Lizzo Is ‘Taking A Gap Year And Protecting My Peace,’ She Explains While On A Lovely Vacation

Lizzo has been flying relatively under the radar ever since she started facing harassment lawsuits in 2023. It seems she’s perfectly content with this mode of being and is actively enjoying the break.

In an Instagram post shared yesterday (August 25), Lizzo shared a video of herself enjoying rain in a swimsuit and wrote, “I’m taking a gap year & protecting my peace.”

Indeed, Lizzo seems to have been prioritizing her mental health lately. In May, she wrote, “I’m the happiest I’ve been in 10 months. The strange thing about depression is you don’t know you’re in it until you’re out of it. I’m definitely not all the way as carefree as I used to be.. But the dark cloud that followed me every day is finally clearing up. My smile reaches my eyes again and that’s a win. I thought my album was finished.. but I gotta get some of these good vibes off in a banger real quick. Thanks for your patience.”

She also responded to being referenced in South Park, saying, “That’s crazy. I just feel like, ‘Damn. I’m really that b*tch.’ I’m really that b*tch. I really showed the world how to love yourself and not give a f*ck to the point where these men in Colorado know who the f*ck I am. And put it on their cartoon, that’s been around for 25 years. I’m really that b*tch. And I showed y’all how to not give a f*ck and I’m going to keep showing y’all not to give a f*ck.”

Lizzo Defends Kamala Harris’ Tenure As Vice President From Critics

Lizzo is fully onboard with Presidential candidate Kamala Harris. One thing she isn’t onboard with, though, is the criticism that’s been leveled at Harris. Many of the Democratic nominee’s critics have pointed to her inactivity as Vice President as a sign that she will be an unworthy President. Lizzo, on the other hand, has critiques for these critics. The singer hopped on Instagram on July 22 to defend Harris, and make a few broader points about Vice Presidents.

Lizzo asserted that Vice Presidents are rarely known for their achievements. “For everyone saying that Kamala Harris didn’t do anything when she was VP,” she stated. “Please, for $5,000. Do not use Google. Tell me what any vice president has ever done during their term that was notable that you noticed. She went on to posit that VP’s are meant to take a backseat to the President. She then pointed to Joe Biden, and his tenure as Vice President under Barack Obama. “It’s funny because when Joe Biden was VP, the only things I really remember him doing was making cool videos with Barack,” she added.

Lizzo Feels Harris Is Suffering From A Double Standard

Lizzo then highlighted what she felt was a double standard with regards to Harris. “When [Biden] ran for president, I didn’t hear that same, ‘He didn’t do anything when he was VP’ from people,” she noted. “So I wonder why y’all are saying it now.” She then dared Harris’ critics to be blunt about what they don’t like, rather than hide behind reasons she feels are weak. “Can we all just be for real,” she said. “Let’s all be for real and say our quiet parts out loud. Because the discourse is tired.” This is not the first time Lizzo has voiced her support for Kamala Harris.

In 2020, Lizzo hosted a conversation with Harris for National Black Voter Day. The singer brought up the topic of backlash, and asked how Harris contends with the criticisms that are leveled at her. The nominee claimed that she intends to change things from the inside. “I made the decision to go up the rough side of the mountain,” she stated. “To go inside the system.. I also understand the brilliance of being outside of the system.” At the end of the conversation, Lizzo urged everyone in attendance to make their voice heard. “The moral of the story is vote, vote, vote, vote, vote,” she concluded.

Lizzo Responds to ‘South Park’ Ozempic Episode That Rebrands Weight Loss Drug in Rapper’s Name

South Park spares no one, and not even Lizzo is safe. The rapper just shared her reaction to a recent episode of South Park that satirized the Ozempic weight loss drug craze by using her name and body positivity brand as an alternative solution. Yup, they did that, and you have to see her stitch reaction on her Instagram account @lizzobeeating to believe it.

