James Blake Teases Lil Yachty’s Vulnerable Side On New Collab Album

James Blake and Lil Yachty are about as different as two artists can be on the surface. One broke through making glitchy, sad boy electronica, while the other burst onto the scene making happy and colorful pop-rap. The notion that they would collaborate on a single song, much less an entire album, would have been baffling a decade ago. Yet, that’s exactly what Blake and Yachty are gearing up for. These eclectic artists are going to be dropping the album Bad Cameo, and have been hyping it up in interviews.

Blake talked about the sound and overall aesthetic of the album during a recent Complex feature. The artist is going for a vulnerable feel, which tracks for anyone who’s heard a second of a James Blake song, but he noted how shockingly different it will be for Lil Yachty. “We got a really vulnerable side of Yachty in some of those sessions,” he explained. Blake told the outlet that he’d been a fan of Lil Boat for years, but he didn’t feel as though their styles were complimentary until the rapper dropped his latest album, Let’s Start Here. In Blake’s estimation, that was a pivotal turning point.

James Blake Praised Lil Yachty’s Experimentation

James Blake claimed he was completely blindsided by the album. “When I heard his last record, I was like, this is really a turn,” he recalled. “Not many artists are brave enough to do something that’s kind of opposite of the last thing they did.” The rest of the Complex piece took the form of a conversation with Blake and Yachty. Once more, however, the electronic artist pointed out Yachty’s propensity for happy music. Lil Yachty cited Paul McCartney and Wings’ “Let ‘Em In” as one of the first songs he remembers singing as a child, and Blake was quick to draw parallels to Yachty’s own music.

“This, to be honest, explains a lot just from your musical sensibilities,” Blake told the rapper. “[It’s] happy music. I noticed that that runs through your music.” He then explained the ways in which his and Yachty’s styles blended on Bad Cameo. “I mean, on this record you were talking about so many different things. There’s pain, there’s happiness, there’s everything in between. But that vibe is so sunny and it’s kind of what your disposition is in your music.” Sounds like a fascinating blend.

Chuck D Calls Out Rappers Over 40 For Spreading Negativity

Chuck D is one of the most outspoken artists in history. His rhymes on Public Enemy albums remain the gold standard for empowerment rap, and he’s maintained this quality as a solo artist. The only thing the rapper hates more than injustice, however, is other rappers who spread negativity throughout the music industry. Especially, it seems, if the rappers are old enough to know better. Chuck D made it very clear where he stands on the matter of immature veterans during a recent Twitter thread.

The rapper did not mince words when it came to what annoyed him. “If you over 40, and spitting meaningless dark energy in rap,” he wrote. “[Then] you have to really think about what matters in the hip-hop foundation that birthed your chance at it.” Chuck D didn’t stop there. He proceeded to reason that rappers over the age of 40 should know better, and lead a good example for the generations that are following their lead. “I didn’t say cease and desist,” he explained. “I said think ……. A over 40 mind should have a better ability to KNOW self and surroundings better. The ‘green’ days is greying…”

Chuck D Wants To See Rappers Embrace Maturity

This is not the first time Chuck D has expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the genre. In April, the Public Enemy icon derided the notion of rap beef as a damaging practice that should no longer be championed. “Rap and Hip-Hop didn’t form from battle culture,” he tweeted. “It formed from party dance culture. The battle culture was a mutation alongside moving the crowd. The battle diss [sic] thing was a side evolution tumor. Started benign then ignorance made it malignant in the 90s.”

To Chuck D’s credit, he practices what he preaches. When everybody was picking sides in the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle, the rapper was putting forth the notion they should squash it. He went as far as to suggest the two superstars should team up with J. Cole and go on tour together. “These fantastic three rappers (I’m biased for KL) have songs that never will get this public attention,” he reasoned. “Hence this low hanging kid sh*t turns casuals heads… Get them all on a TOUR so we can pick seats.”

Latto And GloRilla Got Into Some Friendly Dance Competition Backstage At The ‘Hot Girl Summer Tour’

Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla‘s Hot Girl Summer Tour continues to be one of the year’s most exciting events. This past weekend, at the Atlanta stop of the tour, they were joined by fellow Hot Girl rapper Latto on stage. But the fun didn’t stop after the show.

In a clip that has since gone viral, Latto and Glo are seen backstage having fun, and dancing to music. The two then swiftly move into a dance-off, as Meg and Glo’s collab “Wanna Be” plays in the background. Latto and Glo then see who can out-twerk the other.

While their competition appears to be friendly, Glo is sure that she was the winner of the twerk off.

“latto didn’t win dat dance battle let’s be fr,” said Glo in a tweet.

Latto, however, wasn’t having it, and asked her followers “Who gone tell her????”

Meg didn’t want smoke with anyone, and simply offered a reasonable suggestion.

“I think yall need a rematch,” said Meg.

