Drake’s Reference Track For Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single” Surfaces Online

Reference tracks have always existed in hip-hop. Few artists, however, have been associated with the concept of a reference track than Drake. He has become the poster child for this practice, much in the same way that he has for ghostwriting. It’s been a topic of debate since 2015, and it resurfaced after the Kendrick Lamar battle subsided. Reference tracks for “Ratchet Happy Birthday” and “Mob Ties” leaked online, furthering the narrative that Drake doesn’t write his own material. Another reference track has surfaced, but this time, Lil Wayne is on the receiving end.

The reference track leaked on June 6, and sees Drake lay down the basis for what would become the Lil Wayne song “I’m Single.” The reference track dates back to early 2009, when Drizzy signed to Wayne’s Young Money label. The most fascinating aspect of the the reference is not that Drake wrote it, but how much he was able to emulate Wayne’s signature flow. The Toronto upstart made it very easy for Weezy to hop on the song and make it a standout on his album I Am Not a Human Being. Drake was originally slated to be on “I’m Single” with Wayne, but it wound up being a solo effort.

Drake Was A Credited Songwriter On “I’m Single”

Between Drake’s writing credit on the final version, and the production from Noah “40” Shebib, it’s no surprise to learn that “I’m Single” started out as an OVO joint. This is not the first time that the topic of Drake writing for Lil Wayne has surfaced. Karrine Steffans told VladTV that Drake penned lots of songs for Wayne during a 2015 interview. “[Lil] Wayne told me that Drake had written some things for him,” she claimed. “I was in the studio with Wayne listening to something that Drake had written, cause [he] can’t write like that. He’ll be honest about it. He only writes a certain way.”

Steffans asserted that Lil Wayne had no problem using Drake’s song ideas. “He was very honest,” she recalled. “So Drake was just kinda showing him how to take his ideas and turn them into a story and to make that story come back around. That’s a skill. That’s a storytelling skill. Not everybody can do that.” Drizzy seemingly borrowed Wayne’s tactics as he got bigger, if the PND and Vory reference tracks are anything to go by. The “I’m Single” reference track provides a unique glimpse at the working relationship between two legends, though. One that has come back to haunt one, and leave the other unscathed.

Jaguar Wright Arrested In Dallas For Alleged Theft Of Property

In recent months, Jaguar Wright has been making headlines for making shocking claims about several of her celebrity peers. She’s taken aim at the likes of Diddy, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Justin Bieber, and more. She even recently alleged that she once saw a sex tape of Nicki Minaj of Megan Thee Stallion. Obviously, this is unconfirmed, but got social media users listening nonetheless.

Unfortunately, however, it was recently reported that the songstress is now behind bars. According to a post by The Neighborhood Talk on Instagram, she was booked in Dallas earlier today. Of course, social media users also have plenty of theories. Twitter/X is currently flooded with demands for authorities to free her and with outlandish rumors about who could possibly be behind this. Again, these aren’t confirmed, but will likely continue until fans get their hands on more info.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Wright’s found herself at odds with the law. In January of last year, she was arrested for an alleged domestic dispute with her husband. Will Smith Admits He Hated Quincy Jones’ Original “Fresh Prince” Theme

Quincy Jones saw something in Will Smith. The legendary producer knew talent when he saw it, and he knew Smith had what it took to be a crossover sensation. He was right. He cast Smith as the star of the classic sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and the rest is history. The show ran for six seasons, and the actor went on to become one of the biggest stars in the world. Smith has always spoke highly of Quincy Jones and the influence he had, but he recently admitted that he disagreed with the producer on one major detail. Smith hated the original theme song to his own show.

The revelation came about during Smith’s appearance on Hot 97. The actor was promoting his new film, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, and he reflected on his star-making TV role. He claimed he was in awe of Quincy Jones, especially given his pedigree. “He was mentoring me,” Smith stated. “Quincy had done a theme song for Fresh Prince. And you know, Quincy did Sanford and Son; Quincy did a 1,000 things that you don’t even know.” Everything was great, until Smith listened to the theme song Jones had in mind. “So Quincy plays a theme song for The Fresh Prince,” he noted. “It was that old school… So I listened and I was like, ‘Ohhh… wow…. yeah.’” The future superstar was worried.

Will Smith Made An Alternate Theme That Quincy Loved

Smith’s solution was to turn to his musical partner, DJ Jazzy Jeff. “Jeff was at the hotel and I was like, ‘Jeff, Quincy played a theme song. Dude, it’s no good at all,’” he told Hot 97. “Jeff was like, ‘Just tell him, man, he’ll understand.’ I was like, ‘There ain’t no way I’m telling Quincy Jones […] I can’t do it, man. Quincy knows better than I know.’” Smith’s fear was understandable, given that Jones was helping him get his foot in the door. DJ Jazzy Jeff then solved the problem by making a new beat for Smith to rap over. The duo made the song in one evening, and decided to show it to Jones as an alternative.

