Donald Glover shared some exciting news yesterday. More specifically, he started by sharing exciting news about exciting news: He announced a GILGA Radio Instagram livestream, on which he promised to share some new music. Now that the broadcast has come and gone, we know some more about what the end of Childish Gambino will look like.

During the show, Glover revealed that there are two more Gambino projects on the way, saying, “We’re releasing Atavista, but after that, there’s the final Childish Gambino album — a soundtrack for the fans.” Elsewhere in the broadcast was a teaser for the “original soundtrack” to Bando Stone & The New World, which will serve as that final Gambino album.

Glover teased Atavista a month ago, and it is set to be a re-worked version of his 2020 album 3/15/20. As was indicated, the Bando Stone project is set to accompany a new movie. Elsewhere during the project, Glover also noted that he’s working on an anime project alongside Zach Fox.

Last year, Glover told E! News, “I’m making music right now, I love it. I’m actually working, I’m in the studio. I’ve been bringing people in, like secret people, working on little things. But I just been, you know, making it for fun right now. But soon something will happen, I promise. Something will happen.”

Drake Gets Support From Uma Thurman Amid Beef With Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross, Future, & More

Drake is currently taking on the entire rap world. Overall, it started with the song “Like That” where Kendrick Lamar proclaimed the big three did not exist. There were some shots at Drizzy, and the megastar took exception to that. In a leaked track called “Push Ups,” the Canadian came through with some especially scathing bars. However, it was not the knockout blow that some fans felt he needed to come through with. As it stands, the only person to reply has been Rick Ross, who came through with a diss track called “Champagne Moments.”

In the midst of these feuds, Drake took to his social media page, where he likened himself to Uma Thurman’s iconic character from Kill Bill. Well, it seems like Thurman is keeping tabs on these things. In the Instagram post below, you can see that Thurman reached out to Drake on IG, with a picture of her old outfit from the movie. “Need this?” she wrote. Clearly, it seems like Thurman has Drake’s back in all of this. How she heard about all of this, remains a mystery. Although it is still a cross over that fans will enjoy.

Doja Cat’s Coachella Set Showed What A Headliner Is Supposed To Be

doja cat coachella 2024
Philip Cosores

Thank you for proving me right, Doja Cat. I said you deserved to be headlining Coachella two years ago. This year, you brought a full-size Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton to your headlining set. Bless you, you demented genius. You are the best.

The final day of Coachella 2024 was a bit thinner on must-see artists; while there was still plenty to do and see, there was also enough time to wander and explore between the priority sets. So, rather than rushing around from tent to tent and stage to stage, there was time to poke around, try new things, and make a few observations. For instance:

ATARASHII GAKKO!
Philip Cosores

Call me biased, but there is no better backing band in music than a churchy-ass Black band. They have the power to uplift pop singers like Reneé Rapp, who we caught in the late afternoon, and to elevate R&B stars like Victoria Monét to transcendent performances. Monét – who also incorporated soul and R&B staples like The Supremes’ “Stop! In The Name Of Love” and Usher’s “There Goes My Baby” and rap breakouts like Sexyy Red’s “Get It Sexyy” into her early evening set – proved every bit to be a star worthy of even better placement upon her inevitable return to Coachella. And speaking of “Get It Sexyy,” while the St. Louis rapper wasn’t on the bill, her presence was felt at practically every DJ set and activation… Sexyy Red is out. Of. Here.

Renee Rapp
Philip Cosores

One place her impact was felt was GV Black’s Party In My Living Room activation. An initiative from Coachella promoters Goldenvoice, GV Black aims to promote equity and inclusion at the festival, living up to all those promises brands made back in 2020. It partnered with Inglewood rapper Thurz and his long-running party promotion to present DJ sets from both unexpected names like “Billie Eilish” rapper Armani Black and local LA mainstay DJ R-Tistic. One of the upsides of Sunday being a bit more laid back was getting to pull up on friends here and spend an hour two-stepping to club faves in a fun atmosphere out of the sun and wind.

