DJ Khaled Regrets Missing A MySpace DM From Pre-Fame Drake

DJ Khaled has revealed to Shannon Sharpe that he once missed a DM from Drake on MySpace. “I didn’t know how to work that MySpace stuff. But oh my God, if I had an opportunity to sign Drake or work with Drake before Drake was Drake. But it just shows you that he had love for me as a producer, DJ, and as an artist. The music I was making. He had love right and that’s so dope. It’s one of the biggest artists in the world and he’s my family and he’s my brother. But just to know that, before he exploded, he was listening to DJ Khaled. Wow,” Khaled said on Club Shay Shay.

Since then, Khaled and Drake have collabed nine times. Their first musical endeavor was “Fed Up” in 2009. Furthermore, their most recent venture was 2022’s “No Secret”. As with any two superstars in the game who aren’t beefing, Drake and Khaled have formed a very close friendship. However, it’s interesting to know that there was a chance for their partnership to begin even earlier.

DJ Khaled Helped Fat Joe Land His Eminem Verse

In other musical news featuring Khaled, he also helped Fat Joe land a major feature. “When we did ‘Lean Back,’ we did it in a studio in [Khaled’s] house. I remember when it came to be remix time, I would’ve never thought I had a chance in the world of getting Eminem. He told me, ‘You could get Em.’ And I went all out and I got Eminem because Khaled had pushed me to,” Joe explained during a Rolling Stone interview.

“Lean Back” soon became a smash hit. with the remix of the Terror Squad original featuring Eminem, Lil Jon, and Ma$e. That track racked up over 83 million streams and topped the Billboard Top 100. Furthermore, it also became a club classic and is still widely remembered as a fantastic meeting of the minds. Who knows, maybe Khaled and Fat Joe originally met on MySpace too.

Kendrick Lamar, Baby Keem, And Tyler, The Creator Perform “The Hillbillies” For The First Time At Camp Flog Gnaw

Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem, along with special guest Tyler, The Creator, have performed “The Hillbillies” live for the first time. The pair were performing at Tyler’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival, which is making its return after a pandemic-mandated hiatus. Tyler previously appeared in the song’s video when it was first released back in May of this year. The assembled fans seemed overjoyed by the performance, despite rumors it also served as a Drake diss track.

Camp Flog Gnaw, back for 2023, has been in full swing all weekend. Other headliners have included SZA, PinkPatheress, Earl Sweatshirt, and WILLOW. It was last held in 2021 and, aside from 2020 and 2022, has been held annually since 2012. It’s great to see the festival back at full strength. We’ll have any updates that come out of the festival here at HotNewHipHop.

J. Cole Speaks On Kendrick Lamar Collab

Elsewhere, J. Cole recently spoke on a collab with Lamar that never came to be. “In a nutshell, [Kendrick Lamar] had pulled up on me at No I.D.’s spot,” J. Cole began. “We was already building this relationship, and I had these beats at the time and I was playing them for him. Was that our first time linking? ‘HiiiPoWeR,’ one of them beats? There’s a few beats, a gang of beats that I did, I gave him. Some of them like, maybe had a hook on them, a verse- this, that, and the third.

Furthermore, he continued. “So he took them and, you know, in that moment, we talked about, ‘Yo, bro, we should do a project,’” J. Cole continued. “At that time he’s not on like that, but I’m f-ckin’ with him. At one point, it was a real thing. But bro, time and life, we ain’t ever got the chance to go in and do it correctly, because that would take time. For us to do something that’s full of our potential, that meets our real potential, you’re gonna need time. At least a year. “When you got two successful artists with lives and families, that’s hard to do,” he concluded. “We put it to bed years ago. But at one point in time, it was a real conversation, for sure. It’s not like it’s a ton of songs. It’s not like it’s some album sitting on the shelf somewhere.”

Lil Kim Is Convinced That Her New ‘The Queen Bee’ Memoir Presales Will Somehow Be ‘Surpassing The Bible’

Lil Kim recently held an Instagram Live, where she discussed the massive plans she has for her upcoming 2024 memoir, The Queen Bee. At one point, she brings up specifically just how high she believes the projections of its sales will be.