But Latto is confident that she’s the clear winner.

“Aww Meg protecting ur feelings that’s a real friend,” said Latto.

Latto doubled down, reuploading a clip with a scoreboard at the bottom of the screen, which seems to indicated that she’s the winner.

Lil Yachty Claims Drake Rarely Listens To Music Outside Of The Studio

Drake puts out lots of music. The rapper’s biggest detractors have concede that he’s a hard worker who has dropped nearly every year for a decade. Given his tireless recording, and his versatility within genres, one might assume that Drake is listening to music nonstop. The rapper’s buddy, Lil Yachty set the record straight, however, during a recent Complex interview. Lil Yachty claimed that Drake takes a very different approach to recording than he does, in that Drake rarely listens to music when he isn’t making it.

This revelation came about during a conversation between Yachty and James Blake. The two artists are working on a collab album together, and discussing the ways in which they create. Lil Yachty is probably the most famous Drake fan in the world (sorry Akademiks), so it makes sense that he would bring up the 6 God in the discussion. “When I started hanging with him a lot, he rarely listens to music,” Yachty noted. “Except for like, when he’s recording.” The rapper uses himself as a counterpoint, claiming that he wakes up and plays music throughout the majority of his day. “Driving, music,” he asserted. “Showering, music. Eating, music.”

Drake Prefers Talking When He’s Not Recording New Music

Drake, on the other hand, prefers conversation to music. “He’s more, like a, talking type of person,” Lil Yachty posited. “Music when it’s time to record. Sometimes he plays music in the car, but sometimes he’ll ride in silence.” The last point is especially interesting, given the proliferation of Drake’s music as “driving music.” It’s how the “Drake and drive” meme from the 2010s originated. Lil Yachty went on to say that the 6 God’s unique approach made him realize that each artist has a different process. “Before we got as close, I thought all musicians were like me,” he admitted. “And music was just like, everyday, everything.”

James Blake, who mostly listens in the clip, shares Drake’s musical methodology. He told Yachty that he doesn’t listen to music all day, and prefers to save his musical attention for the recording studio. Fittingly, James Blake and Drake have worked exceptionally well together over the years. Blake sang the outro on the beloved 2014 Drake loosie “0 to 100 / The Catch Up,” and Blake remixed Drizzy’s “Come Thru” back in 2013. The latter was released on the official OVO Soundcloud.

Camila Cabello Seemingly Teases Lyrics For Drake Interlude “UUUGLY”

Camila Cabello and Drake are really building up the hype. The two pop stars are linking up for Cabello’s upcoming album, and Drake will actually be featured on multiple songs. The first is called “Hot Uptown,” and the second is a Drake interlude titled “UUUGLY.” Not much has been revealed about the songs, but Cabello recently penned a letter to a fan, and it contained lyrics for the “UUUGLY” interlude in the text.

“Don’t make me pull out these credit card statements and show you the proof,” the letter read. “It’ll get UUUGLY.” The singer signed her name at the bottom, while clarifying that she was not insulting the fan she was giving it to. “PS, it’s only lyrics,” she explained. “We’re not beefin.” The lyrics are from the “UUUGLY” interlude. In other words, they will be uttered by the 6 God himself. Cabello told Billboard that she liked the idea of breaking conventions and giving a song to a featured artist on her own album. “Why does he have his own song,” she asked rhetorically. “Because selfishly, I just want to hear Drake on my own album.”

Drake’s Lyrics On “UUUGLY” Suggest Unfinished Business

Cabello’s reasoning was simple. She wanted to rebel against the parameters she’d set for herself on her previous albums. “I love that for me — it’s like that rebellious mood,” she explained. “Who says I can’t do that? It’s Drake talking his sh*t.” The singer confirmed that she will contribute background vocals to the interlude. It’s worth noting that the lyrics Cabello wrote down are combative in nature. The singer felt the need to clarify she wasn’t “beefin” with her fan because the lyrics imply their target is a phony. One can’t help but apply the context of Drake’s recent battle with Kendrick Lamar.

Drizzy claimed that he fed Kendrick Lamar false information about a daughter, which the latter went and used on “Meet the Grahams.” Drake never provided evidence of this set up, but it’s possible the lyrics in the “UUUGLY” interlude could be referring back to this incident. The rapper has eschewed conflict since he claimed he was embracing “summer vibes,” but it hasn’t resulted in successful music. The Sexyy Red duet “U My Everything” fell flat. Then there was the “Wah Gwan Delilah” debacle, in which Drake thought it was a good idea to cover Plain White T’s. Hopefully these Cabello collabs get him out of his funk.

Sexyy Red Seemingly Distanced Herself From Trump Following Her Controversial Roots Picnic Performance

Sexyy Red has the summer on lock with her hit single, “Get It Sexyy.” As the song has gone viral, Sexyy has become a household name, and as her star rises, she has one mission — to Make America Sexyy Again.

