Mustard Details The Moment He Heard Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” For The First Time

This year has been one of the wildest for hip-hop in quite some time. Most of that can be attributed the thrilling battle between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. Those first few days of May where they went tit for tat with diss records was an unforgettable moment. Of course, that brief stretch included “Not Like Us”, which is seen as Kendrick’s dagger and the West Coast’s as well. The record became an instant hit, partially because of Mustard’s incredible beat. The latter has been one of the top-flight producers for a while now, notching collaborations with so many superstars. However, this Kendrick Lamar collaboration did not come as easy as the others.

The critically acclaimed beat crafter sat down with Big Boy to talk about the song, as well as The Pop Out and much more. During their hour-long sit-down, Mustard explained that he was sending Lamar beat after beat during the back-and-forth with Drake. In fact, he says it was around five a day and probably hit almost 100 in total. Ultimately though, he was not sure what would happen. Then, he received a text while driving to a baby shower, saying that the Compton rapper dropped another diss track. Shortly after, Mustard said he got another message that read one of the best quotables from the song, “‘Mustard on the beat ho’”.

Mustard Couldn’t Believe That Kendrick Used His Beat For “Not Like Us”

He told Big Boy he was all sorts of confused, “I’m like ‘Wtf did I miss?’ And that’s how I heard the song on the 405 freeway, driving, and I start spazzing…listening to it over and over. I couldn’t believe it”, Mustard explained. Even though, he is a fantastic producer, the Los Angeles, California native can now say he is a part of a historical moment in the genre’s history. Mustard is doing a great job of capitalizing on this, as he is dropping his new album, Faith Of A Mustard Seed, on July 26.

What are your thoughts on how Mustard heard “Not Like Us” for the first time? Is this one of the best diss tracks of all time, why or why not? Where does this beat rank for Mustard’s discography? Will this become the most iconic diss record ever? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Keefe D Reveals His Cancer Has Returned Amid 2Pac’s Murder Trial

Duane “Keefe D” Davis, who is facing murder charges for the killing of 2Pac, says he’s suffering from cancer and the conditions in jail are exacerbating his health problems. Appearing in court for a hearing on Tuesday, he attempted to get out on bond with the help of Wack 100. In pleading his case, he argued that his cancer had returned.

“I got cancer,” he said candidly, “I been in jail eating processed food. I had colon cancer… they serve all this processed food, they don’t serve no fruit, it’s terrible. Fake potatoes, fake milk. Fake everything. It ain’t good for an ex-cancer patient. I got it again.”

Keefe further argued: “They took me to the hospital on May 5. He came into my cell and said, ‘Hurry up and get dressed, you need emergency surgery.’ They referred me to my cancer doctor so I went and seen him on May 8 and he said, ‘I’ll get you to do a colonoscopy in a week, CT scan in two weeks, CT scan in three weeks.’ They haven’t came here to do nothing. I’m in a life situation and I will do anything to save my life.”

Keefe D Details His Struggles With Cancer

While Keefe and Wack were able to come up with the $750,000, the judge denied his bond request over suspicions as to where the money came from. Additionally, the court wasn’t buying Wack’s reasoning for wanting Keefe out. Be on the lookout for further updates on Duane “Keefe D” Davis on HotNewHipHop.

Drake Took “A Huge L” When YG Joined Kendrick Lamar For “The Pop Out” Wack 100 Admits

With the dust pretty much settled on the word sparring between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, Wack 100 came clean on No Jumper. After originally anointing The Boy the winner at one point, the controversial artist manager admits that is no longer the case. According to HipHopDX, Wack 100 says that YG showing up to K-Dot’s The Pop Out was a “huge L”. The My Krazy Life MC was one of many special guests at the already iconic show. Tyler, The Creator, Dr. Dre, Roddy Ricch, and ScHoolboy Q, are just a few others to name. It truly was a uniting moment for the West Coast hip-hop scene and further proof for Wack 100 that Drake has lost.

