Yes, the normally happy-go-lucky Baton Rouge product who puts out some wild bangers is strictly business on this new record over here. This is a good direction for him to go in our opinion, as it shows off his tonal versatility. With “You Hate Me,” Fredo Bang is definitely making a hater anthem.

Fredo Bang just released his most vulnerable project to date: Yes, I’m Sad.
Clocking in at 15 tracks, Yes I’m Sad serves as the Louisiana native’s first project release in 14 months, giving fans exactly what they’ve been waiting for. Usually known for the turn up street anthems, Fredo wears his heart on his sleeve this time, kicking things off with the vulnerable “Yes I’m Sad” intro track.
He spits on the chorus: “Keep a poker face, so they can’t see I’m really mad. I know it’s hard to tell, but baby yes I’m sad.”
Standout features on the project include Kevin Gates on “Ring Ring,” NLE Choppa on “Sideways,” and Rick Ross on “Brand New AP.”

Congrats on the release of Yes I’m Sad. The fans are fucking with the first track.
Yeah, they like that, “Tina Turner,” and “Ring Ring.” And “Come Thru.”
What do you like about Tina Turner?
It was special to me because I had rapped on that song, but I had rapped six, seven bars. But I didn’t keep going. I thought the beat was finished, the beat wasn’t finished. I had been listening to Tina Turner for two, three months straight. “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” I had been bumping it. Then she out the blue had passed, so I’m like damn. When I went back in to finish the track, it was just on my mind.
Has YNW Melly heard “Free Melly”?
I do not know because Melly hasn’t had a phone in a year and a half. I haven’t been able to talk to him, so I’m not sure at all.
What’s the biggest lesson you learned in jail?
Things are going to happen in your life that you cannot control and you have to try your best to not be bothered by them. If you cannot control it or fix it.
What’d you do every day back there?
I’ll play cards. Watch TV. Talk on the phone. Jack off. Not too many things to do in there — oh listen to music. That’s it. Or cook. I’ll cook some noodles or some shit, nothing else to do.
What was your go-to jail meal?
I’ll either do some ramen noodles or summer sausage, that’s my little quick four-minute meal. I’ll break a Jack Mackerel down. I’ll break a hot sardine down. Mix that up: mayonnaise, mustard, barbecue sauce. Take some hot fresh fries down. It sounds very nasty. But if you’re in jail and you’re hungry, this shit tastes like a five-star meal. Break the tuna down, add the tuna. Break the hot fries down, they get a little spice to it. Drop that down, you get some cheese. Mix it with the hot sardines and the spicy of the cheese. Stretch the cheese with a little water, now you got your hot cheese sauce. You get some hot corn chips and some Doritos, oh and the summer sausage. Cut the summer sausage off too, and there you go. You got your jailhouse nachos.
You ever make it after you got out?
Nah, fuck that. [laughs]
How was it meeting Kanye?
It was nice. It was cool. Kanye a character.
Did you have a convo?
It was very brief, he just told me “congratulations.” I don’t know what he’s congratulating me for, but I accept it.
Is there anyone that you fanned out meeting since you’ve been in the industry?
Him.
“Sideways” is such a fun record. How’d that come about with NLE Choppa?
I sent it to him. I was about to put it out. I’m like man, who the fuck can match the audience with this song? Let me call my dawg. When I first hit him, he was on the tour out the country. But he knocked it out ASAP for me.
I’m sure it changes, but what’s your favorite song on the album currently?
It’s either “Tina Turner” or “Love & Relations.” Either them too.
When is Fredo gonna be in a loving healthy relationship?
I have no idea. It’s not something I care about right now. I haven’t been able to drop so much, I really want to completely focus on my career. A relationship gon’ set me back because I’m gonna have to put somebody else before it. And I got kids.
How’s fatherhood?
Good.
What’s the best part?
Well he’s starting to talk now. He’s one.
You really getting Billie Eilish tattooed on you?
Yeah, when I get the time. Because I got this one [shows Billie Jean tattoo on hand] and I gotta get this one fixed, because it got slapped when I was playing basketball. I feel like it didn’t heal really good. I’m waiting for her to respond, to get her permission.
That’s respectful of you. Did you DM her?
Yeah, many times.
Are you nice with the hooping?
Well, I do have the tendency of beating people that professionally play.

I don’t want to say no names, or put anybody on blast.

You haven’t crossed paths with 21?
Yeah, we cool. They be busy and stuff. They big artists, I don’t be taking offense to nothing.
What can you expect from your deluxe?
I don’t know. I really don’t know, I’m still putting it together. Just trying to make the right move with it and see. Keep the energy level up. Not too much of this, not too much of that. Taking my time.
Are there more vulnerable records? Or are they all turn up?
I haven’t decided. Because I don’t want to be a sad project. The whole message behind it was showing that an artist can make music all types of music and still be going through something.

I’m working. I’m cool.

Before social media took over, becoming a rapper seemed like a sustainable career sure to secure all the fame and fortune one might need. However, as prices continue to rise and FOMO causes people to spend money on things just to keep up with the Joneses, recording artists are picking up side hustles (sometimes even multiple) to keep the money flowing in. “I subscribed to Cardi B’s, to Rubi Rose’s, I just subscribe to all these motherf**kers,” the 27-year-old told Bootleg Kev during their recent sitdown. “I ain’t gonna lie, the celebrities, they trash. They OnlyFans is trash. It’s horrible… If you on OnlyFans, pop it off, bruh. Don’t come to play,” Band advised creators like Erica Banks and Alexis Skyy, besides those already named.
“If you doing OF and I subscribe, I am coming to see you fully, full-blown bare with a little bit of play and sexual engagement,” Bang noted. “If you’re not doing that, you need to get off. I don’t want to see you in your drawers and when I click the picture – you got the thumbnail of you waving, pulling your drawers down but when I go to the picture, it’s just you talking to me.”

