Pras Michel Blames Lauryn Hill for Fugees Tour Cancellation: “Cat’s Out the Bag”

The much-anticipated Fugees reunion tour has been canceled, and now Pras Michel is pointing fingers at his bandmate, Lauryn Hill, for the decision. Pras seemed to place the blame squarely on Hill, suggesting that he had been protecting her reputation for years. “I saved her reputation for 20 years by not telling my side of the story, but oops … cat’s out the bag,” Pras remarked, leaving fans to speculate about the tensions that may have led to the tour’s downfall.

Fans were shocked to see Pras throw HIll under the bus in the interview with TMZ. The Fugees’ U.S. tour, which was set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, was highly anticipated, with fans eager to see the iconic trio—Hill, Pras, and Wyclef Jean—back on stage together. However, the tour was suddenly scrapped earlier this week, with no initial explanation given.

Lauryn Hill, breaking her silence on the matter, took to Instagram to address the cancellation. In a lengthy post, she appeared to suggest that the decision was influenced by low ticket sales, which she attributed to media sensationalism. Hill wrote, “With difficulty, the decision was made to pull down our upcoming North American tour dates. The shows in the UK and Europe ARE MOVING FORWARD as planned.”

She went on to explain that a previous injury had forced her to reschedule some shows last year, which she believes contributed to negative media narratives that ultimately affected ticket sales for the U.S. leg of the tour. “Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour,” Hill stated.

Despite the disappointment, Hill emphasized her commitment to her art and her deep connection with her fans. “Performing for my fans is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time,” she said. “Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.”

Hill concluded her message by expressing gratitude to her supporters and promising to return to the stage in North America once the circumstances are resolved. She reassured fans that the upcoming shows in the UK and Europe will proceed as planned in October.

The abrupt cancellation of the U.S. tour and the public rift between Pras and Hill have left many Fugees fans disheartened. The Fugees, known for their groundbreaking contributions to hip-hop and R&B in the 1990s, have long been admired for their chemistry and musical innovation. However, the latest developments suggest that internal conflicts may have strained their relationship to a breaking point.

As fans await further updates, the future of the Fugees remains uncertain. For now, the group’s European and UK fans can look forward to seeing them perform later this year, while North American fans will have to wait for the possibility of rescheduled dates.

Lauryn Hill Thinks The Media Is To Blame For Tour Cancelation Drama

Lauryn Hill’s announcement that she and the Fugees canceled the North American leg of their 2024 Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill anniversary tour days before it was set to begin was not that surprising, to say the least. After all, this is one of many controversies and pulled shows that the legendary rap group has caused, faced, or at least dealt with over their historic career. While many fans expressed disappointment and outrage at this, there were also plenty of them who saw this coming from a mile away. The iconic femcee herself took to Instagram on Wednesday (August 7) to explain this cancelation and blame the media.

“With difficulty [we made] the decision to pull down our upcoming North American tour dates,” Lauryn Hill shared. “The shows in the UK and Europe ARE MOVING FORWARD as planned. Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows. Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour.

“The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal,” Lauryn Hill continued. “The audiences in the UK and Europe not only haven’t seen the Miseducation Anniversary performances yet, they also haven’t seen the Fugees perform together in over 25 years! Performing for my fans is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time. Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.

“Know that I am not only grateful for those who appreciate and support my art, but that I FIGHT and push through all kinds of resistance to put together experiences that mean something for all of us. I love being able to bring these performances to you! I appreciate your understanding. We look forward to the shows in the UK and Europe in October—and for our fans in North America, when these unforeseen circumstances resolve, we’ll be back in full force. With Love, Respect, and Honesty, MLH.”

Lauryn Hill produced arguably one of the greatest albums of all time. Unfortunately, the universe just won’t allow fans to enjoy it live in a city near them.

Yesterday (August 6), Consequence pointed out that Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation Of Anniversary Tour with Fugees and special guest YG Marley was abruptly canceled. To say that this news served as a surprise would be a stretch, considering the stigma surrounding her live shows.