“When we post our pre-sales, we be surpassing the Bible,” Lil Kim said. “And that’s crazy. And the thing is, it’s like the Bible, like I don’t take that lightly. I already know that. But it’s like some crazy sh*t going on behind the scenes.”

Right now, The Bible is still the highest-selling book of all time. This basically means to surpass this, Kim would have to have at least five million people purchase her memoir. Could the presales make her a New York Times bestselling author upon its release? Absolutely. But having numbers high enough to exceed The Bible is unlikely.

Later on in Kim’s live stream, she also spoke about the struggles she was having with the publishing industry. “You have to be really careful when you deal with these book companies because they try to, like, literally take advantage of you,” she added.

After watching the clip, viewers also had a lot of thoughts about Kim’s Bible comment.

“She DID not surpass the Bible like are you fr,” one user commented.

“Which version of the Bible ?” another asked.

Doja Cat Teases “Surprise” Coming Monday, Announcement Garners “Blackface” Accusations

Doja Cat is reportedly dropping something on Monday. However, it’s unclear what that “something” actually will be. The video showed Doja being interviewed by a version of herself with a strange burned face. In the clip, Doja expresses the sentiment that she does indeed care about her fans. However, it is preceded by Doja’s inner voice saying that she hates her fans. While it’s unclear what Doja is putting forward, it’s interesting to see her address her relationship with her fans. As most people know, Doja has a tenuous, at best, relationship with her fans. But it’s not all roses with the announcement.

Because, as is the way with Doja, the announcement video did not come without controversy. Doja’s talk show host persona has been accused of being “blackface”. While it’s meant to be burned or muscular in complexion, it is understandable why some people are viewing it as racist in nature. However, what exactly Doja is dropping is still unknown. This is a developing story and we’ll have any updates as and when they emerge.

Doja Declares “Say So” A “Cash Grab”

Meanwhile, during a recent show in Denver, Doja made a shocking declaration on stage. The rapper called her hit single “Say So” to be a “cash grab”. It’s not the first time that Doja has derided her previous work. “Planet her and hot pink were cash-grabs and yall fell for it.” In a follow-up post, she added: “Now i can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while yall weep for mediocre pop,” the rapper declared on Twitter.

However, “Say So” was certainly a very successful “cash grab”, if that’s what Doja really believes. It picked up both Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance and the 63rd Grammys. Furthermore, it spent one week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May of 2020. Despite all this, it’s clear that Doja is not done speaking on her past work.

Joe Budden Claims He Was “Concerned” About Kodak Black Before “Drink Champs” Appearance

Joe Budden has claimed that, unlike many others, Kodak Black’s appearance on Drink Champs was not the start of his concern for the rapper. “Kodak Black looked like pure sh-t on Drink Champs. And he looked like sh-t when he was wiggling around on the floor, talking to himself in the dark when his man was taping him. He didn’t look the greatest when he dodged that bullet from two feet away that we all watched. The internet picks funny times to be concerned about people. I’ve been concerned about him for the last year,” Budden claimed on his podcast this week.

The fallout from Black’s Drink Champs appearance continues to mount as more and more people express concern for the rapper. Most recently, he beefed with Ray J after the rapper called on Wack 100 to provide some help to Black. Responding in an Instagram Live, Black told fans he was fine and made physical threats against Ray J. However, Ray J responded in kind, telling Black to put his money where his mouth was and fight him.

Black Addresses Fans After Surprise Album Drop

Meanwhile, Black addressed his fanbase this week after dropping a new album. “I vow to do better in any area I lack, or some slack needs to be picked up on. I must do better, I must do this shit. And I appreciate y’all, because if it was up to them, I’d have been out of here,” Black said on social media after the album dropped. The 18-track When I Was Dead includes three features – two from WizDaWizard and one from OG Bobby Billions.

Furthermore, the album’s lead single, “Kylie Grande”, makes reference to both Kylie Jenner and Arianna Grande. “I want Kylie Jenner twerkin’ to this/ And I want Ariana twerkin’ to this/ I want Kylie Jenner twerkin’ to this/ I want Ariana twerkin’ to this,” is how the song opens. Additionally, both Jenner and Grande are referenced several more times throughout the song. However, there is a particular focus on Jenner, who is referenced far more heavily on the track.

