GloRilla Explains Why Men Like Her Music

GloRilla says that men enjoy her music despite not typically listening to female rappers. She discussed why she feels this is the case during a recent interview with Rolling Stone.

GloRilla explained: “I know a lot of dudes, they won’t ride around listening to no girl that sound like a girl, because they going to be like, ‘Oh, I’m being pussy.’ But they hear me and now [they say], ‘She slick sound like one of us.’”

“I say shit that’s for females, but it’s stuff that n****s can say in reverse,” she further argued. “I actually like going through shit sometimes, because it makes me perfect my craft.” It’s not the first time GloRilla has spoken about her voice. She previously told The Cut that she was insecure about her sound earlier in her career.

However, GloRilla also says that she plans on exploring new styles on her upcoming debut album. “I don’t want to be labeled as just a ratchet rapper, you know what I’m saying?” she told the outlet. “I’m going for different vibes — stuff that everybody can relate to. Of course I’m going to put my ratchet, fun shit out, because that’s what I blew up with. [But] I want to actually talk to people, let them know … I can talk some real shit. I can go gospel. I can do a little R&B.”

With the exploration in style, GloRilla did admit to Rolling Stone that she’s nervous. “I ain’t going to lie, I’m super nervous. I know people expect so much out of me,” she said. “When they look at me, when they mention my name, they put me up there with the big dogs like Cardi, Nicki, Megan. I’m like, ‘Damn, I got to deliver like them.’ This got to be a Grammy-nominated album. And it’s going to be.” Be on the lookout for more details regarding GloRilla’s album in the coming months.

Timbaland Wants To Commercialize AI Software For Artists

Timbaland recently caught some flack online for taking advantage of AI software, which is pretty much the biggest controversy in music right now. Moreover, he used an artificial intelligence program to use Biggie Smalls’ voice on one of his own beats, which some people weren’t happy with. While it’s certainly a fun hypothetical to work with, detractors believed it to be a form of grave-robbery and a cheap way to make money off of another artist’s inability to make music. Regardless of the backlash, the legendary producer clearly knows what the risks of AI might be. As such, he wants to make it easier for artists to use it properly.

Furthermore, Timbaland recently revealed that he’s looking for ways to commercialize AI software in a few different ways. According to the Virginia native, artificial intelligence is an “unprecedented world of creativity in music.” His new plans aim to help burgeoning creatives garner “more success,” make melodies more easily, and give “exclusive rights” to people who want to use the voices of “music legend[s] who [are] no longer with us.

Timbaland’s Next Hopeful Moves With AI Technology

Of course, not everyone in the music industry is particularly happy with this new technology. Even if you see many of the positive elements of artificial intelligence in music, many seem to focus on its negative possibilities. That said, maybe Timbaland’s endeavors actually set a precedent of regulation and proper use when it comes to AI. Sure, it’s quite non-specific at the moment, but the potential is there. Interestingly, though, the 51-year-old’s efforts seem specifically focused on deceased artists, not current artists being replicated, so there’s always more areas to explore.

Back to his Biggie “collab,” the “The Way I Are” artist recently said in an interview that he will hold off on releasing the track until the Brooklyn legend’s estate gives the all-clear. That probably won’t change people’s minds as to whether they agree with this software’s proliferation or not. Despite all the controversy around AI at the moment, its vast possibilities really depend on what precedents the industry sets for it- and how much money they make. As such, any stab at the AI industry is a dangerous but hopefully well-intentioned one. For more news and the latest updates on Timbaland, check back in with HNHH.

Azealia Banks Says Her “Voice Has Matured” Ahead Of 2 New Albums

Azealia Banks says that her “voice has definitely matured a lot” and has plans to release two new albums. She discussed her upcoming music during a recent interview with Dazed. Speaking with the outlet, she revealed that she’s recorded 50 songs for Fantasea II, and another 25 for Business & Pleasure. She describes the new music simply as “rap,” but cites Spanish drill and some R&B.

“My voice has definitely matured a lot, and I feel really sexy when I sing now,” she says in the piece. “When you’re younger, especially when you come from theatre like I do, you’re kind of listening to yourself as you sing to make sure that you sound pretty. But I don’t care about sounding pretty. Because I’ve realized that I’m fucking gorgeous.”