Updates on YNW Melly have been few and far between since he was arrested nearly 5 years ago. When those updates do come they’re rarely added perspective on his mental state. Somebody who might know how he’s feeling right now is Fredo Bang. Though the two haven’t talked since 2022 he’s been a part of the trial since day one due to his association with Melly. Earlier this week he sat down with VladTV to discuss the case.
He revealed that he learned about the mistrial immediately because people tagged him on social media. The resulting mistrial meant Melly would spend even more time in police custody unsure of his future, something Fredo says he feels bad about. “I know a lot of people who have been in a situation like that waiting years and years and years… I just feel bad because I know he’s ready to get it over with,” he said. He also revealed that they haven’t talked because Melly was stripped of his phone rights. “We ain’t even talked in a minute, because they stripped him of all his phone privileges, and stuff. The interview comes a few weeks after Melly’s retrial was delayed once again. This delay came in late December of last year. Opening statements in the retrial are now expected to begin on March 5. The trial has been delayed numerous times already dating back to its originally scheduled October start date.
But it wasn’t all bad news for Melly. At the same time the start of the trial was delayed the judge also ruled in his favor, dispelling some evidence the prosecution was attempting to introduce. YNW Melly is back in court today (July 10). The latest prosecution witness to take the stand is the Florida native’s friend, Treveon Glass. As Yahoo News reports, Glass was in the same recording studio as Jamell Demons and the two men he’s been accused of killing (YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser) on the night of their deaths. While on the stand he recalled watching the trio get into a Jeep and drive away together. Hours later, word of Melly’s associates’ deaths began circulating. This is when Glass says he saw the 23-year-old at fellow rapper Fredo Bang’s house.
The outfit the “Murder on My Mind” rapper wore when leaving the studio was different than the one he had on at Bang’s, the witness told the court this afternoon. Elsewhere in his testimony, Glass confirmed Melly’s identity in a video that shows him entering the driver’s seat of the vehicle where Juvy and SakChaser tragically lost their lives. When his friends left the studio, Treveon says he and a group went to Demons’ home in Miramar. Here he fell asleep around the same time that prosecutors claim the embattled rapper killed his friends.
To this day, the gun used to shoot Juvy and SakChaser hasn’t been recovered. Melly’s defense lawyers maintain that he wasn’t in the vehicle when the killings took place. However, phone data shows that at least his mobile device was. The jury was recently prohibited from seeing the Jeep first-hand before making their decision, which is likely weighing heavy on their minds as the young recording artist is eligible for the death penalty.
At the same time as YNW Melly’s friend was testifying against him, fans at home have been placing online bets on his double murder trial’s verdict. At least one online website is offering several promotions in connection with the accused killer’s case including a sign-up bonus of up to $1,000. The sounds of New Orleans have permeated speakers across the world for decades. However, the rapper that’s carrying the torch for the city right now is Rob49. The NOLA-born rapper has been a frontrunner for the city over the past year but it was the release of 2022’s Vulture Island that built the anticipation for his trajectory. Co-signs from Birdman and features from Kevin Gates and Lil Baby helped put a spotlight on the budding star. With the release of 4GODII, he came to make a mark on the rap game and put on for his city.
As he comes off of the album’s release, he’s now gearing up for his upcoming Vulture Island weekend in New Orleans. The two-day festival begins today (Friday, June 16) and includes a concert and a celebrity basketball game. “I just wanted to give my fans a chance to see me, you know what I mean? They ain’t seen me perform in a while. So I just wanted to give them the chance to see me, you know, have a good time. I ain’t trying to break their pockets or nothing like that. I’m charging the least I can for tickets. I just want them to come f*ck with me,” he told HotNewHipHop.
Although there are a small fraction of rappers who have the potential to go pro, basketball remains one of hip-hop’s greatest past time. In recent years, NBA All-Star celebrity games have included artists like Quavo showing out on the court. For Rob49’s Vulture Island Weekend, he’s drafted a handful of his close friends and collaborators to join him. Rowdy Rebel, Anti Da Menace, Doodie Lo, and FCG Heem will play alongside Rob49 as part of the New Orleans Vultures. Meanwhile, G Herbo leads the opposing team, Choppa City, which includes Gillie Da King and Fredo Bang.
“They suck, man,” he said with a laugh ahead of the game. “We gon’ win though, for sure.” For Fredo Bang, this presents an excellent opportunity for him to get his lick back on the court. A video went viral several months back of Rob49 collecting a rumored $10,000 from the Baton Rouge native after a pickup game. “We beat him. Not out of $10,000, though but we beat him by a lot of money,” Rob49 said, although he did acknowledge that Fredo might return with a chip on his shoulder.

Despite the doubts he has for the opposing team, he feels as though Gillie Da King aka Damian Gillard has the potential to lead the game in a major way. Besides himself, he said that Gillie could very well leave the game as the MVP of this year’s Vulture Island weekend. “Yeah, I’m a fan of his game. He’s real good. Him and Ceedy Deuce got a chance [at MVP],” he said.
