Why Did “L&HH” Wait To Fire Erica Mena? Reality Starlet Addresses Spice Drama & Losing Her Job

It’s been over two months since MTV and Love & Hip Hop producers made the call to fire Erica Mena for calling her co-star, Spice, a “blue monkey” during filming. When the incident unfolded in real-time, the actress claimed she didn’t receive any sort of backlash from creators. Instead, she proceeded to fulfill her work obligations as per usual. When the episode finally aired, however, Mena was blasted by many viewers, causing her to ultimately lose her job. During a new interview with Carlos King, the 35-year-old addressed the situation. She noted that she thinks it could’ve been handled in a far more professional manner.

“When it happened, I knew I f**ked up that day,” Mena recalled. “But then I was filming for months and months. I knew it was coming, but I wasn’t expecting it to be this bad,” she added, reflecting on the non-stop headlines about her in the final weeks of summer. “What’s not okay is [that] if this is as bad as the network says it is, why wasn’t I let go of a long time ago?” the New York native asked the question on many people’s minds.

Erica Mena Reflects on Spice/L&HH Drama with Carlos King

Elsewhere in her chat with King, Mena explained what was running through her mind during her infamous fight with Spice. “In that moment, when she mentioned my son, I was so f**king thrown off,” the embattled entertained vented. “Just months prior, when I found out about her situation, you know what was the first thing I thought about? Her kids. God forbid something happens to them.”

Some tired social media users are suggesting that it’s time to drop the topic of Erica Mena being let go from L&HH. Interestingly, that’s not the only old story the reality starlet is making headlines for discussing this fall. Her 2013 affair with DJ Envy has also come up in more than one conversation, and Mena was more than happy to detail her experience with the radio host. Erica Mena Details Affair With DJ Envy: “I Got A Phone Call From The Wife”

Erica Mena has spoken out about her 2013 affair with DJ Envy, revealing that she was unaware he had a wife until she received a phone call from Gia Casey. The former Love & Hip Hop star reflected on the relationship during a new interview with Carlos King.

“That came out right when I got on Love and Hip Hop, and we had just broken up because the wife found out, which I was totally oblivious to. I knew about the kids, mind you; I have a kid, but I have a baby daddy, and it’s more common where we come from to have kids, but you’re not married; you just got a baby mama,” she told Carlos King. Mena added: “I knew about the kids, and it was always told to me [she was] his kid’s mother, never wife. And I didn’t get that realization until I got a phone call from the wife.”

The comments come amid a rough stretch for both Mena and Envy. Mena was recently fired from Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta after using racial slurs during an argument with Spice. DJ Envy, on the other hand, is currently wrapped up in a scandal of his own after his longtime business partner, Cesar Pina, was arrested for fraud, last weekend. Erica Mena Weighs In On Israel-Palestine Conflict: “This Is Literally A Genocide”

Erica Mena broke down into tears while discussing the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine on Instagram Live, earlier this week. The post comes after Mena was fired from Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta for using a racist slur during an argument with Spice, earlier this year.

“I love y’all, I appreciate y’all. I just want to clarify that because I really don’t want anyone to feel any type of way towards me,” she prefaced her comments, “I just really cannot be quiet knowing this is going on. This is literally a genocide in 2023. And us as Americans, we should do our part. We live in a free country, let’s be free to do what’s right for humanity, not religion, not land, not government, not politics, humanity.”

From there she admitted that the topic is “affecting” her and thanked fans for their continued support. When The Neighborhood Talk shared her video on Instagram, fans had mixed responses. “Girl. Please. The slurs you use freely are remnants of the genocide black humans have faced. Just go back to sleep, chile,” one user wrote. Another wrote: “Erica pleaseeeeeeee this ain’t how you come back, hang it up and try again.” Check out Mena’s full post below.

On Saturday, she took her support to Twitter: “My heart hurts so much for all these innocent children, babies, women and the elderly. An actual genocide is happening right now and so many are quiet about it. Embarrassed our country is the funding behind it.” Be on the lookout for further updates on the conflict on HotNewHipHop.

Bow Wow Might’ve Shaded Erica Mena On Instagram, Fans Call Him Out

Bow Wow’s latest Instagram Live has fans feeling a certain way, because they think he’s playing around being petty. While it’s a pretty innocuous situation, it didn’t take long for viewers to connect the dots and see the potential shade on display. Moreover, he responded to people talking about the streaming service Tubi during his stream, and he said he had never heard of it before. The Columbus, Ohio native’s chat found it pretty eyebrow-raising, and proceeded to flood his comments with claims of cap, telling him to be forthright with them. That’s because Tubi not only hosts some of his own filmography, but also that of his ex-fiancée, reality star Erica Mena.

“Tubby?” Bow Wow remarked, mispronouncing the app’s name and, according to viewers, faking ignorance. “I don’t know what that is. Everybody talking about Tubby- I don’t know what the f**k y’all talking about. I don’t know what that is. Y’all cr*zy. I don’t know what y’all talking about.” A friend who was with him eventually corrected his pronunciation and said they’d talked about it before. Still, the Like Mike star couldn’t remember it in the moment, or he just decided to keep playing along with fans.

Fans Think Bow Wow Side-Eyed Erica Mena In This Instagram Live Clip

For those unaware, Erica Mena and Bow Wow seem to be on relatively good terms right now, with the latter sending love to the former on multiple occasions since their split, especially recently. However, things were actually pretty nasty between them at one point, with the rapper threatening to release the Love & Hip Hop alum’s sex tape. In addition, she accused him of physically abusing her and various other partners and women back in 2019. Even though things seemed to slow down, fans think this IG Live indicates there’s still some bad blood.

