KAYTRANADA Releases Of Pair Of Lowkey Jams With New EP “Lover/Friend”

Haitian-born producer KAYTRANADA has firmly established himself at this point in his career. Ever since bursting onto the scene back in 2016 with his debut album, 99.9%, his trajectory has only gone up from there. What helped immediately stand out to listeners was how willing he was to produce for different genres. Over time, KAYTRANADA has gotten better with each release. He has become an expert in basically every sound he has dabbled in. From house, hip-hop, dance, funk, R&B, and electronic, he can do it all.

This year was the first time he came out with a collaboration project. For many, it went over pretty well. KAYTRANADA and the always-colorful Aminé routinely brought out the best in each other. KAYTRAMINÉ featured the infectious “4EVA” with Pharrell Williams. It was an immediate summer hit. Additionally, tracks like “Master P” with Big Sean, and “EYE” with Snoop Dogg were solid as well.

Big Scarr Drops Some Cold Tracks On His Posthumous Album “Frozone”

Memphis, Tennessee has brought us a lot of exciting voices in rap over the past few years. One of those rising talents includes Big Scarr. If you have not heard his material before, he has that signature deep and intimidating voice. It is very similar to Key Glock and Young Dolph.

Unfortunately, his legacy in the hip-hop genre was short lived. The then 22-year old rapper tragically passed away from a drug overdose. TMZ Hip Hop reported this, as well as a lot of other publications on December 23 of last year. It was obviously shocking news. As many estates have for other rappers, they are still getting some music out to help continue the spread of their artistry.

That is the case here for Scarr’s team. In fact, this is the second album from them this year. Gucci Mane’s 1017 Global Music label, which Scarr was a part of was behind this. Guwop announced it on his Instagram yesterday. This latest LP is called Frozone and it might be one of the best put together posthumous releases in recent memory. Clearly, Scarr was at a high level during these recordings. There is tons quality spitting and beat selection. One of the tracks to check out is “Still The Same.” The use of the constant piano keys bring a fast tempo style, which Scarr absolutely shreds. Although they may not be on the best of terms these days, they certainly had hits together. One such track is the mega-hit “What’s My Name.” This is one of those songs that you surely heard a lot on the radio or in the mall. It was an inescapable pop track that proved yet again that Riri is a superstar. As for Drake, it was a huge look earlier on in his career.

Of course, seeing as though this was such a massive track, there was, indeed, a music video for it. Both artists were very keen to do one, and it obviously did numbers. It is a video that got a lot of play back when MTV did still play music as opposed to “Ridiculousness” re-runs. That said, Riri and Drake have hit a brand-new milestone for the video. According to Billboard, the music video has now reached a whopping view count of over 1 billion.

There are only a few songs ever that have gotten to the one billion mark. On YouTube, momentum is key so sometimes, older songs aren’t able to reach the mark. However, Rihanna and Drake were able to turn that tide, which is cool to see. They join an elite club, and it will be interesting to see what other music videos these artists can get to the one billion mark. Hopefully, Rihanna gives us some new music that would potentially make that cut.

Jay-Z is one of the greatest rappers to ever live. Overall, his resume is cemented and he will go down as the GOAT to a lot of people. That said, fans have been very excited about his next project. He has 13 albums to his name and fans have wanted that 14th project for a while. Unfortunately, the album has yet to drop, and Jay has yet to even announce it. However, his latest auction for the “Book Of HOV” exhibit is now leading to some speculation that the album is on the horizon.

According to People, there is a case for each album in the exhibit. That said, there is a 14th case which is empty. One could deduce in their head that this is some sort of teaser that a 14th album is, in fact, on the horizon. Of course, that has not been confirmed and is simply wishful thinking. While speaking with Gayle King earlier this year, Hov noted that there are a few conditions that must be met in order for him to release music.

Jay-Z On The Way?

“I already [used the word ‘retirement’], I can’t do that ever again,” Jay explained. “I’ll say I wanna make music, but it has to be something important. I don’t wanna just make a bunch of tunes. That’s not gonna serve me. It won’t feed me, first of all. I have to be saying something important. It has to mean something, you know? It has to mean something to a larger society.”

Jerusalem. “He is looking to capitalize on the rise of Jesus Christ by claiming to be a new Messiah sent by God in an attempt to free himself of debt and start a life of glory for himself.” This comes from HipHopDX as well as the movie’s synopsis. Jay-Z also has a hand in the movie as a co-producer.

ASAP Rocky Claims He “Controls Culture” In A New Interview

Earlier today, HighSnobiety published a new cover story on ASAP Rocky and some of the revelations he makes are already turning heads online. In the interview, he discusses all the ways his life has changed since becoming a parent. He also talked about a variety of creative projects and undertakings he’s had recently. Though fans expecting information on a new album won’t find much satisfaction, that doesn’t mean Rocky isn’t sharing anything interesting.

In one particular passage, he takes a less-than-modest approach to discussing his influence on music and pop culture. “I think while I’m still here, I got a duty to aspire to inspire. There’s really only a few people who control the culture, and when I tell you that I’m at the forefront, believe dat!” Rocky says in a quote from the interview. “Still to this day, to have that type of following, influence, control, and that power is magical and rare,” he elaborated when asked about his career longevity. ASAP Rocky has been teasing a new album called Don’t Be Dumb for a long time. When it does eventually release, it’ll be his first new album since 2018’s Testing. But in the meantime, he appears to be working on other new music entirely. In a recent tweet, Westside Gunn revealed that he had been in the studio with Rocky and Damon Albarn, apparently working on something for Albarn’s Gorillaz project.

Earlier this year, ASAP Rocky and Rihanna had their second child together. It was just a few months ago that the child’s name was publicly revealed to be Riot. Many fans liked the name a lot, especially when it’s paired with the middle name Rose. But others thought it was corny for Rocky to release a new song with the same title right around when the baby’s name was revealed.