On Friday (May 24), the animated comedy series released “The End of Obesity” on Paramount+. In the episode, South Park character Eric Cartman seeks a prescription for Ozempic to lose weight, but when he can’t afford the drug and his insurance won’t cover it, his doctor offers an unconventional solution … Called LIZZO. Wild.

“I’m going to write you a prescription for Lizzo,” the doctor says in the episode. “She’s a really good singer who talks about body positivity, and just being happy with the way you look. I want you to listen to Lizzo five times a day, and watch her videos just before bedtime. I’m afraid you’ll have to be on Lizzo for the rest of your life.”

In seemingly all good fun, Lizzo used the joke to her advantage and responded to the episode with a TikTok video in which she watches a portion of the episode. “That’s crazy. I just feel like, damn, I’m really that b—-,” she says in the video. “I really showed the world how to love yourself and not give a f— to the point where these men in Colorado know who the f— I am and put it on their cartoon that’s been around for 25 years.”

On a more serious note, Lizzo recently discussed her mental health amid ongoing lawsuits and public criticism. “I’m the happiest I’ve been in 10 months,” she wrote on Instagram. “The strange thing about depression is you don’t know you’re in it until you’re out of it.

Lizzo also faced scrutiny over the past year due to a harassment lawsuit filed by three former dancers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, in August 2023. The lawsuit accuses Lizzo and her company, Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc., of various legal wrongdoings and includes detailed allegations. In response to the lawsuit, Lizzo denied the claims on Twitter, calling them “false allegations” and “sensationalized stories.”

Lizzo Reacts To Her ‘Worst Fear’ Of Being Referenced On ‘South Park’ Becoming A Reality

The Simpsons are jokingly known for seemingly predicting the future. On the other hand, South Park‘s strongest quality is the writers’ ability to humorously spin current events. In its South Park: The End Of Obesity, the comedy took on weight loss drug Ozempic’s rise and Lizzo’s body positivity advocacy.

Yesterday (May 25), the “Pink” singer took to Instagram to share her reaction to being mentioned in the special. “My worst fear has been actualized,” she said. “I’ve been referenced in a ‘South Park’ episode. I’m so scared.”

To summarizes the segment Lizzo reacted to, Kyle’s mother (Sheila Broflovski) and Stan’s mother (Sharon Marsh) discuss Sheila’s past concerns around her weight. Instead of taking to Ozempic or Mounjaro, Sheila opted for the fictitious diet suppressor, Lizzo. Rather than losing weight, users shake their desire to exercise or care of others opinions.

“That’s crazy,” she said. “I just feel like, ‘Damn. I’m really that b*tch.’ I’m really that b*tch. I really showed the world how to love yourself and not give a f*ck to the point where these men in Colorado know who the f*ck I am. And put it on their cartoon, that’s been around for twenty-five years. I’m really that b*tch. And I showed y’all how to not give a f*ck and I’m going to keep showing y’all not to give a f*ck.”

She closed out her reaction video by singing the episode faux jingle.

“South Park” Skewers Lizzo And Body Positivity In New TV Special

South Park has built its reputation on mocking celebrities. The show holds nothing sacred, and has spent the last two plus decades taking down everything from politics to organized religion. Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the show’s creators, have a knack for knowing when to focus on a given topic to elicit maximum comedy. They did it again with their latest special, “The End of Obesity.” As one can infer from the title, South Park is taking aim at the recent Ozempic craze, and the body positivity promoted by artists like Lizzo.

In the special, all local women turn to Ozempic while claiming that they’re exercising to lose weight. Cartman wants to get his hands on the drug, but since he can’t afford it, he’s prescribed Lizzo instead. Lizzo, in this context, is another way of saying “body positivity.” The running joke throughout the special is that taking “Lizzo” allows you to eat and do whatever you want without feeling out of shape. “Lizzo” is something that allows you to think that you’re beautiful just the way you are. As with most absurd ideas on South Park, things go south. There are side effects to taking “Lizzo,” and they are predictably messy.

