Pharrell Enlists Lil Wayne, Lil Yachty And Kyle Richh For “Can’t Hold Me Down”

Pharrell knows what he’s doing. He’s one of the most revered producers in the world, and he’s made hits for longer than some of his collaborators have been alive. Despite his longevity, Pharrell always finds new ways to push his sound. He has his signature four count, but past that, there’s little similarities between his different eras. “Can’t Hold Me Down,” the artist’s latest single, is another bold step forward. He brings Lil Wayne, Lil Yachty and Kyle Richh into the mix for a song driven by bombastic synth lines.

“Can’t Hold Me Down” has a blunt force instrumental. Once it gets going, it doesn’t stop. This means the rappers on the track have to match its energy. Kyle Richh’s husky voice is a perfect match for Pharrell’s beat, firing off one quotable after another. Lil Yachty is the wild card, given how warbly and goofy his vocals can tend to sound. That said, Boat manages to hold the middle verse down while delivering the chorus. The chorus is arguably the weakest part of the song, as it just reverts to repeating the title. Lil Wayne comes rolls through to absolutely crush the last verse, though. Weezy continues to prove that nobody can be as consistently eccentric and clever, and he gets the song across the finish line.

Lil Wayne & Nicki Minaj Bodied “Mercy” On “Dedication 4”

There’s no doubt that Lil Wayne is one of the greatest MCs to ever spit into a microphone. He may not be at the peak of his powers anymore; however, his influence and tons of classic projects make him an irreplaceable figure in the genre’s history. He did most of his dominating throughout the 2000s and into the mid 2010s, which is obviously another reason why he’s so highly regarded. Making this longevity all the more impressive is how often he was dropping. On top of streaming platforms, mixtape sites such as DatPiff were just another area where Weezy ran things. The Louisiana native was able to do this with his Dedication series, perhaps most notably.

Across the now six installments in this fan-favorite series, he gave his best stuff to tons of popular beats across hip-hop. Dedication 4 saw Lil Wayne attack “Mercy” by Kanye West, a mid-2010’s club banger that still hits today. Working with Wayne on this interpolation is none other than Nicki Minaj, one of his closest pals and collaborators. Obviously with this track officially turning 12 today, we know how it goes. But this track still wows us all these years later thanks to their show-stopping flows and hilarious bars/double entendres. Relive Lil Wayne’s “remix” of “Mercy” with the link below.

Lil Wayne Is Bringing Back His Lil Weezyana Fest With Rob49 And A Hot Boys Reunion

Fresh off collaborations with Cordae, DJ Premier, and Jessie Reyez, Lil Wayne has announced the dates and lineup for the return of his music festival, Lil Weezyana Fest, after taking 2023 off.

The Lil Weezyana Festival returns to Smoothie King Center arena on November 2, with performances from Rob49 and Lil Wayne’s former group, Hot Boys. The Hot Boys performance will be the first time the quartet of B.G, Juvenile, Lil Wayne, and Turk have performed as a group since 2003. A reunion of the group was billed for Essence Fest this year, but Wayne ended up performing his own, separate set, to fans’ confusion and chagrin.

The group was disbanded after Juvenile and B.G accused Cash Money Records CEO Birdman of not paying them. Three of the group’s members, B.G, Turk, and Wayne, then spent significant time serving prison sentences for various offenses — mostly surrounding firearms possession charges. Turk was released from prison in October 2012 after serving nine years for being a felon in possession of a firearm and other charges; B.G served 11 years on possession of a firearm and was released last year; Lil Wayne spent the least amount of time in prison for possession and has been the most active member of the group musically since 2011. Juvenile remains the only member who was never incarcerated.

In addition to the Hot Boys reunion, the flyer for Lil Weezyana Fest touts a DJ set from former Cash Money producer Mannie Fresh, as well as “surprise guests,” which have, in the past, included Drake — who could use a strong bounce back after his early 2024 struggles with Kendrick Lamar.

B.G. & Turk To Put Their Beef Aside Thanks To Lil Wayne In A Surprising Turn Of Events

Lil Wayne has seemingly pulled off the impossible. According to HipHopDX, the Louisiana rapper is hosting another Lil’ Weezyana Fest, this time in New Orleans at the Smoothie King Center on November 2. Tickets are going to go on sale Friday, September 6 at 8 a.m. PT on Ticketmaster. Cash Money label mate Mannie Fresh and Rob49 are two of the night’s performers, with more special guests coming soon. However, easily the biggest storyline from this announcement is the fact that this will be a Hot Boys reunion. That means that B.G. and Turk are supposedly on good terms now.

