Tinashe has been in the music industry for the better part of a decade now. While she did have a couple of songs that got her some attention early on (“2 On” “All My Friends”), it seems that things are different now. We mean that in the best way possible, as it seems her newer output is keeping listeners around this time. She has been impressing the critics as well, especially with her last project, BB/ANG3L. We continue to revisit tracks like “Treason”, “Talk To Me Nice”, and “Needs”. However, Tinashe now appears to have the greatest hit of her career so far with “Nasty” as now it’s getting remix after remix.
In June, the Lexington Kentucky native put out a collection of new versions under the Match My Freak EP moniker. It includes the original version in addition to another six renditions, with all of them featuring different DJs. However, there are two new big-ticket features that Tinashe added to this EP, and those are Tyga and Chloe, aka Chloe Bailey. Both of their verses replace the lead artist’s second and each one is about 20 seconds shorter. These remixes for “Nasty” are just loosies, as the first version and “Getting No Sleep” are the singles for Tinashe’s August 16 LP, Quantum Baby. Still, give these new options a spin below.
Is somebody gonna match my freak? Touch my body ’til my knees turn weak You ain’t even gotta ask me, ask me You know I’m down seven days of the week (Yeah) I can tell you wanna touch my— (Uh, match my freak) Lick my— (Uh), kiss my— (Uh, oh-oh, match my freak)
Latto has become a certified hitmaker in the past few years. While “Big Energy” served as her breakthrough and her biggest hit yet, she’s become a pretty reliable staple of popular music. Last year she teamed up with Cardi B for a hit remix of her song “Put It On Da Floor.” She also joined K-pop star Jung Kook for his massive hit song “Seven.” During a recent interview with Hot 107.9 she spoke on the writing process of some of her biggest songs, in particular, which one was the easiest.
When asked what track was the simplest to assemble she answered with one of her first singles ever. “‘Bitch from da Souf’ was like, I was pullin’ up a beat pack from Bankroll Got It, and I heard the ‘Bitch from da Souf’ beat, and I really just started writing it in my Notes. Went to the studio that night, or the next day, and cut it,” she explains. She goes on to explain that now she feels a lot more pressure during the songwriting process than she used to. ““Now, I be trying to recreate that process, because now I be overthinking everything. I wish I could get back in that mindset where it’s like, no pressure,” she concludes. Check out the clip from her new interview below.
Earlier this week, Latto was asked about her top three favorite female rappers of all time. Her list wasn’t all that controversial including Lil Kim and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez but it was the third entry that got people’s attention. She refused to say the final rapper on her list by name, leading many to believe that she was talking about Nicki Minaj.
She may not have wanted to say the rapper’s name following beef they’ve had in the past. What do you think of Latto’s claims that one of her earliest songs was one of the easiest to write? Are you looking forward to hearing the next hit from her? Let us know in the comment section below.
J. Cole has become one of the most recognizable hip-hop stars of all time. He is always included in the conversation for best rappers of the 2010 decade. His name is always next to Kendrick Lamar and Drake in those debates and deservedly so. Cole is one of the few lyrical mainstream hitmakers we have going today. However, the German born MC did not always find it necessary to become a master of hit songs. That is until J. Cole’s mentor JAY-Z taught him the way and convinced him to rethink things.
In a recent post from thehiphopwolf on Instagram, J. Cole revealed in a conversation how JAY-Z implored him to make some hits before dropping his debut tape. The “No Role Modelz” creator talked about his mindset going into his first LP saying that he was not concerned about that aspect. Instead, he was focusing more on making a classic. “That s***” could have sold 3,000, man that is supposed to be slept on.”
However, Hova quickly challenged that mentality once Cole signed to Roc Nation. Once J. Cole was told to go back and write up some hits, he said it took him a year to two years to do so. But, it was a full circle moment for him as now he sees it as a “superpower.” 2014 Forest Hills Drive was the start of that trend for Cole and he even said it himself in the clip above. “By the time [that] came by, I was smackin’ them b*****s out effortlessly.”
What are your thoughts on J. Cole revealing how JAY-Z taught him to make hit songs? Do you think JAY-Z is the greatest teacher in all of hip-hop, why or why not? Is Cole his greatest student, why or why not? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Early today we found out that Drake’s 2011 album Take Care was robbed of its diamond certification by the RIAA. Numerous reports said that it reached the certain number of units sold to reach that milestone. However, they corrected that saying roughly eight million copies have been purchased. However, when it comes to Drake, this type of stuff rarely phases him. He is so successful that another achievement is sure to come down the pipeline. That happens to be the case today, as one of his hit songs has hit a tremendous streaming goal. “One Dance” becomes his first record ever to eclipse three billion streams.
