Spring is coming up, with the first official day of the new season being March 19. That means summer is coming, which means festival season is near. In recent months, fests have been unveiling their lineups, and we have another one today (February 20): Baja Beach Fest.
The 2024 edition of the annual event is set to go down from August 9 to 11 in Rosarito Beach, Mexico (which is barely across the border and just over a three-hour drive from Los Angeles, for reference). Headlining the three-day, 18-plus, reggaeton- and Latin-focused fest are Rauw Alejandro, Peso Pluma, Fuerza Regida, and Kali Uchis. Becky G, Yandel, Mora, Jhayco, Sech, Latin Mafia, Xavi, Jowell Y Randy, De La Ghetto, Alvaro Diaz, Snow The Product, and more.
When it comes to passes, prospective attendees can currently join a waitlist via the Baja Beach Fest website. Their are four tiers of three-day pass: 3-Day GA at $459, 3-Day GA+ at $629, 3-Day VIP at $959, and 3-Day La Playa at $2,059, with no hidden fees attached to any of those prices.
The beachside fest has a lot to offer beyond the music as a press release notes, “During the festival, the town comes alive with merchants, surfing, ATV riding, horseback riding, and other beach activities, street food, and more, creating a party atmosphere that extends for blocks in either direction.”

Kali Uchis — Orquídeas

Kali Uchis had a huge January: Not only did she reveal that she’s pregnant, but she also dropped a terrific new album, Orquídeas. She’s released it in a few vinyl variants, too, including standard black, milky clear vinyl (pictured above), and a picture disc.
Scottish ethereal rockers Cocteau Twins wrapped up their esteemed run with two final albums, Four-Calendar Café in 1993 and Milk & Kisses in 1996. Now, these two albums have gotten a new vinyl release that’s significant for American fans of the group, as this is the first time these two albums have been released on vinyl in the US.
Coleman is literally the father of free jazz: the term itself comes from his 1961 album Free Jazz: A Collective Improvisation. A year before that project, though, he dropped Change Of The Century, which is the subject of a new Rhino Hi-Fi reissue. This edition was given a detailed manufacturing treatment, so the album sounds as good as it ever has, and most relevantly, it’s limited to just 5,000 individually number copies.
Uproxx’s Steven Hyden wrote of the new album from the Radiohead offshoot, “Thom and Jonny’s forthcoming sophomore effort isn’t as groovy as the first. On A Light For Attracting Attention, they strutted like a British art-rock redux of Booker T. And The MG’s, with Thom and Jonny clearly vibing on Tom Skinner’s relentless syncopations. Wall Of Eyes is rockier and, well, more Radiohead-esque.”
Tune-Yards — I’m A Virgo — Prime Video Original Series Soundtrack

If you watched the Prime Video series I’m A Virgo from the great Boots Riley and found yourself liking the music, that’s not surprising since it came courtesy of Tune-Yards. A vinyl release of the soundtrack was announced today and will be available on April 5 via Lakeshore Records. It comes pressed on lovely limited-edition yellow vinyl and accompanied by a color insert.
It’s been five years since Maggie Rogers broke out with her well-received debut album, Heart It In A Past Life. To mark the occasion, this new anniversary reissue comes with the album pressed on cobalt vinyl, a “Love You For A Long Time” 7-inch, and a 12-inch by 20-inch poster.
M. Ward — Duet for Guitars #2 (Reissue) and Transfiguration Of Vincent (Reissue)

Duet For Guitars No. 2 was M. Ward’s first album, while Transfiguration Of Vincent was his first with Merge Records. Now, the label has pressed both of those albums onto vinyl for the first time, making these editions must-haves for Ward completionists.

Spiritualized — Amazing Grace (20 Year Anniversary Edition)

As the title suggests, Spiritualized folded a profound gospel influence into the mix of Amazing Grace. Now, it’s the latest album to get remastered as part of The Spaceman Reissue Program: Curated by J Spaceman. This edition comes in a standard black vinyl pressing and a limited dove grey vinyl.
Fleetwood Mac — Fleetwood Mac (Vinyl Me, Please Reissue)

Fleetwood Mac has been consistently popular for decades, but they had a big revival in 2020 when “Dreams” went viral online. Well, for new fans who listened to Rumours and dug it, the album that preceded it, 1975’s Fleetwood Mac, is one of the Vinyl Me, Please albums of the month, pressed on 180g Black & White Quad vinyl.
Kid Cudi had one of the year’s first major hip-hop releases with Insano. Just like he went hard on the album, he also went all in on the vinyl, as he has a few different cover art options for different editions. (He even had some signed LPs, but those are currently sold out.)

