Doja Cat recently joined Ebro Darden for an exclusive interview, discussing her latest album, Scarlet. The conversation delves into the artist’s complex relationship with fame, her desire for privacy, and the challenges of navigating the spotlight. A key point for Doja Cat is addressing the notion that she hates her fans.
“One thing that I do want to set straight is that you’ll never see a direct quote of me saying, ‘I hate my fans,’ Not once,” Doja Cat says. “But it’s a really big misquoted thing where everybody is saying, she hates her fans. I never said that, but I do like to play with that as a meme.
“It’s definitely something, and I know that people who get it, get it, and I’m fine with that. I don’t need to have to explain my sense of humour or explain comedy to anyone. If people don’t see the joke, then they just don’t see the joke. It’s not my responsibility to have them understand.”
Doja Cat also stated that she is too “fucking famous,” stating, “I’m doing what I can slowly but surely to separate myself from this narrative or whatever this world is that I built. I’m fine tuning it and tailoring it to what I want out of it.
“I feel like it doesn’t matter what you say, it doesn’t matter what some people know. I don’t need to explain myself, I don’t. I don’t need to prove myself to a bunch of people who are just going to project no matter what I say too. There’s people who are incredibly dogmatic. It doesn’t matter what the fuck you do, what you say make, they’re always going to stand by, that person’s evil. Or, that person’s this or that person’s that.”
According to Doja Cat, she lives for all of the public’s attention, whether good or bad. On her album Scarlet, she used several verses across tracks like “Agora Hills,” “97,” and “F*ck The Girls” to address some of the online chatter. While it was clear for most of her bars who she was aiming at, “F*ck The Girls” was intentionally vague.

Yesterday (December 14), during a sit-down with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, the rapper revealed that despite rumors that the track was a subtle shot at frenemy Nicki Minaj or any other musician, it was actually about stan culture (an ongoing feud for her).
“It’s me saying f*ck Stan Twitter,” she said. “There’s that obsessiveness behind it, all the malice towards women in stan culture. The condescending-ness of people being like, ‘Mother, oh my god, queen, mother,’ and expecting them to give and deliver and serve for the purpose of serving and not just expressing themselves. And in the same breath, they’ll insult that person as well as call them ‘mother.’ None of that sh*t is real, that’s where ‘F*ck The Girls’ comes from.”

Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2 includes some of her most introspective work to date, but that doesn’t mean the album rollout took place without any drama. In fact, after the new project landed on streamers this past weekend, the Trinidadian revealed to her Barbz that it was supposed to include a feature from another femcee who she previously made a record-breaking hit with. However, the unnamed collaborator allegedly refused because she was under the impression Minaj doesn’t like her – something the mother of one could only laugh at. While she didn’t drop names, many quickly assumed she was speaking about Doja Cat, who recruited Nicki to join her on the “Say So (Remix).”
“They said that it was a lot of different things, but you know, I didn’t realize, they said that they don’t think I like them,” Papa Bear’s mom recalled her conversation with the other performer’s team. “She passed on it,” Minaj additionally revealed in the comment section.” The internet has been eagerly waiting for a response from Doja, who surprised us by keeping things positive and even shouting out the “Did It On ‘Em” hitmaker during her recent show.
While performing her Planet Her hit, “Get Into It (Yuh),” the California-born creative said, “Thank you, Nicki! I love you… That’s right!” seemingly squashing any rumours of beef between them. As some are pointing out, this is actually part of the original outro of the song on her LP, so it’s not a huge surprise for her to include. At the same time, others are suggesting that Minaj was talking about someone else entirely.

Barbz wanted to glimpse into Nicki’s mind during the stream as they asked about collaborators on the body of work. But when one viewer suggested Nicki link back up with Doja Cat, she revealed that she already tried.
According to Nicki, Doja passed on the opportunity to join forces again on her album. “She passed on it. Firstly, this is Doja Cat’s first time playing in the event. Also, her playing on June 23, 2024 gives her the honor of closing out the festival. In a statement, Roberta Medina, the Executive Vice President of Rock in Rio, spoke about the notable occasion: “To have Doja Cat headlining our lineup for the first time in Portugal is a privilege! It’s going to be four days of great joy to recharge the energy of everyone who passes through the City of Rock. Last month, Doja Cat sat down for a spoof interview with her alter ego, and the results were chaotic — fitting because that’s the word she used when Ice Spice, for Instagram’s Close Friends Only, asked her to describe her 2023 in one word. Ice Spice posted that clip on Wednesday, December 6, but Billboarddropped a separate clip from their conversation that put Ice Spice on the spot.
In the clip, Doja asks Ice Spice to identify her first-ever celebrity crush. “Ugh, it’s so embarrassing,” she responded. After some coaxing from Doja, Ice Spice finally said, “I’m just gonna say it. Dionne Warwick recently paid Kelly Clarkson a visit on her talk show, where the two musicians praised one another. During the discussion, Warwick opened up about how she found out that Doja Cat had sampled her song, “Walk On By,” for the latter’s Scarlet single, “Paint The Town Red.”
As it turns out, Doja didn’t need permission for the sample — so Warwick found out through a sweet story about her granddaughter.
“I didn’t know it had been recorded by her,” she said. “My granddaughter called me and says, ‘Grammy, do you know you’re on a record with Doja Cat?’ I said, ‘Doja who?’”
“Well, apparently, it’s a major hit for her,” Warwick added.
Clarkson then confirmed how much of a hit that Doja’s “Paint The Town Red” is, “Oh no no, it’s huge.”
“I’m thrilled,” Warwick continued. “I hope ‘Walk On By’ is as good for her as it has been for me… They’re great songs, and finally [the kids are] being exposed to some good music.”
Back in 1964, Warwick’s “Walk On By” had reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Decades later, Doja Cat earned her first solo No. 1 hit by incorporating it into “Paint The Town Red.”
