Today, GRAMMY-nominated recording artist GloRilla (CMG/Interscope Records) gets in the holiday spirits by releasing “Xmas Time” with Kehlani. Directed by Maxx and Madison, the live performance collaboration is festive, as Kehlani delivers a warm message of togetherness on the hook. At the same time, Big Glo’s playful quips and grateful attitude bring the joyous track together while performing under a blanket of snow.

“Happy Holidays to you and all your relations / and happy holidays to all our folks who couldn’t make it / I went to the North Pole to cop these bracelets / I got ice for ages, may your Christmas be amazing,” raps Glo. The warmth melts midtrack when a booming beat switch takes over the record, allowing Glo to flaunt her grizzled flow. “Certified trick, I get it from my dad,” she exclaims, again proving why her versatility is second to none.

Billboard crowned Big Glo this month as the Hottest Female Rapper of 2024. That win arrives shortly after she also was named AP’s Breakthrough Artist of 2024. Glo’s ascension into superstardom includes GLORIOUS debuting at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and securing the highest debut week for a female rapper, numerous Hot 100 wins, including “Yeah Glo!,” “TGIF” and “Wanna Be” featuring Megan Thee Stallion and “WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME” featuring Sexyy Redd. Glo also landed two Grammy nominations for her double platinum single “Yeah Glo!” in the Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance categories, solidifying her stellar run this year. Most recently, she also earned the second Billboard Hot 100 top 10 song of her career as a feature on Tyler, The Creator’s “Sticky.”

GLORIOUS remains the talk of many year-end conversations for best albums, including mentions for Rolling Stone, NPR, Billboard, Rap-UpUPROXX, and more. “TGIF” landed on best singles lists for Vulture, Time, Pitchfork, New York Times, and Rolling Stone, while “Yeah Glo!” “Wanna Be (Remix),” and WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME also made the New York Times Best Songs List. TIME also named “TGIF” the number one song of 2024. Glo covered Rolling Stone’s Musician on Musician cover with Busta Rhymes. She also popped out as a surprise guest for TDE’s Christmas Concert & Toy Drive.

After releasing two seminal projects this year, including Ehhthang Ehhthang and her debut album GLORIOUS, Glo has more than proven that she’s a surefire rap superstar who can release hit records at a prolific clip.

GloRilla Puts A Memphis Spin On Holiday Music With Kehlani-Assisted “Xmas Time”

GloRilla has received a lot of gifts in the form of nominations, awards, and plaques in 2024. She sort of acknowledges that fact on her new song, “Xmas Time.” “And I might’ve had a Christmas that I ain’t get a thing that was on my wish list / I celebrated still because I knew that I was gifted / (Put that on the gang) / I’m just one of God’s children.” This is the Memphis MC’s first crack at making a holiday-themed track and it’s got an interesting twist in its second half. Kehlani, a first-time collaborator, is also on here, and provides a sweet and thoughtful chorus.

It’s part of the reason why part two is so off the wall. With frequent producers like Ace Charisma and Yo Gotti on here, it definitely raised some questions as to where this song might go. Well, it turns out that it becomes a Memphis trap Christmas banger. Bells and piano keys accent the dirty bass and kick drums synonymous with the city’s hip-hop roots as Big Glo gets a little more PG-13 compared to its PG first half. While it’s a bit of a mish-mosh of tones and sounds, it’s got some great messages and personal touches that give it that Christmas spirit. GloRilla And Kehlani Spread Their Turnt-Up Holiday Cheer On The Festive Song ‘Xmas Time’

All year GloRilla has gifted fans to undeniable club bangers. While her debut studio album (Glorious) still keeps supporters in a chokehold, the “I Luv Her” rapper cooked up something special for the holidays.

Today (December 13), GloRilla put her Christmas spirit spirit on full display with the festive track “Xmas Time.” To complete the holiday cheer mission, GloRilla recruited Kehlani to hold down the song’s melody.

“Maybe it’s all I need / Moments like this with my family / Nothing compares to how it feels, Christmas time / I remember those days when the nights got cold / Leaning on each other made our hearts grow more / Nothing compares to the love at Christmas time,” sings Kehlani.

