Here Are The Best Halloween Costumes From Music Artists In 2023

Due to its awkward placement within the week, Halloween 2023 celebrations kicked off early this weekend. Every year, Heidi Klum shuts the internet down with an over-the-top look. However, many of music’s biggest names aren’t far behind. Some of the most searched outfit inspirations this year included Beyoncé, Drake, and Taylor Swift. However, neither of those entertainers has shared their spooky spirits with their followers just yet.

So far, here are the best Halloween costumes from music artists in 2023 in alphabetic order.

Adele

During her latest Las Vegas residency show, Adele completely changed her signature look when she took the stage dressed as the fictional character Morticia Addams.

Halle Bailey & DDG

Halle Bailey and DDG pulled inspiration from another musical pairing for their look. The couple dressed up as Janet Jackson and the late Tupac’s characters in the 1993 film Poetic Justice.

Ice Spice

For Ice Spice, she traded her signature ginger curly afro for a short jet-black cut to embody the animated cartoon character Betty Boop.

Kim Petras

SAG-AFTRA instituted strict rules around members’ Halloween costumes, but those restrictions didn’t apply to Kim Petras. The singer decided to dress as Cherry Darling from the 2007 indie horror flick Planet Terror.

Lizzo

The death of Tina Turner still saddens the world. For Lizzo, she chose to use her spooky night plans to pay tribute to the late singer.

Machine Gun Kelly & Megan Fox

Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox put their love for Manga on full display with two couple costumes. But their Death Note-inspired looks will take your breath away.

Tyga

Tyga is a monster when it comes to the beats he bodies so for his Halloween look, he opted to be as equally terrifying. The rapper went all out for his Art The Clown (from the 2016 slasher film Terrifier) get-up.

We will be updating this list as more celeb costumes continue rolling in.

Lizzo Has Reportedly Asked The Courts To Dismiss Sexual Harassment Lawsuit Filed By The Singer’s Former Dancers

In August, the world was shocked by the news that Lizzo was being sued by three of her former dancers over accusations of sexual harassment and fostering a hostile work environment. Although the “Bad Day” singer maintains her innocence, she’s decided to keep a low profile, with minimal public appearances unrelated to work. There have been countless unsubstantiated nuggets of information to come out, but for the most part, due to the case being an ongoing legal matter, not much has been known until now.

On Friday, October 27, Rolling Stone obtained a new motion filed by Lizzo’s representatives. According to the outlet, Lizzo, via her team, has reportedly asked the courts to dismiss the sexual harassment lawsuit, citing the anti-SLAPP (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation) statute.

“Plaintiffs missed flights, arrived late and hungover to rehearsals and drunk to performances, entered into consensual sexual relationships with male crew members on tour, exhibited a rapid decline in the quality of their dancing and professionalism, and ultimately conspired to make and disseminate an unauthorized recording of a creative meeting with Lizzo and the dance cast,” read the filling.

The documentation continued, “Plaintiffs had it all, and they blew it. Instead of taking any accountability for their actions, Plaintiffs filed this lawsuit against Defendants out of spite and in pursuit of media attention, public sympathy, and a quick payday with minimal effort.”

The accusers have spoken to news outlets and appeared on televised programming, such as Today, to discuss their allegations.

Eighteen of Singer Lizzo’s Employees Sign Declarations of Support

Lizzo Emmys

Pop star Lizzo has been fighting vicious allegations since four of her back-up dancers filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against her. Her former employees are alleging she fostered a hostile work environment by forcing her to do and visit explicit places. Now 18 of Lizzo’s employees including dancers, choreographers and musicians who have taken part in Lizzo’s touring company allege they never witnessed or experienced body-shaming, racism or other forms of harassment during their tenure with the pop star.

Page Six reports:

Lizzo’s legal team received signed declarations from 18 of the Grammy winner’s staffers who dispute the claims made in a scathing lawsuit filed by three of her ex-dancers, Page Six has learned.

According to court documents filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday and obtained by us exclusively, dancers, choreographers and musicians who have taken part in Lizzo’s touring company allege they never witnessed or experienced body-shaming, racism or other forms of harassment during their tenure with the pop star.

Dancer Arianna Davis claimed in the original suit that the “Juice” singer allegedly called out her weight gain even though she had disclosed to management that she battles binge eating, depression and anxiety.

However, dancer Melissa Locke claims in her statement, “Having worked with Lizzo for years, it is my personal belief that Lizzo would never body shame anyone, including Davis, or comment on her weight in a negative and hurtful manner.”

