Austin Butler And Vanessa Hudgens Get Awkward At Oscars Party

Austin Butler and Vanessa Hudgens shared a few awkward encounters at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party. While spirits at the party were at an all-time high, it was not without some uncomfortable moments. The two movie actors have quite a history together. In fact, Austin Butler and Vanessa Hudgens were together for over eight years. Their long-term relationship ran its course in 2020, however, and the two are no longer an item. The news initially upset many fans, as the two were known to be a power couple.

The actors were never spiteful towards each other in public. However, the tension in the air was thick at the Oscars after-party. In several photos and videos, the two can be seen trying to avoid interacting with each other at all costs. Austin attended the party with his current girlfriend, Kaia Gerber. At one point, Vanessa attempts to sneak past the lovebirds inconspicuously. She is polite and does an awkward dash between the new couple and the cameras. However, as she passes by, Austin can be seen quickly casting a glance at her.

Austin Butler Watches Vanessa Hudgens Walk Away

No words were spoken between Austin Butler and Vanessa Hudgens. But fans of both parties are acutely aware of how uncomfortable the situation is. Many can relate to bumping into an ex in public, or around mutual friends. And while both actors have moved on, an almost decade-long relationship can be hard to cast aside. Regardless, both Butler and Hudgens remained polite. Their ability to not be petty or vindictive most likely stems from their mutual breakup. The two ended their relationship due to the stress of their jobs, not for lack of love.

Austin and Vanessa became official in 2011. Now, Vanessa is engaged to Cole Tucker, a professional baseball player. No hard feelings seem to linger between the former couple. In fact, Austin heavily attributes his recent success in the Elvis film to Vanessa’s encouragement. But due to their long-term love affair, seeing each other at the party may have been harder than either of them is letting on. Check back in to see if any new drama arises from their brief meeting.

Lizzo And Austin Butler Sang ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’ And They’re A Perfect Caroling Pair

Lizzo seems to really love Christmas. She’s already declared herself “100 percent that Grinch,” day-drank with Seth Meyers amidst holiday decorations, and delivered a powerful cover of “Someday At Christmas” on Saturday Night Live this month. Lizzo served as the SNL musical guest for the Austin Butler-hosted December 17 episode, and now, Butler and Lizzo are continuing to spread holiday cheer on TikTok.

Lizzo, TikTok’s top artist in 2022, posted a delightful 15-second snippet of her and Butler singing “We Wish You A Merry Christmas.” The caption teased, “If we show up as Christmas carolers at your house wyd?”

Both stars have plenty to celebrate from this year. Butler became a bona fide leading man as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic, while Lizzo dropped Special. Her first album in three years housed “About Damn Time,” a No. 1 hit, and sparked The Special Tour, which will continue into 2023. Lizzo also won an Emmy for her Lizzo’s Watch Out For The Big Grrrls competition series, earned the People’s Champion Award at this month’s 2022 People’s Choice Awards, and released an HBO Max documentary.

Special is nominated for Album Of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Album — while “About Damn Time” is up for Song Of The Year, Record Of The Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Remixed Recording — at the 2023 Grammys. In January, we’ll find out if Butler nets his first Oscar nomination like most are expecting.

Cecily Strong Gives Lizzo And Austin Butler A Booming Christmas Gift In A New ‘SNL’ Promo

This week’s Saturday Night Live has a promising set of guests. Hosting the night’s show is Elvis actor Austin Butler, who has garnered much buzz this year for playing Elvis Presley in his biopic. Lizzo, who released her critically-acclaimed sophomore album Special this year, is also having a great year. In fact, this is actually her second time performing on SNL this year. This past April, Lizzo served as both the musical guest and the host on an episode of SNL.

In a new promo for this week’s SNL, Lizzo and Butler appear alongside SNL actress Cecily Strong. Austin introduces himself and Lizzo, the latter of who proceeds to ask Strong, “Did you see the presents we left in your room, Cecily?”

Strong, taken by surprise, replies “You guys got me a present?,” to which Butler answers, “Yeah, you didn’t get anything for us?”

Strong then answers, “Yes, I did,” then proceeds to pull a boom microphone from offscreen. The two are elated upon receiving their new gadget.

“Santa came early, thank you Cecily!,” Lizzo exclaims.

“It’s just what we wanted,” says Butler.

Austin Butler and Lizzo’s episode of Saturday Night Live airs this Saturday, December 17, at 11:30 p.m. EST on NBC, and streams live on Peacock.

