GloRilla TiaCorrine Finesse2Tymes Ice Spice

The recently unveiled XXL Freshman Class 2023 cover featuring Lola Brooke, GloRilla, Tia Corine, Finesse2tymes, and more, has left fans and industry insiders buzzing, but one notable absence is Ice Spice. While the Bronx rapper had the opportunity to be part of the esteemed lineup, she declined the offer, allegedly citing a packed schedule. Her […]

GloRilla Takes Latto’s Hit — And A Lamborghini — For A Spin In Her ‘Put It On Da Floor (GloMix)’ Video

GloRilla has had a stellar year. After following up her breakout hit “FNF” with a record deal, a string of equally solid singles like “Lick Or Sum,” “Internet Trolls,” and “No More Love,” and lucrative brand partnerships with the NBA and Sprite, she landed this week on XXL‘s 2023 Freshman Class cover. Today, she takes a victory lap — figuratively and literally — in the video for her freestyle to Latto’s latest hit, “Put It On Da Floor (GloMix).”

In the video, Glo and her ratchet-ass friends — you know the ones — throw a house party, flash money, and do donuts in a Lamborghini, all to celebrate the breakout year the Memphis rapper has had. Meanwhile, Glo spits cheeky lines like, “I know a lotta’ hoes don’t like me, I don’t like them either / But they respect me when they see me, I feel like Aretha.”

Glo taking Latto’s new hit for a spin is a nice way for her to salute one of her biggest benefactors. As she spent the last year blowing up, Latto helped her out multiple times, adding a verse to the remix of “FNF” and recruiting her to appear on “FTCU” with Gangsta Boo. The two Southern stars have had very similar come-ups, so it’s no surprise they get along, or sound so good on each other’s tracks.

Who Is GloRilla?

Not many artists can boast of having the Song of the Summer, but GloRilla sure can. In 2022, the Memphis native came out swinging with the summer anthem, “F.N.F. (Let’s Go).” The song, in collaboration with, and produced by Hitkidd, became both artists’ breakout hit. After the track went viral on TikTok, GloRilla achieved a huge career boost.

“F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” would eventually score a nomination for Best Rap Performance at the Grammy Awards. With a huge career ahead of her, GloRilla is aiming for the stars. On June 21, the rapper made the coveted XXL Freshman Class of 2023 list. Joining other up-and-coming Hip Hop artists, GloRilla’s talents are clearly being noticed far and wide.

Early Beginnings

Before finding fame, GloRilla endured a frustrating rise to the top. Born Gloria Hallelujah Woods in 1999, she got her first taste of music in the church. She was a member of her church’s choir and sang many solos. Still, shows like 106 & Park became fixtures in her life when she wasn’t singing.

By the time she lost her singing voice, GloRilla ventured into rap. She initially adopted the moniker Big Glo and uploaded her first freestyle to Facebook in 2016. Nonetheless, it would be several years and disappointments later before a light in the tunnel appeared. When her music wasn’t taking off as planned, she began to lose a lot of money pursuing her dreams.

Regardless, she didn’t give up. In 2021, at a local rap showcase, she met Hitkidd. Their encounter would eventually change both of their lives for the better. The producer and beat maker had initially sent the beat of “F.N.F (Let’s Go)” to Megan Thee Stallion, but her delayed response led to him offering it up to GloRilla. Thus, the viral summer anthem was born. GloRilla would eventually make history as the first female rapper signed to Yo Gotti’s record label, Collective Music Group (CMG).

Breakout Success

“F.N.F (Let’s Go)” was the song that successfully put the rapper on the map. The women’s empowerment song was widely praised as one of the best songs of 2022. After breaking through, GloRilla gained her highest charting single with “Tomorrow 2.” The track, which features a guest verse from Cardi B, enjoyed great success. However, GloRilla revealed that Cardi B’s appearance on the song was a special surprise from her team.

Surrounding the collaboration with Cardi B, GloRilla said, “Actually, my team, Gotti and them. They had already reached out to her. I didn’t know. That was a surprise for me to find out that she was on the song. They had already had it in the works and everything, but I didn’t know about it. They were going to surprise me.”

GloRilla released her debut EP, Anyways, Life’s Great to positive reviews from critics. She snagged the Best New Hip Hop Artist Award at the BET Hip Hop Awards. The nine-track project also earned a nomination for Album of the Year at the 2023 BET Awards. She is also the most nominated female artist at the awards ceremony, and the second overall after Drake. Since her breakthrough, the rapper has wasted no time securing slots at significant ceremonies and concerts. She has performed at the Grammys, the American Music Awards, Coachella, Rolling Loud, and more.

Furthermore, GloRilla is an active philanthropist. She famously donated $25,000 to her high school, Martin Luther King College Prep during a visit to her hometown of Memphis. She has also shared that she’s happy to be able to put her people on and take care of her family. GloRilla’s confidence continues to shine through not only her music, but her personality and actions.

