” On Our New Fire Emoji Playlist Update: Stream

February’s heating up as it wraps up, and our Fire Emoji playlist is here to round up the best new hip-hop that came out this week. Starting off with an extra addition to one of 2024’s best albums so far, Yeat and Drake teamed up once again for the 2093 cut, “As We Speak.” It’s a definite step-up from their previous track “IDGAF,” and pushes both of them in industrial new directions with a well-crafted and grand beat. Next up on this playlist is the return of Kodak Black with the single “Shampoo” following his arduous prison stint. It’s pretty much what you’d expect from a Yak cut, but hearing him re-energized in this way is quite gratifying.

Furthermore, we also want to shout out French Montana’s new album Mac & Cheese 5, whose many versions elicited jokes and mocking messages from fans. Regardless, “Where They At” is a grimy collaboration with none other than Kanye West and Westside Gunn that will probably make it up to fans. Elsewhere on Fire Emoji, there’s also the brand-new cut from Central Cee, the low-key and romantic “I Will.” On a similarly measured but much darker and pained note, Lil Durk shared his latest record, “Old Days.”

HNHH Fire Emoji Playlist: Stream

Also on Fire Emoji is a release from three artists that fans are begging for more from. The Free Nationals, Anderson .Paak, and A$AP Rocky teamed up for the unsurprisingly funky and charismatic “Gangsta,” and hopefully an album from any of these is soon to come. Even though Quavo isn’t in this situation, as he dropped an album last year, it was still great to hear him drop another loosie with this week’s “Himothy.” It’s a haunting trap beat with the Georgia trap icon’s signature flows, and they’re as engaging as they’ve ever been despite a rough mix.

Meanwhile, rounding out our update is the new cut from Ray Vaughn and Pusha T, the ambient but lyrically visceral “Problems.” Last but not least is Strick’s new gorgeous collaboration with Young Thug and James Blake, “KISSES MAKE SURE.” Let us know what your favorite Fire Emoji playlist addition was this week -– and what else we missed, too. Check it out above and, as always, come back to HNHH for the latest great music releases around the clock.

Ransom, Harry Fraud, & Boldy James Collide For Luxurious “Live From The Roxy”

Three of the more prolific talents in hip-hop are teaming up to deliver a glorious symphony of rhymes and glamorous production. Ransom, Harry Fraud, and Boldy James are here to bring you “Live from the Roxy.” All three are veterans and respected ones at that. If you are looking for hardcore and/or jazzy raps, then this trio is for you.

Ransom is following up a strong 2023 after plenty of features, several singles, and his lone LP from July, Directors Cut 4. For Harry Fraud, he was also all over the place last year. He had production credits on four LPs for RXKNephew, Jay Worthy and Kamaiyah, Valee, and Curren$y. Finally, for Boldy James, he is back after a more recent release. In January, the blue-collar Michigan MC dropped his team effort with another talented instrumentalist, Nicholas Craven, for Penalty of Leadership.

Listen To “Live From The Roxy” By Ransom, Harry Fraud, & Boldy James

Ransom’s “Live from the Roxy,” is a drumless and bassless cut that is all about slick rhymes. It has this grand opus feeling to it with the soulful vocal bits in the background that give it a classical vibe. Which makes considering the title being named after a famous longstanding nightclub called Roxy Theater in Hollywood. It has been open since the early 1970’s and it feels like that is when this Fraud instrumental was made. Check out the Ransom-led track above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Live from the Roxy,” by Ransom, Harry Fraud, and Boldy James? Who had the best performance on the track and why? Is Harry one of the greatest producers to ever do it? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. DDG Is “Going To The Top” On His Latest Single

DDG for some reason just does not hit the sweet spot for us when it comes to crafting memorable tracks. The multi-hyphenate from Michigan does not have to be a wordsmith by any means. Creating easy-going tracks that are catchy is not a bad thing to make a career off of. However, DDG just does not have that special sauce even on his latest single “Going To The Top.”

This follows up his “She Don’t Play” offering from late December. It was more a of club/party track about a woman who could get whatever she wanted. There are a lot of artists who make similar music to DDG. But, what helps them stand out is the way they deliver their lyrics and the production choices they make.

Listen To “Going To The Top” By DDG

For the past YouTuber, it seems that he selects basic flows and instrumentals that you will hear all over the current hip-hop landscape. “Going To The Top” is about grinding and flexing how far you have come and how no one is better. It is a common rap topic and has given us plenty of memorable tracks. Yet again though, DDG does nothing to show us why it should be worth going back to this. Still, if you want to support, click the link to check out the song above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Going To The Top,” by DDG? Is this better than “She Don’t Play,” why or why not? Do you think he should drop a new album this year?
