Foolio Reportedly Dies At 26 After Tampa Birthday Party Shooting

The hip-hop community is in mourning once again, as according to reports, Jacksonville rapper Julio Foolio was shot and killed in Tampa this weekend. Based on various posts on his Instagram Story, he had been celebrating his 26th birthday with a pool party at a local Airbnb when police shut things down. After that, he and other attendees appeared to move to another location. Some reports suggest that this was a nearby Holiday Inn, where a shooting took place early this morning, killing one and leaving three others injured. Foolio’s involvement in this particular shooting is unconfirmed at the time of writing, however, and the exact circumstances leading up to his reported death remain unclear.

“Y’all took my boyfriend from me. I hate y’all & I won’t be the only one crying [broken heart emoji],” Foolio’s girlfriend Mani Tweeted earlier today. Other associates and loved ones are leaving heartfelt and emotional messages about his reported passing under his recent posts, many of which have to do with his aforementioned birthday celebration. “Rest in power,” one of them wrote today.

Foolio Reportedly Killed At Tampa Hotel

“God thank you for allowing me to see another Year & To celebrate another birthday,” the newly 26-year-old Tweeted on Friday (June 21). “Appreciate all the birthday wishes so far.” In another post, he expressed excitement as he arrived at the Airbnb where he planned to host his pool party. Sadly, this isn’t the first tragic and untimely loss hip-hop fans have seen as of late. Earlier this month, it was reported that 1017 artist Enchanting passed away shortly after being put on life support.

Again, the circumstances leading up to her death are unconfirmed. She was also only 26, and her passing resulted in countless heartfelt messages about her life and lasting legacy. Artists Pay Tribute To Enchanting Following Her Untimely Death

The death of Enchanting has rocked the music world. The rapper was revealed to be on life support the evening of June 10, and she died the following day. Enchanting was best known for her connections with Gucci Mane and 1017 Records, but she received an outpouring of tributes from other artists when news of her death was made official. Some of the artists were former collaborators, others were merely friends who were shocked to see Enchanting die at such a young age.

Omeretta the Great issued a heartfelt statement on Instagram. The rapper collaborated with Enchanting on the 2023 single “Want No Beef,” and included footage of her and Enchanting on the set of the music video in her post. “Chant,” she wrote in the caption. “You just hurt my feelings girl you ain’t deserve this. So damn talented pretty af literally the prettiest. You wasn’t done yet I h8 this.” Omeretta then shifted the focus to Enchanting’s family. “My heart goes out to all your family and friends,” she added. ‘You was so loved out here. “Got ur wings early.”

Multiple Rappers Shared Their Enchanting Stories

Yella Beezy and Tokyo Vanity were two other artists who posted photos alongside Enchanting. The former told the rapper to “rest easy,” while the latter posted a lengthy message that recounted her time with Enchanting. “[We’d] always randomly link up and have the best time,” Tokyo Vanity wrote. “Always calling and texting checking on each other laughing and joking… You were always a good time by friend… You will truly be missed my bby.” Drebae posted tributes to Enchanting on both X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. The first asserted how much it hurts to see young people pass away. The second looked back on the times he spent with Enchanting. “Wish I could go back in time,” he wrote. “Those moments were everything. We love you.”

Gucci Mane, Enchanting’s former label boss, also issued a statement. He posted a photo of the rapper on his Instagram and wrote: “So sad to have to say R.I.P to such a great young lady, a true star. We gone all miss you, Chant.” The circumstances surrounding the rapper’s death are still unknown. Enchanting’s sister broke the news of her dire condition, and Gucci confirmed that she had passed when he posted the aforementioned tribute.

Gucci Mane Artist Enchanting Reportedly Placed On Life Support

Enchanting made quite the impression on Gucci Mane. She impressed the iconic rapper so much that she was signed to his 1017 record label in 2020, when she was only 22 years old. She’d already put out multiple projects, but it was the co-sign that really kicked her career into high gear. Enchanting dropped her debut 1017 project, No Luv, in 2022, and never looked back. Shockingly, the rapper’s trajectory was sidelined on June 10. According to Enchanting’s sister, she was placed on life support.

The revelation came from the Facebook of the aforementioned sibling, Kayy Jayy. Enchanting’s situation was not given much in the way of context or cause, but the revelation led to widespread assumption that she had already died. Several outlets posted articles and messages claiming Enchanting had died at the age of 26. Kayy Jayy subsequently issued another statement refuting these claims on Facebook. “Can y’all stop posting you have actual facts,” she explained. “She’s still fighting, she’s not dead… I’m here at the hospital. My sister is not dead.”

Enchanting’s Health Status Was Confirmed By Her Sister

Enchanting’s last full project was released in 2022, but the rapper continued to be prolific with features and singles. She dropped verses on the 2023 songs “RATCHET MONDAY” by Lonny Cash and “Slide” by Destiny Briona, as well as the 2024 single “Because of You” by Campaign Reezo. Enchanting has gone out of her way to collaborate with other female artists, which she explained during a 2023 interview with Dallas Observer. “It’s looking hopeful for more and more women to just continue to blow up,” she noted. “I feel like it was a male-dominated sport, but now it’s becoming more feminine-dominated. I love that for the girls.”