In the short clip, he also feels that the Canadian megastar can never perform “Family Matters”, especially the YG verse. “The West Coast is behind Kendrick. A huge L for Drake. The worst part about that was YG”, Wack says. “[Drake] name-drops him. Drake can never perform that song (‘Family Matters’) and mention YG’s name”.

Wack 100 Says Drake Got Gut Punched By YG

The hip-hop figure continues, “But he did that to himself cause if YG didn’t approve of that you got K-Dot looking at YG. Kendrick Lamar the biggest thing in the West Coast, so why the f*** would YG wanna be in bad standings with that?”. As per usual, several fans online were confused at how this was a loss for Drake. “And Drake never said YG should side with him but that he is the guy that bang a set not Kendrick. The verse still has ground to me”, one X user writes. Drake might still feel like this is a “twenty-v-one”, but it seems pretty far-fetched that he was going to be able to win this duel.

What are your thoughts on Wack 100 saying that Drake took a massive loss when YG joined Kendrick Lamar at the Pop Out? Is this one of the more definitive beef defeats in hip-hop history? Why do you think Drake tried to get YG to side with him? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Azealia Banks Labels Ice Spice The “Antithesis” Of “Y2K” In Latest Criticism

Azealia Banks says “nothing” Ice Spice is doing to promote her new album is accurate to the Y2K aesthetic she’s trying to curate. She went on a scathing rant about the New York rapper’s album promo in a post on Instagram, on Tuesday, making Spice the latest of several artists Banks has slammed on social media in recent days.

“Somebody needs to tell @icespice Absolutely nothing about this aesthetically, performance wise, production wise is Y2K at all,” Banks began. “This is like VIM early Nicki Minaj pack weave sh*t. We need a new hair color and a new facial expression. Ice I love you clown but you should put the halt button, drop David lachapplle and re do this. Big butts and bbl bodies are the ANTIHESIS OF Y2K.” From there, she shared several images of artists she feels are more accurate to the era.

I remember when we thought the Motorola was gonna stop working because it couldn’t register 2000.” Another user writes: “As someone who was 13 in the year 2000… a lot of these girlies who were newborns honestly have no idea what Y2K is supposed to give… it’s true..” Others suggested Spice look to Lil Kim, Missy Elliott, Foxy Brown, and Eve for inspiration. Stunna Girl Alleges That Ray J Took Wendy Williams On A “Drug Binge”

Talking about Stunna Girl, Ray J and Wendy Williams all at the same time was probably not on anyone’s bingo card. However, here we are. Apparently, Stunna Girl has some serious dirt on the singer and multimedia mogul in regard to Wendy’s troubling battle with addiction. Via her Instagram Story, she writes, “Instead of constantly being worried about me, Ray J needs to focus on what he did to Wendy Williams. She ain’t been the same since u took her on that drug binge gang”. This is quite the accusation, especially with no other evidence to support her statement.

Throughout the years, Ray J and Wendy have sustained a friendship for quite some time. There was a short period in which internet sleuths had a strong belief there was something more there. However, the two TV stars have remained platonic. With that in mind, Stunna Girl’s allegations are a little head-scratching.

However, according to the Jasmine Brand, her coming out and saying this might not be as surprising as you may think. Her and Ray J have some work history together, as she was on the Baddies South season. The “One Wish” songwriter is an executive producer for Baddies, and it seems there was a falling out between them. Stunna and her husband wanted to create content independently, and although it was reported that things were cool, Ray J allegedly said something hurtful. That led Stunna Girl to lash out at Ray J on her IG. “Stop speaking on me!!! Ur nun but a Hollywood kid who’s having a mid-life crisis at 50 fakin a gangster image once u couldn’t pay us for clout & my husband for protection anymore u started trynna be him. U even tattooed ur face like his lmaoo bye”.

