Atlantic Records Announces 75th Anniversary Vinyl Reissues Of Albums From Cardi B, Led Zeppelin, And More

While 2023 represents the 50th year of hip-hop, it’s also the 75th anniversary of one of the labels that has had a huge hand in making hip-hop the global phenomenon it is today. Today, Atlantic Records announced its plans to celebrate making it three-quarters of a century (especially in an industry that has seen so much upheaval almost from day one), which include a year’s worth of vinyl reissues of classic and contemporary albums that have defined its first 75 years.

The campaign will kick off in October and include 90 albums from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Bad Company, Booker T & The MGs, Bruno Mars, Cardi B, Christina Perri, Coldplay, Foreigner, Gucci Mane, Jack Harlow, Janelle Monáe, John Coltrane, Kehlani, Led Zeppelin, Lupe Fiasco, Matchbox Twenty, Otis Redding, Phil Collins, Ray Charles, Velvet Underground, Willie Nelson, and more. Some will be special pressings; others will be releases that have never been on vinyl before. There’s also exclusive, limited-edition merch, and partnerships with Vinyl Me, Please and Acoustic Sounds.

The collection will be curated by Atlantic Records chairman/CEO Craig Kallman, who’s been working on it for years. “It was stacks of paper making sure we didn’t miss anybody,” he said in a press release. “It was painstakingly done. There was a lot of internal debating… We tried to include records that were culturally significant, that were groundbreaking for the company, that were blowout sales successes. It was about records that defined the label and the culture of the company.”

Kallman had a personal investment in much of that history, joining Atlantic in 1991 after his dance label, Big Beat Records, was acquired by Atlantic. And although he said he thought it’d be cool to limit the run to 75 titles, he found he just couldn’t, resulting in the 90 planned releases (might as well up it to 100, Craig!). From the names of the albums included, it looks like a worthwhile endeavor and we can’t wait for the year ahead.

Atlantic Records and Uproxx are both independent subsidiaries of Warner Music Group.

Gucci Mane, J. Cole, And Mike Will Made-It Master The Formula On Their New Collab, ‘There I Go’

Gucci Mane has another hit on his hands. A feature from J. Cole and production by Mike Will Made-It is the formula for a hip-hop hit, and on his latest single, “There I Go,” Gucci reminds us of why he’s maintained his longevity.

For nearly two decades, Gucci has consistently delivered on quality hip-hop and trap music projects, and his tenacity has certainly paid off. He is currently gearing up to release a new album called Breath Of Fresh Air, which is already proving to be promising.

“Gucci Mane and J. Cole the collaboration / They poked the bear and woke the bear up out of hibernation / These boys exaggeratin’, do a lot of fabrication / But ain’t no gimmicks in my gang, this sh*t ain’t animations / Now Mike Will Made-It and Gucci Mane slayed it,” raps Gucci on his verse.

The line “Mike Will Made-It and Gucci Mane slayed it,” arrives as a full circle moment, which began in Mike Will’s early days as a producer in 2007. On a song called “Star Status,” Gucci raps, “Mike Will made it / Gucci Mane slayed it.” This line inspired Mike Will so much, that it spawned his signature “Mike Will Made-It” producer tag.

You can listen to “There I Go” above.

Breath Of Fresh Air is out 10/13 Via 1017 Global Music and Atlantic Records. Find more information here.

Donald Trump Has Reportedly Fired His Lawyer, Who Previously Represented Gucci Mane, For Gunna’s Lawyer

Upon his booking in Fulton County Jail, former U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly changed his legal representation.

Trump, who was indicted by a Fulton grand jury earlier this month on 13 felony counts for attempting to overturn a Georgia election, was previously working with Drew Findling. Findling has represented acts like Gucci Mane and Offset in the past. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Trump has since swapped Findling for Steve Sadow.

“I have been retained to represent President Trump in the Fulton County, Georgia case,” Sadow told the publication. “The president should never have been indicted. He is innocent of all the charges brought against him.”

Sadow has previously worked with Rick Ross, however, his most recent hip-hop-related victory was getting rapper Gunna out of prison.

Trump surrendered at Fulton County Jail today (August 24). At the time of writing, his official mugshot has yet to be released, however, he was reported as having weighed in at 215 pounds and measured at a 6’3″ height.

As one can expect, the internet is currently having a field day with memes.

We can only expect what will unfold once the mugshot drops.

Gucci Mane and Gunna are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

[WATCH] T.I.: Me, Gucci and Jeezy Are On Trap Mount Rushmore

Screen Shot 2023 08 24 at 11.03.10 AM

In an exclusive interview with AllHipHop’s Chuck Creekmur, ATL Trap legend sat down to discuss who is on Trap music “Mount Rushmore”, meaning who are the most impactful and legendary pioneers within that sub-genre of Hip Hop.

As one of the first recognized Trap artists, T.I. elaborated, “There were always three figureheads in Trap music – myself, Jeezy, and Gucci. That was always like unanimous, and nobody could even question or you can’t add or remove anybody from that. Over time, there have been conversations about who else should be allotted.”

He added, “Right now, we had the three. And us having the opportunity to also collect more data and conversation and input from the people who are the most passionate about the culture of Trap music, it’s like, ‘Who should be the fourth figurehead?’”

Without much of a delay, T.I. sounded off, “We finally came to the conclusion from the people that the fourth figurehead is Future.”

Gucci Mane & J. Cole Join Forces For Mike WiLL Made-It-Produced Single This Friday

1017 leader Gucci Mane has had an impressive summer of new music so far. In June, he and Lil Baby came together on “Bluffin.” This was followed the next month by “Married with Millions.” Of course, we can’t forget his clever play on one of the most popular films in theatres right now with “Woppenheimer,” as well as the more recent “Now It’s Real” and “Broken Hearted.” Most, if not all of these titles will appear on the Southern star’s upcoming Breath of Fresh Air album. Alongside them will be a J. Cole collaboration that was announced on Tuesday (August 22) morning.

“My diamonds go brrr it’s a Cole world @realcoleworld 🌎,” Gucci wrote on Instagram earlier today. “Dropping Friday 🥶🥶,” he added. In the accompanying image, we see the lyricists hanging out in a white room together, both looking confident with elements of red incorporated into their stylish outfits. While the North Carolina native and his friend will be handling the bars on “There I Go,” they’ve tapped Mike WiLL Made-It to assist them with production.

The sound engineer has been busy over the past few months. Ahead of last weekend’s New Music Friday (August 18), he joined forces with Lil Uzi Vert to make music magic on “Blood Moon.” It’s set to appear on LUV’s upcoming Barter 16 project, which will follow hip-hop’s first No. 1 album of the year, The Pink Tape, from the Philly native.

J. Cole is still cooking up things for The Fall Off, however, the Dreamville head honcho has given out a handful of noteworthy features to other artists in recent months. He came through for Summer Walker’s Clear 2 EP with “Audio Hug,” and besides this upcoming Gucci Mane collab, he’ll also be appearing on Burna Boy’s upcoming I Told Them album. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.