It also gave the Uproxx team more time to wander and try new food options. While the team typically has faves that we frequent year after year, there, there are still so many other options that it’s worth trying out something new. This year, it was Big Belly Burger, which offered an Impossible version of its signature smash burger. And hallelujah, we may have found a new favorite. With a unique, light sweetness to its spread, Big Belly may even have overthrown some of our usuals.

J Balvin
Philip Cosores

After a calm and cool set from psychedelic funk rockers Khruangbin, Colombian Latin artist J Balvin put on a stellar show at the main stage, complete with an early appearance by Tainy, a surprisingly on-theme surprise pop-in by Will Smith, and an alien invasion storyline straight out of a 1950s B-movie. (Between Balvin, Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘70s thriller set up on Friday, and Tyler The Creator’s own flying saucer on Saturday, they’ve got one hell of a weekend matinee triple feature.)

Lil Yachty
Philip Cosores

Manwhile, Lil Yachty completely revamped his set from Camp Flog Gnaw in November, tapping into his career beginnings with a big reference to his nickname, Lil Boat, starting the show from the prow of a ship onstage. However, despite what might have been a throwback to his early days, his setlist stuck to the more recent, rock-focused Let’s Start Here and even tapped an indie reference point: multi-instrumentalist Mac DeMarco, who performed two songs, “On The Level” and “Chamber Of Reflection.” Still, Yachty was sure to hit maintstays like “Minnesota” and “Broccoli,” making his set one of the most sastisfying yet.

Now, remember what I said about bands? Doja Cat’s stunning headlining set not only incorporated that signature vamping but took things a step further with a five-part harmony from a South African vocal group, The Joy, paying homage to her roots. Once again, a set was enhanced by understated innovations like a spider cam swooping over the audience and a high-concept, post-apocalyptic sci-fi setup.

Doja Cat
Philip Cosores

While Doja’s set did not incorporate a storyline per se, it did a great job of actualizing the things that have been on her mind lately. The eye-popping visuals addressed the public’s preoccupation with her hair, her tattoos, and her heritage; hence, backup dancers draped in Wookie-like wig costumes, South African vocal groups singing in Zulu, and yes, a massive T-Rex skeleton traipsing along her catwalk, aided by a team of puppeteers.

Doja Cat, like Lana Del Rey, Tyler The Creator, J Balvin, and a slew of other artists to rock the stage, showed the potential still remaining to be wrought from the platform provided by Coachella. What she – and they – demonstrated was that it doesn’t take flashy streaming numbers or worldwide name recognition, so much as the imagination to prove that they belong. There’s a whole generation of new stars waiting to be minted, and Coachella gives them the opportunity to make their case – which Doja Cat did with her signature wit and weirdness.

50 Cent weighed in on Drake texting his mother about Rick Ross’ diss track, “Champagne Memories,” on Instagram, on Sunday night. In the texts, Drake explains the feud and accuses Ross of being “angry” and “racist.” Ross has been referring to Drake as a “white boy” and accused him of getting a nose job. 50 is loving the drama.

“Mounjaro makes you hungry and racist, we don’t need this sh*t take it off the market!” 50 wrote while sharing the screenshot. “LOL. @bransoncognac @lecheminduroi.” Fans shared plenty of laughs in the comments section of the post. Others called on 50 to collaborate with Drake. “At this point we need Drake & 50 to team up for a track with Whoo Kid on the intro,” one user wrote. Drake finally responded to that diss with his leaked track, “Push Ups,” on Friday, which also features bars about Rick Ross. Ross fired back with a full song aimed at Drake almost immediately.

Grimes Speaks Out After Mortifying Coachella Set Riddled With Issues: “Plz Forgive Me!”

