A few years ago, Doja Cat released a song she’d written called ‘Ni***! Aint Sh*.”.and told her fans that the song had been renamed NAS an acronym for the song’s original name. During a recent performance on her tour stop, Doja performed the song, but warned her white audience members not to sing the n-word part.

Doja Cat began making and releasing music on SoundCloud as a teenager. Her song “So High” caught the attention of Kemosabe and RCA Records, with whom she signed a recording contract prior to the release of her debut extended play, Purrr! in 2014.
After a hiatus from releasing music and the uneventful rollout of her debut studio album, Amala (2018), Doja Cat earned viral success as an Internet meme with her comedic 2018 single “Mooo!”. Capitalizing on her growing popularity, she released her second studio album, Hot Pink, in the following year. The album later reached the top ten of the US Billboard 200 and spawned the single “Say So”, of which the remix featuring Nicki Minaj topped the Billboard Hot 100. Her third studio album, Planet Her (2021), spent four weeks at number two on the Billboard 200 and spawned the top ten singles “Kiss Me More” (featuring SZA), “Need to Know”, and “Woman”. Her fourth studio album, Scarlet (2023), adopted a hip hop-oriented sound and peaked within the top five of the Billboard 200, while its lead single “Paint the Town Red” became her most successful song to date, as it marked her first solo number-one on the Hot 100 among eight other countries.
As Doja Cat makes her way around the country with special guests Doechii and Ice Spice, she’s winning over skeptics online and in person. Unfortunately, she’s hit a snag. On Saturday, December 9, Nicki Minaj decided to celebrate the release of her long-awaited album Pink Friday 2virtually with fans. Usually, Nicki would head over to Queen Radio for the informal chat, but with that no longer an option, she turned to online broadcaster Stationhead.
Barbz wanted to glimpse into Nicki’s mind during the stream as they asked about collaborators on the body of work. But when one viewer suggested Nicki link back up with Doja Cat, she revealed that she already tried.
According to Nicki, Doja passed on the opportunity to join forces again on her album. “She passed on it. She said she don’t think I like her,” she said. “I guess our record-breaking No. 1 wasn’t proof.” Fans now believe Doja Cat was originally supposed to appear on Nicki’s song “Cowgirl.” Currently, Lourdiz is the featured artist on the song.
.@NICKIMINAJ says a female rapper had full verse on “Cowgirl” & dropped out due to speculation that she didn’t like them.
However, while performing in Omaha, Nebraska, Doja Cat showed her support, screaming, “Thank you, Nicki, I love you! Pink Friday 2!” So, people online are confused: Is there a silent feud going on between Doja Cat and Nicki Minaj?
When Nicki Minaj announced her Pink Friday 2 album, we knew it would be difficult for her to top its predecessor. On the original project, the Queen of Rap made her mark on the industry thanks to songs like “Fly” with Rihanna, “Moment 4 Life” with Drake, and “Check It Out” with will.i.am. Much to hip-hop head’s pleasure, she picked an impressive roster of collaborators for PF2, though Minaj revealed on Queen Radio earlier this weekend that she was surprised by a fellow femcee who turned down an opportunity to appear on this weekend’s project.
“I don’t wanna laugh,” the mother of one began. “They said that it was a lot of different things, but you know, I didn’t realize, they said that they don’t think I like them,” Minaj told listeners without officially naming names. “After everything The Barbz…” she trolled off as the live chat began flooding with speculation that she’s talking about Doja Cat. Elsewhere, the Trinidadian left a comment furthering the rumours.
“She passed on it,” Minaj told a curious fan. “She said she don’t think I like her . I guess our record-breaking #1 wasn’t proof. The Barbz went hard,” she continued to spill tea, seemingly referring to her guest appearance on Doja’s “Say So (Remix)” in 2019. Even if she didn’t nab another track with the Planet Her hitmaker, we do hear from J. Cole, Lil Uzi Vert, Future, and a handful of other lyricists on PF2, making the wait well worth it.
As first impressions of the long-awaited Pink Friday 2 continue to pour in on social media, the project’s first week sales impressions are looking promising. As of right now, Nicki Minaj’s LP is expected to land atop the album chart, even without a guest appearance from Doja Cat. Read more about the new project at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Firstly, this is Doja Cat’s first time playing in the event. Also, her playing on June 23, 2024 gives her the honor of closing out the festival. Last month, Doja Cat sat down for a spoof interview with her alter ego, and the results were chaotic — fitting because that’s the word she used when Ice Spice, for Instagram’s Close Friends Only, asked her to describe her 2023 in one word. Ice Spice posted that clip on Wednesday, December 6, but Billboarddropped a separate clip from their conversation that put Ice Spice on the spot.
In the clip, Doja asks Ice Spice to identify her first-ever celebrity crush. “Ugh, it’s so embarrassing,” she responded. After some coaxing from Doja, Ice Spice finally said, “I’m just gonna say it. It was Usher. I saw him at the Met Gala for the first time I ever seen him. I’m like, ‘Oh, my God. It’s him.”
