Juul Has Settled Over 5,000 Lawsuits

Juul has officially settled more than 5,000 lawsuits in relation to harm caused by their vaping products.

Native American tribes, school districts, as well as individuals and families of Juul users were responsible for bringing the abundance of lawsuits forward. Over 10,000 combined plaintiffs were involved.

Packages of Juul e-cigarettes are displayed for sale in the Brazil Outlet shop on June 22, 2022 in Los Angeles, California. The value of the settlements has not been revealed. Juul says an equity investment that they’ve acquired will help to fund it. Just last month, the e-cigarette company revealed mass layoffs.

History of Juul

Juul Labs was founded in 2015 and quickly rose to fame due to their addictive vaping products. Over the past five years, there has been a spiking popularity in vape and e-cigarettes among teens.

According to a survey done by NewsInHealth in 2019, 37% of 12th graders reported vaping the year prior.  “Teens are clearly attracted to the marketable technology and flavorings seen in vaping devices,” said Dr. Nora D. Volkow, director of NIH’s National Institute on Drug Abuse.

The popularity of Juul specifically caused the company to be largely blamed for the growth in underage vaping. Parents, politicians and school administrators all publicly attacked the company.

As a result, the e-cigarette makers dropped all of their advertising in the U.S in 2019. It also discontinued most of its flavors the same year. Additionally, in 2019, San Francisco became the first major city in the U.S. to ban both Juuls and e-cigarettes.

Juul Labs’ Future

The future of Juul Labs remains unknown after all of the controversy surrounding the company. Earlier this year, the FDA rejected their application to keep its products on the market. They wanted to market their e-cigarettes as “a smoking alternative for adults.” Furthermore, the Administration backed up their rejection by stating that the vaping company failed to address the potential chemicals that seep from their devices.

Hough also sued Kenneth’s wife Nicki Minaj, claiming the “Super Freaky Girl” rapper took part in the harassment campaign. She says the couple harassed and threatened her to make her recant her rape allegations against Petty. Ultimately, Hough dropped her claims against Minaj. But her allegations against Kenneth still stands.

Last year, Kenneth pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender. In July, a judge sentenced him to one year of home confinement and three years of probation. Petty is also pursuing legal action against the State of New York over his sex offender status. He wishes to get his name removed from New York’s sex offender registry. The 44-year old claims that he was never was able to challenge his sex offender status. However, the courts weren’t here for Kenny’s claims.

“Plaintiff’s claims are meritless, ” court docs show. “And the SORA hearing transcript demonstrates that Plaintiff is fourteen years late in pursuing this lawsuit. The statute of limitations has run. Plaintiff’s claims should be dismissed.”

Oral arguments in Jennifer Hough’s case against Petty begin on January 6, 2023.

Bill Cosby Faces Allegations From 5 Women In New Sexual Assault Lawsuit

Bill Cosby is facing another sexual assault lawsuit after five different women have come forward. All of them are accusing the now-embattled comedian of sexual assault while on the set of The Cosby Show.

The plaintiffs – Lili Bernard, Eden Tirl, Jewel Gittens, Jennifer Thompson and Cindra Ladd – were previously a part of the show’s production throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s.

Bill Cosby arrives at the Montgomery County Courthouse on the first day of sentencing in his sexual assault trial on September 24, 2018 in Norristown, Pennsylvania. In April, Cosby was found guilty on three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004. 60 women have accused the 80 year old entertainer of sexual assault. TMZ broke the story earlier today (December 6). In the suit, the women claim that Cosby was going to be their mentor. He instead turned into a predator.

Bernard was a guest star in a 1992 episode, in which she played Mrs. Minifield. She claims the 85-year-old drugged and assaulted her several times throughout her time spent on set.

When she threatened to bring his crimes to the police, the alleged victim says he threw her down a flight of stairs. Bernard ended up not reporting anything for fear of her life.

Tirl played the role of a cop on the show. She alleges that she was taken advantage of in a dressing room, with Cosby locking the door behind them.

Gittens claims that she took drugs and went through an assault at the hands of the actor in her own home. At that time, they were planning on discussing a possible role for her on his series.

Thompson alleges that there were pressures forcing her into sexual acts with him. Ladd says she became a victim after passing out from a pill he gave her for a headache.

Cosby was previously serving a 10-year prison sentence for indecent assault. He was surprisingly released last year when prosecutors violated an immunity deal previously given to him by a different attorney.

The father of five and his team markedly continue to deny these allegations and any wrongdoing. However, he has seen accusations of sexual assault from dozens of women over the years.

Cosby’s PR representative, Andrew Wyatt, has told TMZ that these accusers and their claims are not new.

Diddy Sued By Woman Who Claims To Be Kim Porter’s Niece: Report

A strange report has emerged this week and it shows that Sean “Diddy” Combs is being targeted in a lawsuit. This isn’t just any bit of litigation; the person taking to Diddy to court is only known by “Jane Roe” in documents, stated TMZ, but in a follow-up, a “source” claimed the woman wasn’t telling the truth.

Today (September 27), the outlet reported that Roe alleged she is a relative of Kim Porter‘s who worked for the mogul as a live-in nanny.

Porter, who unexpectedly passed away in November 2018, was Diddy’s ex and mother to three of his children. Roe—who stated that she is the late mom of four’s niece—suggested that the day after Porter passed, Diddy asked her if she could move in and become a full-time, around-the-clock nanny to his twin daughters, D’Lila and Jessie James.

It was in August 2020, nearly two years after Porter’s death, that Roe claimed she told Diddy she was pregnant and asked for maternity leave. When the time came for her to temporarily leave her position, Roe alleged that Diddy was angered and fired her. She claimed that because she was with child but unmarried, he said it “set a bad example” for his kids.

After their story went viral, TMZ returned to say that a “source” told them the woman was not Porter’s niece, nor was she terminated because she was expecting.
