Jacquees Bonds Out of Georgia Jail for Just $40 Following Arrest, Makes it to Arizona for Performance

R&B star Jacquees has had quite an eventful weekend….and the weekend isn’t even over yet. In less than 72 hours, the artist has gotten in some sort of physical altercation, been arrested, taken to jail, released from jail, and still made a cross-country flight for a performance.

The 29-year-old artist, born Rodriquez Jacquees Broadnax, was arrested in Gwinnett County, Georgia on Friday night. According to records, he was charged with a misdemeanor charge of simple battery plus a misdemeanor of willful obstruction of law enforcement officers. He was booked into the jail at 1:26 AM and posted bond just a few hours later at 8:46 AM. His bond amount was set at $3,700, which meant that he was able to put down just $40 to secure his release.

His mugshot, which began trending on Twitter on Saturday, shows the artist with a somewhat swollen and bruised face, likely indicating a fight of some sort took place. (There are no reports that he received medical care while he was detained.) Following his release, he posted several photos which show that the swelling appears to have significantly subsided.

He also quickly hopped on a plane to Phoenix, Arizona for his performance and after-party. The rest of his Instagram story from the rest of the weekend highlights clips of his shows as well as promoting his upcoming Sincerely For You international tour which will kick off in Amsterdam on July 15.

Hopefully he finds time to rest this week.

In the time since making it out of Gwinnett County, Jacquees has been active on Instagram and even made it over to Phoenix, Arizona for his performance and after-party. He may be getting trolled over his significantly altered appearance in his mugshot, but still, the 29-year-old definitely proved his dedication to his craft.

Thankfully, Jacquees has a few weeks to recover from the incident before heading overseas on the Sincerely For You International Tour. He’ll be kicking things off in Amsterdam on July 15 and will eventually make his way down under to Australia later on in the month.

Jacquees Calls Fan “Ungrateful”

Within recent years, R&B singer Jacquees has received criticism for his style of singing in comparison to others of the genre. In 2019, a video of him singing in a car went viral after fans noticed the way he repeated a specific note. this video created numerous memes throughout the years as Jacquees has yet to escape mentions of the video. On Saturday, a fan of Jacquees took the moment to add to the constantly resurfacing clip. “Jacquees ain’t been Eeee eeing on no songs lately,” he said. Additionally, he posted the original video causing a thread of Twitter users to respond with laughter. However, Jacquees was not here for the remarks made by the fan. “Y’all ni**as ungrateful,” he said in response to the fan. It is unclear whether the tweet was serious or a more light-hearted response.

Evidently, Jacquees has been amused by his own meme continuously going viral. Last year, R&B powerhouse, Tamar Braxton made an attempt to hit the infamous note. The post read “@tonibraxton has been laughing at me cause I’ve been trying to get this run for about an hour. Can’t nobody do a @jacquees run. That’s why I enjoy him so much.” He took to her comment section declaring his love for the Braxton sisters. “I love y’all, it ain’t EEEeeeeASY! Lol,” he said with several crying laughing emojis. This also created its own challenge on social media.

Jacquees Response To Fan

Moreover, his success has also led him to sing the national anthem for the Los Angeles Lakers game. His arrangement of the anthem went viral as fans both praised and criticized his vocals. Traditionally, he released a studio version of the song calling it “Land Of The Free” featuring 2-Chainz to streaming platforms. He has become no stranger to releasing his own renditions of successful songs within the industry. Last week he released his latest cover of “ICU” by Coco Jones.

Furthermore, his latest EP, Sincerely For You, was released last December. The project was produced by Atlanta rap legend Future. It also included more star-studded collaborations from Summer Walker,6lack, Dreezy, and Gospel powerhouse John P. Kee.

Jacquees Ready To Perform in Support of Black Businesses

Jacquees

Atlanta crooner Jacquees is excited about what he has in store this weekend. The self-proclaimed “King of R&B” will be in Houston to perform at a community event. The Houston Botanic Garden hosts its second annual Celebrez en Rose wine and music festival this weekend. Attendees should wear pink and white. The festival highlights black businesses and products.

The “B.E.D.” singer loves performing and Texas and is even happier to support Black-owned businesses. He spoke with ABC 13 in Houston about the event.

“Being able to say, ‘Hey this is Black-owned’, and people loving it and people who aren’t Black want to support, you know, it feels good.  For me to be on the forefront of Black people, to represent us, it feels really good.”

Jacquees is a business owner himself as he opened a wine and tapas bar earlier this year in Georgia. The 29-year-old is ready to give the fans a great show as he reminds people that he never lip-syncs. Along with Jacquees, MC Lyte and Big Freedia will hit the stage as well.

Jacquees Speaks On Gunna, Says “Free My Brother” Young Thug

He’s collaborated with both Young Thug and Gunna, and Jacquees is showing support to both artists during the YSL scandal. Thugger continues to fight for his freedom as the RICO case against him and 13 co-defendants moves forward. Meanwhile, Gunna has been released after agreeing to a plea deal, sparking a wave of controversy as allegations of snitching plagues him.