“He’s beautiful,” Doja said, and Ice Spice agreed, “Gorgeous man.”
According to Billboard, “The full podcast episode of Close Friends Only, produced in collaboration with The Unwell Network, will go live across streaming platforms including Spotify, iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts and YouTube on Thursday [December 7].”
Dionne Warwick recently paid Kelly Clarkson a visit on her talk show, where the two musicians praised one another. During the discussion, Warwick opened up about how she found out that Doja Cat had sampled her song, “Walk On By,” for the latter’s Scarlet single, “Paint The Town Red.”
As it turns out, Doja didn’t need permission for the sample — so Warwick found out through a sweet story about her granddaughter.
“I didn’t know it had been recorded by her,” she said. “My granddaughter called me and says, ‘Grammy, do you know you’re on a record with Doja Cat?’ I said, ‘Doja who?’”
“Well, apparently, it’s a major hit for her,” Warwick added.
Clarkson then confirmed how much of a hit that Doja’s “Paint The Town Red” is, “Oh no no, it’s huge.”
“I’m thrilled,” Warwick continued. “I hope ‘Walk On By’ is as good for her as it has been for me… They’re great songs, and finally [the kids are] being exposed to some good music.”
Back in 1964, Warwick’s “Walk On By” had reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Decades later, Doja Cat earned her first solo No. 1 hit by incorporating it into “Paint The Town Red.”
Check out the clip of Dionne Warwick talking about Doja sampling her above.
“Doja’s well-versed in the online chatter about her, and systematically dismantles every complaint in her Scarlet Tour set, which is presented in five acts and finds her confronting both the haters and the unhinged alter ego her latest album is titled after,” Williams wrote on November 3, following Doja’s show at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.
Doja Cat is her own online critic right now. On Thursday night, November 30, The Scarlet Tour rolled through Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Afterward, the multi-platinum-certified artist express frustration on her Instagram Story.
“I’m so f*ckin sorry,” Doja cat wrote atop a photo of either broken-up bread or a broken-up chip. “New Jersey I don’t know what the f*ck that was. I’m really not happy with my energy tonight.”
The night before, November 29, was an entirely different story. Doja was very happy with her show at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. She posted an Instagram carousel alongside the caption, “best night award goes to brooklyn [gold medal emoji].”
There are seven remaining dates on Doja Cat’s The Scarlet Tour, with the next show scheduled for Saturday, December 2, at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. It will wrap at United Center in Chicago, Illinois on December 13. See all dates here.
Fans can expect to catch Ice Spice at future shows, including stops like Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Boston’s TD Garden, Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, and more large-scale venues. She will also help close out the North American leg in Chicago on December 13, making it a special run. A complete list of Doja’s upcoming tour dates can be found here.

10. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”
Summer (Taylor‘s Version) may finally be starting to fade away, as “Cruel Summer” looks just about ready to leave the top 10 of the Top Songs chart.
9. Tate McRae — “Greedy”
McRae’s hit peaked at No. 4 previously but it’s still bobbing around near the top of the chart, rising two spots from last week.
8. Drake — “IDGAF” Feat. Yeat
A new crop of Drake songs will presumably enter the chart next week with the release of For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition, but in the meantime, his and Yeat’s “IDGAF” is still representing in the top 10.
7. Taylor Swift — “Now That We Don’t Talk (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)”
It feels like Swift will have some sort of chart presence until the end of time, and indeed, this “From The Vault” track is one of the three songs the artist has in this week’s top 10.
Kahan had his commercial breakthrough a year ago with his third album, Stick Season. The title track is crushing it 16 months after its initial release, reaching a new peak in the top 5 this week.
Country music dominated this past summer, and while that trend has mostly dissipated, Zach Bryan is still sticking around with his hit Kacey Musgraves collaboration.
3. Mitski — “My Love Mine All Mine”
TikTok has become a regular hitmaker these days and Mitski is the latest artist to get a boost from the video platform: It’s currently No. 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart for a fourth week.
2. Jack Harlow — “Lovin On Me”
Following the song’s release last week, Harlow’s “Lovin On Me” is seeing some early success by claiming the silver medal on the newest Spotify chart (it’s the only song to debut in the top 10 this week). There’s more to come, too, as Harlow called the track the beginning of “a new era.”
1. Taylor Swift — “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)”
This is the third week at No. 1 for the 1989 (Taylor’s Version) highlight (and it’s the only song with at least 10 million streams in the US this week). Swift previously noted of the track, “I always saw this song as sort of a sister to ‘Out Of The Woods’ and ‘I Wish You Would.’ I kind of saw those songs as similar, so unfortunately, when we were making these decisions on what to put on 1989 and what to leave behind, I had to make some tough choices.”
