10 years ago, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib teamed up for the release of their pivotal joint album Piñata, a project that changed the trajectory of Gibbs’ career and returned Madlib to the mainstream rap spotlight. Since its release, Gibbs has gone on a truly breathtaking run culminating in the release of his first major-label album, while Madlib has been a hotly demanded producer by seemingly everyone from Mac Miller to Talib Kweli to Pusha T. And, of course, “MadGibbs” teamed up once again for the Piñata sequel Bandana, proving the prior album’s success was no fluke.

Now, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the game-changing album, Gibbs and ‘Lib have announced a minor tour to celebrate. They’ll hit three cities — Boston, Chicago, and New York — in May, backed by El Michels Affair, the hip-hop band that most recently collaborated with Black Thought on his Glorious Game LP and played backing music for Gibbs and Madlib’s NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert. Openers will include Eyedress and Pink Siifu

The presale for the three shows begins Tuesday (January 23) at 10:00 am local time, while the general sale starts Friday (January 26) at 10:00 am.

JPEGMAFIA Rips Kanye West For Not Working With Him, Sends Shots At Freddie Gibbs

JPEGMAFIA is an artist who is not afraid to speak up about the things that make him passionate. Overall, he is an artist who takes risk and that certainly comes through in his music. His album with Danny Brown, Scaring The Hoes, was our best of 2023, and he has plans for more projects. In fact, the artist is in the midst of working on his latest solo album, and he has been telling fans that it should be here soon. However, over the weekend, JPEG focused his attention on none other than Kanye West.

In a now-deleted rant, JPEG had a lot to say about the legendary hitmaker. Essentially, he was upset at how Ye has passed him up to work with other artists. This even led to some shots at none other than Freddie Gibbs. “Also Kanye West i respect u but the way u acknowledge n****s who have less to offer u than me makes me feel a way,” the artist wrote. “Im a scientist in the lab a surgeon bruh u and u skip over me for n****s thats getting they baby mommas fucked on camera. I wanna make money fuck these n****s.” This morning, JPEGMAFIA apologized for his rant, although he still thinks Ye has a propensity for working with incels.

Even if that means upsetting swaths of that person’s fanbase.

FIT MAMI’s “New Baby Mama” Diss Track Attacks Freddie Gibbs, Nicki Minaj Style: Stream

We already wrote about Latto and Ice Spice notably bringing their subliminal beef with them into 2024, and it looks like they aren’t the only ones holding grudges. After giving birth to a baby boy, Freddie Gibbs’ ex has some fighting words for the Indiana native, who allegedly got her pregnant before deciding he doesn’t feel ready for fatherhood. Destini, better known as FIT MAMI online, has told her side of the story online, but her former boyfriend has hardly spoken on the situation, save for denying the rumours about her paying for his phone bill.

In the last quarter of 2023, Destini further pushed Gibbs’ buttons by linking up with his arch nemesis, Benny The Butcher. A photo of the twosome went viral online, and now it seems that the influencer might’ve used her time with the East Coast icon to get some advice on a diss track she’s been crafting. Earlier this week, she unleashed her version of Nicki Minaj’s “Barbie Dreams,” aptly titled “New Baby Mama.”

Freddie Gibbs’ Ex Goes Off Over “Barbie Dreams” Beat

“What type of ni**a say he want a kid and disown it? / The same type of ni**a that freeze up in the heat of the moment,” Destini asks her ex over the famous beat. “I knew you was a b**ch when you seen Benny The Butcher / And he b**ch slapped you after he took your chain and your Rolex,” she continues, mentioning Gibbs’ infamous beatdown at the hands of his rival.

Check out the wild music video for FIT MAMI’s “New Baby Mama,” diss track above. If you’re feeling her bars, be sure to show the social media starlet some love on Spotify/Apple Music. As for her baby daddy‘s newest musical efforts, he spent some time in the studio with Propain and Devin The Dude before wrapping up 2023. Tap into that at the link below, and check back later for more HNHH release recommendations.

Freddie Gibbs Blasts Akademiks After Blogger’s Sexual Assault Allegations Hit Online

Freddie Gibbs

DJ Akademiks had a rough ending to 2023 with sexual assault allegations levied on his name. Freddie Gibbs uses the moment to get jabs in on his longtime enemy.

“Let the disrespect be as loud as the disrespect,” Gibbs wrote. “@Akademiks quiet as a church mouse today happy new year U rapist ass bitch.”

In case you missed it, DJ Akademiks trended over the weekend after his ex-girlfriend accused him of sexual assault. During an Instagram Live session, the woman, Ziya Abashae, stated Ak and two of his friends allegedly committed the crime.

According to HipHopDX, a rape kit was conducted, and she shunned the claims by the controversial personality who stated she engaged in an orgy with his friends.

“For you to pretend you didn’t do anything? That I just went to your house, and I’m some thot, like we didn’t know each other for two years,” Abashae said. “You tried to save yourself after your friends assaulted me. Whether or not you got drunk or not, I know that when you woke up, you were on top of me too. You raped me too.”

Additional claims online feature a woman stating that Akademiks engaged in communication with her until she was 18 before he attempted to have sex with her and a video surfacing with a woman screaming in the background.

You can see it all below.

Propain, Freddie Gibbs, And Devin The Dude Combine Their Talents On “Always Down”

Propain has not been the most active rapper this year, but he is back to deliver a new LP for his fans. The Houston, Texas artist has just come by with a 13-track offering in the form of Made From Scratch. It has been quite some time since HNHH has covered one of Propain’s projects. In fact, it was about two years ago that we touched on It Ain’t Safe Outside. That was also a tighter listen, sitting at just 12 songs and 41 minutes in length. It contained features from other Texas natives like Sauce Walka, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, and more.

Made From Scratch also features names from the state where it is go big or go home. Propain grabbed guest verses from Big K.R.I.T., Sauce Walka, OTB Fastlane, up-and-comer That Mexican OT, and more. One track we wanted to feature includes the talents of Freddie Gibbs and Devin The Dude. It is track number 10 on the LP.

Listen To “Always Down” By Propain, Freddie Gibbs, And Devin the Dude

There is a ton of Southern hip-hop influence here, obviously. But, this song does it a little differently. It removes the heavy bass and relies solely on softer drums. Additionally, there is some great layering here too. The “always down” looping vocals add to the dusty and hypnotizing feeling this track gives off. Propain and Freddie deliver some aggressive verses to contrast the more lowkey production.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new song, “Always Down,” by Propain, Freddie Gibbs, and Devin The Dude? Is this the best song from Made from Scratch? If not, what song are you going to put above it? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest breaking news around Propain, Freddie Gibbs, and Devin The Dude. Finally, stay with us for all of the best song drops throughout the week.

7 Rappers Who Joined The Military

We’ll admit a rapper in uniform is not something most expect ever to see. Surprisingly though, several rappers were once in the military. Whether before or after embarking on their musical journey, these MCs have served at some point in their lives. Not many artists have navigated the challenging terrains of the music industry and military service. After all, either of the two options is tough enough on its own, so why move from one to the other?

Well, most of these rappers only had brief stints with the military and joined because they had to. Only a handful actually joined because they wanted to, for whatever reason. Nevertheless, they all count. Out of an ever-growing crop of rappers, here are seven who have served in the military before.

No Malice

One half of the Hip Hop duo Clipse, No Malice first joined the military before becoming a renowned MC. After finishing high school, the rapper was uncertain about his future, and how to take control of it. Especially considering that he had a child on the way, No Malice had to do something for money. Also, it had to be something good enough to help him take care of his growing family.

In a 2015 interview with MTV News, the rapper disclosed, “I was looking for stability. I needed it, something that was honest money and something you could count on, benefits and things of that nature. It also [allowed] me to go to school and learn a trade.” Subsequently, he became a member of the United States Army and served a two-and-a-half-year term. Although he did not re-enlist, his time there makes him one of the few rappers who were in the military. After leaving, he went on to form Clipse in 1992 with his brother, Pusha T

Freddie Gibbs

In his younger years, the talented rapper Freddie Gibbs got into trouble often. Although he got into university on an athletic scholarship, the rapper was unfortunately expelled before he finished. Subsequently, at the age of 19, he was placed on trial for theft and gun charges. Even being the rebel that he was, Gibbs had to follow orders if he wanted to get himself out of that mess. As such, to avoid jail time, he was enlisted into a pre-trial program run by the US Army. However, eight months in, Gibbs was dishonorably discharged for being caught smoking marijuana.

Canibus

The tale of Canibus’ entry into the military is unusual because it happened after he had become a rapper. Following the release of his solo debut album, he began making waves in the industry in the late ‘90s. He continued to do so until 2002, when he unexpectedly joined the US Army. In a 2021 interview on the Bootleg Kev Podcast, Canibus explained that he had been blackballed by some publications prior to his enlistment.

As a result, he felt like he needed to take some time off. It was due to the disdain he was beginning to feel towards the music industry. Canibus shared on the podcast, “The way I felt at that juncture was like, ‘You know what, rap ain’t it, I’m still young enough to go out and make a difference.” Afterward, he joined the Army, serving for two years before being discharged for smoking marijuana, like Freddie Gibbs.

Shaggy

Before turning 20 in 1988, Shaggy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. The Jamaican-American rapper had arrived in the States a year before and immediately tried pushing his musical career. However, despite enjoying moderate success, he could barely find any work. Subsequently, he decided to do something more productive and joined the Marine Corps. He served there during the Gulf War and rose in ranks to become a lance corporal. After leaving the Marines, he released one of his biggest hits, “Oh Carolina,” in 1993.

Nate Dogg

The late King of Hooks, Nate Dogg is on the short list of rappers who have served in the military. He did so at 17 when he dropped out of high school. Subsequently, he left his hometown and enlisted in the Marine Corps. Eventually, he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he served for four years. Although the reason remains unknown, Nate Dogg was dishonorably discharged in his fourth year of service.

MC Hammer

MC Hammer is one of the most famous rappers who was once in the military. He joined the US Navy and became a veteran. While he later moved on to achieve worldwide fame with his music, MC Hammer made a fine Naval officer. He diligently served in the Navy for three years, reaching the rank of petty officer third class. Afterward, he was honorably discharged and has focused on music since.

Ice-T

Hip Hop veteran Ice-T served in the US Army for four years before moving on to achieve fame with his music. Following the birth of his daughter, the rapper enlisted in the Army in 1977, joining for financial benefits. Subsequently, he was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division for the following four years. While in the Army, he rose to Private First Class.

Freddie Gibbs’ Baby Mama & Benny The Butcher Get Up Close & Personal In New Photo

It’s no secret that Freddie Gibbs and Benny The Butcher don’t get along. However, back in May, hip-hop heads were surprised to find out about the drama between the Indiana native and his former partner, known online as The Fit Mami. During their relationship, the rapper and adult actress seemed all smiles, but according to her, he bailed on their future plans after finding out she was pregnant, suddenly feeling unready to take on the responsibility of more children. “He had this idea that we would name the baby Penny, like Penny Hardaway if he was a boy. BFFR,” she wrote on Twitter at the time.

“When I told Freddie his tone immediately changed,” the content creator, whose name is Destini, noted. “I’m so confused at this point, because have we not been talking about having a baby for the last eight months??” After she told this story and outed Gibbs for the alleged photos of him spreading his booty cheeks in her camera roll, it seems the two haven’t been able to make up. Instead, she’s turning her attention to another lyricist – one who her baby daddy hates.

A post shared by DJ Akademiks (@akademiks)

On Tuesday (November 28) evening, @akamedemiks shared a new photo of Destini and Benny The Butcher looking more than a little comfortable. Her body looks as snatched as ever after giving birth, and the 39-year-old wasn’t shy about wrapping his hands around her bare midsection while leaning in to whisper sweet nothings in her ear. We’re curious to see what, if anything, Gibbs will have to say about this, and we’ll be sure to keep you up to date on the situation.

His public feud with The Fit Mami this spring (and her new photos with The Butcher) aren’t the only ones we’ve seen Freddie Gibbs take in 2023. While showing off a massive new tattoo to fans a few months back, they showed no mercy when roasting him over the artwork. Read what critics were saying at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.