According to HipHopDX, Drake got a text from his OVO Sound president Mr. Morgan, who is hilariously labeled “Man Like Morgan” in his phone. He congratulated his biggest name on the label on the achievement. You can check that out below. To celebrate this, Drake tagged Wizkid and the song’s producers Noah “40” Shebib and Nineteen85.
What also makes this so special for the Toronto legend is how elusive this mark is to reach. Only six other songs have had the opportunity to join the three billion club. The Weeknd did it with “Blinding Lights” and “Starboy.” Post Malone and Swae Lee’s Spiderman-prepped “Sunflower,” Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You,” Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved,” and Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” accomplished it as well. It sort of goes without saying, but this proves that Drake can really work in any genre and come up with a catchy tune that resonates years later.
What are your thoughts on Drake’s “One Dance” hitting three billion streams? Is this your favorite non-rap song from Drizzy, why or why not? Is this his greatest hit track because of this milestone? What will be his next record to eclipse that number and why? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Drake. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on around the world of music.
Drake is one of the few artists who can have a song blow up without much notice or rollout. He was able to pull that off six years ago (January 19) with his two-pack EP, Scary Hours. It began the running theme within Drizzy’s catalog that has now produced a follow-up and is the title for the For All The Dogs extended version. As we mentioned, the first Scary Hours possessed one of Drake’s biggest songs ever, that is “God’s Plan.”
It took over the internet and it was his first single since “Signs” about a year prior in 2017. Joining the global phenomenon was the more lyrically-heavy “Diplomatic Immunity.” While “God’s Plan” is more of a triumphant and thankful cut about how far he’s come amidst adversity, the latter flexes a more braggadocious Drake. “‘Cause n****s started talkin’ to me like I’m slowin’ down / Opinions over statistics, of course / Gassed off journalistic / Come at me and all you’ll get is the ballistic report.”
Relisten To “Diplomatic Immunity” And “God’s Plan” By Drake
Every time a year passes by, it makes it crazier and crazier when hit songs grow older. “God’s Plan” feels like it is about three years old. But, when you can stack hits like Drake, that is going to happen. While a good amount of people have grown tired of the track for its constant radio and playlist attention, you have to admit he knows how to pen an earworm. Do not lie you still repeat those lyrics below here and there. Even all these years later, the song is still in his top 10 on Spotify with over 2.4 billion streams. Its accompanying iconic visuals have racked up an astounding 73 million views.
What were your thoughts on Drake’s EP Scary Hours when it dropped six years ago? Out of “God’s Plan” and ‘Diplomatic Immunity” which one was your favorite at the time? Has your opinion changed, why or why not? Is “God’s Plan” his best single ever? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Drake. Quotable Lyrics From “God’s Plan”:
She say, “Do you love me?” I tell her, “Only partly I only love my bed and my mama, I’m sorry” Fifty Dub, I even got it tatted on me Eighty-one, they’ll bring the crashers to the party And you know me Turn the O2 into the O3, dog
Last year, Latto had her breakthrough commercial moment with her song “Big Energy.” The track was an absolute smash hit that ended up as one of the highest-selling songs of 2022. She didn’t slow down much going into 2023 with her next hit “Put It On Da Floor” dropping early this year. While the song did initially make a splash, it was once Cardi B teamed up for a remix that it hit its peak. After debuting at number 13 on the Hot 100 the song hovered in the top 50 for months.
“I ain’t gonna lie, ‘Put It On Da Floor’ I knew was gonna go,” she begins after being asked if she can tell which songs will be hits. She goes on to describe it as the track she’d “been looking for.” After previewing the song at Coachella she reportedly wanted to drop it but her label thought it wasn’t ready. She decided to go ahead and drop it and the track became a hit. At the end of the clip, she pats herself on the back for her vision. In the comments, fans agree. “She ate it up & then Cardi B was chefs kiss! Definitely still playing it,” one of the top comments reads. Check out the interview clip and fan reactions below.
If Latto really does recognize a hit when she hears one, then she must have lit up for “Seven.” Her collaboration with K-pop star Jung Kook was an instant smash debuting at the number-one spot on the Hot 100. Though it isn’t technically a rap song, the track still made Latto the first rapper to appear at the top spot on the Hot 100 in 2023.