It was a stressful first listen. “So I played it for Quincy and he sat there and listened and I’m shaking and sweating,” Smith explained. “And he said, ‘Well, that’s better than that bullshit I did.’ … We did a whole record [with] a second verse, so Quincy made the edit and that became the theme song.” Smith’s gut proved correct, as The Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song went on to become one of the most iconic themes of all time. It was even included on the DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince greatest hits album.

Jermaine Dupri Calls Drake “Ignorant” For Replicating 2Pac & Snoop Dogg’s Voices On AI Diss Track

Before Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s viral lyrical battle reached its peak last month, Drizzy decided to get creative with his diss track “Taylor Made Freestyle.” He used artificial intelligence to replicate the voices of 2Pac and Snoop Dogg, sparking a great deal of controversy in the process. Many listeners found it to be disrespectful, and 2Pac’s estate even threatened to sue him. Eventually, he pulled the track from streaming services to avoid any legal repercussions.

Jermaine Dupri has been a vocal critic of the use of AI in music for some time. Evidently, Drake is no exception. During a recent appearance at Atlanta’s United Masters’ SelectCon conference, he sat down with Steve Stoute to discuss the dangers of the rapidly developing technology. He used “Taylor Made Freestyle” as an example, describing how “dangerous” things could have gotten.

Jermaine Dupri Shares His Take On Artificial Intelligence In Music

“If you’re going to use AI, you’ve got to use it in a smart way,” Dupri began. “Because the people that are touching it at this point, they don’t understand some of the things that it can damage, right? If you look at the Drake song where he used Snoop and 2Pac’s voice. I don’t think people listen to that and understand how serious people take 2Pac… I think Snoop understood why he shouldn’t answer to it because it could have gotten really dangerous.”

In the past, Dupri also criticized 23-year-old LA artist Sy The Rapper for using AI to replicate Kendrick Lamar’s voice on a track aimed at Drake. At the time, he similarly called it “dangerous.” What do you think of Jermaine Dupri criticizing Drake for using AI to replicate 2Pac and Snoop Dogg’s voices? Do you agree with him or not? Ray J Subtly Disses Quavo When Talking About Chris Brown Feud

Ray J has no problem giving his opinion. The R&B singer and pop culture force went on the Club Shay Shay podcast and spoke bluntly about a myriad of topics. He detailed what he think should be done to Diddy after seeing the Cassie footage. He claimed that his sex tape with Kim Kardashian may have led to the popularization of OnlyFans. Then, in an unexpected turn of events, he bodied Migos rapper Quavo. Ray J was asked what he thought about the rap beefs that had taken place in 2024, and he rated every emcee involved EXCEPT Quavo.

Club Shay Shay host Shannon Sharpe asked whether Ray J was a fan of the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar situation, or the Quavo vs. Chris Brown feud. The singer couldn’t help himself. Instead of giving flowers to all four artists mentioned, he drew a line between Quavo and the rest. “That’s not beef,” Ray J said in response to the Quavo vs. Chris Brown situation. “Quavo and Chris Brown, Kendrick and Drake. You got Chris Brown. You got Drake, and you got Kendrick Lamar.” Realizing how his comment had come off, the singer tried to clean it up. “And no disrespect to Quavo,” he added. Ray J’s view on Quavo was painfully clear. No addendum needed.

Ray J Was Not Impressed With Quavo’s Battle Skills

Quavo’s reputation has taken a hit in recent months. The Migos rapper was a worth adversary for Chris Brown on paper. Especially since he was a rapper, and Breezy’s day job is R&B singer. Nevertheless, the beef was one-sided. Chris Brown’s “Weakest Link” diss was scathing, and Quavo failed to keep up when he dropped the response “Over H*es and B*tches.” The mediocre bars disappointed fans. There was also confusion as to why Quavo featured a posthumous verse from Takeoff, who had nothing to do with the beef.

Ray J did, however, praise the other three rappers Sharpe mentioned. He was particularly complimentive of Drake. Their relationship stemmed from the fact that Drake sampled Ray J’s R&B classic “One Wish” on his blockbuster 2016 album Views. He thought both Drizzy and Kendrick Lamar handled themselves well during their recent battle. “That’s what I think a Hip Hop beef should be,” he opined. Ray’s remarks dropped the same day Drake decided to delete all his Lamar disses off Instagram, ironically.

Ray J Claims Amber Rose Asked To Sleep With Him Every Night While Filming “College Hill”

Earlier this week, The Jason Lee Show’s newest episode dropped featuring an extended interview with Ray J. The pair had plenty to talk about as the interview itself spans nearly three hours. But they also proved that there’s still plenty of interest in the multi-medium public figure as the video racked up more than 160k views on YouTube in just the first day it was available. While many parts have stood out to fans, one particular comment about Amber Rose continues to pop back up.

