Eminem Returns To “The Marshall Mathers LP” House In “Tobey” Music Video Teaser

Eminem has fans feeling very happy these days with his new single “Tobey” featuring Big Sean and BabyTron, building up hype for the release of his new album The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) next week (Friday, July 12). However, they are not quite as happy as they could be, as it looks like the Lyrical Lemonade-partnered music video for the track, directed by Cole Bennett, is not quite ready for release yet. But don’t fret, Marshall Mathers fans. He recently took to social media to apologize for the delay in the visuals’ release, but did include a short clip from the upcoming video to hold fans over.

“The Tobey video is not completed- new date Monday 7/8,” Eminem captioned the clip on Twitter. “Here’s a peek in the meantime!!! Sorry 4 the delay.” In the snippet, you can see BabyTron walk past Eminem, who’s sitting on the steps of his iconic house featured in the cover art for The Marshall Mathers LP and its 2013 direct sequel. It’s a bit of a full-circle moment for the Detroit legend, as well as for the city’s own Big Sean. “Not gon hold you, Slim Shady LP was the first CD i bought wit my own money at Costco,” he recently tweeted. “Me n Em bout 4 songs in now (DVE, No Favors, Detroit 2 cypher) but being on The Death Of Slim Shady is full circle. I aint know when i bought that, that id be one of the next 1’s out da city…”

Meanwhile, “Tobey” drew some interesting reactions online for wholly different reasons relating to a lot of prominent rap beef in 2024. With Kendrick Lamar and Drake going at it, maybe folks became too battle-pilled to treat Eminem’s competitive bars on the song as anything other than direct shots. Specifically, they thought that he dissed Jay-Z. But Royce Da 5’9″ quickly hopped online to debunk this rumor.

Despite all the hype behind Eminem, “Tobey,” and The Death Of Slim Shady right now, not everyone is all the way on board. “Numbers wise, Eminem is the best Detroit rapper but the gag is nobody would say that in Detroit,” the 313’s Skilla Baby recently posited. “Numbers wise, it’s Eminem but nobody in Detroit is playing Eminem right now and I was an Eminem fan as a kid. I’m a fan of Eminem but do we consider him our best rapper? I don’t think Detroit does.”

Kendrick Lamar & Drake Fans React To Dave Free Co-Directing “Not Like Us” Music Video

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” music video is taking the world by storm right now, and there are a lot of details for fans to gush and complain about. Moreover, one of the key aspects of the video relating to Drake’s disses against K.Dot is the co-direction from Dave Free. You probably remember all of the allegations that Drizzy made about Free, Kendrick’s creative collaborator, and the Compton lyricist’s partner Whitney Alford, their kids, the abuse allegations, all of that. Well, a lot of fans think that this narrative is all but moot now, as Free’s been happy to support his friend throughout all this and even appeared in the visuals.

In addition, Whitney herself popped out during the “Not Like Us” music video alongside her two kids with Kendrick Lamar. This has all led to a lot of Drake-bashing online, and whether warranted or not, it’s combating the claims that he had in cuts like “Family Matters” and “The Heart Part 6.” Of course, this is all just optics, and we have no way to really verify whether either battling MC’s claims against the other is true at all. But there’s an Internet and culture game to play here, and fans are using these visuals’ ammo to decide on a winner.

Fans Are Loving Kendrick Lamar & Dave Free’s Direction For Drake Diss Video

However, even with all the hype behind Kendrick Lamar’s music video, we can’t imagine that “Not Like Us” made Drake break much of a sweat. After all, he was partying with Michael Rubin and a whole slew of celebrities at his White Party on Fourth of July, the day that the visuals dropped. As such, we predict that the 6ix God will probably make some cheeky post trolling Kendrick or downplaying the new release. Still, it’s got to sting to see folks revel in your downfall, as you can see some folks doing in the reactions down below.

More Fans React To Dave Free’s Co-Directing Credit On “Not Like Us”

Meanwhile, this new “Not Like Us” music video also built up even more hype for more new Kendrick Lamar music on the way. The teased West Coast banger at the start of it has fans foaming at the mouth, so we’ll see whether it actually manifests into something. Perhaps this will be the final chapter in this installment of the greatest rap beef since Jay-Z and Nas. It’s changing the context of previous disses, dismantling narratives, and suggesting what could be next in the future.