This is a major plot twist, especially considering just how ugly things were between them. If you remember, the Hot Boys were supposed to link back up at ESSENCE earlier this summer. However, due to some “business issues”, Turk was a no show, prompting B.G. to put him on blast on an Instagram Live. The real reason(s) as to why they were beefing are still unknown, however, when the former responded to the latter’s comments, he was bringing up the fact that he didn’t want to be disrespected.

Lil Wayne Is Helping B.G. & Turk Make Up With His Lil’ Weezyana Fest

“Disrespect won’t be tolerated, n****. I don’t give a f*** who a n**** is”. After that, things would heat up even further, with B.G. piling on in an interview saying that no one would care if Turk never returned to Hot Boys. Furthermore, the recently released rapper would go on to diss him on a YouTube exclusive track “Hands Up”. Overall, it still feels like things could take a turn at any minute, but if this remains true, then we are happy to see the Hot Boys getting the band back together.

What are your thoughts on B.G. and Turk seemingly making amends with one another? Do you think this performance at Lil’ Weezyana Fest will go over well? Do you think they will publicly speak about them reuniting? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding B.G., Turk, Lil Wayne, and JUVENILE. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Lil Wayne And Roc Nation’s Flau’Jae Drop Visuals For “Came Out A Beast”

Screenshot 2024 08 28 at 9.40.28 AM

Delivering one of the summer’s most anticipated visuals, fast-rising Flauge Entertainment/ROC Nation distribution Hip Hop recording artist, lyricist, songwriter, and NCAA women’s basketball champion Flau’jae continues serving heat off her summer 2024 debut EP “Best of Both Worlds,” with the music video premiere for her scorching collaborative single “Came Out A Beast,” featuring multi-platinum legend Lil Wayne. The video will release today at 12PM EST via digital billboards in Times Square.

Flau’jae, with her skillfully honed and proven pen game on full display, trades bars with Lil Wayne over the Dolla Baby-produced track as effortlessly as she collects wins on the court. Directed by Terrius Mykel, the energy-packed music video brilliantly captures the on-go lyrical synergy between both her and Lil Wayne on the track and on the video set. “Working with Lil Wayne on the ‘Came Out A Beast’ video was a dream come true.” Says Flau’jae. “He’s a legend in the game, and being able to collaborate with him on this track was surreal. The energy on set was incredible, and we both brought that fire to the video. This is just the beginning, and I’m excited for everyone to see what we’ve created.”

With volleying scenes of her making plays as a musician and an athlete, the video gives a courtside view of Flau’Jae in the game of achieving in music and sports while ignoring detractors as she continues along her path to legendary greatness.

Lil Wayne Shuts Down Drake Beef Rumors By Reposting New Song

Lil Wayne and Drake are one of the great rap duos of the 21st century. They have made countless hits together. Drake’s career wouldn’t have been the same without Lil Wayne, and Drake elevated Wayne’s Young Money label to heights previously thought unknown. The relationship between these two is very special to fans. Which is precisely why we were all so relieved on August 26. Lil Wayne reposted a link to one of Drake’s new songs. A minor gesture on the surface, but a seeming confirmation that everything is good between the rappers.

Drake dropped three new songs on August 23 and Lil Wayne reposted the single “No Face.” No emojis or additional text, but this is the first time the rappers have acknowledged each other in weeks. It’s been a touch and go period for Drake when it comes to his industry relationships. The Toronto star has fell out with seemingly every other big name in the game, with a few notable exceptions. Lil Wayne appeared to be one of these exceptions. He tried to spin the meaning of Kendrick Lamar’s diss “Not Like Us” during a show, and wound up just confusing fans. Then, Wayne started linking up with some of Drake’s enemies. He rapped alongside Rick Ross on the DJ Premier song “Ya Don’t Stop.”

Fans Have Been Confused By Lil Wayne’s Recent Antics

Then, Wayne was seen rocking an XO chain. XO, of course, being the label and brand of another 6 God opponent, The Weeknd. The biggest head-scratcher for fans, though, was Weezy’s verse on the Cordae song “Saturday Mornings.” There were lots of subliminal digs littered through Wayne’s verse and many theorized that Drake was the target. “You standing on business, I’m a business man,” he raps. I’ma GOAT, n**ga you a sacrificial lamb. You a Teddy bear, n**ga, a Teddy Graham.”