GloRilla used her verses to reflex on her holiday seasons before fame and fortune, rapping: “And I might’ve had a Christmas that I ain’t get a thing that was on my wish list / I celebrated still because I knew that I was gifted / I’m just one of God’s children / So I be givin’ every chance I get / I’m in the spirit, I remember when it wasn’t that / My eyes were teary, but we still made good of what we had / That’s perseverance / I’m so blessed for having my mom and dad, they birthed a baddie.”

With the year coming to a close, GloRilla sure has a lot to be thankful for.

Kehlani Speaks Out Amid Heated Custody Battle with Javaughn Young-White

Recording artist Kehlani has found herself in the midst of a highly publicized custody dispute with her ex-partner, guitarist Javaughn Young-White. The battle, which has spanned several months, has become increasingly contentious, with allegations and accusations surfacing on both sides.

Three months ago, Kehlani was granted temporary sole custody of her five-year-old daughter and obtained a restraining order against Young-White, citing allegations of abuse. Court documents reveal that Kehlani accused Young-White of creating an unsafe environment for their child and exhibiting volatile behavior. In one incident, she alleged that he became enraged and smashed through her locked bedroom doors. Young-White, for his part, has denied the allegations, claiming that Kehlani is the abusive one and that he severed contact with her due to her behavior.

Allegations Spark Public Scrutiny

The dispute took a dramatic turn this week when private text messages between Kehlani and Young-White were leaked online. Among the most controversial revelations was a message in which Kehlani recounted a tarot reader’s claim that her daughter had been her “wife” in a past life. While Kehlani insists the exchange was meant to be lighthearted and not taken seriously, critics online labeled the remark “inappropriate,” fueling public speculation and scrutiny.

Kehlani responded on Wednesday (Nov. 13) in a statement addressing the backlash. She vehemently denied any wrongdoing and accused Young-White of manipulating the texts to tarnish her reputation.

“To have those screenshots then doctored, the rest of messages left out, to make me seem like I consider myself to be in an inappropriate relationship with my DAUGHTER… is the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever f**king heard,” she wrote on social media.

She added that the allegations crossed a line, emphasizing her deep love and respect for her child. “THIS is where I absolutely draw the line… I do NOT, and have NEVER, considered myself in any sort of inappropriate relationship with my child.”

A Longstanding Battle

This week’s developments are just the latest in a months-long feud. In court filings from earlier this year, Kehlani claimed Young-White called her derogatory names and accused her of “trapping him.” Additionally, she alleged that he was preventing their daughter from attending kindergarten and spreading claims that she is part of a cult.

The ongoing legal battle has been emotionally taxing for both parties, with Kehlani describing the situation as “heartbreaking.” As tensions continue to escalate, she has stated that she plans to address the allegations through the courts, rather than through public discourse.

Kehlani Clarifies Remarks About Her Child Being “Her Wife” In A Past Life

Kehlani came under fire, and understandably so, on November 13. The singer was accused of making discomforting comments about her daughter in court documents filed by her ex. She allegedly stated that her daughter was actually her “wife” in a past life, which led to widespread concern over whether Kehlani was engaged in an inappropriate relationship with her daughter. The singer decided to take to Instagram Wednesday evening to set the record straight.

Kehlani posted a lengthy, multi-part message on Instagram. She acknowledged the rumors that have been swirling about her role as a parent. She made it very clear that she not take the comment about her daughter previously being “her wife” seriously. The singer explained that the concept came from a past life reading she had done, and found the comment regarding her daughter to be humorous. “I shared what I considered to be a lighthearted recap with my child’s father,” she asserted. “Laughing at it and considering it something light and not to be taken serious.”

Kehlani Is “Heartbroken” By Her Ex’s Allegation

Kehlani then accused her ex of taking their conversation out of context and framing it the worst light possible. She stated unequivocally that she has never been inappropriate with her daughter, who is five. “To make me seem like I consider myself to be in an inappropriate relationship with my daughter,” she singer wrote. “Is the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever f*cking heard.” The singer broadened the scope of her frustrations, and noted that she has been hit with numerous accusations in court over the last few months. The implication that she has been an abusive mother, however, proved to be a step too far.