What are your thoughts on Stunna Girl accusing Ray J of taking Wendy Williams on a “drug binge”? Do you expect Ray J or Wendy Williams to respond to these allegations, why or why not? Were you aware that Stunna and the R&B singer were beefing? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Kia Shine Reveals How He Co-Wrote Drake’s “Best I Ever Had”

Kia Shine recently went into detail how his co-writing credit on Drake’s “Best I Ever Ever” came together and the comments are resurfacing amid the Toronto rapper’s feud with Kendrick Lamar. He explained the infamous situation during an interview with The GAUDS Show, last year, that The Art Of Dialogue recently brought back up on X (formerly Twitter).

Shine begins by naming “Best I Ever Had” as one of the biggest songs he has. “This is a real business 101 right here,” he began. “Me and Wayne had a good relationship. I was buying verses from Wayne to put on Skinny Pimp album back in ’02 or ’03. I would be shopping and spend 10 bands and get a verse from Wayne so me and Wayne had a relationship. Fast forward and Wayne’s on fire. It’s ’08 or ’09. Wayne is ‘A Milli’ Wayne. Icon Wayne. Icon to this day.” From there, he recalls pulling up on Wayne at a studio to drop off a hook and a beat. Later, he caught wind that somehow Drake had ended up with the song and went to Universal for more information. The label confirmed he should have 25% percent ownership and they got it done.

Shine added that he didn’t expect anything in return from Wayne seeing as they were already cool with one another. “But, if you finna sample this song and go number one with it, I’ma have to get my sh*t. I don’t care if you Drake, Obama, whoever you are.” Shine remarked. Despite Drake eventually accusing him of lying about the situation, Shine says that they ran into each other in person and it was all good. Yungeen Ace’s Foolio Diss Could Be Used As Evidence, Claims Criminal Lawyer

Jacksonville rappers Yungeen Ace and Foolio had been embroiled in a deadly feud over the last few years. Overall, the two had made viral diss tracks about one another’s deceased friends. If you remember, those tracks were “Who I Smoke?” and “When I See You.” On Sunday, it was reported that Foolio had lost his life in a shooting. Subsequently, fans were curious as to how Yungeen Ace would react. In the end, the rapper dropped a song called “Do It” in which he alludes to putting out a hit on someone.

As you can imagine, fans felt like the timing of all of this was suspicious. In fact, Bruce Rivers, a criminal lawyer who reacts to diss tracks and other legal matters on YouTube, gave his thoughts on the situation. Previously, Rivers had reacted to “Who I Smoke?” and “When I See You.” Therefore, the lawyer had some background on the situation. In the clip below, Rivers makes it clear that Yungeen Ace’s diss track could prove to be an unwise move. For Rivers, this could even be put into evidence once the investigation really kicks into gear.

Bruce Rivers Reacts To Yungeen Ace

Over the last few years, using lyrics in criminal cases has become a hot topic of debate in hip-hop. Some say this goes against First Amendment free speech laws. After all, it is freedom of expression. However, as Rivers notes, if the lyrics are about a specific situation, authorities could try to justify its usage in their case. As it stands, Tampa police are conducting their investigation, with the police chief promising arrests soon.

Kendrick Lamar Goes Viral For His Reaction To Being Pinched On The Cheek

Kendrick Lamar was on a bit of a victory lap last week. Overall, it all started with “The Pop Out.” It was here where Kendrick brought out numerous West Coast artists in an effort to unify Los Angeles. Moreover, it was an opportunity for him to perform his Drake diss tracks for the first time. In fact, he ended up delivering five-straight performances of “Not Like Us” which was the equivalent of twisting the knife in a stab wound.

Over the weekend, Kendrick Lamar kept up the momentum as he was in Compton to film the “Not Like Us” music video. Fans are anticipating the video to come out this week, although there is no exact timeline for its release. Clips from the video shoot are going viral, including one in which Kendrick is walking by a crowd. As he makes his way through, a hand reaches over and pinches him on the cheek. Lamar subsequently looks up and delivers a bright smile before heading on his way.