Austin Butler ‘Danced And Danced And Danced’ At A Janelle Monáe Concert, He Admits

The 17th season of Variety‘s “Actors On Actors” series has already included the likes of Viola Davis and Jennifer Lawrence and has fans impatiently awaiting the episode with Joe Alwyn and Paul Mescal. The latest installment dropped on Sunday, featuring Austin Butler with Janelle Monáe. The crux of the conversation was Butler’s leading man turn in Elvis and Monáe’s standout performance in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. But there was room for Butler to make an endearing admission.

At one point Butler asked Monáe about their upbringing in the Baptist church, and Monáe noted they appreciated that Elvis made clear that its titular icon borrowed heavily from Black artists. Butler then shared that he went with director Baz Luhrmann to a Nashville church after he was cast to observe gospel singers, which taught him about “what movement means in music when you can’t help but move because your spirit is being moved.”

“I’ve only had a couple moments before filming Elvis where I danced in public because I was very, very shy. I’d always be a wallflower at party,” Butler told Monáe. “One of them was at that gospel church, and another was at one of your shows. You moved me in such a way that I couldn’t help but move. [I was with] some of my friends, they said, ‘Austin, I didn’t know you could dance.’”

He continued, “But you were up on stage and I was in the audience, and I just couldn’t help but dance. It was so beautiful.”

Monáe was visibly flattered and asked which of their shows Butler had attended. After coyly calling Coachella “the music festival that shan’t be named,” Butler said it was Coachella and recalled, “I danced and danced and danced. I couldn’t stop.”

Monáe played Coachella’s main stage in 2019 as part of their Dirty Computer Tour. The acclaimed set featured a twerk-off with Lizzo.

‘Elvis’ Has Become The Rare Non-Franchise Movie To Cross The $100 Million Mark At The American Box Office

Time was that box office hits were more diverse. Before franchise movies ruled the multiplex, a year’s biggest grosser could be a comedy (Three Men and Baby, 1987), a drama (Rain Man, 1988), or a ghostly romance (Ghost, 1990). Even high-concept extravaganzas could be one-offs (E.T., Titanic, Armageddon). This is a roundabout way of saying that everyone should break out the champagne, because a non-franchise movie just crossed the $100 million mark, and in only four weeks of release.

As per Variety, this weekend, Elvis — Baz Luhrmann’s over-the-top biopic about the King — crossed a benchmark, bringing its cume to a whopping $106.2 million. It’s still in the top five (albeit in the fifth slot), behind a three franchise movies (Thor: Love and Thunder, Minions: The Rise of Gru, and Top Gun: Maverick), as well as another non-franchise entry: Where the Crawdads Sing, which chalked up a respectable $17 million for third place.

Elvis stars Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’s Austin Butler (who did not — we repeat notpunch Ezra Miller in the face at a Tokyo bar) as the one born Elvis Aaron Presley, whose life and career are both made and derailed by his manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks, in a fat suit and with an unplaceable European-Southern accent). It’s clearly bewitched audiences, though it is a bit strange that none of Presley’s songs have suddenly creeped back into the Billboard 100, as Stranger Things help do to ‘80s tunes by Kate Bush and Metallica. In a just world, “Polk Salad Annie” would crack the Top 10.

Diplo And Swae Lee Shake, Rattle, And Roll With ‘Tupelo Shuffle’ From The ‘Elvis’ Soundtrack

The soundtrack for Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Elvis biopic continues to show off its unexpected eclecticism with another new song from Diplo and Swae Lee titled “Tupelo Shuffle.” The song also features Gary Clark Jr. and the film’s star Austin Butler and is built atop an interpolation of Elvis Presley’s 1954 cover of Arthur Crudup’s 1946 blues hit, “That’s All Right Mama” (Clark plays Crudup in the film). The upbeat, bluesy sample is different from anything we’ve ever heard from either Swae Lee or Diplo and evokes the loose-limbed energy of a juke joint at its highest spirits.

It’s a prime example of the kind of reinterpretations of the Elvis hits and deep cuts found elsewhere on the soundtrack. The previously released Doja Cat single, “Vegas,” likewise uses an interpolation of Elvis’ 1956 rendition of Big Mama Thornton’s “Hound Dog” to dismiss a wannabe lover. Meanwhile, the soundtrack is also set to feature such eyebrow-raising additions as Denzel Curry, Eminem, Jack White, Kacey Musgraves, Maneskin, Nardo Wick, Stevie Nicks, and Tame Impala.

While the soundtrack selection is a big look for Swae Lee — who’s become somewhat of a go-to for these things (see: Into The Spider-Verse and its smash single “Sunflower” or Shang-Chi‘s “In The Dark” with Jhene Aiko) — he’s apparently looking forward to getting back to his old Rae Sremmurd shenanigans with brother Slim Jxmmi for Sremm4Life soon.