Jayla Sullivan, a dancer and contestant on “Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls,” adds in her declaration that she “never observed” Lizzo shaming Davis or co-plaintiff Crystal Williams, adding, “Lizzo inspired all of us to celebrate and love ourselves and our bodies as we are.”

Asia Banks — who describes herself as the “biggest dancer on tour” in the filing — says in her statement, “Lizzo assembled an entire group of plus-size dancers to showcase our talent and celebrate us.”

The new declarations also dispute the plaintiffs’ recollections about a team outing at Bananenbar, an adult entertainment club in Amsterdam in which the ex-dancers claimed they were forced to participate in inappropriate sexual acts.

Per the original suit, Lizzo allegedly pressured dancers to take turns “touching nude performers, [catch] dildos launched from the performers’ vaginas and [eat] bananas protruding from the performers’ vag***s.”

However, drummer Michel’le Baptiste states in her declaration that she saw Davis at the bar during the night in question and the dancer allegedly “did not look uncomfortable.”

“She was having a great time, just like we all were,” the musician further claims.

Dancer Melissa Locke states in her declaration that she spoke with Davis and her co-plaintiff Noelle Rodriguez the morning after Bananenbar.

“They never said they felt uncomfortable or pressured,” she alleges in her statement. “They were very enthusiastic about what a great night out they had.

“I remember telling them, ‘That sounds like so much fun, I wish you had woken me up to go with you.’ They agreed that it was a fun night and told me that they went out in the Red Light District after. They did not complain or sound upset in any way.”

Several Lizzo staffers also disputed the claim that they were “pressured” to attend the salacious outings.

SZA Praises Lizzo In Spite Of Workplace Harassment Accusations

SZA and Lizzo have long been both friends and collaborators. The two are notoriously big fans of each other. They worked together on a remix of Lizzo’s track “Special” earlier this year. That’s why the R&B darling was probably as shocked as anyone else when a lawsuit was filed against Lizzo earlier this year with damning allegations of workplace misconduct and harassment against the singer. The “About Damn Time” singer and her team were accused of bullying dancers for their weight and race and in one now notorious incident forcing the entire team through a grueling re-audition.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, SZA talked about all kinds of different things. One thing she didn’t want to address directly were the legal issues that Lizzo was facing, but she did comment on the singer herself. “I’m just saying, based on the values and the energy that I see in my friend, I just really think that she’s a beautiful person,” she began. It’s not a surprise to hear as many fellow performers like Beyonce and Grimes have also spoken positively about the singer’s attitude since the allegations emerged. “I just really pray that everybody recovers from this because everybody deserves to heal and feel safe and feel loved,” SZA continues. Check out the entire interview below.

Singer Lizzo Asks Judge to Dismiss Dancers ‘Ridiculous’ Lawsuit

Lizzo Christmas

Last month three former back-up dancers for pop star Lizzo filed lawsuits accusing her of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment.
Lizzo’s attorney, Marty Singer claims that newly surfaced photos show Lizzo’s accusers “happily carousing” and “gleefully reveling” backstage with the performers from a topless cabaret show in Paris during Lizzo’s tour. The photos are from March 5, which is about a month after the infamous February visit to Bananenbar in Amsterdam. Now Lizzo is filing to have the case dismissed, calling the claims ridiculous.

Page Six reports:

Lizzo has asked the Los Angeles Superior Court to dismiss the “ridiculous” harassment lawsuits her former employees filed against her this year, Page Six has exclusively learned.

According to court documents we exclusively obtained Thursday, attorneys for the “About Damn Time” singer, 35, list at least 31 lines of defense that explain why the suits should be tossed out.

However, the Grammy winner is also requesting a trial by jury in response to the complaints.

In the new docs, Lizzo denies “each and every allegation” made against her, citing as one of her defenses that her ex-dancers are “guilty of unclean hands,” which is a legal term that accuses the plaintiff of participating in anything “unethical in relation to the subject of the lawsuit.”

Lizzo’s lawyers also point out that the singer’s team had “anti-discrimination and anti- harassment policies and complaint procedures in place,” which they claim the dancers “failed” to make available to themselves so that they could follow proper internal procedures.

“Defendants’ conduct was justified,” the court papers also state.

Lizzo also argues that in her defense there is no proof that her dancers suffered damages or losses because of her conduct and not their own or those of other entities.