May-June 2021: Don Toliver And Kali Uchis Appear Together In Two Music Videos
“What You Need,” the lead single from Toliver’s sophomore album, was released on May 4, 2021. A music video for the song dropped on the same day, and Kali Uchis had a surprise appearance in it. While she only made a cameo, the video fueled the rumored romance among their respective fanbases. Then, on June 18, 2021, Don Toliver released “Drugs N Hella Melodies,” the second single from his Life Of A Don album. Featuring Kali Uchis, the song was accompanied by a sexy music video, in which the two appeared as lovers. Much to the delight of viewers, the duo’s effortless musical chemistry successfully translated on-screen. However, even though the visuals were suggestive of a relationship, nothing was confirmed at the time. Nevertheless, fans further speculated that the two were romantically involved.
July 2021: Don Toliver Publicly Confirms Their Relationship
While fans’ speculations are often advised to be disregarded, it turns out that they hit the jackpot with Toliver and Uchis. Just a month after the “Drugs N Hella Melodies” music video dropped, the rapper confirmed that he was indeed in a relationship with Uchis. Speaking to Maxine Wally of W Magazine, he said, “We’re not crazy public or nothing like that. We just vibe.” When asked about when he and Uchis met, Toliver refused to spill that tea. Regardless, he had revealed enough to confirm that the rumors were true, and that was good enough for most fans.
After Toliver announced their relationship in 2021, the couple began to make more public appearances together. They also spoke about each other in interviews and made things Instagram official. For example, on Toliver’s birthday in 2022, the singer celebrated her man with a sweet Instagram post. “I thank God for the day your love came into my life,” she wrote about Toliver in the caption.
2023: The Couple Continues To Love Up On Each Other
On March 3, 2023, Kali Uchis’ third album, Red Moon In Venus, was released. The 15-track project contains “Fantasy” featuring Toliver, a love song that addresses their relationship. In addition, when Don Toliver appeared on The Breakfast Club on March 3, 2023, he also shared that he’s never been as invested and present in a relationship as he is with Uchis.

Less than two weeks into 2024, Kali Uchis and Ton Toliver made the big announcement. While there had been rumors flying about Uchis being pregnant, neither she nor Toliver had addressed the subject. However, on January 11, 2024, via Instagram, the couple revealed that their baby would be arriving soon. Uchis captioned the 30-second video she posted on Instagram, “Starting our family. Don’t take too long to get here little pooks, mom & dad can’t wait to share our life with you.”

Elsewhere on our R&B Season update, we also shouted out the newest offering from Jhené Aiko, “Sun/Son.” It’s a vocally wondrous cut with a lot of layered harmonies, syncopated chants, and comfortingly warm piano and synth keys that will calm you down. Complimenting this all is a sultry and steady drum beat with crisp rimshots that sit comfortably in the back of the mix. However, the name of the game is the Chilombo star’s captivating performance, as she fills in the empty spaces of this song with a lot of passion and with dynamic range.
Meanwhile, another highlight on R&B Season this week comes courtesy of The Book Of Clarence‘s soundtrack, on which the film’s director Jeymes Samuel worked extensively. Furthermore, he and Jorja Smith crafted another impassioned, orchestral, and grand piece with “Champagne,” soulfully bringing a slow funkiness to the collection. Another standouvt drama-tinged anthem is “best thing for me” by Samaria, which brings the tempo even further down. It’s a great mix of a traditional smooth R&B swing with soaring guitars, a high-pitched vocal display with plenty of personality, and whimsical chimes.
Last but not least, Ariana Grande is officially and finally back with her ’80s and dance-inspired single, “yes, and?” After resolving some relationship drama in 2023, we can’t wait to see what the pop darling brings this year.