Drake “OVHOE” Chant Fails Miserably As BNYX Blasts The Megastar’s “Meltdown” Verse

Drake has been getting a lot of flack as of late thanks to his beef with Kendrick Lamar. Overall, there are numerous fans out there who believe he took one of the biggest Ls we have ever seen. Although Lamar is still on his victory lap, there are some who think that Drake can still come away with a win of sorts. For instance, he has two tracks dropping on Friday thanks to Camilla Cabello. These could very well be summer jams that would ultimately restore favor for the Canadian megastar.

Perhaps the most prominent chant or rallying cry throughout the beef has been “OVHOE.” This was chanted during “The Pop Out” and is a significant portion of Kendrick’s “Not Like Us” diss track. Recently, BNYX was playing a show in which the crowd began chanting “OVHOE.” It’s a move that didn’t make sense given BNYX’s loyalty to Drake. Moreover, BNYX began playing Drake’s “Meltdown” verse, and the crowd immediately went wild. It just goes to show that Drizzy still gets the people going, despite what some may say.

Drake Has The Fans Going

After a couple of rough months, you’d have to think Drake is relieved to see something like this. Some have tried to say that Kendrick did to Drake what 50 Cent did to Ja Rule. While Drake certainly has taken the L thus far, his career is far from over and this seems to prove that. Only time will tell if Drizzy can restore even more favor with a massive single, or perhaps even a return to form project.

Let us know what you think of this clip, in the comments section down below. Do you believe that this is even more proof that Drake is going to be just fine? What do you make of people trying to clown Drake, only to go off and bump his music? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Don Toliver Teases Potential Collab Album With Travis Scott

Don Toliver is on the ascent. The singular artist just scored the best first-week sales of his career with Hardstone Psycho, and for good reason. The album represents Toliver’s most ambitious and musically diverse set of songs yet. It’s easy to see why Travis Scott signed Don Toliver to his label back in 2018, and has since collaborated with him on multiple hits. Both Scott and Toliver lean into the woozy, trippy side of trap music, which means they’re often on the same page. A collab album between the two rap stars would be mind-boggling, and according to Toliver, it’s a real possibility.

The artist discussed his relationship with Travis Scott during a recent GQ profile. He praised the label boss for his artistry, and admitted that they”ve only grown closer as a collaborators. “I don’t know what the future holds, but I’m going to tell you this: I love Travis so much,” Don Toliver noted. “And me and him just, we grow together.” The outlet asked whether fans could expect to hear a joint album, and the artist said that it could be coming sooner than fans expect. “You can just about expect possibly anything from us,” he explained. “I can’t sit here and be like, ‘Oh, we’re doing the album next year.’ But I mean, I can just say this: me and Travis, it’d be a beautiful thing. And it doesn’t look too far away on the horizon. So, we’ll see.”

Don Toliver Claimed A Collab Album Isn’t “Too Far Away”

Don Toliver and Travis Scott’s track record is certainly encouraging. They have appeared on each other’s albums since the former signed to Scott’s label. Scott actually had two guest appearances on Hardstone Psycho with “ICE AGE” and “INSIDE.” The frequency of their collaborations stem from the fact that Scott and Toliver work incredibly fast together. Don Toliver detailed their process during a 2022 interview with Zane Lowe. “It’s simple math with us, man,” he explained. “We listen to the beat. We just go straight at it. Travis will jump straight in. I jump straight in, and we just feed off of each other’s energy every time. It’s always a good vibe.”

Scott has ran into some legal troubles as of late. The rapper was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and trespassing after allegedly yelling at yacht passengers in Miami Beach. He was released shortly after. “Mr. Scott was briefly detained due to a misunderstanding,” his rep, Bradford Cohen, said. “There was absolutely no physical altercation involved, and we thank the authorities for working with us towards a swift and amicable resolution.” Scott is currently in the midst of his Circus Maximus Tour.