Trippie Redd recently canceled his Take Me Away Tour, much to the disappointment of the fans who had tickets. However, in a new video on social media, the rapper revealed the explanation about why he did — and he has a very valid reason: he had a kid.

“You guys have been talking about tour and why I canceled it, you want an explanation so boom,” Trippie Redd said, as he filmed himself smoking. “I’m dropping a project named Saint Michael, right? What if I was to tell you that’s my son’s name and I canceled tour because I had to deliver my son.”

“Life be life-ing,” he added. “Y’all sitting there bashing me, saying all this crazy stuff and here I’m just bringing my child into the world, you know?”

The timing also lines up perfectly, as Trippie recently dropped his new EP on Friday, November 10. He confirmed that his son’s full name is Saint Michael White, as he also shared a picture of him in an Instagram story. The baby is seen in a cozy green matching outfit, complete with a hat, as he has a tiny binky.

Benzino Slams Busta Rhymes For “Half-Naked” Coi Leray Video, Thinks Angie Martinez Manipulated Her Interview

Last week, Coi Leray sat down with Angie Martinez, opening up about her career, body image, and more. Of course, she also spoke on her relationship with her father Benzino. Coi and her father haven’t always seen eye to eye, making for some rough, and public, disagreements from time to time.

The “Players” performer shared that she felt like her father is “envious” of all that she’s managed to accomplish. “At first it was rocky, because I felt like he couldn’t handle my success,” she explained. “[It’s] okay because he’s human, that’s fine,” she added, giving The Source personality some grace. Benzino didn’t take kindly to his daughter’s words, however, and says that he thinks Martinez could be to blame.

Coi Leray’s Interview With Angie Martinez

During a recent live stream, he opened up about the impact Coi’s words have had on him. He described supporting his daughter since the beginning of her career, taking aim at Martinez in the process. “I know Angie Martinez doesn’t like me,” he said. “I don’t like her either… But to sit there and interview my daughter and manipulate the situation, she knew what she was doing.” He went on, claiming that Martinez should have known better than to “play” with people’s relationships with their kids. “She was wrong,” he added.

Martinez isn’t the only person Benzino took issue with in his recent stream either. He also spoke on Busta Rhymes, who starred alongside Coi in a music video for their collab, “Luxury Life.” According to Zino, Busta Rhymes should have reached out to him prior to filming. “You don’t do no video with my daughter half-naked and, you know, you a grown a** f*cking man,” he said. Tyler, the Creator hosted his annual Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival this weekend at Dodger Stadium. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like the hitmaker plans to drop anytime soon. “Y’all wanted new music?” he asked fans. “Aw, well I wanted a father. Lil Kim’s “Bigger Than The Bible” Memoir Claim Has Foxy Brown Sounding Off

Earlier this week, Lil Kim made a bold claim about the sales of her upcoming memoir. “When we post our pre-sales, we be surpassing the Bible. And that’s crazy. And the thing is, it’s like the Bible, like I don’t take that lightly. I already know that. But it’s like some crazy shit going on behind the scenes,” Kim proclaimed on Instagram Live. For context, the Bible is believed to have sold five to seven billion copies around the world. That’s almost one for every single person on Earth. Something tells us that Kim maybe exaggerating just a little bit.

However, if one person isn’t buying the claim, it’s Foxy Brown. “BIBLE [Crying face emoji]” and “[Facepalm emoji, Laughing emoji]” both appeared as separate posts on Brown’s Instagram story after Kim made her claim hours prior. Furthermore, it’s unclear when The Queen Bee will be released. However, if Kim is already talking about pre-sales, then it must be fairly soon.

Lil Kim Throws Her Panties Into The Crowd

Furthermore, it’s not just her words that are garnering Kim attention as of late. At a recent show in Atlanta, Kim subverted the trend of fans throwing things on stage by launching her underwear into the crowd. While performing at the ONE MusicFest, Kim launched the garments into the crowd.

Kim later referenced this fact when thanking her fans online. “Atlanta, thank you for your energy, it was amazing. Despite the technical difficulties, that was out of my control. Btw, who got my panties?” she asked hilariously, to much delight from her fans. It’s unknown if Kim did indeed find out the fate of her panties. However, it’s not a stretch to imagine that they will find their way onto an online sale listing in the near future.
