Ice Cube Taps Killer Mike & Busta Rhymes For Unapologetic Banger “Ego Maniacs”

Ice Cube has a right to have major self-confidence, something that’s extremely prevalent on his new single “Ego Maniacs.” The California native and hip-hop culture icon is getting ready to drop his first solo album in just under six years with Man Down. It drops two Fridays from now, November 22, and it should be a momentous release. Him and his Cali brethren did drop their posse project SNOOP CUBE 40 $HORT back in 2022. However, given the dominance of West Coast hip-hop this year, 2024 needed a new lone tape from one of the coldest to ever do it (pun intended).

“Ego Maniacs” is Ice Cube’s second drop from this project’s rollout, with “It’s My Ego” being the first. If you’re wondering why the titles are so similar, it’s because this latest track is actually a slight remix. The beat from E-A-Ski (who’s producing the album) is a carbon copy. However, where this version differs is that it has some equally legendary guests. Killer Mike and Busta Rhymes hop aboard the bouncy and accessible G-funk instrumental and talk their talk just like Cube. The latter lays down a new verse for “Ego Maniacs” too. You can check out what will be the closing cut from Man Down with the link below.

And back to the motherf***ing basics
N**** keep a .4-4 on ’em, ’cause you’re too two-faced
God damn it, I am it, I’m so dynamic
This guy, god damn it, spit fire, cause damage
I refuse to be moved by these new school antics

Russ Calls Out Hip-Hop Media With Conductor Williams-Produced “Legend Freestyle”

Russ has always been a pretty vocal guy and a controversial one in the eyes of some as well. His passion for the landscape of hip-hop, where he fits within it, and the media’s relationship with the artists, are all topics you can find him speaking on. All three are sort of covered in Russ’ newest song “Legend Freestyle,” produced by Conductor Williams. The latter is discussed, but the Georgia MC is holding back one bit. He’s calling out publications by name and unleashing on the credentials of journalists. “I’m not impressed with editors of Rolling Stone or GQ / Y’all egos crazy if you think that artists actually need you / Y’all don’t move the needle.”

But he doesn’t stop there. “It’s a different game, adapt, just like the rest of us / Critics can’t take criticism but be the first ones disrespectin’ us, p***ies / Cosplayin’ as God like you got power, power.” It’s not anything jaw-dropping from Russ at this point, as he’s been saying this for years. On top of putting the media on blast, he gasses himself up as a legend in the game. In some respects, he certainly has standing to make this claim. He’s been a dominant figure in the sort-of underground, sort-of mainstream lane for over a decade due to his prolific nature. Give the track a spin and see what you think of it and its messages.

Quotable Lyrics:

If you do me wrong I’m in unforgivin’ mood
I make the music that my younger self would love to listen to
Permission to be myself, but I’m not askin’ no more
I starved myself of self-love, but I’m not fastin’ no more
Tell myself that I’m okay, I’m just workin’ on believin’ it
I see all the love and praise, I’m workin’ on receivin’ it

Kal Banx & Isaiah Rashad Connect & Kickback On Mellow “Sunstory”

If you don’t know who Kal Banx is, you may want to do your homework on the TDE (Top Dawg Entertainment) producer. He’s been behind some of the best singles and projects over the last several years. 2024 has especially been a strong year for the steady veteran, though. Banx has his prints all over Doechii’s excellent breakout mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal. ScHoolboy Q got some assistance from him on BLUE LIPS. But don’t think he’s only favoring his label mates. Banx produced Denzel Curry’s “Walkin,” several Baby Keem tracks from DIE FOR MY B****, as well a few from Dreamville’s Revenge Of The Dreamers III.

However, the hitmaker has spent most of his time in the industry lending a hand to other MCs. But it seems like Kal Banx is getting ready to drop his first solo project because he’s back with “Sunstory.” This record comes just a few weeks after the release of “HOP OUT CHO FEELINS” with Smino and Buddy. If you have heard that, it’s a pretty lowkey trunk-knocker with crisp bass and melodic performances. The same goes for “Sunstory,” which features the most chill MC on the TDE label, Isaiah Rashad. These tracks are very cohesive sonically, the cover artworks are almost identical, which means an album has to be on the horizon… right?

