Spice 1 Gears Up For New LP With “Gangsta Shhh” Featuring Snoop Dogg & Rick Ross

Spice 1 has not gotten enough love on the HNHH site unfortunately. The Hayward, California rapper has been going strong since the early 90s. He gave his his first record back in 1991 to be exact with his Let It Be Known tape. With well over 20 projects to his name, he deserves a lot a credit for helping shape the West Coast sound. So, we are excited to say that he will be dropping a new record in a couple months. To help promote it, Spice 1 has just released “Gangsta Shhh” with two legends.

Those other two icons are Snoop Dogg and Rick Ross. Since we have not been keeping you up to date on his music output, here is a quick run down. The last time Spice 1 put out a new album was 2022 with Thug Therapy. However, we want to focus on 2019, which is when Platinum O.G. came out.

He will be following up that tape with its sequel, Platinum OG 2, on May 3, according to HipHopDX. It is a nice taster for what should be an exciting return.

MIKE & Tony Seltzer Recruit Earl Sweatshirt & Tony Shhnow For Wavy “On God”

MIKE is one of the more eccentric and ever-changing artists in modern day hip-hop. He can go super lyrical and abstract on something like Faith Is A Rock or Burning Desire. Or he can be looser and dip into more contemporary sounds on Pinball. The latter is his latest offering following a very impressive and diverse 2023 in which those more experimentative projects dropped. One track to make a note of is MIKE’s “On God.”

Pinball is a collaboration tape that sees MIKE working with Tony Seltzer. He is also a native New Yorker like his rap counterpart, hailing from Brooklyn. The tape just dropped today, but leading up to it, there were a couple of singles released beforehand. Those included “R&B” and “Underground Kingz.”

“On God” is one of three tracks to boast a feature. In this case MIKE and Seltzer are teaming up with two other “underground kingz,” Earl Sweatshirt and Tony Shhnow. It is a bit of a weird mix, but they all work together very well. Every rapper on the track gives a subdued performance which complements Tony S.’s woozy and wavy trap-like beat. You will be floating on a cloud after listening to this one.

Future Steals The Show On Meek Mill-led “Giving Chanel”

Meek Mill has been made fun of a ton lately as fans continue to put his sexuality in question. This is happening because of the rumors circling that him and Diddy were in a relationship. Trolls are also having a time of it, especially after Meek Mill shouted out Future on Twitter for his verse on “Giving Chanel.” This track can be found on the Philadelphia rapper’s latest EP.

HEATHENISM is Mill’s five-track project that released this past weekend. The only other feature to be found is Fivio Foreign on “Whatever I Want.” Future and Meek have been collaborators for years. Their working relationship dates back to 2013 when they, along with Fabolous worked on the Dreamchasers 3 cut “Money Ain’t No Issue.”

On this latest joint offering though, Future absolutely dominates “Giving Chanel.” His verse takes up the bulk of the runtime. However, he manages to be entertaining throughout his performance. Hendrix’s fast-paced flow is stank-face inducing and he adds some cool cadences as well. For example, when he rhymes words with long “e” sounds he really draws out the vowel sound. 21 Lil Harold & BigXthaPlug Are Becoming Stars On “Gin & Juice”

21 Lil Harold & BigXthaPlug have been two of the most entertaining up-and-comers as of late. Both borrow from their respective corners of Southern hip-hop. Lil Harold grew up in Atlanta and is a longtime friend of 21 Savage. Which makes sense, considering their stage names are the same and he utilizes the “P***y” adlib quite often with a slightly different delivery. As for BigX, he hails from Dallas, Texas. The 25-year-old possesses one of the best mic presences in modern-day rap with his deep and husky cadence.

Both also have their fair share of bangers and big-time collaborations. Lil Harold had some background vocals on Savage’s third studio album, american dream, earlier this year. You can find him on “dangerous” and “letter to my brudda.” He also had a fantastic single with JID not too long ago. Furthermore, he will be joining Savage, JID, and Nardo Wick for The American Dream Tour that kicks off in May. BigX had a big 2023 with the release of two projects, THE BIGGEST and AMAR. Those saw him work alongside Offset, Sauce Walka, Finesse2tymes and more.

Now, these two soon-to-be-stars are teaming up for the first time on “Gin & Juice.” However, this one shares no similarities to Snoop Dogg’s classic. Skepta Experiments With Afrobeats On Laid-Back “Tony Montana” Featuring Portable & JAE5

There are a lot of artists we are dying to hear new projects from. After a fairly uneventful year in 2023 from the mainstream, everyone is making up for lost time. They are also looking to prove that the genre is still alive and deserves its flowers as one of the top subsets of music across the globe. One of those rappers making a highly-awaited return is Skepta. At the turn of 2024, the UK great announced Knife and Fork, his first foray back into rap since 2020’s Insomnia. Skepta is back to teasing the record with “Tony Montana.”