Barring any major revelations, Lil Wayne’s repost seems to debunk the theory that him and Drake are on the outs. Weezy actually defended the rapper as recently as January. During an episode of the Richard Sherman Podcast, Wayne posited that the Drake hatred stems from colorism. “He red, he light-skinned,” he stated. That’s just American history… How I know is because I’m not light-skinned. I hated on all light-skinned dudes in school. So yeah, it’s American history, man.”

Jessie Reyez And Lil Wayne Rock Out On New Single “Ridin”

Jessie Reyez has a very distinct sound. She’s blessed with a voice that’s immediately recognizable. The power of her voice also allows her to try her hand at different genres and sounds. She can go soft, or go into a more sultry, R&B lane. Her new single, “Ridin,” is neither. Jessie Reyez joins forces with Lil Wayne for a song that has much more of a rock edge that fans are used to. Neither artist are the first ones that come to mind when discussing rock, but they manage to navigate this sonic mashup with style. Fans of Rebirth era Lil Wayne: rejoice.

“Ridin” starts off with a bubbling bassline reminiscent of a 90s radio anthem. The tension is bolstered by Jessie Reyez’s lyrics. “Windows down, yeah, we’re ridin’. I lean the seat back, let you right in,” she sings intensely. “With the other hand, you’re still drivin’.” The song is as layered as a song titled “Ridin” should be, which is to say, not very. No problem, though. The chorus hits like a car crash when it finally comes in and Reyez gives it everything she’s got. The appeal of “Ridin” definitely lies in the tension between the quiet verses and the blown out chorus. Lil Wayne provides lots of sex metaphors, and we even get a Tesla bar to keep the “ridin” theme going strong. Another strong Jessie Reyez release.

Jessie Reyez Craves A Connection In Her Lusty ‘Ridin’ Video With Lil Wayne

Jessie Reyez has always flirted with hip-hop in her genre-defying music, but her last two singles have made the connection much more explicit — in every connotation implied. In May, she released her first solo single of 2024, “Shut Up,” with a Big Sean feature that complemented the song’s boisterous, boastful tone. Today, she’s released her second single, “Ridin’,” reaching out to Lil Wayne to add his signature slick innuendo to her sensual new track, which threads the gap between alt-rock, hip-hop, and R&B with lusty lyricism and passionate, pining delivery.

In addition to these two songs — which certainly seem to suggest a new album announcement sometime in the near future — Jessie also contributed a song to the soundtrack for Zack Snyder’s Netflix sci-fi space opera/Star Wars send-up, Rebel Moon, alongside Tokischa, Uproxx cover stars Aespa, and South African EDM superstar Black Coffee.

A new album from Reyez would certainly be timely; her last album, Yessie, was released in 2022, just two years after her debut, Before Love Came To Kill Us. That’s a one hot album every two-year average, as the man once said, so it’s probably about time for Jessie to drop a follow-up.

You can watch the video for “Ridin’” with Lil Wayne above beginning at 9 am PT/12 pm ET.

Yella Beezy & Lil Wayne Deliver Loads Of Hilarious One-Liners On “Hit”

Yella Beezy is ironically back with a new single featuring Lil Wayne called “Hit”. We say ironically because late last month, the Dallas, Texas rapper was accused of assault by four men after a Chris Brown tour stop in Fort Worth. They claim they were invited to a VIP experience and that the R&B singer ordered his entourage, as well as Yella Beezy, to settle things physically over old beef. As it stands, it seems that the lawsuit still has the possibility of going through, as there have been no further updates since the 26th. In terms of much these two artists are being sued for, it’s a healthy $50 million.

Overall, it seems that Yella Beezy is pretty confident he’s not going to be in any sort of trouble. This “Hit” record is his first of the year and it sees him work with Lil Wayne for the first time. What’s also cool about this track is that it might be a teaser to Beezy’s album. A Weezy fanpage by the name of lilwaynehq claims that the “That’s On Me” MC is dropping the LP sometime in September. However, we aren’t holding our breath just yet. In terms of the quality of “Hit”, its quite the riot. Both veterans bring a lot of energy and funny bars like these. “Got n**** poppin’ out like Janet Jackson titty, woadie“. That line alone is worth the price of admission.