Drake Pops Out At Michael Rubin’s White Party As Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Music Video Drops

Drake had a much better Fourth of July than most of us, popping out for Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin’s White Party this week for a great time. Moreover, new footage of a “Sticky” and “Wants And Needs” performance with Lil Baby emerged online, plus a picture of him with Rubin. However, it’s still a bit unclear whether or not these new snaps are from this year or previous ones, as the 6ix God is a frequent guest at these parties, but most folks online seem to agree that these are all from 2024. Also, we do know that he got an official invite to the celebrations this year, so it all lines up.

Of course, there might have been something pretty big on Drake’s mind around 7PM Eastern time, when Kendrick Lamar dropped the “Not Like Us” music video. In it, Kendrick features his family and co-director Dave Free to clap back at Drizzy’s disses, locks up an owl in a cage, and parodies the “Family Matters” video at one point. It’s a massive moment that is garnering a lot of hype right now for its clean visuals and victory lap attitude. As such, fans are speculating wildly on how the Toronto superstar must feel about all this, but he was clearly distracted by a great party, so who knows?

Drake At Michael Rubin’s White Party

Elsewhere in this beef’s post-conclusion run, Drake has been consistently trolling Kendrick Lamar and downplaying his disses and success, which we can’t say we blame him for. After all, he might feel pretty vindicated these days after some OVO fans attacked Rick Ross in Vancouver, Canada recently due to a scuffle with them. That whole situation is still unclear, but folks have their theories that Rozay was actually the instigator. Either way, it’s clear that not every battlefield will be a winning one for Kendrick.

But alas, hip-hop has spoken, and folks like LL Cool J think that Kendrick Lamar decidedly got the win over Drake here. “Kendrick won the battle. I mean, come on,” he recently expressed. “That’s obvious. That’s a no-brainer. And listen, I like Drake. I love his music, he’s a cool dude. We don’t know each other but I like his music. I’m happy for him and everything. Kendrick… that might have been a bad choice. I like him but Kendrick did his thing.”

Kendrick Lamar Hits 3 Million Views On “Not Like Us” Music Video In Just 2 Hours

Get ready for a whole lot more debate, discourse, and clap-backs, because the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef is not quite over yet. Moreover, K.Dot just dropped the highly anticipated “Not Like Us” music video, and to absolutely no one’s surprise, it blew up like a fake room full of fireworks on Fourth of July. In fact, it surpassed 3 million views in just about two hours, and 14 hours after its release, it’s currently sitting at 13 million views as of writing this article. Of course, the numbers aren’t everything, but the positive responses to this visual across the board indicates that it’s a pretty big hit with fans.

On the other hand, this is notable because of the many claims of stream botting and fake engagement that Kendrick Lamar fans and Drake fans have hit each other with over the course of this battle. However, a lot of the big conversations have been accusations from OVO to TDE. As such, the wild success of this “Not Like Us” music video comes with a potential asterisk next to it, although the proof behind these claims is questionable. Still, even without bots, it’s hard to imagine a world in which this wouldn’t cause a major splash, so what are we really fighting over here?

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Music Video Skyrockets On Impact

Instead, most fans decided to point out some of their favorite moments and most relevant “attacks” in the “Not Like Us” music video. Chief among these discussion topics is easily the inclusion of Kendrick Lamar’s family, with his partner Whitney Alford and their two kids dancing together in an equal showing of wholesomeness and hateful trolling. Fans reacted quite excitedly to this due to Drake’s disses about the Compton lyricist’s family on tracks like “Family Matters.” Seems like a picture said more than a thousand words when it came to responding to these allegations.

Regardless, with a new song preview at the beginning, the big thing that the “Not Like Us” music video also achieved was a little bit more hope that we’ll get a Kendrick Lamar project this year. Many became delusional and thought it would drop last night, but alas, the world is not so perfect. So folks are waiting patiently on that, and to see what Drake has to say about all this. But there are so many cool moments with this visual treatment that will probably have fans rewinding for a while.

Kendrick Lamar Takes A Triumphant Victory Lap In “Not Like Us” Music Video

The wait is over. Kendrick Lamar is poppin’ out today with the “Not Like Us” music video. Social media and Kendrick fans alike couldn’t be more excited that it’s finally here. After weeks of teasing and speculation, the video is here and it quite literally features the whole city. The buzz around the “Not Like Us” music began last month when news broke that Kendrick Lamar was filming the video in his hometown of Compton. Reports of him being surrounded by a large crowd of fans and fellow artists heightened expectations for what was to come. Kendrick’s connection to Compton has always been a significant part of his identity as an artist, and fans couldn’t wait to see how this would be portrayed in the visuals.