Of course, they both have their own careers, scandals, and lives to take care of right now. In fact, they might just be so busy that they have no time to sit down to stream some content on any other service that isn’t one of the top dogs. Jokes aside, it seems like this will most likely stay a fan theory. For more news and the latest updates on Erica Mena and Bow Wow, log back into HNHH.

Erica Mena Says Bernice Burgos Is Her Skin Colour Goals, Responds To “Blackfacing” Backlash

After a rough few weeks of being one of the most-talked-about reality stars in America, Erica Mena felt that the time was right for a vacation. She and some of her closest friends are currently soaking up the sun together, and the former Love & Hip-Hop cast member has been surprisingly active on social media. Seeing as she’s still in hot water for referring to Spice as a “monkey” on Love & Hip-Hop, we assumed Mena might be fixing to take a break from the public eye. However, according to her latest livestream, she’s got plenty of exciting projects in the works, and some ambitious goals for her physical appearance.

While broadcasting to her Instagram followers, the New York native proudly showed off her curvy booty in a string-cut bathing suit. “I better leave here the same colour as Bernice,” she told her company off-camera while floating in the pool. “If I’m not Bernice’s colour, I’m not getting on that plane,” Mena said with a smile, referring to Drake’s former lover, Bernice Burgos.

Of course, it wasn’t long before Mena began to face criticism for aspiring to darken her complexion after insulting a Black woman. Thankfully, there were a few people who came to her defence. “She’s referring to Bernice because they are both of Hispanic/Latina culture. Practically saying how can she hate Black as a skin colour when her nationality produces the same skin colours,” one person inferred on @theneighborhoodtalk’s post.

“Who wouldn’t want to have Bernice’s beautiful colour?” Mena asked when sticking up for herself in @theshaderoom’s comments this afternoon. “Especially on vacation,” she continued. “The fact that I actually do get colour naturally in the sun ALL my life and it’s now being considered as me blackfacing is pathetic.”

Erica Mena Says Mona Scott-Young’s Trying To “Save Face” Amid Slur Controversy

At the end of August, Erica Mena got into a verbal altercation with Spice on an episode of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. Things went South after Spice claimed Mena’s son “hates” her, and Mena flipped a table. She then went off on Spice, telling her that she “should have died” amid her recent, nearly-fatal hospitalization. What got people’s attention the most, however, was the fact that Mena repeatedly called Spice a “blue monkey.”

Mena’s use of the slur then led to a great deal of backlash for the reality star. Eventually, she was even fired from the next season of the show. Earlier this week, Mena called out MTV producers for continuing to film with her for a short while after the altercation aired. Producer Mona Scott-Young later commented on her concerns on Way Up With Angela Yee, and it doesn’t look like Mena was a fan of her response.

Mona Scott-Young Claims She Isn’t Behind Cuts Anymore

“That machine is self-sustaining,” Scott-Young explained, suggesting that she’s no longer involved with cuts on the show. “I am not in the field, and I know it’s hard for people to understand that. Which is why, you know, it’s like a double-edged sword right?” Mena responded to the clip with some shade, bringing light to a post Scott-Young made on Instagram earlier this month. Scott-Young’s post was a simple black backdrop along with the word “handled.” According to Mena, this was simply Scott-Young’s attempt to make herself look better amid the controversy.

“Sooo @monascottyoung your saying that fake Olivia Pope post wasn’t you ‘handling’ anything. Just you desperately trying to save face just like the network is,” Mena wrote. “Got it.” What do you think of Erica Mena’s response to Mona Scott-Young’s statement on her firing? Erica Mena Claims People “Want To Be Offended” By Slur Controversy

At the end of last month, Erica Mena got hit with some major backlash after her argument with Spice on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta got out of hand. The two of them got into it at a restaurant, and Spice ended up telling Mena that her son “hates” her. This resulted in Mena flipping a table, before calling Spice a “blue monkey.”

Countless viewers called Mena out for her use of the slur, and ultimately, she was kicked off of the show. Though MTV cut ties with Mena amid the backlash, they continued filming for a short time after the debacle took place. Some footage of Mena discussing the incident with her castmates has been making its rounds online, showing Mena claiming that people just “want to be offended” by her comment.

Erica Mena Claims She’s “Just As Black” As L&HH Castmates

In the clip, Mena claims that she went off on Spice because she brought up her son. Yandy Smith then explains to her that her attempt to offend Spice managed to offend everybody of African descent. “No, It’s you guys that want to be offended by it. It has nothing to do with you,” Mena responds. “It is 2023. Why as minorities are we comparing ourselves to that?” she asks. Mena then went on to defend her decision to pop off on Spice. She also seemed to defend her use of the term, however, she quickly circled back to clarify her statement.

The b*tch crossed the line, she violated me by coming for my son, and I would do it all over [again] if she does it again,” Mena says. Smith then asks her what she meant by “do it all over again,” wondering if she meant using the slur. “I didn’t say I would say the same thing,” she clarified. Later in the clip, she says, “I’m Puerto Rican and Dominican. I have Black in my family, I have Black children, I married a Black man.” She continues, “There’s not a racist bone in my f*cking body, I’m just as Black as probably all of you.” What do you think of Mena’s recent comments?