Elaborating on her new music, Banks explains that she’s never operated within one genre. “I do have some house songs, but a lot of my category is technically electronic music, and people really do gloss over how great of a traditional rapper I am,” she continues. “I’ve done everything. I’m singing opera on ‘JFK.’ I’m doing dembow on ‘Salchichón.’ I’m doing bossa nova with that cover of ‘Chega de Saudade.’ I put out a fucking Christmas record. I just like music.” Business & Pleasure will be a follow-up to Banks’ only studio album, Broke with Expensive Taste. She dropped that project back in November 2014. In the time since, she released an EP and a pair of mixtapes.

Elsewhere in the interview, she discusses her store, CheapyXO, her frustration with people considering her to be making a comeback, and more. At one point, she remarks, “People are always like, oh, it’s the Azealia Banks redemption arc. But who the fuck am I redeeming myself for? You should be trying to redeem yourselves for me.” She also stated at another time, “I never left. I’ve always been here.”

Freddie Gibbs Clowns Tristan Thompson

While loads of rappers claim a lot of talent and skill in the game, only a select few have the chops to moonlight as stand-up comedians. Freddie Gibbs is at the top of that pantheon, and he recently clowned Tristan Thompson for a TV interview. Moreover, he took to Twitter to upload a video of Thompson speaking on Kyrie Irving’s trade request. Also, he specifically spoke about potentially linking back up with his Cavaliers teammates Irving and LeBron James. “One thing about LeBron, he makes the game so simple,” Tristan remarked. “That’s why he brings the best out of Kyrie, but all his teammates. I was mad they broke the team up the first time. So, I text Kyrie, I said ‘Time to get the gang back together.’ Because it can happen on the West Coast.”

Later, in the background, you can hear Freddie say “N***a, please” and laughing in a deep-toned, fancy accent. Presumably, he made fun of the light tone of voice and charming smiles that Thompson displayed on TV. Nevertheless, that’s what many caught onto in his Twitter replies. “Why he sound so nutrasweet?” one user replied. Another commented, “I was not expecting this n***a voice to sound like this lmaoooo.”

Still, Freddie has his own take on the Kyrie trade. “Kyrie going to the lakers,” he wrote on Friday (February 3). Many seem to agree with him, but also doubt Tristan’s chances of getting on. Regardless of its implications, the revelation spread quick and brought much discussion. For example, LeBron seemingly responded to the news with a simple eyes emoji and crown emoji on Twitter.

Meanwhile, on his part, Kyrie spoke on his desires on Twitter as well. While this situation is still developing, it seems very few can escape Gibbs’ jabs. Even though he doesn’t treat his beefs seriously, to watch him dunk on another is always hilarious. Come back to HNHH for the latest on Kyrie Irving, and for the next victim of Freddie Gibbs’ sharp comedy skills.

GloRilla Reflects On Becoming Comfortable With Her Deeper Voice

GloRilla says that when she first started rapping, she would try to make her voice sound higher pitched. Speaking with The Cut for a new interview, GloRilla explained that she “wanted to sound like a girl.”

“When I first started rapping,” she tells the outlet. “I wanted to sound like a girl.”

From there, she recalled how, during her teen years, her voice began to change. She blames it on picking up smoking. One time, she was in the studio trying to raise her voice, and her friends quickly called her out.

“They were like, ‘You really got bars. Your voice just sound squeaky,’” she says. “I was like, ‘Oh, okay, let me just put emphasis on what I already sound like, just add a lil bit more sauce to it.’”

Eventually, she gained the confidence to rap with a more natural voice. The turning point was showcased on 2021’s “OOOHH” and “Gang Nem.” Eventually, she catapulted into mainstream success with her breakthrough single, “F.N.F. (Let’s Go).” She dropped the track with Hitkidd in 2022. The song is up for Best Rap Performance at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.

Later in the interview with The Cut, GloRilla expressed her excitement about attending the ceremony, next month.

“I’m super-excited and super-nervous because a lot of people don’t get to go to the Grammys, you know what I’m saying?” she says. “But I’m just super-grateful. And it happened to me super fast. I’m still taking it all in.”

Although excited, she also admits she’s still “trying to slowly get myself to liking the red carpet.”

“I’m not a good picture-taker,” she explains.