The song just hit another impressive milestone. It officially became the fastest song to hit 1 billion streams in Spotify history. The track currently sits a just over a billion streams and with Jung Kook’s new album due to drop this week it could get a substantial boost. What do you think of Latto claiming that she knows if a song will be a hit or not? Let us know in the comment section below.
Although 2016 seems so long ago, that year consisted of memorable rap moments and hit singles. That particular year still holds significance to music listeners as they feel nostalgic towards its prolific releases. Multiple publications have penned articles about why 2016 was one of the best and biggest years for music, citing many monumental hip-hop songs and albums. In fact, British comedian James Acaster once published a book that argued 2016 was the best year for music ever.
Beyond the significant albums that were released that year, from Drake’s Views to Chance The Rapper’s Coloring Book, 2016 was a year full of major rap hits. Looking back at the memorable year from the past decade, here are seven No. 1 rap songs from 2016. Each of these songs reached No. 1 on a Billboard chart, including the Hot 100, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and Hot Rap Songs charts. Take a look at the tracks below.
Like many previous and subsequent years, Drake dominated the charts in 2016. His album, Views, had the highest first-week consumption out of any hip-hop album released that year. However, Drake’s biggest No. 1 songs of 2016 did not feature rapping. His biggest hits that year included the dancehall and afro-fusion chart-topper “One Dance,” as well as “Hotline Bling.” Additionally, both of his collaborations with Rihanna, “Work” and “Too Good” also reached No. 1 on the charts that year. Out of his No. 1 2016 hits, Drake’s only rap song to top the charts was “Summer Sixteen.” The single served as a victory lap following his beef with Meek Mill in 2015 and led to his tour with Future of the same name. “Summer Sixteen” also simultaneously reached No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts.
6. Chance The Rapper – “No Problem” Ft. Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz
Chance The Rapper had achieved a massive amount of success as an independent artist but took things to a new level with his Grammy-award-winning mixtape, Coloring Book. Following his show-stopping verse on Kanye West’s “Ultralight Beam,” Chance continued to wave the flag for independence, shunning record labels on the song’s chorus. He exclaims, “If one more label try to stop me / It’s gon’ be some dreadhead n****s in your lobby.” Fresh off their ColleGrove collaboration, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz contributed guest features. Wayne’s verse particularly aligned with the song’s message as he was engulfed in label drama at the time, preventing Tha Carter V from being released. “No Problem” reached No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart for two consecutive weeks and won a Grammy award for Best Rap Performance.
While Tory Lanez is currently in very different circumstances than he was seven years ago, 2016 was undeniably his breakout year. His debut single, “Say It” was quite successful as it was also his first song to peak at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart for four weeks and also sat atop the US Rhythmic chart. The song was released in 2015 but was the lead single from his 2016 debut album, I Told You. “Say It” remains the biggest hit of Tory Lanez’s rap career and is currently 3x platinum.
“Black Beatles” is one of Rae Sremmurd’s biggest hits to date. The SremmLife 2 single featuring Gucci Mane conquered social media in 2016 as it became the soundtrack to the viral “Mannequin Challenge” trend. The song was a major moment for Gucci Mane, who had been released from prison earlier in the year and continued a prolific run of guest features. Not only did it top the Billboard Hot 100, marking both Rae Sremmurd and Gucci Mane’s first chart-topping single, “Black Beatles” sat at No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Rap Songs, and the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay charts for the last six weeks of 2016.
By 2016, G-Eazy had been on a run of releasing nonstop hits. He had just released his fourth album When It’s Dark Out, which remains his biggest album to date. While the album and its lead single, “Me, Myself & I” were both released in 2015, the hit single sat atop the rap charts during the first quarter of 2016. A collaboration with Bebe Rexha, “Me, Myself & I” is still one of the biggest hits of both of their careers. The song held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Rap Songs chart for nine weeks.
DRAM had released his breakthrough single in 2015 with “Cha Cha” but “Broccoli” marked a new phase in his career. The 2016 hit became the lead single for his debut album, Big Baby DRAM. It is now the biggest song of his career, achieving 7x platinum status in 2018. Also on “Broccoli” is Lil Yachty, who was in the middle of his breakout moment with the release of his debut mixtape. A feel-good pop song with a light-hearted instrumental and bubbly chorus, the song became a massive crossover hit for both artists through its production and Lil Yachty’s auto-tuned verse. While it reached No. 1 on multiple Billboard charts, “Broccoli” remained in the top spot on the Rap Songs chart for nine consecutive weeks. It was also nominated for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration at the 2017 Grammys.
