A few days ago, The Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences (aka the Television Academy, the organization behind the Primetime Emmy Awards), shared a list of the “Top 75 Most Impactful Television Moments.” As for how the list was decided, they explained, “In celebration of the Emmy Awards’ 75th Anniversary, we invited Television Academy members to review several hundred programs and news moments submitted by our Peer Group Executive Committees, and to then vote on those they felt have had the greatest impact on the viewing public over the past 75 years.”

Music has long played a major role in TV history, and this new list makes that clear. Two music moments made the top 10: The Beatles’ iconic performance on The Ed Sullivan Show is No. 3, behind only the Apollo 11 moon landing at No. 1 and 9/11 news coverage at No. 2. At No. 9 is the first music video that aired on MTV, The Buggles’ “Video Killed The Radio Star.”

Just outside the top 10, at No. 11, is an Elvis Presley performance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Other notable moments include Live Aid (No. 37); the first season finale of American Idol, which saw Kelly Clarkson named the winner (No. 44); the debut of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video on MTV (No. 48); Justin Timberlake exposing Janet Jackson’s breast during the Super Bowl XXXVIII Halftime Show (No. 61); and Whitney Houston singing the “Star Spangled Banner” before Super Bowl XXV (No. 65).

This list was compiled and shared ahead of the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, which airs tonight (January 15) at 8 p.m. ET (learn how to watch the show here). Ahead of then, check out the full list here.

Lisa Marie Presley Was So Upset About The Portrayal Of Her Father In ‘Priscilla’ That She Emailed Sofia Coppola About It

Just a few months before her death, Lisa Marie Presley had vowed to speak out about Sofia Coppola’s new movie, Priscilla, which focuses on the tumultuous and controversial courtship between Presley’s mother and the late legendary singer Elvis Presley.

According to emails obtained by Variety, Lisa Marie was furious over the portrayal of her father and wrote Coppola in September 2022 shortly before the film started production. Lisa Marie had seen a version of the script and described it as “shockingly vengeful and contemptuous.” Presley also pleaded with Coppola that the film would only further strain her relationship with her mother.

“My father only comes across as a predator and manipulative. As his daughter, I don’t read this and see any of my father in this character. I don’t read this and see my mother’s perspective of my father. I read this and see your shockingly vengeful and contemptuous perspective and I don’t understand why?” Presley wrote in one of her messages.

Presley later vowed to take her fight against Priscilla to the media.

“I will be forced to be in a position where I will have to openly say how I feel about the film and go against you, my mother and this film publicly,” Lisa Marie wrote.

While Presley wouldn’t get a chance to contest the film, Coppola did respond to her emails. The writer/director reportedly wrote back, “I hope that when you see the final film you will feel differently, and understand I’m taking great care in honoring your mother, while also presenting your father with sensitivity and complexity.”

According to Variety, the film is based on the book Elvis and Me, and prior to Lisa Marie’s complaints, there were already efforts to “tone down” some of the book’s elements about the couple’s relationship that would not play well with modern audiences.

Priscilla is now playing in theaters.

Kanye West Once Yelled About Elvis During Tense Photoshoot: Watch

Kanye West is someone who knows how to go viral. Although he may not always be trying to do so, he finds a way. Much of this has to do with his immense celebrity. Overall, people are constantly checking for his antics, which leads to all of the wild headlines. In fact, sometimes, old footage of Kanye comes to light, and it brings forth some new storylines. Even last night, his album with Dr. Dre, Jesus Is King 2, was leaked in its entirety. It was a huge event for Ye stans, although some still don’t care.

One piece of footage that leaked online was video from a photoshoot in 2018 with Heji Shin. At one point, the photographer asked Ye if he could pose like Elvis Presley. Subsequently, Ye got upset and revealed just how disrespectful that request truly was. “I don’t want nothing that look like Elvis — he stole!” Ye said. “I’m talking to fake Elvis’s right now. Give me an African pose. Fuck I’ma do? I’m Ye posing like fucking Elvis?” Eventually, Kanye calmed back down and smiled at the photographer.

Kanye West Speaks In Unearthed Footage

While speaking to Interview magazine a while back, Shin got to speak on this photoshoot and how it got testy at points. “He’s very aware of this dynamic between making images and being made into an image, and he felt uncomfortable being directed,” the photographer explained. “I could identify with him. For instance, he told me he wouldn’t do poses. He would only look straight ahead into the camera.”

