Tinashe Capitalizes On The Hype Surrounding “Nasty” With “Match My Freak EP”

Lexington, Kentucky native Tinashe was struggling for quite a while to really breakthrough as a memorable standout. Even though the now independent artist had her fair share of hits early on, she was more of a backup singer rather than the main act if you will. However, the veteran has really come into her own with her last two albums and singles. The three-year run has consisted of mix of experimental, personal, and fun R&B jams, really providing something for everyone. One of those highlights for the songwriter has been “Nasty”. It has been so big for Tinashe that she decided to drop a new EP called Match My Freak.

On this six-track set, the 31-year-old is bringing the original Billboard Hot 100-charting smash, as well as five fresh remixes. Whether you want more danceable grooves, or slow-mo vibes, Tinashe has got you covered. To help bring all of these versions to life, she recruited DJ Tunez, Wuki, UNIIQU3, Jane Remover, OG Ron C, and DJ Candlestick. Going back to the impact of “Nasty”, the April 12 release has been on the Hot 100 list for just two weeks. However, after making its way into elite company, it catapulted from 90 to 69 over the last seven days. Additionally, the sticky lyric of, “Is somebody gonna match my freak?“, has created a new trend on social media which you can view below.

SWAVAY Just Wants To Find Real Love On New EP “BILLY”

Coming out of Atlanta, SWAVAY has proven to be one of the most versatile artists in the city. Considering Atlanta’s vast talent pool, this is certainly saying something. Overall, he can rap, but he can also sing at an incredibly high level. This was showcased on one of his most recent singles, “No Ordinary Love.” Now, however, SWAVAY has returned, this time with a new EP called BILLY. The entire project brings the R&B vibes, and it is filled with heartbreaking tracks about looking for love, and feeling like you’re playing catchup to your friends who are married with kids.

“I wrote this project in two weeks about a girl who ended up breaking my heart when I finished it,” SWAVAY said about his EP. “At least we got some good emotional ass songs outta it. I’m a simp, what can I say? This is my greatest attempt of proving to the world that I’m not one dimensional.” SWAVAY certainly achieved his goal with the project. The singing is fantastic, and the lyrics are emotional, vulnerable, and relatable. If you’re in the mood to yearn, then give this a listen.

Homeboy Sandman Is Back With His Trademark Flare On “Rich II”

The great thing about underground hip-hop is that there are so many unique personalities. There are a plethora of rappers who operate in this space and nearly every one of them brings an idiosyncratic style. One of those guys has to be Homeboy Sandman. The longtime Queens, New York lyricist has been steadily developing his mindset to the subgenre for nearly 20 years. Getting his start in the late 2000s, the 43-year-old has always been one to bring engaging material through his dry sense of humor. His goofy bars and ear for diverse instrumentals are what define him in our opinion, and it has allowed him to create an instant recognizable sound. Those qualities are all over the latest Homeboy Sandman record, Rich II.

If you have been following his career closely, you know that he likes to ride slightly off-kilter jazzy/boom-bap beats. They usually contain a faster rhythm along with chaotic drum patterns. Those are on Rich II as well and they help bring out some hilarious moments lyrically speaking. The flows that Homeboy delivers are also goofy at times, really accentuating the tongue in cheek bars. Earlier this year, we talked about a couple of singles, “Real Good” and “Do It Right”. They both do not land on this project. Instead, there is a good chance that we still get Year of the Dragon. A release date for it is still up in the air, so take a listen to Rich II in the meantime below.

JasonMartin And DJ Quik Make Magic On New Album “CHUPACABRA”

JasonMartin and DJ Quik are as Cali as it gets. They may come from different generations, but they shared a love for G-funk and smooth, feel-good music to play in the car. It doesn’t hurt that Quik is a literal G-funk pioneer. A good match on paper doesn’t always meet the results live up to the hype, but JasonMartin and DJ Quik arguably surpass expectations. They create an album that feels familiar and smooth, while at the same time distinct from their solo material. CHUPACABRA might be one of the top West Coast albums of 2024.

Part of the reason CHUPACABRA is so listenable is the musicality. The music is funky, unpredictable, and more experimental than one might expect. “CHUPA’S GROOVE” is a perfect example. It’s an instrumental passage with a bubbly bassline from Thundercat. It transcends rap conventions, yet feels right at home next to verses from Larry June and Bun B. The latter sounds excellent over the synth-heavy “Since I Was Lil.” There are too many guest verses to sift through here, but rest assured that everybody brings their A-game on CHUPACABRA. Ab-Soul is head-spinningly cool on “SOUL CIRCUS”, and CeeLo brings the grit of a classic soul sample on “DITTO.” Try to find a flaw on CHUPACABRA, and you’ll be looking for a long time.

Lucki Keeps Up His Consistency With 20-Track Project “GEMINI!”

Lucki is an artist who has an impressive discography. Overall, he has been a darling of the underground and whenever he pops out at a festival, the fans bring the energy. Last year, he delivered Sex, Money, Drugs, an album that was considered by many to be one of the best of the year. Since then, he has dropped off some two-packs and some other singles here and there. Today, however, he has returned with a new project simply called “GEMINI!” There are 20 tracks here and at 50 minutes in length, this is a perfect-sized body of work.

Throughout the run time, we only get a few features. For instance, Veeze and Rylo Rodriguez appear twice on the project. We also get a feature from Future, 42 Dugg, and Lil Yachty. As for Lucki, he brings his low-key flows to the table, while the beats are drugged out and filled switch sticky melodies. Lucki has always been known for elite beat selection, and that is certainly the case with this new project.

