Drake Is Bringing Back OVO Sound Radio On A Brand New 24-Hour SiriusXM Station

In 2016 and 2017, Drake dropped his Views and More Life albums respectively and a big part of the projects’ rollout, as well as the debut of fellow OVO artists and different acts from across the music world, was thanks to the Toronto rapper’s OVO Sound Radio show on Apple Music.

From the show’s start in the summer of 2015 to its eventual end in 2018, a number of artists would debut new music on the platform including Drake’s “Hotline Bling” and “One Dance.” Many even credit a 2016 set on the platform as the first time they heard Ella Mai’s music. Well, nearly three years after OVO Sound Radio stopped airing regular episodes, Drake announced that it would be making a return on Thursday night.

The rapper shared the news in a rare post on Twitter. “Going live tonight at 10:30pm EST with the return of OVO Sound Radio and the launch of our 24 hour station SOUND 42 a new experience on @SIRIUSXM” he said. A notable aspect of the announcement is that the radio show was moved from Apple Music to SiriusXM. It’s unclear why he opted to switch platforms but after nearly three years away from the radio show, Drake may have just felt like a change was in order.

The radio show’s launch arrives hours before the release of Scary Hours 2, his upcoming project that looks to hold fans over until the release of his sixth album, Certified Lover Boy.

It Looks Like Drake Is Dropping ‘Scary Hours 2’ This Week

Before Drake dropped his latest album, Scorpion, in the summer of 2018, he released his two-track Scary Hours EP a few months before. Now, it looks like Drake will be employing a similar strategy for Certified Lover Boy, as he has taken to Instagram to apparently announce Scary Hours 2.

In a post from last night, Drake shared what appears to be cover art, which reads “Scary Hours” and features a pair of diamond shapes as well as a parental advisory label. He wrote, “FRIDAY MIDNIGHT,” with a skull and crossbones emoji, suggesting that the release is landing tomorrow.

This follows a March 1 update from Akademiks that read, “Drake told me to sit tight n relax… he said that ‘Whats Next’ record is just a ‘warm up ting’. He’s working overtime creating this next masterpiece… CLB on da way… fr. He also told me he shooting some videos.. prollly drop something this week. The Goat is back. Aubrey Champagne Papi Drake Graham.”

The original Scary Hours came out in January 2018 and was then followed by Scorpion that June. So, if Scary Hours 2 precedes his next album in a similar way, Certified Lover Boy could be out in the world in a matter of months.

Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License’ Just Broke A Chart Record Previously Held By Drake

Though she rose to fame as an actor on the Disney+ hit series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Olivia Rodrigo’s debut single “Drivers License” made her a household name. Since releasing the track, Rodrigo has dominated charts, been in the throes of a teen pop love triangle, received kind cosigns from pop stars like Taylor Swift, and was even name-dropped in a recent Saturday Night Live sketch. Now, continuing with the its success, “Drivers License” is once again at No. 1.

This week, “Drivers License” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the seventh consecutive week. The track is the first debut single to ever spend that long at the top spot on the Hot 100 chart, but that’s not all. “Drivers License” also managed an impressive feat previously achieved by Drake: It’s the first single to spend its first seven weeks at No. 1 since Drake’s 2018 “God’s Plan.”

While the song has hovered at top of the charts for weeks, its apparently continuing to increase in popularity. According to Billboard, “Drivers License” totaled 21.5 million streams in the US and was downloaded 13,000 times this week alone, up 38 percent since last week’s charts. The song also received a healthy boost from US radio stations, as it was spun 67.3 million times on the airwaves, a 13 percent increase from last week.

Drake’s ‘Certified Lover Boy’ Will Reportedly Arrive Within The Next Two Months

As 2020 came to a close, Drake fans believed they would start the new year with the rapper’s highly-anticipated sixth album, Certified Lover Boy. That’s because last October, Drake announced it would arrive at some point in January. Unfortunately, the album was not released last month as he was forced to push it back due to the time and energy he spent repairing and rehabbing his injured knee. The delay did not come with a new release date, so fans were left to continue the wait and hope it would drop sooner than later.

However, thanks to a recent report from YouTube and media personality Akademiks, fans can now expect Certified Lover Boy to drop within the coming months. “‘CLB’ update. I’ve seen some people say, ‘Oh, it was supposed to drop tonight’, as in Thursday night. No. No, it’s not dropping then,” he said while hosting a livestream earlier this week. “Drake told me that it’s going to be dropping before April so he’s not waiting until summer to drop his sh*t. I don’t wanna say before April… April or before.” He added that the rapper wouldn’t make Certified Lover Boy a surprise release because “he’s spent so much time on this project.”

As the wait for his sixth album continues, fans can enjoy new music from Drake thanks to his “Talk To Me” collaboration with Drakeo The Ruler.

Drake Lends His Star Power To Drakeo The Ruler’s ‘Truth Hurts’ Single, ‘Talk To Me’

Drakeo The Ruler’s fortunes have changed a whole lot in a very short amount of time. After spending much of 2018, 2019, and 2020 in prison awaiting trial on gang charges, Drakeo was released in November, then released his mixtape We Know The Truth to general acclaim. Now, he’s secured the biggest look of his career to date, collaborating with Drake on “Talk To Me” from his upcoming album The Truth Hurts, due later tonight/first thing tomorrow morning.

On “Talk To Me,” Drake provides the hooks while Drakeo — yes, this as confusing to type as it is to read — raps, with both addressing the song’s theme of infatuation with a woman. There’s also some light tough talk, as Drake warns the potential love interest that he and his crew might have to get gully in the club. “We might slide on a n**** inside this club, girl, close your eyes,” he croons, somewhat paradoxically. Meanwhile, Drakeo plays aloof, reminding his sex buddy that “You can’t control me, why you acting like the police?”

Premiering the song on Apple Radio, Drakeo told Zane Lowe, “When I was in jail, I was supposed to do something [with Drake] already,” explaining how he actually forgot the song was in the works before he was arrested. “It was kind of crazy to me,” he observed. “I never thought none of this stuff would happen.”

The Truth Hurts is due at midnight ET.