This is now the third single that will land on his seventh project. He got off to a strong start releasing “Jangrova” back on January 19 with Tribal Mark, ODUMODUBLVCK, and Idris Elba (IDRIS). Then, just a week later, he would go on to put out the controversial single “Gas Me Up (Diligent)” with production from Cardo. Its cover art, which fans believed made disgusting callbacks to The Holocaust, was eventually taken down after pushback from Skepta.

All of that brings us to “Tony Montana,” which is a drastic deviation from the usual sonics we are accustomed to hearing from the grime icon. Skepta goes for more of an Afrobeat vibe, which has been taking over as of late. To help bring some more African authenticity, Portable, a Nigerian singer and rapper delivers the chorus. It is easily the most chill example we have heard out of the three and it features production from JAE5, a popular UK producer.

Conway The Machine, Westside Gunn, & The Alchemist Release Their Physical Copy Exclusive “Halal”

You would be hard pressed to find another rapper who had a more productive and successful 2023 than Conway the Machine. There are a lot of artists that constantly have new music ready, but not many can top the quality of the Griselda affiliate. It was especially incredible to see how the Buffalo native was able to squeak out two records within the last week of 2023. One of those two records was Hall & Nash 2 with Westside Gunn and The Alchemist. It was a nine-song tape; that is if you bought a physical copy. If you did you would be able to hear Conway the Machine on “Halal.”

Additionally, if you were able to snag either a vinyl or CD of the record, the album cover was different. You can see the alternate work up above. Now, everyone can hear this bonus track, as it is currently on YouTube. Conway kicks off “Halal” with signature crackly and gravelly flows.

Bear1Boss & SoFaygo Hop On Their First Track Together With “Conscious”

Auto-tune is probably never going out of style in hip-hop and hopefully it never does. While it can be to the detriment of some rappers, Bear1Boss and SoFaygo use it expertly. The two auto-crooners who have roots in the ATL are bringing their first-ever collaboration to the world as of a couple of days ago. Bear1Boss and SoFaygo’s “conscious” is a futuristic and spacey trap banger with vocal work inspired by Yeat.

Bear1Boss’s “conscious” can be found on his most recent record SUPER BOSS! As we mentioned, Iit hit streaming platforms this past weekend. The project features rage rapper JELEEL! and D3rt as well. If you are not familiar with Bear1Boss, he is a prolific genre-bending talent. He navigates and successfully combines the worlds of pop, rap, and electronic to create his idiosyncratic style.

But, this is not the only major accomplishment for Bear1. The youngster was recently on the evilgiane and Surf Gang record, #HEAVENSGATE (VOL. 1). Back in late September the iconic producer from North Carolina, Jermaine Dupri, put out an R&B jam with Jacquees called “Pick It Up.” Fast forward to early January, Dupri essentially announced that this was going to be the lead single for an upcoming EP. “Yo, what’s up y’all. I’m in here trynna get this mix done, on my new record featuring Nelly, Ashanti, and Juicy J… It’s an EP [I’m putting out] on Mass Appeal.”

Dupri continues, “The first single was with me and Jacquees called “Pick It Up.” This gon’ be the second song. That’s what we on today.” We can officially say that the second teaser is out now.

Vultures 1, Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s highly-awaited team record are finally out. When you go into any Yeezy project, expect a big budget and tons of collaborators. This could wind up being one of his most expensive releases, especially because there are three volumes, sampling, etc. One track that had to have cost a pretty penny is “Fuk Sumn.”

Not only does it recruit the ultimate ragers, Travis Scott and Playboi Carti, but there are also eight producers. Kanye is among Timbaland, JPEGMAFIA, Hubi, SHDØW, VEYIS, Digital Nas, and Chrishan. When you have a ton of creative minds on one song, it could lead to disaster. For “Fuk Sumn,” it is the total opposite, thankfully.

The previous versions of “Fuk Sumn” had Quavo and Playboi Carti on them. But with Ye, we know the first draft is rarely the final copy. Not long before Vultures 1 dropped, Travis was added into the mix. While it would have been cool to hear Quavo on this raunchy and wild party banger, Scott fits right at home on this one. He goes old La Flame in the best way possible. The beat switches help distract you from the fairly boring lyrics. However, “Fuk Sumn” is not about penmanship, it is about having fun and it certainly delivers on that front.