The success of “Panda” in 2016 was undeniable. One of the best-charting rap songs of 2016, Desiigner’s debut single was an immediate hit. The track had the ultimate cosign from his GOOD Music boss Kanye West as it was prominently sampled on “Pt. 2” from The Life of Pablo. “Panda” introduced the world to Desiigner’s choppy flow and animated ad-libs that landed him a spot on the 2016 XXL Freshman Class, as well as a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance. The hit record sat atop the Rap Chart for a whopping 15 consecutive weeks, not to mention its No. 1 positions on other charts for multiple weeks as well. Like each of these tracks, “Panda” was one of the No. 1 rap songs that helped define 2016 as a memorable year.
As she embarks upon the week of her 26th birthday, Coi Leray has a few things to get off of her chest. On Monday (May 8), the Trendsetter hitmaker used her Twitter profile to vent about the current status of the field she works in, writing, “The music industry is oversaturated. Every song is a hit. Everybody is a star.” Thousands of followers made it known they agree with the singer by liking or retweeting the post, but others didn’t hesitate to chime in with their opinions challenging Leray’s comments.
“Can’t help but think Coi benefited from said saturation,” one user pointed out, seemingly referring to the endless TikTok hits the Boston baddie has released throughout her career. “Valid message, wrong messenger,” their message concluded. On Tuesday (May 9) morning, Leray responded to that tweet, along with a few others. “Y’all [buggin],” she chiefly declared. “My versatility, my stage presence, my stats, my collabs, my brand deals,” the “Anxiety” artist quickly reminded readers of her various talents aside from crafting catchy tracks.
“[I’m a] fashion girl. I can dance, sing, [and] rap. It’s fine if you don’t see it now, I’m in no rush for you to notice,” Coi’s clap back continued. In another post that landed on her feed minutes later, she publicly hyped herself up even more as a reminder to any would-be haters that her confidence isn’t so easy to shake. “Lol, I’m that girl. Real life. Offline. In the booth, on the stage, on the red carpet. On the radio, overseas, and that’s just what it is, Leray noted. “Shout out to my bitches who stay true to themselves and [don’t give a f*ck] what nobody has to say!”
In later tweets, the soon-to-be birthday girl made it known that it’s all love, and she didn’t want to start drama with anyone. Rather, she’s reflecting on her achievements throughout the last year ahead of turning 26 on Thursday (May 11). Keep scrolling to read more from Coi Leray’s latest Twitter rant. The Breakfast Club recently had Sukihana on the show, who was very excited promote her upcoming single “Casamigo.” However, she found herself in a tough situation after host Charlamagne Tha God, well-known for his unfiltered takes, suggested that her song wouldn’t be a hit. Moreover, the “Love & Hip Hop: Miami” star said that many DJs, particularly DJ Clue, showed her a lot of love. When she said that they told her she had a hit on her hands, Charlamgne said that DJ Clue will tell that to anybody. Obviously, Sukihana wasn’t too happy about that, and she proceeded to blast the media personality on air.
“What, s**t, you’s a motherf***in’ liar,” Sukihana retorted against Charlamagne Tha God. “Under that two piece that you got on, you got a thong up your a** and your booty hole shaved. So I’ma let you be great, but we gon’ get back to this motherf***in’ hit. It’s shaved, it’s shaved. You like that a** licked. And there’s nothing wrong with that. You gon’ motherf***in’ respect a queen when you see one. I don’t give a f**k if DJ Clue lie. B**h, God tell the truth, and ‘Casamigo’ is a hit!”
Charlamagne Tha God Shouldn’t Have Doubted Sukihana
Of course, this seems a bit more confrontational out of context than what really went down. The rest of The Breakfast Club‘s hosts were laughing along, teasing Charlamagne Tha God and reacting with hilarity to Sukihana’s rant. All in all, it still made for a pretty hilarious clip that Charlamagne himself took in stride. He joked that he does have a thong on, and didn’t really try to stop the Delaware native or clap back at her. Considering how viciously she trashed DaniLeigh’s new song, he doesn’t want that smoke.
Regardless, pop culture actually got a surprising retrospective look at the 31-year-old artist after Jerry Springer’s passing. A clip of her on his show back in 2017 resurfaced, in which she performs and joins a couple on stage. No matter the context, her antics usually get a lot of eyes and ears on her on social media and beyond. If this Breakfast Club episode is anything to go by, it’ll almost always make for some quality entertainment.
