P-Lo Taps Bay Area’s Finest For “Player’s Holiday ’25”

P-Lo gathers a roster of who’s who Bay Area rap stars to spread some holiday cheer in the new track “Player’s Holiday ‘25.” For the revamped song with a Hyphy touch, he grabs G-Eazy, Kamiyah, LaRussell, Larry June, thuy, and YMTK to spread some thizz. The anthem supports the NBA’s upcoming All-Star Weekend in San Francisco. P-Lo partners with the Golden State Warriors to create the star-studded track.

The anthem is from a forthcoming album. David Kelly of Golden State Entertainment chose P-Lo to oversee the album based on his longstanding relationship with the organization. “When we set out to create Golden State Entertainment, we wanted to work with artists who represent Bay Area culture but can also do so on a national and global scale,” Kelly told Billboard. “P-Lo fits that perfectly. He has a massive following in the Bay. He’s a rapper, producer and someone we’ve worked with before. His connections with other artists, like Saweetie, G-Eazy, Larry June and Kamaiyah, allow us to create a project like ‘Players Holiday’ that we can tie into a global platform like the NBA All-Star Game. It’s the perfect match for what we want to do.”

The posse cut is inspired by the 1999 T.W.D.Y. original. The original’s music video features Bay Area legends Too Short, Mac Mall, and E-40 throwing a yacht party to celebrate the fictitious holiday. The track sampled the Bill Withers classic, “Lovely Day.” Larry June delivers the song’s best verse among a group of thizz-tributed lines.

Either way to check cash

I check bags with no check bags

I carry on, the torch I was handed

Highly demanded, a TMZ candid

I work for all that I got, ain’t nothing given

California livin’, stackin’ up dividends

Look out for my siblings: me, Madre, and Padre

I’m slappin’ shawty, chillin’ with my shawty

Larry June Provides Immaculate Vibes On New Album “Doing It For Me”

Larry June is the most relaxed man in hip-hop. He’s inherited the crown from Curren$y, who shares June’s affinity for smoked-out Alchemist production. The thing that distinguishes June, though, is his specificity. The rapper’s verses are packed with references to the Bay Area, designer brands, and the experiences that made him who he is today. Boring topics in the wrong hands, but Larry June has an innate feel for what sounds good. Doing It for Me is a showcase for the rapper to show what he can do without having to rely on others. Like the titular “me” suggests, the album is a solo venture, with zero guest features.

“Magnum P.I.” is the perfect thesis for the album. The production is hazy and nostalgic, while Larry June waxes poetic over his teenage escapades. “Morning Calculations” is even better. Built around a hypnotic vocal sample, the song gives the rapper a chance to reflect on his rise to stardom. The unison of topics and song titles cannot be overstated here. Every track on Doing It for Me sounds like a manifestation of its title. “Stinson Beach” pushes things in a jazzy direction courtesy of flute samples and a chorus that showcases Larry June’s surprisingly decent singing voice. “Breakfast In Gold Coast” is one of the best songs the rapper has ever released. The beat, the bars, and the aesthetic details (the sounds of rain at the very end) compress the June experience into a two and a half minute masterclass. Doing It for Me is really for all of us.

The release date for Larry June‘s new album is imminent. After releasing a string of singles including “Imported Couches,” “Like A Mack,” and “Meet Me In Napa,” Good Job Larry has announced the title and release date for the album they’ll be appearing on. Doing It For Me is set for release on August 9 via Empire Distribution, and will include 15 tracks with no features.

Doing It For Me will be June’s first solo project since 2022’s Spaceships On The Blade, and follows two collaborative projects released in 2023: The Great Escape with The Alchemist, and The Night Shift with Cardo. The former drew a BET Awards nomination for Best New Duo. Meanwhile, Larry’s footprint on the rap business continues to grow thanks to his continued collaboration with The Alchemist on the latter’s Flying High EP and the success of the sold-out Market Run tour.

The last time Uproxx spoke with Larry was in 2022, when he explained his unique approach to atypical rap topics. “I show a different side of the city,” he said. “I’m from Hunter’s Point. I didn’t see too much of the Pier, or the nice avenues. I’ve never been to Alcatraz. I was just biking and sh*t. Now I’m just showing that a person of my color can do different sh*t. And I definitely belong.”

Doing It For Me is due on 8/9 via Empire. You can see the tracklist below.

2. “Magnum P.I.”

Larry June Oozes Confidence From Every Pore On Wavy “Like A Mack”

Larry June can never seem to slow down, but we aren’t complaining when we are getting songs like “Like a Mack”. Since the release of his November 10, 2023 album, The Night Shift, Uncle Larry is seemingly already getting back into album mode. In 2024, the San Francisco, California MC has put out three other singles. Those include “Imported Couches”, “Meet Me In Napa”, and “Dreams”. Larry isn’t one to experiment too often, but he continues to perfect and build upon his signature luxurious, hazy style. That is more of what Larry June is doing lately and on “Like a Mack”. Where this new single differs from its previous threesome is that is more of trap flavor to the instrumental.

Typically, the “Smoothies in 1991” songwriter opts for swanky beats in which the drums play more of a background role. However, “Like a Mack” features them more prominently. Still, though, Larry still brings the West Coast sound to this record which is aided by a nice guitar loop. As per usual, the prolific veteran is extremely self-absorbed, yet charismatic. The tempo of the instrumental is a little faster, but fans on YouTube have pointed out how it sounds good slowed down. We definitely agree with that take, adding more replay ability to an already catchy June tune. With four singles already out in seven months and still about four and a half to go, a new album is probably on the horizon. It is not confirmed, but that is the hope we have because June continues to produce at a high level.

