Eve Sells Her Catalog In Multi-Million Dollar Exchange

JAY-Z did once tell Eve as she was looking to make it big in rap, female rappers “don’t really do that well”. That message to the Philadelphia native did ruffle some feathers online once she released her memoir, Who’s That Girl? But Eve did clarify that there was no ill will coming from Hov. In fact, she labeled it as a “very amazing phone call that I needed”. “I always felt like I was the underdog anyway. He wasn’t saying it out of malice or [to be] mean. That wasn’t about that. It was facts, really. But I was like, eh, OK, let me see. I’ma show you. It’s all good. And it went on to be fine”. Eve is certainly doing just swell, especially now that she has just sold her entire back catalog.

According to a new report from Music Business Worldwide (via AllHipHop), the “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” MC worked a deal with Iconoclast for millions of dollars. To be more specific, she’s receiving anywhere from $25-$50 million. The founder of the firm Olivier Chastan released a statement celebrating the purchase while also giving Eve her flowers. “Eve’s contributions to hip hop and popular culture are unparalleled”. he began.

“She’s not only a great artist but a true pioneer for women in the genre. We are honored to help preserve and elevate her incredible legacy, ensuring that her influence continues to inspire future generations of artists and fans alike”. The brand also went on to label her as a “pioneer”, as well as saying, “Eve became a defining voice in hip-hop, known for her lyrical prowess, dynamic flow, and unique fusion of rap and R&B influences”. Congratulations to Eve for this tremendous sale and for inspiring so many women in hip-hop!

Eve Claims Janet Jackson Saved Her Life During An MTV Afterparty

Eve has been making hits for decades. The first lady of Ruff Ryders has rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest and brightest that hip hop has had to offer. Her path to superstardom was not easy, though. The rapper detailed her music industry experience in her new memoir, Who’s That Girl?. One of the most harrowing incidents divulged in the book occurred at the 2007 MTV Awards afterparty. Eve claimed that her drink was spiked, and were it not for Janet Jackson, things could have gone bad.

Eve claims she became hysterical when she attended the aforementioned afterparty. She suspected that something had been slipped into her drink when she wasn’t looking. Fortunately, Janet Jackson showed up to save the day. “Missy came in to check on me, but I was just unable to collect myself,” Eve recalled. “Then who walks in, Janet Jackson.” The rapper noted that she had never met Miss Jackson prior to this MTV encounter. Despite this, Jackson sprung to her aid. “She just sprang into action and told people to get aspirin, water, hot sauce, and a piece of white bread,” Eve wrote. “That concoction knocked me right out of my hysteria.”

Eve has maintained a reverence for Jackson ever since the afterparty incident. “Basically Janet Jackson saved my life,” she asserted. This is not the first time the Ruff Ryders icon has discussed this experience. She talked about her lone Janet Jackson encounter during a 2018 appearance on CBS’ The Talk. There were even more details shared, in fact, when Eve opened up to hosts Sharon Osbourne, Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert and Sheryl Underwood. The rapper claimed she was taken to a bedroom where she began to cry. She also noted that Jackson put her at ease by telling her not to stress. “And she’s like, ‘I got this, don’t worry, relax, calm down,’” Eve explained.

There are several other notable stories littered throughout Eve’s memoir. Many, thankfully, are more positive and uplifting than her MTV afterparty experience. The rapper recalls working with Dr. Dre and Gwen Stefani on her smash single “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” in 2001. She also detailed the struggles she was forced to overcome as a female rapper in a predominantly male field. Given that she was the third female rapper to ever top the Billboard 200, we’d say she figured it out.

During a conversation with Sway on his Sway In The Morning SiriusXM show, Eve spoke about her new memoir which details her journey from chart-topping rapper to philanthropist, actress, and beyond. Eve opening up about her struggles and triumphs, her early days breaking barriers in the male-dominated rap industry to her candid reflections on challenges like her DUI and the pressures of fame.

While speaking with Sway Eve opened up about her experience as a dancer for two months and quitting the day after she met Mase.

Sway Calloway: The last day you danced, what happened?

Eve: So, the night before is when I met Mase and he was like, “What you want to do?” It was a slow night and I was like, “I want to rap,” and he was like, “Well, let me hear you,” and we rapped a bit. He was like, “Yo, you’re kinda dope.” He was like, “Why don’t you get dressed and we can ride around the city, and we can just listen to music,” and I was like, “I’m not coming with you. If my homies ain’t coming, I’m not coming. I don’t know you.” He was like, “Alright, be cool. Relax.” He was like, “My homeboy is with me. They can drive in the car with him, and they can drive behind us,” and that’s exactly what we did. Literally drove around until the sun came up, listened to music, homegirl’s in the back, went to his sister’s house when the sun came up, had some food. We fell asleep, the girls. When I woke up, he was gone and did not see him again and I stopped that day. I was like, “Never again.”
