Chance the Rapper drops a new single “Bad Boys II,” featuring fellow Chicago artist Joey Purp. The single drops alongside a vibrant music video that perfectly captures the essence of summer and nods to the beloved Bad Boys films franchise, starring Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, echoing the same dynamic of fearless camaraderie and bold attitude.

Chance and Purp take to the streets of Chicago in a sleek convertible, the top down as they cruise through the city under the sun. With Chance behind the wheel, the two exude a carefree and confident energy. The video reflects the song’s upbeat vibes, highlighting the duo’s swag as they deliver their verses with effortless cool.

This past weekend, Chance the Rapper performed live for a packed audience at the Citi Summer Concert Series on TODAY. Live from Rockefeller Plaza, Chance treated his fans to a 4-song performance that included “Together,” “YAH Know,” “Stars Out” –– newer singles from his Star Line project –– and 2014’s hit “Sunday Candy.”

Chance The Rapper Goes On Rhyming Spree On Joey Purp Link-Up “Bad Boys 2”

A couple of days ago, Chicago rap superstar Chance the Rapper had some things he needed to get off his chest. Specifically, in relation to his forthcoming “album”, Star Line. We say “album” because he doesn’t find it respectful of his fans to keep asking him to “drop the album”. In fact, he finds it incredibly confusing and if they keeping asking for the project in this manner, he may shelve Star Line for good. “Stop calling it the album. And I don’t mean that in an ungrateful way. I’m grateful that people are putting in my comments, ‘Drop the album’. I’m not going to drop the album until y’all start calling it Star Line“.

He is asking for this favor because he sees this record as something more than just another LP. “But what I’m doing is something different. It’s something very specific. It’s called Star Line“. All of this and more was conveyed via an Instagram Live. However, just 48 hours later, Chance the Rapper is back with a supposed track from Star Line called “Bad Boys 2”. Him and Joey Purp collab here, and you can tell that the Acid Rap MC was having a fun time writing playful bars and multiple rhyme schemes for his verse. If you check out the music video below, you’ll catch some hints of the Bad Boys movie franchise as well.

“Bad Boys 2” – Chance The Rapper & Joey Purp

Quotable Lyrics:

All my favorite hoodies at a bad b**** condo
But I know this Nina got my back like I’m Rondo
Sittin’ on my lap, while I’m slidin’ through Chicago
Now we drive the boat, but when we came here, we was cargo
A wise man told me me “Follow anywhere the star go”
So I’m in that double R, it’s blacker than some charcoal

Chance The Rapper And Joey Purp’s ‘Bad Boys 2’ Video Takes A Few Glamorous Pages Out Of The Cult Classic Film

Chance The Rapper seems to being teetering on his plans to withhold his project Star Line. After threatening to shelve the highly anticipated mixtape, a new single from the body of work has been released.

Today (August 16), Chance The Rapper dropped his official self-directed video for single, “Bad Boys 2.” On the track, Chance reconnected with his SaveMoney collaborator, Joey Purp.

As the duo boards the Star Line yacht, they sail around the open seas to flex the high life. The boasting continues as they cruise through the city in luxury cars. Chance drives home the cult classic film reference when he raps: “N****s they be cappin’ like they captain, I’m the capo / And I steer the ship, this shit go anywhere that I go / And I got the city on my shoulder like Lago / We in Miami like Martin and Will / She tryna get her a part in the film / Love it in Florida, but want California.”

Although the official release date for Star Line has yet to be determined, at least Chance The Rapper fans have another track to enjoy as they standby.

In an interview with BET, Chance The Rapper addressed the extended wait for Star Line. “I don’t have to rush to put anything and that gives me the confidence and security knowing that it’s cool to wait until I have everything packaged,” he said. “Then, I’ve fallen in love with it over and over again before I release it.”

Chance The Rapper Shares ‘Bag Boy,’ His Crew SaveMoney’s First Single In Eight Years

Back in the late stages of the so-called “blog rap” era, just before streaming services became a thing in earnest and Billboard began counting streams as album-equivalent units, rap crews had proliferated all over the country, encompassing such loose confederations as the ASAP Mob, Raider Klan, and SaveMoney, the Chicago-based clique that included future superstars like Chance The Rapper and Vic Mensa in their numbers.

Since then, many of these groups have dispersed or been sublimated into the increasingly fragmented tapestry of the post-streaming landscape, and more than a few have been forgotten about. However, at least one, SaveMoney, is looking to make a comeback, backed by one of their most successful members, Chance The Rapper, who shared the group’s first single under the SaveMoney banner in nearly eight years, “Bag Boy.”

Featuring group members Joey Purp and Kami along with guest artist DEXLVL, the new track is a laid-back, guitar-driven slow-burner Chance tweeted out with the cryptic message, “And it begins,” suggesting that there may well be more coming — something Chance, Kami, and Joey even teased in 2018, though nothing came of it then. And while both Joey Purp and Kami have collaborated a few times over the years, he hasn’t often tagged the SaveMoney Twitter account (which retweeted his message), which could mean that the group is planning a larger reunion now that Chance and Vic are back on good terms, too. Check out Chance’s tweet below and stream the new track here.