I’m on some other s***, I got my niеces in the truck, yeah, ha
I’m on somе family s***, we gotta always keep in touch

Benji Blue Bills & Lazer Dim 700 Are Ready To Get Active On Load Out”

Five-year underground rapper from Georgia, Benji Blue Bills, is back with one of the fast risers in his hometown in LAZER DIM 700 for a new record. It’s actually their first track together and it’s called “Load Out.” It arrives after an Instagram post from the former documenting their link-up. “I fw luh Lazer 👾” Blue Bills wrote about a week and a half ago. Then, yesterday, he shared a teaser of the music video for “Load Out,” which is out now on YouTube.

This track also follows Benji’s third solo project 500k Degrees, which dropped back in late August. As for LAZER DIM 700, he’s been having a nice few weeks himself. In particular, his feature game is thriving. He was on VonOff1700’s “Dead N****s” with Polo G and most recently teamed up with Denzel Curry and Bktherula on “STILL IN THE PAINT.” Overall, “Load Out” is pretty standard fare from both Benji and and LAZER. It’s violent and almost cynical, as well as grungy and dark. Their chemistry is there though, so for fans of each of these MC’s we want to know what y’all think. Check out the single first and then leave your thoughts below in the comments.

JasonMartin (Problem) Comes Back With A Slick West Coast Bop “Killswitch”

JasonMartin, also known as Problem, has been having one heck of an underrated 2024. The underground West Coast mainstay put out a behemoth of a project in June with CHUPACABRA. 17 songs isn’t anything crazy by today’s standards, but it was massive in terms of collaborations. Almost every track had a feature and making this even more stacked was the fact that it was produced entirely by the iconic DJ Quik. It was dropped during the West Coast triumph that was Kendrick Lamar slaying Drake, and it featured a whole bunch of artists from the region. The Game, Big Hit, Larry June, and Jay Worthy are just few, and it was truly another uniting moment overall.

Sometimes with so many voices on one tape, things can get messy and incoherent. But CHUPACABRA was the complete opposite as it was full of bangers from front to back. Given how successful of a release it turned out to be, it would be a mistake to not capitalize on that momentum. So, JasonMartin is doing just that by coming through with a new single, “killswitch.” It’s actually an EP, but it’s a compilation of different versions of the one track. There’s a “Reversed” rendition which puts the last two verses to the front, which in turn changes the structure production wise too. Then, Jason included “Pt. 1” and “Pt. 2” offerings that divide the four verses up. Finally, there’s the instrumental as well. It’s another bop from Jason and Daz Dillinger has some uncredited contributions on the chorus and adlibs that are well done. Check it out below, you won’t want to turn it off.

Boldy James Is Fiery & Gritty On Antt Beatz-Produced Single “Dead Flowers”

There might not be anyone pumping out more music than Boldy James right now. The Detroit native just simply has an unlimited supply of collaborations, singles, and projects at the ready. The former especially because it seems like every week for the past month or so, we have talked about him. So, it’s not a shocker at all that we are covering Boldy James again and the title this time is “Dead Flowers.” If you have been able to keep with his recent stretch of singles, you may remember his team effort with Helluva and Antt Beatz, “Super Mario.” The latter is back alongside the Across The Tracks creator for this trap and hardcore rap cut, and we are hoping a collab tape is coming.

It’s wishful thinking, as nothing has been said about it publicly, but we think it could happen. So, whether or not you decide to run with us on that prediction is up to you. We are going to because it makes this single that much more exciting. But “Dead Flowers” is good on its own too, don’t get it twisted. Boldy once again is spitting fiery and threatening bars over a cavernous production. It’s nothing new per se, but something that we took away from this track is his underrated ability to pen a catchy chorus. “Dead Flowers” has one and it makes the replay value extremely high for us. Check it out and see for yourself with the link below.

Kyle Richh & Cash Cobain Are Seeking “Closure” On Their Sexy Drill Collab

The up-and-coming New York drill trio of Kyle Richh, TaTa, and Jenn Carter, 41, has a formula. They are partiers to the core and almost every track they concoct is meant for the clubs. They’ve been riding with this for the most part since the start of the 2020’s and it’s become their identity. However, sticking to your guns for too long can become too repetitive for some. So, it was smart of Kyle Richh to switch things up, not only for himself, but for the group in the long run as well.