Grimes has shared a lengthy apology for her Coachella set from Saturday, which was riddled with technical difficulties. While things started off okay, she began explaining that things on her mixing desk weren’t working properly. In turn, she screamed into the mic several times and was visibly frustrated for the remainder of her time on stage while trying to troubleshoot the issue. Sunday morning, she spoke out about the incident in a lengthy tweet.

“I want to apologize for the technical issues with the show tonight,” she said. “I wanted to come back rly strong and usually I always handle every aspect of my show myself – to save time this was one of the first times I’ve outsourced essential things like rekordbox bpm’s and letting someone else organize the tracks on the sd card etc, I had a bad feeling beforehand not having run everything thru the cdjs myself and tho I flagged it I wasn’t insistent.” From there, she listed several lessons she learned from the incident.

Grimes added that things will be better for the next performance. “I will personally organize all the files next week,” she promised. “I will not let such a thing happen again. I’ve spent months on this show, making music and visuals, and admittedly am not in the best mood atm. But, yeh – next week will be flawless, everything will run thru my hands. Some good lessons learned. Bless y’all. The cdjs were showing me bpms like 370 so I couldn’t even mix manually by ear and the front monitors were off so it was literally sonic chaos on my end trying to guess how stuff was sounding for u guys. Plz forgive me! Love, always.”

Kesha Flips “Tik Tok” Lyric To “F*ck P Diddy” At Coachella

Kesha joined Reneé Rapp on stage at Coachella on Sunday to perform her 2010 hit song, “TiK ToK.” The chart-topping track famously features the lyric, “Wake up in the mornin’ feelin’ like P Diddy.” However, in light of the recent allegations against the Bad Boy mogul, Kesha used the opportunity to change it into a diss. She and Rapp both sang: “Wake up in the morning like, f*** P Diddy.” They threw up their middle fingers toward the sky as well.

It’s not the first time Kesha has changed the lyric, although it is the most vulgar. Back in November, following Cassie’s bombshell lawsuit against Diddy, she sang, “Wake up in the morning feeling just like me!” while performing on her Only Love Tour in Oakland. Cassie settled the lawsuit just a day later, but the drama has gotten exponentially worse for Diddy in the months since.

Kesha’s move comes after Homeland Security agents raided Diddy’s home in Los Angeles and Miami as part of a sex trafficking investigation. Diddy is also facing numerous other lawsuits which accuse him of various instances of misconduct and worse. He’s denied all of the claims against him and has yet to face any charges. His lawyer, Aaron Dyers, labeled the raids on his properties a “gross overuse of military-level force” in a statement at the time. “There is no excuse for the excessive show of force and hostility exhibited by authorities or the way his children and employees were treated,” he elaborated.

Styles P Weighs In On How Kendrick Lamar & Drake’s Feud Could Influence Hip-Hop

Styles P thinks Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s ongoing feud, which has now brought in the likes of Rick Ross, The Weeknd, and more, could inspire a return of competitiveness in hip-hop that the genre hasn’t seen in years. He shared his opinion on the situation in a lengthy post on Instagram, on Saturday. It arrived after Rick Ross fired back at Drake with “Champagne Moments.”

“Not that anyone asked me. But it’s pretty simple whoever can be the pettiest and most disrespectful and not worry about crossing boundaries while being witty and applying pressure will win,” Styles began. “Let the games begin im in the audience with the popcorn. Hoping this brings back competitive emceeing when it’s all said and done. I would bet a fingernail no one is gonna get hurt So this is verbal warfare which I like to see ..don’t judge me.”

It was started as a way to uplift the ppl and y’all decided to use it as a weapon against each other.” Another asked: “You think that’s why Cole apologized? DJ Akademiks Resorts To Drinking After Hearing Rick Ross’ Drake Diss

DJ Akademiks resorted to alcohol after hearing Rick Ross’ diss track, “Champagne Moments,” aimed at Drake. While reacting to the song live, he had to step out of the room for an extended stretch before returning with a bottle of Hennessy.