The tour was supposed to kick off on Friday (August 9). However, on Ticketmaster’s webpage for Lauryn Hill’s tour dates, all the US stops are marked as canceled. The same disclaimer does not appear on Hill’s international concerts in October.

Lauryn Hill has not released a formal statement regarding the update. But back in 2023, Hill was forced to postpone the run due to medical complications. Fans are hoping this isn’t the case this go around.

Lauryn Hill Cancels Fugees Tour Days Before It Was Set To Kick Off

Lauryn Hill is consistent in her inconsistency. She has a reputation for being one of the most talented and versatile songwriters of her generation. She also has a reputation for turning up late to shows, leaving the shows early, or canceling outright. Hill opted for the third choice when it came to her upcoming tour with the Fugees. On August 6, Live Nation confirmed that Hill and the other members of the Fugees were no longer going to be able to fulfill their dates. Disappointing? Sure. Surprising? Not in the slightest.

Live Nation issued a statement to every Lauryn Hill fan who had purchased a ticket on Tuesday night. “Your event has been canceled,” the app stated. “A refund will be on its way to your account soon.” A specific reason for the cancelation has not been provided. The most frustrating part of the tour being canceled, of course, is the timing. Lauryn Hill and the Fugees were scheduled to kick off their tour on August 9 in Tampa, Florida. The tour was slated to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Hill’s debut album, but was postponed from last November to this summer. It looks as though fans will be waiting even longer.

Lauryn Hill Also Canceled Fugees Shows Back In 2023

At least Lauryn Hill provided a reason for the tour cancelation in 2023. The singer issued a statement claiming that she was suffering from vocal issues. “In order to prevent any long term negative affect on my voice and my body,” she wrote. “I need to take time off to allow for real vocal recovery so that I can discontinue the medication completely.” In the past, however, Hill has not been as cordial. When the singer performed at LA’s Crypto Arena back in November, she voiced her annoyance with those who complained about her cancelations.

“They say, ‘She’s late a lot,’” Hill relayed to the crowd. “Yo, y’all lucky I make it on this stage every night. I don’t do it because they let me do it, I do it because I stand here in the name of God. God is the one who allows me to do it, who surrounded me with family and community when there was no support.” The R&B icon proceeded to complain about the lack of support her debut album received, and how she was not asked whether she wanted to make another. “I went around the world and I played the same album over and over and over and over again,” she asserted. “Because we’re the survivors.” Hopefully Lauryn Hill remains in good health despite the latest cancelation.

Lauryn Hill Brings Out Her Son YG Marley & Wyclef Jean For Captivating Performance At The BET Awards

With a stacked performers list like the 2024 BET Awards had last night (June 30), there were bound to be some special moments. The current stars were mostly holding down the fort this year, especially the ladies. GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, Latto, Ice Spice, Muni Long, and Sexyy Red are just a few to name. However, you can argue that Lauryn Hill is still that big ticket performer after her showing at the BET Awards. The iconic multi-talent of the 90s is still going strong decades after her solo and group success with the Fugees, as she still frequents live performances.

In fact, Lauryn Hill will be going back on tour later this summer in August. It is to continue the celebration of The Miseducation and The Score and there will be 21 dates to be had. After two cancelations, Lauryn, Fugees, and the fans will finally be able to relive those legendary works live. It feels like her BET appearance is going to be a taster for what is to come down the line.

If that is the case, then everyone is in for a major treat. Hill opened things up by playing the title track to her solo 1998 classic album, before jumping into “Lost Ones”. Then, after a seemingly off-the-cuff and blistering rapping performance about out social issues, her son and grandson of Bob Marley, YG Marley, joined the frey. He played two of his most popular records, “Survival” and “Praise Jah In The Moonlight”, showcasing just how much of a star he is. Finally, Wyclef Jean, popped out toward the end to reunite with Lauryn for a rendition of “Fu-Gee-La”.