Enchanting also discussed her passion for songwriting, and how making music also served as a source of comfort. “I feel like music was always something that was easy for me,” she asserted. “I felt like I was musically inclined, always. It was something that I thought should probably put more time and effort into, because it was natural, you know, instead of trying to force a talent.” Gucci Mane evidently thought so, as he not only signed Enchanting but appeared on her singles “Issa Photoshoot” and “Big Chant.” We will provide additional details on the rapper’s condition as they come to light.

Metro Boomin Tributes His Mother On Anniversary Of Her Death

Metro Boomin has been a busy man. The producer kicked off the rap battle to end all battles, between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. He enlisted the former for the number one single “Like That,” and dissed the latter with his “BBL Drizzy” instrumental. Metro has never been more popular. That being said, the super producer took time out from his tour with Future to pay tribute to his late mother, Leslie Wayne, who died two years ago at the hands of her husband.

Metro Boomin posted a pair of photos on his Instagram. The first photo was of him and his mother when he was a child, and the second was of the two of them when he was an adult. The caption made it clear Metro is still reeling from his untimely loss. “Today makes 2 years since Your Physical being has left us,” he wrote. “But I get on my knees and pray every morning that Your Spirit fills and surrounds my brothers and sisters and I more and more each day.” The producer concluded his message with a heartfelt note to Wayne. “I Love and miss You more than could ever be explained or comprehended,” he added.

Metro Boomin Celebrated His Mother’s Life And Impact

The producer’s mother was a topic of discussion due to a recent spat between him and Soulja Boy. Old tweets were unearthed in which Metro Boomin insulted Soulja, and the “Crank That” rapper responded by insulting Leslie Wayne. Soulja Boy recended his comments, however, and issued an apology to Metro via X (formerly Twitter). “I apologize to @MetroBoomin for over reacting over an old tweet,” he tweeted. “Condolences to his mom. I’m going to seek therapy and anger management. I’m done responding to hate, new or old.”

Metro Boomin has opened up about his familial loss on Instagram. In August 2022, the producer posted a message to his fans that detailed his feelings. “Mom was and still is my best friend in the universe. And anybody who really know me know I’ve always been a Momma’s boy my whole life,” he wrote. “This don’t even feel like real life no more; it’s like a nightmare that never ends, and starts over every time I wake up.” In a separate post, he added: “This gotta be what hell feel like ‘cause it’s like my soul just always burning and everything around me constantly burning.”

2 Live Crew Rapper Brother Marquis Dead At 58

The hip-hop world has lost of its Miami bass pioneers. Brother Marquis, born Mark D. Ross, has died at age 58. The rapper made his name as one of the members of the group 2 Live Crew. While he wasn’t a founding member, his personality and rhyming ability make him an immediate standout. Brother Marquis provided classic verses on songs like “Me So Horny” and “We Want Some P**sy,” which remains party anthems to this day.

2 Live Crew started out as a Los Angeles group in 1984, but they didn’t forge their identity until they moved to Miami the following year. Brother Marquis joined 2 Live Crew after two singles, and thanks to his involvement, as well as that of manager/producer Luther Campbell, the group exploded. Their debut album, 1986’s The 2 Live Crew Is What We Are, went Gold. They got even bigger with As Nasty As They Wanna Be in 1988. The album contained the aforementioned hit “Me So Horny,” which featured a verse in which Brother Marquis mentions his own name. The song cracked the top 40, and the controversy that it sparked led to the album going double Platinum.

Brother Marquis remained part of 2 Live Crew for the rest of his life. He did, however, pursue different side projects. He founded the duo 2 Nazty with DJ Toomp, and collaborated with Ice-T on the song “99 Problems,” which was later remade by Jay-Z. Brother Marquis returned to the group that made him famous for the albums Shake a Little Somethin’ and The Real One in 1996 and 1998, respectively. He also continued to tour with an abbreviated 2 Live Crew lineup throughout the 2010s.

Brother Marquis spoke on his musical impact during a 2014 interview with the New Miami Times. “I’m grateful and honored to be a pioneer as far as explicit lyrics,” he stated. “First Amendment rights, fighting censorship, and naked women on the stage. We were responsible for securing a lot of that freedom of speech for everybody.” Marquis is the second member of 2 Live Crew to pass away after Fresh Kid Ice in 2017. 2 Live Crew management confirmed that Marquis had been found dead in his home. There was no cause or additional details provided, however. Unnamed sources tell TMZ that Marquis’ death appears to be natural, with no signs of foul play.

Speaking about their relationship, the Outkast rapper explained the influence Wade had on both his personal life and his music career.

“The last time we were here, we did a residency about five, six shows, and Rico Wade showed up,” he said to the crowd. “Now, one thing y’all don’t know about Rico, Rico Wade…” From there, he got emotional and had to compose himself. “Sorry, y’all. Rico Wade… So Rico Wade made sure my raps were tight. There were times where I would say a rap to Rico in his ears, and he would walk off like, ‘That ain’t good enough.’ So just for a moment, I want y’all to make some noise for King Rico.”

My family taught me how to dream. Taught me how to dream and go for it. Big Boi taught me how to dream, get at it, and go for it. The Dungeon was the grounds for a lot of things.