Let us know what you think of this brand-new project from Lucki, in the comments section down below. What is your favorite project from the artist? Do you think this new project could climb the ranks as the best Lucki project thus far? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. MoneyBagg Yo Refines His Formula On New Album “SPEAK NOW”

MoneyBagg Yo knows what fans want from him. The Memphis rapper makes hard, trunk-rattling trap music. It’s what led to him breaking out in the 2010s, and what has kept him thriving in the 2020s. He’s scored top 20 hits on Billboard, scored a Grammy nomination, and worked with some of the biggest rap artists in the world. If it ain’t broke, there’s nothing to fix. That’s the approach MoneyBagg Yo takes on his new album, SPEAK NOW. And it works. This is not MoneyBagg Yo’s country pivot, despite sharing a title with a Taylor Swift album.

Fans might also be thrown off by the fact that the rapper has a duet with country superstar Morgan Wallen on the song “WHISKEY WHISKEY.” It’s an odd combination on paper, but it actually works pretty well, with Wallen blending pretty comfortably into MoneyBagg’s trap aesthetic. The other features on the album are veterans when it comes to riding hard-hitting beats, and they deliver accordingly. Chris Brown shines on the moody slow jam “DRUNK OFF U,” and Lil Durk proves that him and MoneyBagg still have great chemistry on “GANGSTAS RELATE.” That being said, SPEAK NOW is at its best when MoneyBagg Yo goes solo. “PLAY DA FOOL” and “SPEAK” are testaments to the repetitive, hypnotic pocket the rapper is able to tap into. Fans are going to like this one.

NxWorries Prove Lightning Strikes Twice With “Why Lawd?” Album

NxWorries was one of the rare musical combinations that lived up to its potential. Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge teaming up for a genre-spanning album was such a cool idea that it was impressive that the two of them managed to pull it off. That was way back in 2016, though. Paak and Knxwledge have made a lot of music since, so there was uncertainty as to whether they could do it again. Well, they did just that. The second NxWorries album, Why Lawd?, is weirder and even better than its predecessor.

Part of the reason this sophomore album has superseded Yes Lawd is the chemistry between Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge. It’s obvious they’re more comfortable working together, and their chemistry leaps out of the speakers on songs like “Daydreaming” and “HereIAm.” The duo also manage to weave in more guest features than last time. Dave Chappelle sets a memorable tone in the opener, and the rest follow suit. Thundercat sounds lovelorn and funky as ever on the standout “KeepHer,” while H.E.R. and .Paak excel on the duet “Where I Go.” Earl Sweatshirt is in his element over the chunky soul instrumental on “WalkOnBy,” while .Paak protege Rae Khalil steals the show on two separate tracks. Why Lawd? is everything a sequel should be but rarely is: bigger, more ambitious, and actually better.

Let us know what you think of this brand-new track, in the comments section down below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.

Don Toliver Drops His Best Album Yet With “HARDSTONE PSYCHO”

Don Toliver has an instantly recognizable voice. Few artists make their presence on a track known as a quickly as the Houston rapper. It’s the reason Travis Scott signed him to Cactus Jack Records, and why he’s amassed a huge following over the last five years. HARDSTONE PSYCHO is his fourth album, but it truly feels like a coming out party. The album encapsulates everything Don Toliver does well on record, while introducing new and exciting musical ideas. Simply put, it’s his best release to date.

The writing was on the wall from the singles. “BANDIT” was a stunning teaser single built on a classic rock sample and a stuttering beat. “ATTITUDE” was even better, as Don Toliver teamed up with Cash Cobain to remake a beloved Pharrell track. The rest of HARDSTONE PSYCHO maintains this exciting, musically bold direction. “BACKSTREETS” is a memorable duet with another eccentric vocalist, Teezo Touchdown. Travis Scott shows up a couple of times to wave the Cactus Jack flag, but his presence is most notable on the nocturnal “INSIDE.” All of the features do their thing, but HARDSTONE PSYCHO is a triumph because Toliver carries the solo tracks with newfound confidence. He’s never sounded better on solo cuts like “LAST LAUGH” and “TORE UP.” He’s the real deal, in case that was ever in doubt.

Let us know what you think of this brand-new track, in the comments section down below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.

Twoaym Goes On A Brisk But Memorable Rampage On “Machiavelli” EP

In a recent interview with Matter News, Columbus, Ohio rapper Twoaym expressed that she had been dealing with a lot of negative energy around her. While it was not easy to handle in the moment, she expressed how much she has learned. “When you have somebody around you that’s really not supposed to be around you, God or whatever eternal power will tell you, ‘This person isn’t good for you’. So, I had to get rid of a lot of people who I’m no longer affiliated with. And the people around me now are encouraging me to get better with my anger, with my aggression“. You can tell on Twoaym’s newest project, Machiavelli, that the tracks were recorded during this tumultuous time.

Even on the more somber “Interstate 10”, Twoaym is still bringing that same anger and rapping with a purpose. However, it is conveyed in a more self-reflective way that adds some diversity to the high-intensity records. Speaking of which, “The Harvest” opens up this 15-minute expedition into Twoaym’s mind with tons of personality and it leaves the listener wanting more in the best way possible. It perfectly segways into “Allegiant”, which sees her and her new circle of friends rising up through the adversity together. It is perhaps the most triumphant moment on the EP and is poised to be one of Twoaym’s next hits. Overall, she demands your attention in convincing fashion on Machiavelli, as her mic presence is that of a 20-year veteran. The beauty in this short offering is that this is just scratching the surface of what she has to offer.