“This is where I absolutely draw the line,” Kehlani announced. “The rest of these absolutely monstrous allegations are being addressed in court. The singer also included screenshots of the text conversation from which the allegations originated. To Kehlani’s point, the conversation between her and her ex does have a tone that is more playful than troubling. “She was my wife once lol,” the singer wrote. “All these people prolly be lying lmao.” The custody battle between Kehlani and her ex are ongoing.

Kehlani Delivers Breezy & Summery R&B Vibes For “While We Wait 2”

Kehlani has their die-hard fans jumping for joy this week because they now have While We Wait 2. If this title looks familiar to those not totally in the know, it’s because they have While We Wait in their discography. That was their third mixtape, and it hit DSPs back in 2019. Kehlani didn’t have a major rollout for this second project of 2024, as they hinted at it on their Instagram just about a week ago. There are actually a couple of reasons as to why this wasn’t being teased that long.

For starters, Kehlani delivered their fourth album CRASH back in late June. Secondly, the alternative R&B veteran announced the North American leg of their CRASH World Tour about five weeks prior to WWW2. It’s also worth mentioning they will be hitting the road on September 4. Finally, Kehlani said themselves that this project was completed in a blistering time frame. In a recent Instagram post they wrote, “We made this tape in my back house in two weeks with all people I really dearly love… It was a breezy process and nobody thought hard. Just some feelings in 90 degree weather.” You can definitely hear that in the performances and instrumentals in a good way. Kehlani sounds carefree and chill on this mixtape, making this just as blissful for the listener.

Kehlani & Lucky Daye Team Up For Sleazy Ballad “When He’s Not There”

Kehlani and Lucky Daye are looking to weasel their way into some relationships hanging in the balance on “When He’s Not There”. This a brand-new single from the Oakland, California R&B/pop act and it’s here in rapid succession. It’s following up on their fourth studio album CRASH, perhaps the artist’s most ambitious and diverse tracklist to date. The project had soundscapes from the likes of R&B, pop, alternative, country, Afropop, and more. However, it seems that Kehlani is not done dropping albums, because “When He’s Not There” is kicking off roll out number two.

It’s leading the way for a sequel to her 2019, nine-song mixtape, While We Wait. If you need help remembering, it features the hit song with Ty Dolla $ign, “Nights Like This”. While We Wait 2 was essentially announced today and we already have a lot of details on it. It will feature a beefier set of songs with 14 and it will be out on Wednesday, August 28. Mid-week releases aren’t very common, but we can make an excuse for Kehlani. As we mentioned at the top, “When He’s Not There” is a pretty sly track, as both powerful singers try to play homewrecker when they can. This is now the second time them and Lucky Daye have collaborated.

Kehlani Just Surprise-Announced ‘While We Wait 2’ And The Project Will Arrive In A Matter Of Days

It’s Kehlani time, as the artist just released their latest album, Crash, back in June. In case that project was somehow starting to feel a little stale already, though, Kehlani has your back: They just announced While We Wait 2, a new project that’s apparently a sequel to the 2019 mixtape While We Wait.

Kehlani shared the cover art on Instagram today (here), along with the quickly approaching release date: August 28.

As fans know, the original While We Wait mixtape is a highlight of Kehlani’s discography. It was their second project to hit the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart, and it spawned the Ty Dolla sign collaboration “Nights Like This,” which is currently Kehlani’s most-streamed song on Spotify with a hair under 600 million plays as of this post.

Meanwhile, last month, Kehlani announced the Crash World Tour, which kicks off in September, days after the release of While We Wait 2, and it will feature support from FLO and Anycia.

As for what else Kehlani has been up to in recent days, they just performed a terrific Tiny Desk Concert a few weeks ago. They also spoke up about their sexuality, saying, “I don’t know why there’s this inability to fathom that I’m a raging lesbian.”