GloRilla Reveals She Talks To Men Out Of Boredom, They Get Their Hopes Up

As one of the most popular rappers to blow up recently, many out there must be glowing at a chance to talk to GloRilla. Unfortunately for them, the Memphis MC just shared that she usually talks to guys purely because she’s bored. Of course, many would move mountains to interact with a famous artist, let alone the brain behind “F.N.F. (Let’s Go).” Still, Glo’s Twitter account doesn’t bode well for many hopefuls that want to (or are currently) shooting their shot.

“I hate when I be acting fake delusional with a N***a & Dey take me serious then get to thinking Dey dat N***a or some,” GloRilla expressed on Twitter with some crying-laughing emojis. “Like b***h a** n***a be coo I was just playing tf I’m just bored. Like ho I act like this with everybody pipe down,” she concluded. What’s more is that it’s not the biggest flame she fanned on Twitter recently. Many fans reacted wildly to a tweet that showed up on her page about Nicki Minaj, although the 23-year-old later claimed someone hacked her account.

GloRilla Talks To Guys When She’s Bored- Even If They Don’t See It That Way

“Nicki loves me and I love her too.. She does talk too much though,” GloRilla allegedly wrote on Twitter on June 2. Given a previous tweet of hers praising Cardi B, many fans believed that this just added more fuel to their fanbases’ clash. Regardless, the “Lick Or Sum” rhymer came through with an expected and all-too-common explanation for these kinds of tweets. “Dem b***hes can’t keep a real b***h hacked for too long !!!! Im back b***hes, go stream lick or sum,” she tweeted.

Meanwhile, the Tennessee native is still going hard on her musical grindwhile toying with guys online. Just about a week ago, she appeared on fellow Memphis star Moneybagg Yo’s Hard To Love mixtape on its single “On Wat U On.” She followed up a breakout 2022 with even more big singles and projects, and there’ll surely be more on the way that bring even more social media admirers. Roots Picnic had all of the major performances. Aside from reunions from State Property and The Fugees, GloRilla hit the stage for an energetic performance. During her set, Chrisean Rock emerged to dance with the rapper, surprising the crowd.

Rock is currently pregnant, but that didn’t stop a bit of twerking from going down. You can see the moment below.

Chrisean Rock’s Baby Bump Doesn’t Stop Her From Twerking Like Crazy During GloRilla Concert: Watch

Blueface throwing shade at Chrisean Rock on social media isn’t exactly anything new, though the 26-year-old has been particularly nasty to his future baby mama as of late. He’s been near-constantly subtweeting her with messages about wishing his Crazy In Love co-star had gone through with another abortion, as well as taunting his first co-parent, Jaidyn Alexis in her face. The two have a tumultuous history. It certainly hasn’t gotten any less messy in wake of Rock’s pregnancy.

While a video of her making plans with another man has been making rounds on social media, the Baltimore-born baddie has mostly taken the high road and avoided drama. Instead, she’s been focusing on her career and bringing in money to support her little one, as well as spending time with close friends who she can count on in her time of need. Among them is Blac Chyna, who organized a beautiful maternity photo shoot for Chrisean, as well as GloRilla, who tapped her friend to join her on stage for her latest performance.

A post shared by The Shade Room (@theshaderoom)

Prior to their concert, a video of a very pregnant Rock happily rehearsing alongside the Memphis native appeared online. At the time, it was unclear what they were working on. However, we now know it was the choreography for the concert, where the “Lit” rapper’s baby bump certainly didn’t hold her back from twerking up a storm. After the group finished dancing, Chrisean was overwhelmed with emotion while the crowd cheered her on. In the time since some fans are speculating that she has far more potential as a star than her baby daddy.

“I hope she wakes up and realizes that she’s the star and not him,” one IG user wrote in @theshaderoom’s comments. “She doesn’t need him to be her.” Who do you think has more star power, Chrisean Rock or Blueface? Let us know in the comments, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Sprite Pays Homage To Hip-Hop’s 50th Anniversary With Nas, Rakim, GloRilla, Latto, And ‘Rapper’s Delight’

Back in the day, Sprite was among the first nationwide brands to really embrace hip-hop. I’m not talking about a “rap” jingle, as so many other brands tried (we’re still trying to get rid of that corny “My name is ____ and I’m here to say…” rhyme to this day). Instead, Sprite really recruited pivotal figures from the hip-hop community like Nas and AZ, Pete Rock, and Five Deadly Venoms to make awesome commercials like the Voltron spots with Common, Fat Joe, and Westside Connection (my good buddy Dan Charnas writes about it in his book, The Big Payback).

Those ads kicked off a legacy of connection with hip-hop for the brand that continues today, as hip-hop celebrates its 50th anniversary. As part of the ongoing Hip-Hop 50 celebrations, Sprite paid homage to its own history with the culture by creating a new TV spot with Nas and Rakim and updating the premise with contemporary stars GloRilla and Latto. The commercial has all four rappers quoting “Rapper’s Delight,” the first official rap hit, while performing snippets of their own signature hits. Check it out:

The ad is a nice, throwback nod to the original Sprite rapper commercials of the early ’90s, which featured rappers like Kriss Kross, Kid N’ Play, KRS-One, Missy Elliott, and more, often performing original songs or their own hits to showcase the promotional power of hip-hop. This one’s still the best, though:
