Victoria Monet & Lucky Daye Make Magic On Her Debut “JAGUAR II” Album: Stream

As many of our favourite male MCs have made note of lately, the women of hip-hop and R&B have been holding it down in 2023. Things have definitely heated up for the men in the latter half of the year, but the fairer sex has consistently been dropping hits and conquering the charts in both genres. This weekend, it’s Victoria Monet’s debut JAGUAR II album that’s taking the spotlight, with features from Lucky Daye and Buju Banton previously arriving as singles.

The former opens the 11-track project with “Smoke,” while the latter appears on “Party Girls.” Besides those two titles, “On My Mama” has also been all over social media this summer, especially now that Monet has graced us with an accompanying visual. Elsewhere on JAGUAR II, the songbird connected with Earth, Wild & Fire as well as her 2-year-old daughter, Hazel, on “Hollywood” before closing the LP out with “Good Bye.”

Victoria Monet’s Debut Album Will Take You to “Hollywood”

During an interview with Teen Vogue, the mother of one spoke candidly about her creative process as an artist. “I definitely, internally, always am in competition with no one but myself,” Monet explained. “I guess it’s healthy to want to be better and progress, but I try to keep it out of my mind when I’m actually in the studio because your brain gets busy, so I try to stay in that moment. But now that the project’s done, I can sit back and be like, ‘Yes, I think it’s better than Jaguar.’”

Keke Palmer & DaniLeigh Vibe To New Music In The Studio: Watch

Keke Palmer’s name is most commonly comes up connection with two things – her versatile acting career, and now, her infamous internet beef with baby daddy Darius Jackson. We’re still unsure if the True Jackson VP alum and her co-parent have gone their separate ways for good, but amid all the drama, Palmer hasn’t for a single second stopped securing the bag. She joined forces with Usher to star in his “Boyfriend” music video earlier this month, and now, she’s spending time in the studio with friends – including DaniLeigh.

The Chicago native’s Instagram lit up with a new video recently that finds her previewing an unreleased track that she’s obviously proud of. “Shorty got assets, good checks, good sex, good credit, she good,” Palmer sings in the preview, confidently bopping along to the beat playing behind her. As she spins around to preview the environment she’s in, we catch sight of Dani in the background, also grooving along with Keke’s latest.

It remains unclear when the 29-year-old plans to share the single, if at all, but considering she just gave us her Big Boss visual album only months after giving birth, we’re not asking too much of Palmer quite yet. Her acting career is definitely what’s kept her name in lights all these years, but many people in the comments are noting that the mother of one’s vocals are a force to be reckoned with too.

DaniLeigh certainly looked happy to be back in the studio hanging out with friends, but not as pleased as she appeared to be during her daughter’s birthday party earlier this month. The “Dead To Me” singer and DaBaby put their differences aside to celebrate Velour’s second trip around the sun, marking her first public appearance since May’s unsightly arrest. Chloe Bailey Teases Underboob While Modelling “In Pieces” Merch As Her Tour Kicks Off

The first leg of Chloe Bailey’s In Pieces tour saw plenty of exciting milestones for the 25-year-old back in the spring. Her debut solo album arrived to far less fanfare (at least in terms of first week sales) than expected, but still, she put on incredible shows at venues all across the country as celebrity friends and her fans cheered her on. Earlier in the summer, Bailey confirmed her plans to head out on the road once again, and today (August 22), the time has finally come for her second round of performances to begin.

We’ll surely see the Swarm actress showing off her favourite outfits and moments, both on and off stage, over the next few weeks. Before that though, Bailey gave us a look at the merchandise that will be available throughout the In Pieces tour with some sultry new snapshots that flaunt plenty of the singer’s underboob. “In honour of today’s first show on tour… ✨NEW MERCH AVAILABLE ON MY SITE AND AT THE SHOWS ✨. See you tonight San Diego 😍,” the black-haired beauty captioned her post.

After tonight’s show, Bailey will travel to Anaheim on Wednesday, where she’s slated to perform at the House of Blues. Following that comes concerts in Denver, Minneapolis, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Toronto, Norfolk, Charlotte, Tampa, and finally, Fort Lauderdale on September 10 at Revolution. Later that month, you can catch her overseas in London on the 21st at O2 Shepherds Bush Empire.

Elsewhere in the news, the elder Bailey sister proved how much she has her little siblings back earlier this week by shutting down ongoing speculation about the 23-year-old being pregnant. After wearing several oversized outfits, the internet was quick to assume that Halle and DDG have a bun in the oven, though that’s apparently not true. Addison Rae Promotes Debut “AR” EP In A Tutu & Sparkly Bra

When Addison Rae first began posting videos on TikTok several years ago, it’s unlikely that the young multi-talent ever envisioned her career would reach the heights it has today. She currently boasts 37.4M Instagram followers and continues to come across exciting new opportunities to work with other stars and expand her network. One of her most recent collaborations came in the form of a song called “2 die 4” featuring Charli XCX, which appears on the model’s debut AR EP.

The five-track effort arrived this past New Music Friday (August 18), following “Obsessed” being released as a single. Besides her work with the “Boom Clap” hitmaker, Rae also showed us her vocal talent on titles like “I got it bad,” “Nothing On (But The Radio),” and “it could’ve been u.” Thus far the reviews of AR have been notably favourable, with many expressing excitement to see what will come next from the Louisana-born creative.

Can’t help but get emotional,” the young woman wrote in the caption of a post from last Friday. “💋💋💋💋 you are ALLLLL 2 die 4.” In the comments, some are already declaring the He’s All That star as the new “Queen of Pop,” and that she’s here to save the genre.

She’s only 22 years old, but already Addison Rae has created a diverse resume for herself in various industries. Davido & Musa Keys Bring Latto Onboard Their “UNAVAILABLE [Remix]”: Stream

The latest criticisms against Latto have been all about the Atlanta-based artist seemingly taking a little too much inspiration from her contemporaries, such as Ice Spice and Sexyy Red. She doesn’t seem too bothered by the hate, especially given the success the 24-year-old has found with all of her recent releases. She and K-Pop sensation Jungkook broke countless records with their “Seven” collab, and not long before that she and Cardi B gave us the Song of the Summer with “Put It On Da Floor Again.”

This New Music Friday (August 18), Latto is back with more heat. She hopped on the remix of Davido and Musa Keys’ “UNAVAILABLE,” which first arrived on the Afrobeats artist’s Timeless LP at the end of March. It’s since racked up over 65M streams on Spotify, as well as a Major Lazer remix. For her part, the 777 hitmaker joined the rapper and producer to spit about taking note of the toxicity she deals with from others in her life.

Davido & Musa Keys’ “UNAVAILABLE [Remix]” Gets the Latto Treatment

“Unavailable, unapproachable, out of reach / I got ninety-nine problems and it’s never me,” the blonde beauty‘s verse begins. “Out here dragging that wagon like a f**king G / You took everything from me but accountability, tuh,” she continues before turning up the heat a notch. “To have Latto, an incredible artist who we all love jump on the record, bringing her incredible energy to this song is pretty special and I can’t wait to see everyone having a good time all year round to this song,” Davido said of his experience working with her, as per Uproxx.

Check out the bars that Latto brought to Davido and Musa Keys’ “UNAVAILABLE [Remix]” above. Make sure to add it to your Spotify/Apple Music playlist if you’re feeling the new collab. Nicki Minaj Flaunts New “Queen Sleeze” Chain While Prepping For “Pink Friday 2”

Despite the fact she hasn’t given The Barbz an album since 2018, Nicki Minaj remains a dominant force in the world of hip-hop. Since 2022 she’s been sharing collaborative efforts with Coi Leray, Lil Baby, Fivio Foreign, Ice Spice, and many others. On top of that, her solo efforts “Super Freaky Girl” and “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” have both gone on to achieve mass success on streaming. A few weeks back, the mother of one confirmed that her Pink Friday 2 LP will be arriving this fall, and since then, she’s been in full-time Queen of Rap mode making sure it’s ready for the world on time.

As HipHopDX reports, Minaj hit a major Spotify milestone earlier this week. According to a tweet from @chartdata, she’s now officially the first female rapper to surpass 65 million monthly listeners in the music platform’s history. The news is definitely celebration worthy, and not long after it came out, the Trinidadian was on her IG Story showing off a flashy new chain that’s surely helping Nicki commemorate her latest accolade.

Nicki Minaj Cements Her “Queen Sleeze” Status

In a brief video soundtracked to her “Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh)”-sampling single, Minaj showcases her “Queen Sleeze” pendant, made of both normal and pink diamonds. It’s currently unclear how much the fashionista paid for the newest piece in her jewelry collection, but what she makes from her upcoming drop and tour will likely bring her enough money to buy dozens of more braggadocios accessories.

As the official release date for Pink Friday 2 nears closer, Nicki Minaj has been spilling some secrets about the long-awaited album. Earlier this week she teased some unique sounds that we can expect to hear when her project drops in the fall on Live. Since then, she’s also shut down internet speculation that she’s sampling a Tupac hit. Noname Closes Out “Sundial” Album With “oblivion” Featuring Common & Ayoni

Over the next month, we’ll hear the final hip-hop and R&B albums of summer 2023 before transitioning into the industry heavy-hitters, who tend to share major projects in the last quarter of the year. This weekend continued the trend of artists both new and old showing out on singles and LPs. Those who stand out in the latter category are Trippie Redd (A Love Letter To You 5) and Noname (Sundial).

Noname didn’t come quietly with her latest project, bringing on collaborators like Atoni, $ilkMoney, billy woods, and Jimetta. She received no shortage of backlash for her decision to work with Jay Electronica on “balloons,” which also features Eryn Allen Kane. Elsewhere on Sundial, the 31-year-old threw shade at huge names like Jay-Z, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, and Rihanna, earning her plenty of attention in the media. We’ve already reported on that drama, but today (August 13), we’re spotlighting Sundial‘s closing song, “oblivion” featuring Common and Ayoni.

Noname’s Sundial Takes Us to “oblivion”

“Sacrificial lambs, scam the church / The whole world berserk, the product is a perk,” the Chicago native begins over production by Berg. While Noname’s work here is impressive, it’s her collaborator’s verse as “oblivion” comes to an end that has us pressing the replay button consistently. “I’m a pallbearer to this fake ni**a era / Gamblin’ life so that I could get better,” the multivalent reflects in the latter half of his turn contribution. “My metaphysics ain’t for the Metaverse / It’s red alerts, I touch where the ghetto hurts.”

Before another weekend of HNHH release recommendations comes to a close, stream “oblivion” featuring Common and Ayoni above. If you’re feeling the collaborative track, make sure to add it to your playlist on Spotify/Apple Music. For those of you who haven’t yet streamed Sundial, you can do so at the link below.

Latto Speaks On Uplifting Other Female Artists: “Let Me Do My Part”

Latto says that she feels obligated to help out other female artists in hip-hop as she becomes more successful. Latto explained that she’s happy to do so during an interview with PEOPLE in honor of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.

“Hip-hop is more than music. It’s a way of life, it’s a culture,” Latto began. “Hip-hop has influenced even other genres of music. We teach people how to dress through our music. We tell them what liquor they should be drinking, and what clubs they should be at, where they should go for vacation. It’s literally so much deeper than music, and I’m very, very honored to be a part of the genre.”

Latto Accepts Best New Artist At The BET Awards

From there, she reflected on her responsibility to assist others in the genre: “It’s been a long time coming for women in rap. I think it is just my duty to do that. We’ve been going 10 times as hard for equal recognition as the men, and I just think it’s my responsibility to bring others up as I go. I see how hard they work and how hard we have to go to literally just get equal recognition. So it’s like, ‘Let me do my part.’ I hope that I’m leaving behind a legacy of just confidence and empowerment for women, and maybe just like an escape from your everyday life and just turn on some Latto and feel empowered, feel like anything is possible, and I’m not taking no for an answer.”

Speaking of Latto’s success, her music hit 1 billion streams on Spotify, earlier this year. She was also nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards in February. In 2022, she dropped her second studio album, 777.

Alabama Barker’s Mom Says Her Rap Career Is “Amazing” & A “Natural Progression”

Alabama Barker has the benefit of being Blink-182 icon Travis Barker’s daughter to help her as she attempts to make a name for herself in the music industry. Interestingly, the 17-year-old has decided to pursue a career as a rapper rather than following in her father’s rockstar footsteps. It’s obvious that she has no shortage of confidence in herself. Unfortunately for Alabama, her comment section is often riddled with haters.

Despite the backlash she’s gotten for allegedly blackfishing, Barker continues to move forward and seek out opportunities that will open the right doors for her to grow. We’ve already seen her hanging out with other big names in the game, such as Toosii. Elsewhere, the blonde’s mother made it clear that she’s in full support of the path Alabama is paving for herself. “I think her rap career is amazing. My kids were raised on a tour bus from the time they were born,” Shanna Moakler told Page Six.

Alabama Barker Already Has Friends in the Industry

“Every creed, every race is going to love hip-hop and rap that’s not gonna change,” Moakler further pointed out. “So for me it is a very natural progression for [Alabama], because she’s been in the studio with her father with the greatest musicians in the world.” Barker’s mom said she thinks that both Travis and Alabama have a “deep respect” for the genre of rap. She also believes her co-parent wouldn’t allow his daughter to make any big moves without that kind of respect.

“They literally travelled the world numerous times over with some of the biggest musicians, rap artists and hip-hop artists in the world, and [for Alabama’s] generation right now the highest genre of music is hip-hop and rap,” Shanna doubled down on her defence. If you’re curious to learn more about Alabama Barker before she blows up, check out our full report on the up-and-coming nepo baby at the link below. Lakeyah Puts Her Spin On J-Kwon’s “Tipsy” With “In Da Club” From “The PixTape EP”

As J. Cole recently pointed out, the women of rap have been holding it down in 2023. It may have taken the genre over half a year to generate the first No. 1 hip-hop album and single, but still, the content we’ve heard coming from our favourite female artists these past few months has been incredible. Last New Music Friday (August 4), several up-and-comers, Lola Brooke, Flo Milli, BIA, Lakeyah, and Doechii came together to show their stuff with help from Angie Martinez and DJ Diamond Kuts on The PixTape EP.

Today, we’re spotlighting Lakeyah’s “In Da Club,” which finds the 22-year-old making great use of J-Kwon’s “Tipsy” beat. “One, here comes the two to three to the four / Every b**ch around me want the milli’ and amor,” Lakeyah reimagines the original lyrics on the first verse. “A ni**a whisper to me that he tryna see me more / I whisper back, ‘I am not a b**ch you can afford,’” she confidently continues just a few bars later.

Lakeyah is “In Da Club” This Summer

As AllHipHop notes, J-Kwon’s classic song peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2004. It appeared on his Hood Hop LP, which also boasts tracks like “You & Me” featuring Sadiyyah and “My Enemies” with Jermaine Dupri. The last album we heard from the rapper was his self-titled effort in March 2010. While he’s not generating hits like he used to, it’s certainly nice to see the industry pay homage to the past generation of artists.

Listen to Lakeyah’s confident “In Da Club” track above, and if you’re feeling it, be sure to add it to your playlist on Spotify/Apple Music.