What are your thoughts on Lauryn Hill, YG Marley, Wyclef Jean’s performance at the 2024 BET Awards? Where does this performance rank amongst the rest at the show and why? Who had the best outing out of the trio? Do you think the Fugees or Lauryn will drop a new album this year? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. The Fugees Are Reportedly Working On A New Album

There are not many hip-hop collectives that you can rank above the Fugees. Even with their short run as a group, the amount of creative talent between Wyclef Jean, Pras Mitchell, and Ms. Lauryn Hill is nearly unmatched. They left an indelible mark on the community through the effortless blending of other genres while also being lyrically sound. The Score is recognized as an essential 1990s record, but also a must-listen for any fan of rap. They laid down so many great tracks like “Killing Me Softly With His Song”, “Ready or Not”, and “Fu-Gee-La”. Now, it seems the Fugees are looking to craft more unforgettable tracks, as they are reportedly working on a new album.

According to an undisclosed source with Page Six, the three-headed monster is ready to make a comeback after 28 years. Following their unfortunate split, Hill, Jean, and Pras all went on to forge their own paths. Only one of them extended beyond the 90s decade, and the other two dropped just one record in 1998. But as of late the Fugees have been performing more frequently under their stage name.

According to Hollywood Unlocked, it was around this time last year that they performed at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia. Additionally, the Fugees made appearances at the Global Citizen’s Festival in Central Park and then the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, later that same year. Now, pretty soon, Hill and the gang are going to be hitting the stage on 21 separate occasions. In August, the tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Miseducation is restarting after Hill was forced to cancel her run last year due to a serious vocal strain. Her and the guys will be traveling across the United States as well as Europe. May be that will be the time they record some new music together?

What are your thoughts on The Fugees reportedly working on a new album? How soon do you think this will drop and why? Where do you rank them all time in terms of rap groups? Should it be a project with no features, or should they include some? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding the Fugees. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Lauryn Hill And Fugees Announce Dates For 2024 Anniversary Tour

The Fugees have a famously contentious history. Personal relations were horrible between Pras, Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill for years, as evidenced by lyrics in their subsequent solo works. Fortunately, they’ve been able to set their differences and reunite in the mid-2000s and the 2020s. The Fugees intended to celebrate the anniversary of their iconic album, The Score, with a 2021 tour, but the pandemic led to its cancelation. Now, the trio are trying to celebrate another iconic album on the road.

Lauryn Hill’s solo debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, turned 25 in 2023, and the singer made plans to tour the album alongside the other Fugees. Hill’s vocal strain diagnosis in September, however, led to yet another cancelation. That’s two major cancelations in the span of two years. As they, third time is a charm. Hill, Pras, and Wyclef Jean have announced plans to resume the tour this August. Despite being months removed from the Miseducation anniversary, the tour is still being sold as a celebration of the album. This makes sense, given Apple Music’s recent declaration that Miseducation is the greatest album of all time.

The ticket pre-sale kicks off Wednesday, June 26. Regular sale will be made available two days later. Hill issued a statement regarding the tour, and the Fugees reunion, in 2023. She explained her reasoning for revisiting the two pieces of her musical past. “I’ve almost felt compelled to carry a torch. Or to keep a light shining regarding the continual performance of the Miseducation album,” she told fans. “I believe there’s been a reason for that. And the Fugees coming back together for performances too feels like unfinished business we’re destined to handle.”

Lauryn Hill has been busy this year. At least, that’s the rumor. The singer was asked when she’d be releasing new music back in May. Surprisingly, she told TMZ reporters “soon.” Her son, YG Marley, backed up the claim. “Music is on the way,” Marley claimed. “For real this time.” Lauryn Hill has been teasing new music for over a decade, but has never been so direct regarding a timeline. Assuming the anniversary tour goes well, and the new album comes out, Hill fans could be getting everything they’ve ever wanted in one year.