“I could tell you Amber was seeing ghosts in the house,” Ray J says while discussing his time on the BET+ celebrity edition of College Hill. “She’s like, ‘Ray J, I need you to come up and sleep with me every night ’cause I see ghosts,’” he continues. He never got around to actually watching the show as he later admits, but he’s pretty sure they didn’t show the full extent of the time the pair spent together. “I don’t know how much they showed, but we slept together most of the show,” he concludes. Check out the full interview where he comments on a variety of other subjects below.

Ray J Talks Sharing A Bed With Amber Rose

During a recent appearance on Club Shay Shay, Ray J honed in on the importance off his now notorious sex tape with Kim Kardashian. He event went as far as to claim that the current landscape of NSFW content online headlined by OnlyFans wouldn’t exist in the same way without his original tape leading the way. That claim was also met by plenty of skepticism from fans online.

Don Toliver’s ‘Hardstone Psycho’ Is Coming To ‘Fortnite’ As A Special Game Mode

Fortnite‘s grip on popular culture is honestly pretty impressive. From stealing popular dances for in-game emotes to featuring some of the biggest stars in entertainment as character skins and even hosting virtual concerts from the likes of Billie Eilish and The Weeknd, the game has ingrained itself into music — especially hip-hop — as both a valuable tool for reaching a young audience and a favored pastime of the artists themselves — albeit, a sometimes frustrating one.

The next artist to team up with Epic Games is Don Toliver, who will be the focus of the special game Hardstone. Toliver teased the game/event with a trailer showing off some of the game’s environments, skins, and weapons, which will all revolve around the biker gang theme of his upcoming album, Hardstone Psycho. The collaboration is fitting, considering it was Toliver’s mentor Travis Scott who performed one of Fortnite‘s first-ever virtual concerts, breaking streaming records for the game in the process.

Since Travis’ proof-of-concept success, in-game performers have included Young Thug, Dominic Fike, J Balvin, Ariana Grande, Eminem, and more.

Hardstone will be a “8v8 turf war between two rival biker gangs (Hardstone & Wolves M.C.)… featuring music from Don Toliver’s new album, a fully custom map, immersive gameplay, & more.” You can play the game free on June 10th in Fortnite, by logging onto Fortnite and searching for “Hardstone” from the main menu.

Suge Knight Alleges That Diddy’s Been An FBI Informant “Forever”

Suge Knight has already made plenty of wild allegations on his prison podcast, Collect Call With Suge Knight, and his latest episode is certainly no exception. Unsurprisingly, the subject of Diddy came up at one point in the podcast. This prompted the former Death Row CEO to make even more shocking claims about the mogul. He accused Diddy of having been an FBI informant for years, even alleging that it’s a commonly known fact within the industry.

“It’s a lot of things that people been knowing, and everybody gets judged differently,” he explained. “It shouldn’t be a grey area when it comes to doing something right, doing something positive, or doing something for the community. That being said, naturally, Puffy been an FBI informant forever, as they would say. That’s why it’s different when it comes to him.”

Suge Knight Discusses Diddy On Collect Call Podcast

“Regardless of who gets hurt, all everybody been saying is ‘Puffy, Puffy, Puffy.’ I think they shouldn’t all blame everything on Puffy,” he continued. “His exes in the industry knew about it. Everybody in his crew knew about it. The b*tches he dates knew about it. Everybody knew about it. So don’t push away from it now.” Despite the various allegations Diddy’s been hit with in recent months, and the mogul allegedly being an FBI informant, Knight continues to support him.

In TMZ‘s documentary about the Bad Boy Records founder, The Downfall of Diddy, Knight explained how his reaction to the sexual assault allegations was different than most people’s. “My reaction was actually different because the first thing that came to my mind was: he has his sons, he has his daughters,” he said. “My reaction was first about the kids. The thing is, I feel it’s a bad day for Hip Hop. It’s a bad day for the culture because it makes us all look bad.” What do you think of Suge Knight accusing Diddy of having been an FBI informant for years? NBA Youngboy Allegedly Made $100 Million While On House Arrest, Wack 100 Claims

Back in April, fans were shocked to hear that NBA Youngboy had been arrested once again in Utah, where he’s been on house arrest for a while now. He was initially hit with 63 new charges, which was eventually whittled down to just 48. Among them were gun charges, which are particularly damning for Youngboy. He’s also reportedly caught up in a prescription drug scheme which spawned many of the other charges brought against him. There isn’t a whole ton known about his increasingly complicated legal situation at the moment, but that didn’t stop Wack 100 from speculating.

In his newest interview for Vlad TV, Wack discusses Youngboy’s newest charges. First they discuss whether or not he will get to go home any time soon. Vlad brings up a rumor that he was given a $100k bail for the charges in Utah. But Wack claims that isn’t likely to be the only obstacle to getting free. Wack explains that Youngboy is also dealing with federal charges out of Louisiana that will likely make any attempt to bring him home much more complicated. While discussing the benefits of being on house arrest verses being in a jail awaiting trial they start to talk money. Wack claims that due to his prolific recording and release schedule while on house arrest, Youngboy made between $50 and $100 million in a single year. Check out the full clip of their discussion below.
