SOUCE SPORTS: NBA Superstar LaMelo Ball x PUMA Join Forces to Release LaFrancé Lifestyle Sneaker

PUMA Hoops and basketball superstar LaMelo Ball are unveiling their first-ever co-designed lifestyle shoe – LaFrancé.

Created through intimate collaboration between LaMelo Ball and the PUMA design team, the LaFrancé gets its inspiration and name from LaMelo’s namesake lifestyle brand, which fuses different inspirations from streetwear fashion, sport and lifestyle.

The LaFrancé silhouette represents a new take on Melo – an elevated, chunky street inspired take to off-court fashion fueled by his fierce flare and energy. An off-court icon, LaFrancé boasts an all-red fiery upper and chunky silhouette, the “Amour” colorway is a nod to the overstated aesthetics of Y2K skate culture; and is just the first of many LaFrancé colorways to come. LaFrancé will be accompanied by a few apparel pieces, including graphic tees, a mesh tank, short, and track pants, ranging from $40-$110.

Getting real on the shoe design, Noah Bice (PUMA Hoops Designer of LaFrancé) said, “If you know Melo, you know he does everything large. From the chain to the logos, to the car, dude’s living large! So, we had to come through with a silhouette to fit that profile. The skate inspired, chunky upper and cup sole felt like the obvious sweet spot for Melo’s first lifestyle shoe.”

Dropping on May 17, 2024, LaFrancé and accompanying pieces will be available at PUMA.com, the PUMA mobile app, the PUMA NYC Flagship store and at Foot Locker, Kids Foot Locker, Champs and select retailers worldwide.

JJ Redick To Interview For Charlotte Hornets Head Coaching Position

Retired NBA player, current NBA analyst, and podcaster JJ Redick is being looked at for a head coaching opportunity. The Charlotte Hornets are set to interview Redick for their vacant head coaching position. Steve Clifford stepped down as the Hornets coach, moving to a front-office position with the franchise. The Hornets are reportedly very interested in JJ Redick, and the interest might be mutual. Franchises have looked at JJ before as a potential coach, but this might be the gig that gets him on the sideline.

Redick was an incredible sharpshooter and role player. He was drafted by the Orlando Magic in 2006 after starring at Duke University. The sharpshooter played 6-seasons with the Magic. Additionally, he spent 4-seasons on the Los Angeles Clippers, playing with Blake Griffin and Chris Paul during the Lob City era. Finally, after a stint on the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Orleans Pelicans, Redick retired from Basketball. He became an NBA analyst, becoming an extremely popular voice in the NBA media from appearances on ESPN. He recently started a basketball podcast with Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James.

JJ Redick Getting Head Coaching Interest

The Charlotte Hornets are interviewing JJ Redick for their head coaching job, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. The 15-year NBA veteran and former Duke star has shown an interest in making a coaching jump in recent years.

JJ Redick was a 15-year NBA vet and is an extremely smart basketball mind. He doesn’t have any coaching experience at the professional level. Additionally, the move to NBA coaching would be a risk for both Redick and the franchise. Former players usually have to serve under established head coaches as assistants and get their opportunities that way. JJ would be jumping straight to the head position without any of the groundwork. Nevertheless, The Charlotte Hornets may be looking for a younger coach who’s experienced with today’s players to turn around their young roster. JJ might be that guy.

This season, the Hornets finished 13th in the Eastern Conference. They were one of the youngest teams in the league and generally played to their age. They are led by point guard LaMelo Ball, who has dealt with injuries all season but is at showtime when he is on the court. Additionally, the Hornets also drafted a promising rookie, Brandon Miller, who looks like he has star potential. It isn’t a dire situation, but it is one that needs a lot of work. Drake’s ties to the NBA and the sports world in general is very strong. The players adore him, and he loves to attend the biggest games. He was there for the incredible and improbable 2019 championship run his hometown Raptors went on. Drizzy’s passion for basketball is so strong that he is getting his son Adonis into it. They have been courtside together and he is even getting involved in playing as much as possible. Over the past couple of years, Adonis has taken a liking to certain players in the NBA, and one of them is LaMelo Ball.