True to Kendrick’s style, the “Not Like Us” video delivers a compelling narrative through a series of vivid scenes and symbolic imagery. One striking moment towards the end captures Kendrick looking at an owl trapped in a bird cage. Moreover, this is a a scene that definitely carries deeper layers of meaning, and is a direct shot at rival Drake’s OVO imagery. In addition, there’s of course other imagery embedded within the video. But you’ll have to see for yourself.

Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” Music Video Teasers Have Drake Fans Up In Arms

Last month, it was revealed that Kendrick Lamar was in the process of shooting a new music video for his track “Not Like Us.” He was spotted filming it in Compton alongside a huge crowd of fans and peers, leaving fans eager to see what was to come. An official release date for the video has yet to be revealed, though supporters recently got an exciting first look with some teaser photos.

In one of them, Kendrick is seen swinging at an owl-shaped piñata. “No OVH*es were harmed in the making of this video,” a disclaimer at the bottom of the image reads. Of course, this has gotten Kendrick fans more anxious than ever to see the video. Drake fans, on the other hand, aren’t happy.

As the photos make their rounds on social media, X users are weighing in, and not all of their reactions are positive. While some commenters are criticizing Kendrick for seemingly cropping part of his son’s face out of one of the images, others think his fiancée Whitney Alford looks downtrodden.

Many commenters also simply argue that the beef has gotten old, and are accusing Kendrick of milking it for streams. Regardless, Kendrick is sure to have plenty of support whenever he finally decides to drop the highly anticipated video. After all, he just reignited his fanbase with his explosive “Pop Out” show in LA, a massive donation to various charities, and more.

Kendrick Lamar Strikes A Pose For New Chanel Ad As Fans Eagerly Await “Not Like Us” Music Video

Whenever you see Kendrick Lamar pop out (rarely) at public events, there’s a good chance that he’s going to be rocking some Chanel. He’s already done a couple of ads, partnerships, and style collabs with the company, so it’s no surprise that he’s featured in another ad, posing casually with a black-and-white-striped shirt, pants, and a double-C beanie. Mr. Morale can wear whatever he wants: the real issue is something that a Twitter user replied under the post below. “Bro doing everything but dropping the music video,” they wrote in reference to the highly anticipated visuals for “Not Like Us.”

The West Coast-championing Drake diss is still at the top of the game, whether commercially, culturally, or critically. Some new photos from the upcoming music video see Kendrick Lamar bashing an OVO piñata, standing by his TDE brethren, and joining his wife Whitney Alford and their two children. This was the snapshot that really caught fans’ attention considering all the allegations that Drizzy made about Whitney and K.Dot’s family as a whole. Those were the main pieces of ammo against Kendrick, and it seems like he’s letting a picture speak a thousand words as his response to them.

Elsewhere, the hip-hop community is keeping busy by debating who won between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, something we’ll probably do until the end of time. “Kendrick won the battle. I mean, come on,” LL Cool J expressed during a recent interview with Hot 97‘s TT Torrez. “That’s obvious. That’s a no-brainer. And listen, I like Drake. I love his music, he’s a cool dude. We don’t know each other but I like his music. I’m happy for him and everything. Kendrick… that might have been a bad choice. I like him but Kendrick did his thing.

“It was great for hip-hop culture, don’t get it twisted,” LL Cool J continued concerning Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s battle. “Both of their names will be etched in history because of it. Even us just talking about it now is etching it into history. Both of them are super talented, they both did great. It ain’t like Drake completely and utterly played himself.”

Kendrick Lamar Bashes OVO Piñata In First Look At “Not Like Us” Video

Drake better gear up. “Not Like Us” already topped the Billboard Hot 100. It already went viral and spawned a dozen viral videos. It also served as the theme song for Kendrick Lamar’s iconic “Pop Out” show on Juneteenth. Now, the music video is incoming. Lamar has yet to give fans a proper release date, but he has dropped off some teaser images. They are, unsurprisingly, perfect. They set just the right tone for the song, while at the same time mocking Drake in new and unexpected ways.

The most focused bit of mockery comes in the form of an OVO piñata. One of the four teaser photos that dropped sees Kendrick Lamar bashing a piñata shaped like Drake’s signature owl logo. There’s not a lot of subtly in the photo, but it’s definitely effective. In case the point of the photo was lost, it comes with a disclaimer at the bottom. The disclaimer reads, quite dryly: “No OVOH*es were harmed in the making of this video.” It’s not hard to imagine all of the memes and gifs that are going to be made from the “Not Like Us” video once it drops.

