DJ Akademiks Thinks Ebro & Peter Rosenberg Are Jealous Of Andrew Schulz & Charlamagne Tha God

Andrew Schulz’s recent comments about Kendrick Lamar have lit a firestorm under hip-hop media, and the takes are as diverse and combative as you’d expect. Let’s set the stage: it all started with some K.Dot bars on “wacced out murals,” his new album GNX‘s intro. “Don’t let no white comedian talk about no Black woman, that’s law,” he spits on the cut. Many folks assumed this was about Schulz and his recently viral jokes on Black women, and the comedian himself also thought so. He joked about sexually assaulting Kendrick in response and called him out for perceived hypocrisy. This caused a huge debate among media figures, something that DJ Akademiks is now scrutinizing.

Moreover, Ak specifically reacted to a couple of takes on his livestream, including Peter Rosenberg’s claim that Charlamagne Tha God (Andrew Schulz’s Brilliant Idiots podcast cohost) is giving Schulz a pass to talk smack about Kendrick Lamar. However, DJ Akademiks interpreted that Rosenberg – as well as Ebro – are jealous of Charlamagne and Schulz. He brought up their radio rivalry and their differing levels of extracurricular success as reasons for this alleged disdain.

DJ Akademiks Calls Ebro & Peter Rosenberg “Salty” For Trashing Andrew Schulz’s Kendrick Lamar Comments

“Kendrick calls out schulz for running down black women…” Peter Rosenberg had tweeted about the Andrew Schulz and Kendrick Lamar situation. “more specifically the dudes who let it happen unchecked … schulz responds by saying ‘oh cuz rappers are so pro women’ .. Schulz is no different than Bill Oreilly.. acting like K dot is 2 live crew.. it is a nonsensical response and shows schulz doesnt actually like or understand hip hop… please hear me…not all white guys are built the same..for some of us black culture is not wacky fodder or a means to an end.”

Meanwhile, DJ Akademiks also thinks that there’s a double standard at play here, arguing so via his own beef with Saucy Santana. Ak thinks that the same people who laughed at Saucy’s attacks against him are the same ones criticizing Andrew Schulz for his Kendrick Lamar jokes, which he characterized as a sign of hypocrisy. Nevertheless, as with all things in the Internet discourse, it’s not quite that simple.

Ebro Claims “Nothing Has Ever Come” From Drake’s Payola Allegations

Drake has taken the music industry to task. The rapper is suing his own label, Universal Music Group, and Spotify for allegedly using shady business tactics. Drake believes the two companies used payola and “schemes” to boost the numbers for Kendrick Lamar’s diss song, “Not Like Us.” The industry has been extremely critical of the 6 God as a result. Some believe the Toronto rapper is being a hypocrite, while others, like Ebro Darden, believe he’s setting himself up for a loss.

Ebro discussed the Drake lawsuit during an episode of his Apple Music show. He acknowledged that the rapper has been tremendously successful over the years. He also called Drake out for trying to prove an allegation that has hounded the music industry for decades. An allegation that Ebro suggests is not really true. “I’ve worked in the radio business and the media for 30 years,” he explained. “There’s allegations of payola… I’ve been investigated, people I’ve worked with been investigated and nothing has ever come to fruition.” Ebro assured fans that he has never taken money to promote an artist, and has therefore never been at risk for legal action.

Ebro Assures Fans He’s Never Accepted Payola

Ebro Darden claims that he has never taken money because he believes it “disables your ability to say ‘f*ck off’ when you hate a song.” He believes that any radio personality or tastemaker who would take money would be compromised, because they would be at the beck and call of a given artist or record label. Ebro backed up his claim of not accepting payola by listing off the famous artists who’ve never granted him an interview. “I’ve never sat with Kanye, I’ve never sat with Hov,” he asserted. “Never sat with Beyonce.”

The reason Ebro doubts Drake’s payola allegations is that he believes it takes a lot more to launch an artist. “If it’s as easy as just paying to get your record popping, go,” he asserted. “The truth of the matter is it’s not that easy.” At the end of the day, the radio host believes that it comes down to people’s tastes. “To get popping,” he restated. “That’s the people’s decision.” His example? Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”

Lil Uzi Vert References Ongoing Ebro Feud In New Song Snippet

Lil Uzi Vert and Ebro are on opposing sides of the game. The former is eclectic and eccentric. They have reshaped their style multiple times over, and delighted fans at seemingly every turn. The latter is a vet of the old school hip hop approach. He’s tradition. Ebro has repeatedly criticized Lil Uzi Vert throughout the years, and it appears as though Uzi has finally responded. The rapper decided to send a very pointed message to the radio host in the title of their new snippet: “Ebro Chill.”