Already appearing in shock, things took a turn for the worse for Akademiks when Ross rapped: “You ain’t never wanna be a n***a anyway, n***a, that’s why you got operation to make ya’ nose smaller than ya’ father nose, n***a. I unfollowed you, n***a, ’cause you sent a motherf*ckin’ cease and desist to French Montana, n***a. You sent the police, n***a, hated on the dog project.” Akademiks paused the track and walked out. When he returned, he remarked: “I gotta stress drink.” He added: “They’re attacking my goat. Ross responded in an hour. I can’t believe it, I can’t f*cking believe it. I thought they wasn’t even really beefing.”

Elsewhere in the track, Ross referred to Drake as a “white boy,” which the Toronto rapper took particular issue with afterward. Drake shared a screenshot of a text he sent to his mother explaining the feud and labeled Ross “angry” and “racist.” He wrote: “It’s coming from the guy I did songs with. He’s gone loopy off the Mounjaro. He hasn’t eaten in days, and it’s turned him angry and racist.” Check out Akademiks’ response to the diss below.

Fans Are Convinced That Tyler The Creator’s Coachella 2024 Entrance Was Him Subtly Siding With Metro Boomin Amidst Drake Beef

Is there anybody left in Drake’s corner? Ever since Metro Boomin, Future, and Kendrick Lamar dropped “Like That,” it seems like all of his once tight-knit rap relationships have dwindled.

While it is adorable to know that his mother and father firmly stand behind Drake, others such as NAV, Rick Ross, The Weeknd, Asap Rocky, and Ja Morant have all taken shots at him. Hell, following J. Cole’s apology to Lamar, supporters feel that he has even turned his back on Drake.

Following his set at Coachella 2024, fans believe Tyler The Creator has also picked a side. Yesterday (April 13), Tyler opened with an explosive stunt during his set. Viewers at home took to X (formerly Twitter) to rave about the stunt. After the clip went viral, others speculated that Tyler pulled inspiration from Metro Boomin’s 2018 album, Not All Heroes Wear Capes, cover.

Hip-hop editor Aaron Williams stressed the grandiose production in his review. “He shocked fans right at the outset with a high-flying stunt that saw him enter the stage like a human rocket blasting through the side of a camper van,” he wrote. “The move immediately set a tone that he somehow maintained through a procession of guests and a three-act set structure that demonstrated the thought and care he puts into all of his works.”

With Tyler The Recreator trending across the platform, others pointed out that he might have shaded Drake later in the set.

While performing alongside special guests Asap Rocky and Childish Gambino, users online claimed to have heard him say: “You know what’s sick? I used to hate that n****. I don’t know why; I gotta go to therapy to figure it out.”

However, it is unclear who Tyler was referring to. For now, Drake and Tyler’s friendship seems steady.

Rick Ross’ Exes Side With Drake In Ongoing Feud

Rick Ross’ exes, Tia Kemp and Cristina Mackey, both came out in support of Drake amid his and Ross’ feud. Kemp, with whom Ross shares a child, offered to leak private details about Ross to the Toronto rapper, while Mackey was more subtle in the way she took sides.

“Call me. I got something to tell you,” Kemp said in a video on social media directed at Drake. In another clip, she reiterated, “I got something to tell you. Get over here.” She went on to explain that she doesn’t understand why so many artists are hating on Drake at the moment. When Hollywood Unlocked shared the post, many fans took Ross’ side. “I don’t like my children’s father but I can bet you, I’ll never go against him for a opp,” one said. Another wrote: “I feel sorry for Ross. Gotta be careful, fellas. You can’t just plant a seed in any garden…” For her part, Mackey shared a video of herself listening to Drake’s track, “Energy.”

Drake took shots at Ross on his recently leaked diss track tentatively titled, “Push Ups,” which prompted a near-immediate response from Ross. Later on social media, Drake labeled Ross “racist” for calling him white in the song.