Kendrick Lamar Reunites Black Hippy In The Music Video

The other photos also provide intriguing insight into the music video. Kendrick Lamar’s fiancee, Whitney Alford, appears alongside the rapper and their children. Lamar also calls on the entire TDE roster to show support. Jay Rock, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul are flanking their Black Hippy brethren. There are also cameos by Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith and Punch, proving that their relationship with Lamar is still strong. Other images are a bit more abstract, and will likely make more sense in the context of the music video. This is especially notable in the photo of Lamar sitting in a white room, surrounded by people with face paint on.

The body blows just keep coming for Drake. Not only has the Toronto rapper has to sit by and watch Dot take a victory lap, but his recent releases have faltered commercially. Much was made of Drake’s collabs with Camila Cabello, but they debuted to meager numbers on the Billboard charts. “Hot Uptown,” the big single from Cabello’s new album, debuted at number 92 on the Billboard Hot 100. For an artist like Drake, who holds multiple chart records, this is bad. “Not Like Us,” meanwhile, is still holding down the number three spot.

Kendrick Lamar’s Fiancée Whitney Alford Will Appear In “Not Like Us” Video

Kendrick Lamar is really building up the anticipation. The rapper played “Not Like Us” five times during his “Pop Out” show on Juneteenth. He followed that staggering performance with a music video shoot in Compton. An official release date for the “Not Like Us” video has not yet been announced. That said, the rapper has blessed us with teaser photos from the anticipated video. Some of them are predictable, like the crowd shots of Compton citizens. Others, however, are a bit more surprising.

One of the most striking photos released in relation to the video is Kendrick Lamar and his family. The rapper can be seen posing alongside his fiancee, Whitney Alford, and their two children. All four of them are staring into the camera. It’s a pose that evokes the artwork for To Pimp a Butterfly or the collector’s edition of DAMN, given the stark, black-and-white color scheme. Those who have been following the K. Dot and Drake beef, however, know that Alford’s presence is huge. Drake accused Lamar of abusing his fiancee and being estranged from his family on “Family Matters.” He also alleged that Lamar’s son was actually fathered by his manager, Dave Free.

Kendrick Lamar’s Kids Also Appear In The Teaser Photos

Whitney Alford has not commented on these accusations. She has, however, shown support for Kendrick Lamar since the beef “ended.” Alford attended the aforementioned “Pop Out” show. She was spotted in the audience alongside her two children. She also, famously, provided narration for Lamar on the 2022 double album, Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers. The rapper delved into his various failings as a partner on the album, especially when it came to infidelities. Alford and Lamar have not aired out their current situation via social media, so it’s unclear what their current dynamic is.

Alford’s presence, however, does step on what Drake was trying to achieve with his diss tracks. The 6 God clearly wanted to paint a picture of Kendrick Lamar as being a bad partner and father. The fact that his entire family is on hand, and appearing in the “Not Like Us” music video, though, takes the wind out of whatever was left in the “Family Matters” sails. Behind-the-scenes footage from the video shoot also suggests that Lamar called on his former TDE label mates to make cameos. He’s bringing everybody to this party, it seems.

Tech N9ne Goes Back To Where It All Began On “The Birth”

Tech N9ne is currently gearing up to drop his new project COSM, which will be the ninth in the Missouri-born performer’s “Collabos” series. It’s been seven years since he unveiled his last installment, and it’s safe to say that fans are ready for more. Fortunately, they don’t have to wait too much longer. COSM is expected to arrive on July 12 of this year and is available for pre-order now.

In the meantime, the hitmaker has given listeners a taste of what’s to come with a few singles like “Drippy Drop,” which he dropped earlier this month. He teamed up with Skatterman and Snug Brim for the fun, summer-ready song, and is back with more yet again. This time, he’s unleashed a solo track called “The Birth,” which leans into slightly more serious and introspective themes.

On the melancholy track, Tech N9ne reflects on some of his early days. He recalls realizing he wanted to be “an elite MC,” watching his mother struggle with various health issues, ultimately being “set free” by music, and much more. It has a fittingly nostalgic sound, which lines up well with the lyrical content. What do you think of tech N9ne’s nostalgic new track? What about its accompanying music video? Will you be adding “The Birth” to your playlist or not? Are you looking forward to hearing his new album COSM when it drops next month?