Lil Uzi Vert shared the snippet on November 19. The rapper treated fans to 40 songs of the unreleased song, which features a massive, glitchy instrumental. Uzi comes in with their trademark sing song flow and drops lyrics about feeling alone. “I can’t feel, I can’t feel,” Uzi raps. “Sometimes, I feel like life ain’t even real. And you tryna say I was lost, but I can’t fail.” The lyrics don’t reference a specific person, but the hook definitely does. Lil Uzi Vert repeats the phrase “Ebro Chill,” while their trademark ad-libs fill up the back end. It’s not a diss, per say, but it’s definitely a suggestion to the radio host to lay off.

Lil Uzi Vert Urges Ebro To Stop Being Critical

Lil Uzi Vert has never been an especially combative artist. They have spent most of their careers talking about their personal struggles, and their desire to find love. As such, it tracks that a new song pointed at a critic would take a somber, almost sad approach. Uzi doesn’t sound particularly eager to rag on Ebro, it just sounds like they want Ebro to, well, “chill.” It makes sense, given that the host has bashed Uzi within the last few months. Ebro recently spoke on Uzi during a recent live appearance, and claimed they were not a real “rock star.”

Lil Uzi Vert addressed these criticisms during a Complex interview. Instead of bashing Ebro in return, the rapper showed love to the host and partially agreed with his stance. “Ebro is a good guy,” they explained. “When I say rockstar, he’s looking at the fireworks, he looking at all that stuff. I understand that. I wasn’t, especially me being younger, I wasn’t able to explain exactly what I meant.” Uzi’s snippet has been met with praise on social media, with many claiming it sounds better than what they had to offer on their last album, Eternal Atake 2.

GloRilla Claims Fans Fueled JT Feud And That The Two Are “Actually Cool”

GloRilla says that she and JT are on good terms after the two fired off a series of posts on social media at one another, earlier this year. She discussed their relationship during an interview with Ebro Darden on Monday morning, accusing fans of fueling the drama.

“Me and JT are actually cool,” Glo revealed. From there, Ebro brought up the idea of fans fueling rumors of a beef where none actually exists. “That’s kind of the situation that we had. It was the fans. It was super unnecessary, it was really fueled by the fans. And I see that with other artists. The fans always try,” she said. She added that she always tries to steer herself in the opposite direction when she notices fans starting to craft a narrative on social media.

Cardi B also made an appearance at the event, giving a speech in support of the Democratic candidate.

Ebro Reignites Lil Uzi Vert Feud By Claiming They Aren’t A “Rockstar”

Ebro and Lil Uzi Vert do not see eye to eye. They are the Hot 97 version of Joe Budden and Lil Yachty. Ebro represents the traditional approach to hip hop and genre stardom. Uzi Vert, on the other hand, has expanded the parameters and the sound of hip hop. Ebro famously claimed that the rapper would not be able to find longevity in 2016. Flash forward nearly a decade later, and Uzi Vert is still a relevant presence in the genre. According to Ebro, though, they aren’t relevant enough to be given their flowers.

Ebro was asked about his opinion on Lil Uzi Vert during a recent panel discussion. He claimed that he loved the artist overall, but felt they hadn’t delivered on the promise they initially showed. Ironic, given that Ebro had criticisms when they initially started, but we digress. “I feel like, he still hasn’t become the rockstar he said he would become,” Ebro noted. “We’re still waiting.” The bluntness of the response led to laughter amidst those in the crowd. The Hot 97 veteran decided to expand upon his assertions. “The rockstars I know were selling out Met Life stadium,” he said. “They can sell out Madison Square Garden 8-10 times. They got hits on the radio.”