According to Bleacher Report, Drake’s son drew a picture of the Charlotte Hornets star point guard. LaMelo saw it and he wound up gifting him a pair of his signature PUMA basketball kicks. The reaction can be found below and it is straight up adorable seeing Adonis so excited. With that connection being forged since last year, the two finally got to meet each other in person this past weekend.

The Hornets had to travel to Toronto last night, so it was the perfect opportunity. Adonis and a friend of his got to meet LaMelo in the locker room and the injured franchise player had a special gift for him. It was a signed jersey with a message written on the back. It said, “Go be great gang!! 1 of 1 rare not from here.” Unfortunately, Ball did not have a special surprise for Adonis’ buddy and that left some fans feeling a little disappointed. On person writes, “Other kid ain’t get s*** that’s crazy.” Another adds, “That’s kinda messed up tho. That kid is not gonna understand but that’s gotta hurt. If you cannot give to both don’t give them both nothing. Don’t do that.”

LaMelo Ball & PUMA Sued By Big Baller Brand Co-Founder

LaMelo Ball, along with his family and sneaker giant PUMA, have been sued by Alan Foster, the co-founder of Big Baller Brand. Foster claims that he was integral to the early success of the Ball Family sneaker brand and lost out on millions of dollars when patriarch LaVar ousted Foster by creating a new BBB entity. Amongst his claims, Foster alleges to have been the mastermind, and trademark owner, for LaMelo’s first signature show, the MB1. Furthermore, Foster named PUMA in the suit, stating that the MB.01 shoe the company developed for LaMelo infringed on his trademark.

“LaMelo was instrumental in creating his first signature shoe with Big Baller Brand. He was fully aware of the existence of the LaMelo Trademarks — he helped design them. He knew that his Big Baller Brand signature shoe was called the ‘MB1’ and that the name was protected by federal trademark. Yet, despite his knowledge of all of this, LaMelo willfully and deliberately chose to name the signature shoe he created and designed with PUMA the ‘MB1’ in violation of the LaMelo Trademarks,” Foster wrote in the suit. He is reportedly seeking $200 million in damages. Furthermore, Foster has previously sued, and been sued by, the Ball family.

Away from the courtroom, LaMelo is enjoying a solid start to the 2023/24 NBA season. Through seven games, he is averaging 19.6 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists. Furthermore, he has put up at least 30 points in back-to-back games in recent losses against Dallas and Washington. Currently, Terry Rozier leads the Hornets in scoring while new starting center Mark Williams, who won the job over Kai Jones, is the top rebounding. Vaunted rookie Brandon Miller is yet to earn a starting role, coming off the bench in five of his seven appearances.

However, the Hornets are still firmly a team in the midst of a rebuild. Charlotte is 2-5, having picked up a shock season-opening win over the Hawks as well as a one-point win over the Pacers. Their most recent game was a thorough rout at the hands of the Wizards, losing 132-116. Despite this, the season is less than ten games old. Furthermore, Charlotte’s division is surprisingly competitive. The Hawks are 4-3 leaders. Meanwhile, last year’s NBA Finals participants Miami are 4-4. If the Charlotte can build off LaMelo’s strong start, they could be a fringe play-in team.

Lonzo Ball & LaMelo Ball Show Off New Big Baller Brand Shoe

Lonzo Ball and LaMelo Ball are two brothers who have had a chokehold on NBA discourse. Overall, Lonzo was the first to make it to the league, while LaMelo was technically the second. Although LiAngelo tried to make it, he wasn’t able to reach that next level in the end. That said, things have gone sour for Lonzo due to his knee injury. Things have not progressed for him, and he is staring down a second full season missed. As for LaMelo, he wants to finally make the playoffs in Charlotte.

Meanwhile, their father LaVar has tried to continue the Big Baller Brand legacy. Overall, this is a brand that has suffered a bit in the past. It is not as big as it once was, and they have had to deal with some fallingouts. However, LaVar is looking to make it bigger than ever. He is coming through with an array of new products, and fans continue to show love. In fact, it seems as though his sons are helping him relaunch the brand, even if they already have endorsement deals of their own.