Ultimately, this entire scenario just showcases Kanye’s creativity and his awareness in practically every situation. He knows how he wants to portray himself, even when people are going to disagree with him. It hasn’t always worked out in his favor, but it has been something he has remained consistent with. Priscilla Presley, Elvis Presley Estate Torn Over “Priscilla” Movie

Elvis Presley’s career is resurging since last year’s Baz Luhrmann film, Elvis. Now there’s an upcoming movie, Priscilla, set to release in October 2023. Priscilla Presley, the ex-wife of Elvis and the focal point of the latest theatrical release, is on record praising what is essentially an adaptation of her book. Directed by Sofia Coppola, the movie stems from Priscilla’s 1985 memoir Elvis and Me, putting the spotlight on their early romantic relationship. While Priscilla Presley might be enjoying this rollercoaster ride of a movie, others are definitely not.

Multiple officials connected to the Elvis Presley estate are lambasting the film, calling it a travesty among other things. “It feels like a college movie,” one official said. “The set designs are just horrific, it’s not what Graceland looks like.” They call out Coppola’s writing and directing as “horrible.” Meanwhile, Priscilla told TMZ, “I am very excited to see the interpretation of my book by the masterful Sofia Coppola. She has such an extraordinary perspective and I have always been such an admirer of her work.”

What We Know About The Priscilla Presley Movie

The film stars Jake Elordi as Elvis and Cailee Spaeny as the titular Priscilla. Prestige production company A24 is releasing Priscilla. The movie will try to capture the magical essence of Elvis’s Graceland back in the day, placing the audience in Tennessee during the ’50s and ’60s. Whether it’s successful in this effort is yet to be seen, and is already a topic of contention. Elvis Presley’s estate is appalled, while Priscilla Presley is ecstatic. Fans of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll will have to decide for themselves this fall.

Priscilla Presley has been in the news quite a lot recently. In fact, she might be boosting the movie for monetary reasons. She just settled her legal battle with her granddaughter, Riley Keough, over who was to control Lisa Marie Presley’s trust. (Lisa Marie was Priscilla’s daughter and Riley’s mother. Tragically, she passed away earlier this year.) The settlement had Riley paying Priscilla over $1 million. Perhaps Ms. Presley is looking for a second financial boost from Priscilla.

R.Kelly’s Legal Team Suggests He’s Unfairly Targeted, Cites Elvis Presley Dating 14-Year-Old

R. Kelly’s legal team asked a federal judge for a short sentence in his Chicago case and claimed they unfairly targeted him. The convicted star could serve decades behind bars. His team wants the judge to reduce the sentence of his Chicago conviction to 11 years. Also, Jennifer Bonjean asked U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber if Kelly can serve that sentence during his 30-year sentence. Furthermore, the latter stems from a 2021 federal racketeering case in New York.

According to his legal team, the R&B artist’s Chicago case could have rolled into the New York one. Instead, Bonjean alleges her client unjustly faced a “piece-meal prosecution by the federal government.” The request appeared two weeks before the singer’s sentencing date on February 23 on charges of child pornography and criminal sexual activity with a minor in Chicago. As officials determine whether to add to his 30-year sentence, Kelly, 56, might sit behind bars until at least his late 70s. Moreover, Kelly’s trial in Chicago began right after his New York sentence for exploitation, bribery, racketeering, and sex trafficking.

Kelly’s legal team also argued the precedent set by other high-profile music-related cases. For example, Elvis Presley started dating his wife Priscilla when she was just 14 years old. In addition, Bonjean cited David Bowie, Jerry Lee Lewis, and several other musicians who received similar accusations with no prosecution. In a 34-page sentencing memo, the lawyer claimed that prosecutors and society took particular aim at Kelly. Moreover, she referenced “a unique, unprecedented contempt for Kelly that is wanting as to his similarly situated white counterparts.”“[Kelly] was a damaged man in his late 20s with an extraordinarily traumatic childhood that he failed to confront,” she stated. Also, she mentioned his abuse at the hands of a family member and friend, suffering gunshot wounds, and helplessly watching a childhood girlfriend drown.

R. Kelly’s legal team asked a federal judge for a short sentence in his Chicago case and claimed they unfairly targeted him on Friday (February 10). Moreover, the twice-convicted star already could serve decades behind bars. As such, his team wants to reduce the sentence of his Chicago conviction to 11 years. Also, Jennifer Bonjean asked U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber if Kelly can serve that sentence during his 30-year sentence.