Big Sean Builds Hype For New Album By Teasing Alchemist Collab

Big Sean has been away for a long time. The rapper’s last album was in 2020, and the first single for his upcoming album, “Precision,” got buried by the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle. Fortunately, the buzz is starting to swing back Sean’s way. He delivered a standout verse on the new Eminem single “Tobey.” He also dropped some knowledge on fans about his iconic “Mercy” verse. The most exciting revelation for Big Sean’s new album came on July 12, however. The rapper teased a collaboration with producer icon The Alchemist.

Sean uploaded a snippet of the new song on Instagram. The chatter that we hear sounds like the first couple seconds of the song, with the rapper talking about seizing one’s dreams. “You shouldn’t wait for the world to come to you, you gotta go get this shit, baby,” he says. “Sun shining, breeze and sh*t. Take it all in ’cause one day it could all…” The production is smooth, with a saxophone riff playing prominently throughout. Sean’s caption suggested that the song, which is untitled, might be dropping sooner rather than later. “Guess i gotta go again n show them it ain’t luck…”

Big Sean Sounds Stellar Over Smooth Alc Production

Despite being industry veterans, Big Sean and The Alchemist have only worked together once. Sean dropped a stunning guest verse on the Larry June song “Palisades, CA” in 2023. The track was laced with Alchemist’s flourishes, as was the entire album. “Palisades, CA” was considered by many to be a 2023 standout, so it’s exciting to see two of the three artists on the song reunite. The Alchemist has many different styles as a producer, but the snippet suggests that he gave Big Sean more of the lush instrumentation that he skated on previously. No complaints here.

Both Sean and The Alchemist have ties to Eminem. As mentioned, the former dropped a solid verse on “Tobey.” The Alchemist, meanwhile, claimed he’d been working on The Death of Slim Shady prior to its release. None of Alc’s beats made the final cut, but he’s worked with Eminem on multiple songs over the years. He’s also Eminem’s tour DJ. Hopefully Sean and The Alchemist can keep the Detroit magic going strong.

The Alchemist Reveals Jay-Z Is The Rapper He Wants To Work With Most

The Alchemist is one of the most respected producers in the game. His name is synonymous with quality, whether he’s working with Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, or Larry June. The mere fact that he can work all three of these artists denotes a versatility that few producers can match. That being said, The Alchemist is not content to sit on his laurels. He may already have a Hall of Fame resume, but he talked about his dream collaboration during a recent interview with NFR Podcast.

The Alchemist and Cardo linked up to discuss their career goals, and the former made it very clear who he wants to work with: Jay-Z. Somehow, The Alchemist and Hov have yet to officially work together. This is something the producer wants to remedy as soon as possible. “Jay always been on my list,” he stated. “I been saying it for a hundred years. It’s Jay-Z. I would love to. We linked but I keep the faith.” He made it clear that there’s no ill will between him and Jay. He asserted, though, that he’d only want to collab with the Brooklyn rapper if the desire was mutual.

The Alchemist Has Known Jay-Z For Twenty Years

For The Alchemist, it’s all about respect and creative unity. “At this point, I hope it would be a mutual thing,” he explained. “Like I would want to work with somebody that would wanna work with me. There’s a couple that’s brewing that’s like bucket list sh*t for me that I hope happens. I still have hopes like that.” The closest The Alchemist and Jay-Z got to working together was on the 2020 Jay Electronica album, A Written Testimony. The Alchemist produced the song “The Neverending Story,” which Jay-Z eventually spit a verse on.

The Alchemist and Jay-Z have actually known each other for decades. They first met in New York in the early 2000s, which the producer recalled during a For the Record interview. “[Jay] leaned in my ear and was like, ‘Yo when you gonna stop wasting them beats?,’” he stated. Jay-Z was responsible for getting The Alchemist and Beanie Sigel in the studio together, and he even got a chance to hear the producer’s breakout beat, “We Gonna Make It.” The Alchemist claimed that Jay actually passed on the beat before it went to Jadakiss. Hopefully the producer gets his collab sooner than later.

JasonMartin And DJ Quik Make Magic On New Album “CHUPACABRA”

JasonMartin and DJ Quik are as Cali as it gets. They may come from different generations, but they shared a love for G-funk and smooth, feel-good music to play in the car. It doesn’t hurt that Quik is a literal G-funk pioneer. A good match on paper doesn’t always meet the results live up to the hype, but JasonMartin and DJ Quik arguably surpass expectations. They create an album that feels familiar and smooth, while at the same time distinct from their solo material. CHUPACABRA might be one of the top West Coast albums of 2024.

Part of the reason CHUPACABRA is so listenable is the musicality. The music is funky, unpredictable, and more experimental than one might expect. “CHUPA’S GROOVE” is a perfect example. It’s an instrumental passage with a bubbly bassline from Thundercat. It transcends rap conventions, yet feels right at home next to verses from Larry June and Bun B. The latter sounds excellent over the synth-heavy “Since I Was Lil.” There are too many guest verses to sift through here, but rest assured that everybody brings their A-game on CHUPACABRA. Ab-Soul is head-spinningly cool on “SOUL CIRCUS”, and CeeLo brings the grit of a classic soul sample on “DITTO.” Try to find a flaw on CHUPACABRA, and you’ll be looking for a long time.

Let us know what you think of this brand-new track, in the comments section down below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.