Ebro Believes Lil Uzi Vert Has Underachieved

Ebro drew a similarly sheepish response despite his valid claims. He then harkened back to the claims he made about Lil Uzi Vert back in 2016. He recalled the backlash he got from young fans regarding what he said about the rapper. His ultimate takeaway? Uzi hasn’t delivered. “Like I said before, time will tell,” Ebro said. “Where you at, my guy? Uzi, where you at bro?” The questions became more taunting as the host’s questions wore on. Audience members can be heard laughing and voicing surprise over how brutal Ebro is being about Uzi’s career.

The most fascinating element of the whole Ebro and Lil Uzi Vert situation is that the former has been very complimentive of the rapper at different points in their career. In 2022, Ebro actually defended Uzi Vert in the wake of the backlash to his Eternal Atake album. He claimed the rapper had proven their worth when the album managed to chart three singles on the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 at the same time. “We starting brand new with you,” Ebro said on Hot 97. Apparently, he reverted back to his original stance.

Latto Dismisses Speculation About Her Relationship And Says Fans Don’t Know A Thing

Latto fans are really loving her new album Sugar Honey Iced Tea, and there’s a lot to dissect, enjoy, and take away from her lyricism and songwriting on there. Recently, she sat down with Ebro Darden on Apple Music to speak on this new era, how she feels about the LP, and what she’s excited for in the future. However, one of the most talked-about moments of their conversation was when the Atlanta femcee addressed her relationship, and how much fans have theorized about it. According to her, fans don’t actually know anything about who she’s dating and what their bond looks like, and we’ll have to see whether we eventually find out.

“So, um, assuming the Internet’s correct about who the person is,” Ebro Darden’s comments about Latto’s relationship began. “Do you – Look, I appreciate that y’all keep y’all business to y’all selves. Like, I’m for it, and that is not for promo. But is that… Do you guys enjoy that part of it, too? Like, ’cause some people hate having to be private, some people love being private. Where are y’all at with it?”

Latto Speaks On Keeping Her Relationship Private

“Um, the Internet don’t know a goddamn thing, let’s start there,” Latto replied. “But I like being private. I think it ain’t really nobody business. Like, listen to the music and you’ll know what you need to know.” “Was it hard to write these songs about your personal love life?” Ebro asked. “With other people in the studio, yeah,” she responded. “‘Cause I get to feeling like a simp, and I’m so not a simp. *laughs* Yeah, it’s just so weird, yeah, [to] let that ego go. Really letting my pride down was such a task.

“But yeah, I think it wasn’t hard when I can be in that element, like, fully,” Latto continued. “Like, if I’m sitting in the studio and really just writing my thoughts out. But, like, when somebody right there, I feel like a sucker,” she concluded with a laugh. We’ll see whether or not the 25-year-old go public soon, but based on her own words, keep enjoying Sugar Honey Iced Tea and you’ll know everything you need to know.

Drake’s New Album With Conductor Williams Is Reportedly Dropping Soon

Drake can’t stop. He announces breaks from the music the way other rappers announce retirements, and none of them stick. The last time the 6 God claimed to be taking personal time, he dropped the critically adored Scary Hours 3. It sounds like he’s getting back into a similar headspace. There hasn’t been a lack of Drake material in recent months, but Ebro dropped a bombshell during the July 30 episode of the Ebro In the Morning podcast. He claimed that the Toronto rapper is going to be dropping an album very, very soon.

Ebro didn’t play coy with his seemingly exclusive information. He came right out on the podcast and made it clear that Drake is in full-on rapper mode. “I heard Drake’s got a project this year,” he told his cohosts. Laura Stylez chimed in, teasing fans with an impending release date. “I heard that it’s coming sooner than we think,” she asserted. The most exciting bit of information, though, came from the third host, Peter Rosenberg. He claimed that Drizzy has been in the studio with Conductor Williams, and the two have been churning out songs together. “I also heard that he has a whole project’s worth of music done with Conductor Williams,” Rosenberg noted. “Which is the opposite [of recent Drake songs], very hip-hoppy.”

Drake And Conductor Williams Worked On FATD

Fans of For All the Dogs know the magic Drake and Conductor Williams can make together. Williams was responsible for producing “8AM In Charlotte,” which is considered to be one of Drake’s best songs of the decade. He also produced “Stories About My Brother” on Scary Hours 3. The song also contains some of Drizzy’s best rapping in years. If the claims made by the Ebro In the Morning crew are true, than fans will be getting lyrical Drake. It’s possible that not all of Williams’ beats make the final cut of the album, but given their track record, we hope most of them do.