Lizzo Presented the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award at BMAC Gala: ‘I Needed This Right Now’

Lizzo

Lizzo was awarded the BMAC Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award at the 2023 Black Music Action Coalition gala. The award comes while Lizzo faces multiple lawsuits for hostile work environments and harassment.

Earlier in the day, Lizzo was given a second lawsuit citing the star for sexual and racial harassment. The award was given to Lizzo by the cast of her reality show, Watch Out For the Big Grrrls.

“I needed this right now,” Lizzo said. “God’s timing is always on time! I’ve been blessed to receive a lot of incredible awards. But this one truly hits different because humanitarianism is selfless. And to be kind to someone isn’t a talent. Everyone can do it. It’s a gift that you give. In all my years of activism and outreach, I have witnessed at the core of every organization, every movement, every march is just people helping people.”

Lizzo is firing back at her accusers of hostile work environment and sexual harassment. Lizzo’s attorney, Marty Singer, spoke with TMZ and shared images of Lizzo’s accusers taking pictures with the singer and topless dancers at a European cabaret show. The image was from a show in Paris a month after the Amsterdam banana incident. Additionally, Lizzo plans to countersue her accusers.

Singer characterized the accusers in the image as “gleefully reveling” in the presence of the dancers. The accusers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, state they were forced to attend the Paris event, citing the images as contradictory.

An audition featuring Davis after both incidents also has her singing Lizzo’s praises. “It’s been so amazing and such a beautiful journey,” Davis said. “I look up to her so much. I just want to follow in her footsteps, and I just want to share that with the Queen Lizzo herself.”

The lawyer for the women, Nema Rahmani, blasted the image from Paris.

“Of course, they wanted to keep their jobs. They had bills to pay just like everyone else but they finally had enough of the abuse,” Rahmani said. “We stand by every claim in the lawsuit and look forward to trial.”

Lizzo was spotted in the streets and gave an update, stating she was working on new tunes.

Several of pop diva Lizzo’s former dancers filed a complaint against her last month, alleging that they were subjected to hostile working conditions and sexual harassment. Fans questioned the veracity of the rumors after hearing explicit accounts of occurrences. Present-day dancers for Lizzo now provide their support. They wrote in a touching letter that was shared on Instagram:

“We have been so honored to share the stage with such amazing talent. The commitment to character and culture taking precedence over every movement and moment has been one of the Greatest lessons and Blessings that we could possibly ask for,” the post said.

“THANK YOU to Lizzo for shattering limitations and kicking in the door way for the Big Grrrl & Big Boiii Dancers to do what we love! You have created a platform where we have been able to parallel our Passion with a purpose!” it continued.

Ron Zambrano, the attorney representing the former dancers who filed the lawsuit, responded in a statement Friday saying it was “understandable that current employees would gush about her. They want to keep their jobs and maintain access to her global celebrity. But the comments change nothing about the allegations in the lawsuit.”

Since the lawsuit was filed on August 1, at least ten former Lizzo staffers have come forward with similar accounts of being abused and harassed by the musician, according to Zambrano.

“Some of them will certainly be actionable,” he said. “Lizzo’s job now is to try to do everything she can to limit the damage to her brand and save her career. Our job is to vigorously litigate this case on behalf of the plaintiffs based on the facts and we’re confident the truth will prevail over the spin.”

Lizzo Got Emotional Accepting A Humanitarian Award Amid Her Harassment Lawsuits: ‘I Needed This Right Now’

Things for Lizzo have been tough on the legal front over the past couple months: In August, she was sued for alleged harassment by some of her former dancers, and another similar lawsuit was also just filed against her. She put that aside for at least a night yesterday (September 21), when she accepted the Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award at the Black Music Action Coalition Gala.

Accepting the award, Lizzo teared up as she spoke (as Variety reports), saying, “Black Music Action Coalition, y’all really are about that action. Thank you so much for this, because I needed this right now. God’s timing is always on time! I didn’t write a speech because I don’t know what to say in times like these.”

From there, she described some of her humanitarian and activist efforts and continued, “It’s easy to do the right thing when everybody’s watching you, and it’s what you do in those moments when nobody’s watching that defines who you are. And I’m going to continue to be who I am, no matter who’s watching. I’m going to continue to shine a light on the people who are helping people, because they deserve it. I’m going to continue to amplify the voices of marginalized people because I have a microphone and I know how to use it. And, I’m going to continue to put on and represent safe spaces for fat Black women, because that’s what the f*ck I do!”

Lizzo is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