Lizzo Is A “Substitute” For Ozempic In “South Park”

Lizzo has had a difficult couple years in the public eye. The singer was once adored as a pop culture force, but allegations of disability discrimination, harassment, and body shaming from former backup dancers has shifted the public’s perception. Multiple lawsuits were brought against the “Truth Hurts” singer. Some were dismissed, but others, most notably those pertaining to sexual harassment, were upheld by the court. Lizzo denied these allegations outright. She claimed they were “too outrageous” to ignore, though.

Lizzo defended her character in a statement uploaded to X. “With passion comes hard work and high standards,” she explained. “Sometimes I have to make hard decisions. It’s never my intention to make anyone feel uncomfortable or like they aren’t valued as an important part of the team. I am not the villain that people and the media have portrayed me to be… There is nothing I take more seriously than the respect we deserve as women in the world.”

Lizzo experienced severe depression in the wake of these lawsuits. She recently hopped on Instagram to let her fans know that she’s happier than she’s been in months. “The strange thing about depression is you don’t know you’re in it until you’re out of it,” she wrote. “I’m definitely not all the way as carefree as I used to be.. But the dark cloud that followed me every day is finally clearing up.” It’s unlikely the South Park special is going to help alleviate said cloud.

Lizzo Reflects On Depression And The ‘Dark Cloud’ That’s ‘Finally Clearing Up’

Up until last summer, Lizzo was unstoppable. She became a breakout star with hits like “Truth Hurts” and “About Damn Time,” her TV series Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls won an Emmy, and she was using her newfound prosperity for good. In August 2023, though, Lizzo was sued by some of her former dancers for alleged sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment.

Lizzo has laid relatively low since then, and understandably, she has been going through it. In a new Instagram post shared on May 21, Lizzo wrote about depression she has faced, and even offered a quick update about her next album.

The image is a mirror selfie, in which Lizzo flashes a small smirk. The caption reads:

“I’m the happiest I’ve been in 10 months.

Lizzo’s Tree-Like 2024 Met Gala Dress Had Fans Thinking She Is Groot

Last night’s Met Gala festivities served up some truly classic, head-turning, head-scratching, eyebrow-raising ensembles that will surely be remembered among some of the events most creative. Doja Cat took an interesting angle on the flowers theme, while Usher’s dramatic look inspired comparisons to all kinds of pop culture superheroes. Another star whose outfit generated a ton of buzz on social media was Lizzo, whose form-fitting brown dress and accompanying headdress had many users making arboreal observations, including “I Am Groot.”

The star recently drew plenty of social media attention after posting about being “tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet,” leading some to speculate that she was announcing her departure from the music business. However, she later clarified her statement in another post, “When I say I quit, I mean quit giving any negative energy attention. What I’m not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music.”

Her comments may have been spurred by having to deal with an ongoing lawsuit from some of her former dancers, who alleged that she created a hostile work environment. She has since requested a dismissal from the suit, as many of the complaints lodged within it pertain to Lizzo’s dance team captain, Shirlene Quigley, whom the plaintiffs say made inappropriate sexual comments.

Lizzo’s Summer Body Tips Are Unconventional, But You Might Still Love Them

Lizzo is a woman with incredible vocal and flute-playing abilities, not to mention her radiant confidence. Still, many remain more focused on the multi-talent’s curvaceous body, which she proudly embraces. Unfortunately, no matter how comfortable Lizzo is in her own skin, haters always find something to criticize. Ahead of this year’s Hot Girl Summer, the Detroit native is using social media to make it clear that haters won’t stop her from enjoying the hottest season of the year outside in her Yitty swimwear.

Earlier this week, Lizzo’s Instagram shared a video breaking down three “exercises” that are sure to help you achieve the summer body of your dreams. “Hello? Who is this?” the 35-year-old asks in the video below, pretending to talk into her phone before tossing it in the pool behind her. “Block your ex,” she urged viewers. Next, the plus-sized fashionista wants to make sure we “stay hydrated,” though she might be drinking more wine than water based on her tutorial.