Conductor Williams detailed his working relationship with Drake during a 2023 interview with Complex. “[Drake] is a crafts person,” he said. “And also a person of the arts. That was the main bond. The respect was mutual in that way. He made it so comfortable for me to be myself to where I start sending him the ideas that I’ve always had.” The producer then claimed that Drizzy was one of the greatest artists of his generation. “You got the greatest, one of the greatest artists,” he asserted. “Again, I’m going keep saying this, one of the greatest of my generation inspired to write. Let’s catch lightning in the bottle.”

Ebro Reacts To Method Man’s Criticisms Of Summer Jam

Over the weekend, Wu-Tang Clan legend Method Man took the stage at this year’s Hot 97 Summer Jam alongside Redman. Though the pair seemed to deliver a performance up to their standards, Meth wasn’t happy with the results. He took to social media following the performance to claim that he wouldn’t be back at the legendary festival. The reasons he gave were that the crowd was no longer there for him and the generational divide was too large.

In the comments and all over social media fans speculated what could have led to the underwhelming reception from the crowd. Some speculated that the lineup of the festival didn’t do the pair any favors. Headliners for the show included numerous contemporary artists like Doja Cat, Sexyy Red, and Ty Dolla $ign. They weren’t the only veteran acts on the roster as Eric B & Rakim also took to the stage. Despite that, many speculated the fans weren’t familiar with Method Man’s music or style. Earlier this week, Ebro and his Hot 97 radio co-hosts discussed what Meth had to say and the reasons for his bad experience. Check out some of their discussion below.

Ebro In The Morning Reacts To Method Man Comments

One of Ebro’s co-hosts claimed that the audience just wasn’t used to seeing an actual rap show. “It felt like the crowd wasn’t used to seeing a real show. They were kinda like staring in amazement. There wasn’t booing or any of that. This is crazy — they’re rapping,” DJ Kast One said. They went on to compare the performance to Method Man’s set just a day before at Roots Picnic, which apparently had a much more involved energy.

What do you think of Ebro and his co-host’s reaction to Method Man’s claims that he isn’t coming back to Hot 97 Summer Jam anymore? Do you think the festival is to blame for the bad experience he had with the crowd in attendance? Let us know in the comment section below.

Fans In Disbelief Due To Kendrick’s “GKMC” Making It On The Apple Music Best 100 Albums Over “TPAB,” Ebro Attempts To Explain Why

A lot of die-hard music fans, especially hip-hop heads, have been debating and venting their frustrations over the last couple of days. The reason for that is because of a new list that Apple Music completed earlier today. Experts and musicians collaborated to come up with the Best 100 Albums of all time were based on some rigorous criteria. However, people are taking this list as a slight on many artists behalf. One of those includes Kendrick Lamar, who wound up getting one placement on the Apple Music rankings. His 2012 record good kid M.A.A.D. city (Deluxe) went on to land in the seventh spot.

While you certainly cannot argue the impact and greatness of this record, fans felt that another album of his was severely snubbed. His 2015 To Pimp A Butterfly, did not only not score a higher ranking, but it did also not even make the final cut. That may be the bigger argument here, as fans online are making the claim that both of the albums should have been on the list. It is a fair point to make, especially since several artists got the luxury of receiving multiple spots like Beyonce, for example.

Fans Are Not Buying Ebro’s Explanation For Kendrick’s GKMC Over TPAB

Ebro, one of the main contributors to these rankings, has already had to explain himself. Not too long ago, he hopped on X to break down the criteria they used to make each selection. Now, the famed figure in hip-hop is attempting to calm the angry mob over the Kendrick picks. In a recent sit down to talk about the final 10 albums, Ebro led the charge as to what the reasoning was for GKMC over TPAB. To sum things up, he said that because of the album’s divisiveness at the time of release, as well as its dense and detailed listening experience, they felt it was not as universally adored as much. You can check out the clip in full with the link above.

What are your thoughts on the explanation as to why To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar did not make the Apple Music Best 100 Albums? Was Ebro’s perspective acceptable, or do you think both should have made the list? What do you think of the list overall? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Kendrick Lamar and the Apple Music Best 100 Albums list.