Lauryn Hill Claims Her Anticipated Second Album Is Coming “Soon”

Lauryn Hill dropped a classic and then dipped out. The dazzlingly talented singer and rapper won five Grammy Awards for her 1998 debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, effectively turning her into a solo superstar. The anticipation for what she would do next was feverish, and yet, “next” never came. Hill has spent the 21st century touring and making the occasional guest appearance on other albums. The follow up to Miseducation became a mythic concept on par with Dr. Dre’s Detox. According to Hill, however, the wait is almost over.

The singer has been making waves as of late. She commemorated the 25th anniversary of Miseducation with a string of sold out concerts, and she recently performed a medley alongside her son YG Marley on The Tonight Show. Hill and Marley were approached by TMZ after the taping of The Tonight Show, and asked about the possibility of the former dropping a second album. Marley took a long pause before he responded, but when he did, he smiled. “Music is on the way,” he revealed. “For real this time.” He then teased the possibility of appearing on the album alongside his mother.

Lauryn Hill Hasn’t Released New Music Since 2002

The real bombshell came when TMZ approached Lauryn Hill. The outlet asked the icon whether she has any plans to release a sophomore effort, and she nodded her head. When asked when, Hill simply smiled and said “soon.” This isn’t the first time Hill has been asked about a second album, but it is the first time she’s been so definitive about it coming out. Assuring fans that new music is coming “soon” is a far cry from the bitter stance that Hill took during a 2021 interview with Rolling Stone. She claimed the success of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill made it difficult for her to make an authentic follow-up.

Hill claimed that she was never actually asked whether she wanted to make another album. “No one from my label ever called me and asked how can we help you make another album ever,” she recalled. “People had included me in their own narratives of their successes, I was considered an enemy.” Hill did put out a live album in 2002, MTV Unplugged No. 2.0. It was derided by fans and critics, yet has come to be seen as a cult classic. It’s possible that Hill could delay the release of her official sophomore album again, but this assurance has been the most exciting development for fans in well over a decade.

Wyclef Jean Supports Drake Vs Kendrick Lamar Battle: “Anything Goes”

You aren’t a viable member of the hip-hop community if you don’t make a statement on the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle. At least, it feels that way. Every notable rapper from the 1980s to the present has weighed in on the conflict and chosen sides. Some have criticized Drake and Lamar for going too far and making the battle personal. Others have championed their dedication and their willingness to push the boundaries. Charlamagne tha God dubbed it the greatest rap battle he’s ever seen. Wyclef Jean is the latest legend to give his two cents, and he mostly agrees with Charlamagne.

Wyclef Jean, who rose to fame in the 1990s, fully supports the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle. He neglected to mention which artist he picks as the current winner, but he had praise for both sides. He was even okay with the fact that Drake and Lamar were hitting below the belt with their disses. Wyclef shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), along with some context. “As someone who came up with Battle Rap being part of our culture in New Jersey and Brooklyn her[e] is my opinion as a Fugee,” he prefaced.

Wyclef Jean Encourages Drake & Dot To Keep Responding

From there, the Fugees frontman laid out the ground rules for a rap battle as he sees them. The most important rule? That anything was up for grabs. “Drake Vs Kendrick,” he posited. “In True Form of Battle Rap, anything goes.” Wyclef Jean went as far as to endorse multiple responses if it meant getting the upper hand in a battle. “The key is to be ready with what’s called a Rebuttal,” he posited. “Which means you get to respond back to every Diss track as it comes out. You get to put facts to any lies that you feel your opponent has cast on you…”

Wyclef Jean may be best remembered for his genre fusions, but he does have battle experience. He went at it with LL Cool J on the 1998 song “Retaliation.” The rappers eventually squashed their beef at Big Pun’s funeral two years later. Wyclef also had tension with Fugees bandmates Lauryn Hill and Pras, with the former putting out the Grammy-winning diss “Lost Ones” about him. The group has since made up and even performed together onstage.