“And remember, you can never be too extra,” Lizzo added as her third tip while sitting poolside in a pretty lavender two-piece. “❌❌❌ Cus EVERY DAMN BODY is a Summer Body in @yitty ❌❌❌,” the “Special” singer wrote in her caption. Beneath the post, comments of support for Lizzo’s message are littered between others condemning her for various reasons.

Lizzo’s been under a lot of pressure in 2024, from appealing the lawsuit coming from her former dancers to nearly quitting music due to backlash from trolls online. The lawyer for those suing the “About Damn Time” hitmaker claimed that her emotional outburst is nothing more than a cry for attention, and since then, Lizzo’s confirmed she won’t be walking away from the industry after all. Lizzo Is Not Quitting Music, ‘The Joy Of My Life,’ Contrary To Viral Reports

Today, in “don’t belive everything you read on the internet” news, it turns out Lizzo is not “quitting music,” as many gleaned from a post in which she vented about her frustrations with how she’s perceived in the media. Rather, she says she’s quitting on giving energy to that negativity, as she clarified in a new video post taken from what look like quite comfortable surroundings. In the video, Lizzo takes a moment before hitting the beach or the pool at whatever resort she’s currently enjoying to address the viral reports stemming from her post.

“When I say I quit, I mean quit giving any negative energy attention,” she explained. “What I’m not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting the people… In no way, shape, or form am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive. If I can just send one person the inspiration or motivation to stand up for themselves and say they quit letting negative people win, negative comments win, then I’ve done even more than I could have hoped for.”

Lizzo’s no stranger to receiving negative comments but the singer has seen the scrutiny on her increase in the months since being sued for creating a hostile workplace by a group of her former tour dancers. While Lizzo shut down the allegations in the suit and, in fact, received messages of encouragement from many of her industry peers, her request to have the case thrown out was denied.

A month later, she wrote on Instagram, “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it. I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look… my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn’t sign up for this sh*t — I QUIT.”

If all this means is that she’s turning over her social media passwords to a qualified manager to add a buffer between herself and the negativity, then good on her. While being authentic online is key to many artists’ brands, there’s definitely a threshold of diminishing returns if it means they have to suffer bullying from anonymous nobodies with nasty spirits. Here’s hoping she finds some peace of mind as she works on her next album.

Lizzo is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an indpendent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Lizzo Goes On Explosive Rant About Her Haters, Ends It By Saying “I QUIT”

A running theme that has permeated throughout the career of Lizzo is backlash. The Detroit, Michigan vocalist has been one of the biggest stars in the music industry for the last few years. Almost everyone knows that fame is a good enough reason for the public to say negative things about you. However, the criticism really has not revolved around her music. It has had more to do with her severe sexual harassment and hostile work environment allegations from her ex-dancers. Furthermore, there is a large audience, which includes conservative political figure Candace Owens, that is against behavior in public. All of these reasons could be factors in Lizzo recent rant in which she said, “I QUIT.”

The “About Damn Time” artist has been holding back from really speaking her mind it seems, as Lizzo unleashed on her haters. According to TMZ, Lizzo did this via Instagram story last night, shortly after people were upset at her for performing at Joe Biden’s fundraiser amid the aforementioned allegations. The event was held at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City with the other performers being Queen Latifah, Ben Platt, and more. Lizzo explosive message reads, “I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look… I didn’t sign up for this s***… I QUIT.”

Is Lizzo Signing Off For Good?

She also feels that, “the world doesn’t want me in it,” and that all she wants to do is “make music and make people happy.” There are definitely a few ways to assess these comments from Lizzo. She could be saying “I QUIT” to get off social media, or at least take a break from it. Another way to view it is that she could be done trying to please the critics and just live her life. Or, the most extreme meaning would be that she is done with music. There will certainly be more to come, so be sure to stick around.

What are your thoughts on Lizzo saying “I QUIT” on social media? Do you think this has been building up for some time, or because of recent events? Will she be signing off from social media for good, or will she take a short break? Or, do you think she is talking about quitting music altogether? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Lizzo.