It’s reported that several rappers and industry elite have quietly unfollowed or removed Gunna from social media. Recently, Jacquees was stopped by a TMZ cameraperson and asked about his peers.

“I don’t know, I stay in my own lane,” he said when questioned about people unfollowing Gunna. “I stay in my own lane, man. You know, I wish everybody the best.”

The cameraperson “applauded” Jacquees for “still following” the “Pushin P” rapper online.

“Oh, yeah, I just stay outta that. I just wish everybody the best. Free my brother, though! That’s the biggest thing.”

After going viral for being one of the names to delete Gunna, Polo G emerged to deny rumors. He claimed he never followed him in the first place.

Young Thug has faced a new set of problems after prosecutors alleged he was involved in a drug deal. The incident occurred during a court hearing as co-defendant Kahlieff Adams slipped Thugger a Percocet. Deputies immediately confiscated the pill, and later it was reported that Adams also had tobacco and marijuana on his person.

A lawyer argued that Adams was taken to a holding cell where he was repeatedly tased. Adams was later sent to a hospital for treatment, although authorities claimed it was because he ingested contraband in an effort to conceal.

Jacquees On “Sincerely For You,” Future As EP & Holiday Traditions For HNHH’s “12 Days Of Christmas”

Undeniably, Jacquees is preparing for a new season of his career. Years ago, he took social media by storm with his “King of R&B” declarations that caused quite a few conversations. However, Jacquees is more than just a viral moment or the subject of a hot take. The 28-year-old R&B crooner has been active in the industry for over a decade, and now, he’s back with a new album, Sincerely For You. The project not only hosts a look from Future, but the rapper also holds the title of executive producer.

Aside from Jacquees partnering with his fellow Georgia native, the star-studded cast of features are also standouts. Summer Walker, 6LACK, Tory Lanez, John P. Kee, and Dreezy help round out a project that Jacquees is hoping that is ushering in a new chapter of his life.

“It’s all grown-man vibes. I’m 28 years old now,” he told HNHH exclusively for our 12 Days of Christmas series. “So, the conversations are just different for everything, for me. Even the lifestyle.
You know, you get older, you know, you stop doing a lot of the things that you was doing before. I feel like that’s kind of how I did it with my lifestyle and my music. And I believe that through records, you’ll be able to tell the growth into maturity.

In 2019, Jacquees delivered two projects: his sophomore studio album, King of R&B, and his holiday offering, Christmas in Decatur. The Cash Money and Republic Records star also gave us a mixtape in 2020 amid the pandemic. His new singles “Tipsy” and “Still That” certainly place the hitmaker’s talents on display, and it’s evident that Jacquees is authentically evolving in an ever-changing entertainment industry.

As he celebrates the arrival of Sincerely For You, Jacquees took a few minutes to chat with us about the album, a few holiday traditions, leading from the heart, and wanting to lock in a few award wins in 2023.

This interview has been slightly edited for clarity.

HNHH: Thank you so much for taking the time to talk with us today. It feels like you’ve been laying low, and now you’re back with a new record. Tell us about Sincerely For You and what fans can expect.

It has definitely been a minute. I ain’t dropped an album since, I think like, 2019. Sincerely For You, this my third album, executive produced by Future, of course. The process was crazy. We been working on it for like a year, over a year. We started on it last year in Miami. It’s just been a cool process. I got some dope producers on there.

I’m just bringing the sound that I know everybody wanna hear from me. I gave them a preview with “Tipsy” and “Still That.” It’s a lot more records to come that’s just gon’ be crazy. I know everybody gon’ love these records ‘cause I already know what my fans expect from me. So, I feel like I’m finna give them just that.

It’s interesting because Sincerely For You hosts features from 21 Savage, Tory Lanez, Summer Walker, Future… But you decided to lead with singles where you stand alone. Many artists often push a record with a featured track first. What were your thoughts on doing the opposite this time around?

I feel like features are cool, but I always feel like my fans, they always want me. You know what I’m sayin’? Of course, with features, it always helps because we collab fan bases, but a lot of the times, a lot of my stand-alone records be some of my best records. I just want the people to know, you know, I can do it alone.

But of course, I got some records, some features that’s crazy. We gon’ push them up through there [laughs]. But, for the most part, I really wanted to put those records out first because I feel like it’ll give people a good feel for the album and what to expect.

I read that this was a “new chapter” for you. What does that mean for you professionally as you usher in this new era?

It’s all grown-man vibes. I’m 28 years old now. I was 24, 25, when I dropped my last album. So, the conversations are just different for everything, for me. Even the lifestyle.

You know, you get older, you know, you stop doing a lot of the things that you was doing before. I feel like that’s kind of how I did it with my lifestyle and my music. And I believe that through records, you’ll be able to tell the growth into maturity.

Most definitely. Personal evolution and maturation can’t help but spill over into your professional life—if you’re dedicated to the growth.

Exactly.

Let’s shift gears to the holidays. We’re in the thick of things with family dinners, trimming trees, and all the feel-good moments of the season. What traditions do you do with your loved ones this time of year?

Traditions that we do? Hm. We always get together at my mama house, always, for Christmas. You know we always—do we open gifts on Christmas Eve? No, we don’t open gifts on Christmas Eve, but we always have a big breakfast. My mama makes some of the best cheese grits in the world [laughs]. I’m really looking forward to that.

For the most part, a lot of times lately, we always go to like, Disney World for Christmas. We’ve been doing that lately. Going down to Orlando, celebrating at Disney World, just doing stuff like that.

That’s sweet! I need those cheese grits [laughs]. And during this time, people are casting visions for 2023. I stopped resolutions and instead try to learn something new for the year. Are there any resolutions or goals that you have for 2023?

I feel like everybody always says the same sh*t [laughs]. But for me, every year, I’m trying to be a better person, a better artist, a better human being, period. So, I think for me next year, my New Year’s resolution, besides all that, I just want to get some awards. I think that’s something that I’m trying to work hard toward. Get some awards, some recognition for my hard work. That’s something I look forward to.

Definitely deserved. This is my last question, I ask everyone I interview. In the illusion that is the industry, people have expectations of who they think Jacquees is. The veil of celebrity often causes people to perceive artists in a certain way that’s not always a true reflection of who they are. What is something about the heart of Jacquees as a person that doesn’t always translate because people can’t see beyond who they think you are as a celebrity?

I don’t think people see how big my heart is. Of course, they see everything I say, you know, this and that, but I don’t think people really just see, like, the truth. The real me. I feel like, if they did, I’d get a lot more love. But that’s what I’m trying to show people now. Hopefully, they’ll see it.

But I feel like that’s something that people don’t really see a lot of me like…my heart is huge. Like, I do so much. Just off the strength of my heart, you know? But I feel like people will eventually see.

I appreciate that so much. Thank you so much for the time. Have a wonderful holiday season, and Happy New Year!

Thank you. And you, too! And make sure to get Sincerely For You on December 16th [laughs]!

Jacquees Croons Through”Tell Me It’s Over Ft. Summer Walker & 6LACK

This week, Jacquees ends his hiatus by releasing his new album, Sincerely For You. The last time we received a project from the R&B singer was in 2019, so his fans have been patiently waiting for new jams to add to their playlists. The album is executive produced by Future, who also adds his name to the list of features. Other artists include 21 Savage, John P. Kee, Tory Lanez, Dreezy, Summer Walker, and 6LACK.

The latter two lend their voices to “Tell Me It’s Over,” a song where Jacquees gets honest about a relationship that turned sour. The song is about staying with someone even after both parties have hurt the other and not having the strength to end things.

Quotable Lyrics

I know I f*cked up, you caught me lyin’ too many times before
Took me back, I did it more
I was convinced, you was gettin’ naked and hit
By another n*gga, yeah, I was sick
I’m a player but I gotta admit
Yeah, you hurt me, but I know it ain’t as bad as I hurt you

Ne-Yo and Jacquees Give R&B Singers Tips on How To Prepare for a Performance

Ne Yo

Ne-yo and Jacquees both made their presence felt during Essence Festival weekend. Jacquees performed a number of fan-favorite hits at the McDonald’s stage as the crowd danced and sung along. Ne-Yo on the other hand took time off from his many appearances to stop by the festival and chop it up with everyone.

While discussing the last VERZUZ battle that brought Mario, Omarion, Ray J, Bobby Valentino, Sammie and Jeremih to the stage, Ne-Yo offered some tips for singers to get ready to perform. Although the VERZUZ was very “entertaining,” Ne-Yo says he’s unsure as to what exactly happened.

“Tea is a very, very, very large and important part of my singing career. I use green tea and honey. That normally works for me,” said the 3-time Grammy winner. That and pineapple juice.”

For Jacquees he adheres to Ne-Yo’s recommendation, but suggests his own methods as well.

“When it’s time (to perform) I like to take a hot shower, to get all the mucus out (of my system),” said the ATL crooner. “I drink throat coat with honey and lemon and chew gum to keep my voice on point. I’m always singing. Whether I’m humming, I always keep my voice ready. I don’t try to yell a lot too. Getting your rest as a singer is like the number one thing, so for all the singers make sure y’all get sleep.”

Both R&B singers are gearing up to drop an album this Summer.

Ne-Yo is set to drop his 8th studio album, Self-Explanatory on July 15th, while Jacquees is gearing up to release an album executive produced by Future.

“It’ll be a cool tutorial for you on what R&B is supposed to sound like,” says Ne-Yo about his album.

Jacquees is calling his project his best album so far as fans await a release date.