While everyone can get behind the idea of making America “Sexyy,” most fans aren’t exactly thrilled about the delivery. Sexyy’s slogan sounds very much similar to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.” Her performance at Roots Picnic 2024 last week sparked some more controversy, when she performed in front of a giant red hat, which read “Make America Sexyy Again.”

After some buzz online, Sexyy took to Twitter to offer clarification and distance herself from Trump.

“It’s Sexyy Red 4 President,” she said. “I’m my own candidate I’m not endorsing anybody period.”

While fans appreciated the clarification, it’s not hard to understand why some may have been confused.

Last October, Sexyy vocalized her support for Trump on comedian Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast.

“I like Trump,” she said. “Yeah, they support him in the hood. At first I don’t think people was f*cking with him. They thought he was racist, saying little sh*t against women. But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people that free money. Aww baby, we love Trump. We need him back in office. We need him back because, baby, them checks. Them stimulus checks. Trump, we miss you.”

Thanfully, it appears Sexyy has changed her mind.

Proof’s Son NASAAN Hints At Upcoming Eminem Collaboration

NASAAN had the unique experience of knowing Eminem as a child. The rapper’s father, Proof, was a member of D12 and one of Em’s best friends before his untimely passing. NASAAN has carried the torch for his father as an artist, but one thing he’s yet to do is link up with his father’s old friend. At least, until now. NASAAN recently sat down for an interview with Off the Porch, and revealed that he has multiple tracks ready to go with Eminem.

NASAAN was excited about the opportunity to work with a legend, but he didn’t want to jinx it. Em is known for being selective with his features, especially since the rollout for his new album, The Death of Slim Shady, has been so secretive. “We got some sh*t, we got some stuff,” NASAAN confirmed. “He sent me some stuff. I don’t want to speak on it too much — I be getting in trouble when I talk about they stuff. I ain’t gonna speak on it.” NASAAN may not have an official Eminem collab out yet, but the latter has had an enormous influence on his career. He even recreated an iconic moment between Eminem and Proof for his recent music video “Goated.”

NASAAN Didn’t Like Eminem’s Music As A Kid

The rapper told Off the Porch that he actually wasn’t a fan of Em or D12 when he was a kid. It was once he got older that he developed an appreciation for what the group (and his dad) accomplished. “I feel like I’ve known the n**ga forever,” he admitted. “I think I started growing an appreciation for him as I got older ’cause it’s like, I never was a super fan of their music.” The main reason why was setting. NASAAN moved to Atlanta after Proof’s death, so it took him a while to get reacclimated to the grittier Detroit sound.

D12 was worlds away from what was happening in the ATL circa 2005. “Like I said, I grew up in Atlanta,” the rapper noted. “So I think when I started building taste, my palate was a little bit different. So when I got like 14, 15, I kind of got into they stuff. And I was like, ‘Oooh, this n**ga really rap.’” NASAAN also told Detroit Metro Times that he tried to escape his father’s legacy, before ultimately coming around to it and embracing it. “My father’s legacy was something I ran from and shied from for so long,” he admitted. “I didn’t want people to think I got sh*t handed to me or wanna be my friend for different reasons.” Things have come full circle thanks to Slim Shady.

Trina Clarifies Where Things Stand Between Her And Nicki Minaj

It’s been the biggest year in recent memory for fans of rap beef. In the past two months Kendrick Lamar, Drake, BIA, Cardi B, J. Cole, Future, Rick Ross, Metro Boomin, Quavo, and Chris Brown have all been involved in various rap beefs. But the two who led the way were Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj. They traded jabs earlier this year with a line from Megan’s “HISS” mentioning Nicki’s husband. Minaj clapped back with an entire diss track called “Big Foot” but it was nearly universally rejected by rap fans outside of her Barbz.

Fans thought that there may be some bad blood between Minaj and Trina that could have sparked yet another beef for her. But during a recent interview she clarified that things between her and Nicki were cool. Mostly she focused on her comments about Beyonce being the queen of rap. She clarified that it had nothing to do with Nicki specifically, just that she believes it’s Beyonce over everybody. While some fans in the comments are happy there’s no beef between the pair, others aren’t convinced of Trina’s claims. Check out the interview where she gives her newest comments below.

Nicki Minaj is currently on her massive Pink Friday 2 tour. She’s currently in Europe, where she ran into some trouble. During a stop in Amsterdam she was arrested and hit with drug charges. Videos of the arrest went viral online as fans criticized the police’s treatment of Nicki. She recently announced a second North American leg of the tour for later this year once the European leg wraps up. Tickets for those shows were released last month with fans who missed the first time around scrambling to see Nicki this year.

What do you think of Trina clarifying that her comments about Beyonce being the queen of rap having nothing to do with Nicki Minaj? Do you believe that there’s actually no hard feelings between the pair? Let us know in the comment section below.
