Gucci Mane Responds To Joe Budden’s Critiques Of His Label Signings

Like many prominent and influential rappers, Gucci Mane has his own label implant. In his case that’s 1017 a platform he’s used to sign a number of unconventional rap figures. That hasn’t exactly gone well for Gucci as his artists have repeatedly ended up in trouble for one reason or another. Whether that’s being dropped by the label entirely, ending up behind bars, or in one case even being murdered, it’s been a bit of a rough ride for 1017. That was what Joe Budden focused on when he criticized the label earlier this year. He took issue with the methodology they used to sign new artists.

Now, Gucci Mane himself is responding to that criticism. He was asked about it during an interview with The Morning Hustle where he dismissed the critiques. “I think that’s unfair, y’know what I’m saying, for him to say that, but I guess he’s entitled to his opinion. But to me, who else gon’ give them a chance, y’know what I’m saying? Like, I’m not tryin’ to sign the guys who don’t need no help; I’m signing the guys who don’t nobody wanna sign. Who saying like, ‘Ooh, you got a criminal record, we gon’ stay away from you’ — them the guys I’m giving a chance,” Gucci explained. Check out his entire response to the question below.

Gucci Mane Explains His Label Tactics

Gucci Mane is fresh off the release of his new album Breath Of Fresh Air last week. The double album is a massive 24-track experience that features a number of high-profile contributors. Lil Baby, J. Cole, DaBaby, 21 Savage, Kodak Black, and many more make appearances on the project.

The city of Atlanta also joined in on the celebration of Gucci’s new album. Last week the day the project was released, October 17, was also made a city-wide holiday. The state officially declared it Gucci Mane Day, which was unsurprisingly met with plenty of jokes by fans. What do you think of Gucci Mane’s response to Joe Budden’s critiques of his label work? Here’s Why Gucci Mane & T.I. Had Beef

When Gucci Mane chose Breath Of Fresh Air as the title for his newly released album, he meant it. The 24-track double-album features several artists, such as 21 Savage, Lil Baby, J. Cole, Roddy Ricch, and the late Young Dolph, but T.I.’s surprise appearance at the Gucci Mane & Friends concert at Atlanta’s The Tabernacle on Tuesday (October 17) was, in some ways, more notable.

As seen in videos circulated by longtime hip-hop journalist and Rap Radar host Elliott Wilson, Gucci Mane teed up Tip’s appearance as doing “something special for the city” and showing everyone that their beef is firmly behind them. T.I. performed “24’s.” At one point, Gucci Mane and T.I. verbalized their respect for each other and sealed it with an on-stage dap.

In the wake of this feel-good moment, outlets such as HipHopDX and Vibe retraced the origins of Gucci Mane’s now-squashed beef with T.I. Most everyone agrees that it started in 2012 because T.I. aligned with Jeezy, another long-standing rival of Gucci Mane’s. Then, in April 2018, T.I. took to Instagram to dispute Gucci Mane’s claim about inventing trap music.

“Ok,so…. AGAIN for the slow ones in the back…,” T.I. captioned a screenshot of the Wikipedia page for his 2003 Trap Muzik album. “August 19th,2003 Birth of Trap Muzik & Only fools dispute facts!!! FOH wit that Christopher Columbus ass… ‘Look what I discovered, even though they was already here’ ass sh*t!!!! WITCHO GOOD CAPPIN ASS”

“A source close to the situation tells TMZ Hip Hop both superstars have long moved past their previous round of diss exchanges from years ago,” TMZ relayed on Wednesday (October 18). “They both were co-headliners for the recent Legendz Of The Streetz tour and mended the fences, which didn’t take much doing.”

TMZ’s reported timeline matches up with T.I. naming Gucci Mane and Jeezy to his Mount Rushmore of trap music with AllHipHop in August. Not to mention, in July 2020, T.I. and Jeezy expressed their desire to call a truce with Gucci Mane for the sake of trap music.

Gucci Mane Embraces Transformations On His New Single, ‘Now It’s Real’

Gucci Mane has been keeping it coming with the bangers this summer. Tonight (August 11), Guwop has shared the latest from his upcoming album, Breath Of Fresh Air — a victorious anthem called “Now It’s Real.”

On “Now It’s Real,” Gucci celebrates a life of sobriety, and he is thriving following the transformations he’s made. Over his career, Gucci has seen many successes but remains even more focused having made the changes necessary to maintain his longevity.

“I could’ve been in prison with a hundred years / Yet I woke up in a mansion with two hundred mill’ / Had to let go of the lean and get off the pills /…Used to dream of livin’ like that but now it’s real,” he raps on the song’s chorus.

In the song’s accompanying video, Gucci is seen hanging out by the pool with his kids, rocking a heavy chain. Viewers also see a highlight reel of performances and festival appearances, reminding everyone that he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

You can watch the video for “Now It’s Real” above.

Gucci Mane Teams Up With Lil Baby In The Video For ‘Bluffin’ To Announce His New Album

Gucci Mane works on his jump shot — and takes shots at certain internet personalities — in his new video for “Bluffin” with Lil Baby, which kicks off the rollout for Gucci’s new album, Breath Of Fresh Air. “Bluffin” is a boastful track that finds Lil Baby and Gucci taking turns challenging competitors to call their bluffs, assuring them that they’re definitely holding winning hands. Gucci’s verse makes fun of old, washed-up, out-of-shape rappers (a nod to his commitment to getting fit) and denounces motormouthed music manager Wack 100 for talking too much on internet interview shows.

The press release for the album and song notes that “Bluffin” is Gucci’s fourth single of 2023 after “Pissy” with Roddy Ricch and Nardo Wick, “06 Gucci” featuring DaBaby and 21 Savage, and “King Snipe” with Kodak Black. It also offers a pre-release link for Breath Of Fresh Air which is due on October 13th via Atlantic Records/The New 1017 Records. The cover for the album features a family photo of Gucci, his wife Keyshia Ka’oir, and their son and daughter, all dressed in formalwear.

2023 looks like a bounceback year for Gucci after his 1017 label suffered a string of setbacks in 2022, including the death of Big Scarr and the incarceration of Pooh Shiesty. While the So Icy Boyz: The Finale compilation did much to prop up the remaining roster, as his label’s sole remaining superstar, it’s once again up to Guwop to save the day — and if anybody can do it, it’s the trap rap godfather.