Yes, Kyle Richh, the de facto leader of 41, is riding solo for this new release, “Closure,” and it’s a nice change of pace. Instead of dropping an anthem for the promiscuous, he’s penning one for those who crave intimacy and a deeper connection. From the lyrics, it sounds like Richh is trying to get a girl’s attention and draw her away from another man. He thinks he can do better for her and give her a relationship that’s worth seeing through. The moody and atmospheric beat heighten that sexual intensity, as well as Cash Cobain’s feature. See if this switch-up on “Closure” is something you want to hear more of from Kyle and 41 going forward by checking out the video link below.

If I want it, on bro, I’ma get it, it’s a problem, we’re gonna get through it

Saba Thematically & Lyrically Impresses On Another No I.D. Collaboration “How To Impress God”

Saba has shown us throughout his career that he can write and stick to a theme/message with ease. Both of his last two projects, Few Good Things and CARE FOR ME, have numerous displays of this between them. The one gripe we have with the Chicago visionary is that we don’t get to hear from him more. You can call us greedy, but we think anyone would want to hear more Saba when he’s churning out records like “How to Impress God.” This is the latest release alongside prolific producer No I.D. and one the tracks that will be on their collaborative album.

The project is still in limbo, sadly, as it’s drop date is unknown. There is still about two and half months to go before 2025 arrives, so we are holding out hope it comes then. Saba and No I.D. have now shared four previews From the Private Collection of Saba & No I.D. and this one may be the best yet. On “How to Impress God,” the veteran rapper raps from the perspective of God and how he’s moved by any of his flashy things. On the second verse is where things come together, as Saba (God) says that he intentionally was dealt some problems from other people. The way he handled all of the obstacles, no matter how big, he did so with grace and love. It’s a great message for those who feel they need other people’s approval, but it’s also just a excellent motivational record from Saba and No I.D. all around.

But Saba, you showed love, and that’s all I required

Russ Celebrates His Life Accomplishments Over Conductor Williams-Produced “Ecstasy (Freestyle)”

Conductor Williams is a world-class talent in the producing realm and has been for a few years. His portfolio includes work with Drake, J. Cole, JID, Tyler, The Creator, Westside Gunn, and more. However, unlike names such as Metro Boomin, Southside, Mike WiLL Made-It, and The Alchemist, for example, the solo catalog still needs some bolstering. It’s not bad by any means, but we would be lying if we said we haven’t been waiting for a new solo project. Well, that’s going to happen very soon, thankfully, and it’s looking like it will be on Halloween.

It’s going to be the third installment in the CONDUCTOR WE HAVE A PROBLEM series and the second on DSPs. Currently, only the first from last year is widely available. So far, the Kansas City, MO producer has dropped off one track from it called “Get Away!” featuring Rome Streetz. Frankly, it was an excellent start to the rollout. The only problem is that the track is just under two minutes. For now, it’s looking like this could be a complaint with the album. We say that because Conductor Williams’ second single, “Ecstasy (Freestyle)” with Russ is just a few seconds longer. Again, it’s another great listen. The delicate and soulful production is a dreamy backdrop that accompanies Russ’ victory lap of his lofty accomplishments (helping himself and his family financially). But it’s just too short. Hopefully, we get some beefier cuts, but we can’t gripe too much. Stream “Ecstasy (Freestyle) below.

That Mexican OT, Maxo Kream, & Lil’ Keke Are Battle-Tested On “War Wounds”

That Mexican OT has been having a banner year and it’s seemingly only getting better with the release of “War Wounds.” This is the latest track from the Texas rapper and songwriter, who blew up late last year thanks to the release of the viral “Johnny Dang.” Prior to “War Wounds,” which has guest verses from fellow Texans Maxo Kream and Lil’ Keke, OT dropped off a lowkey cut “1982” with Curren$y and LE$. Nothing has been officially announced yet, but it seems like he’s concocting another project of sorts. He’s already put out Texas Technician, his biggest tape of his burgeoning career.

The 2024 XXL Freshman raps with amazing proficiency, as he rolls his letters to create that now trademark tongue-twisting effect. On “War Wounds,” That Mexican OT is also proving to be a solid chorus writer. Out of all of his tracks, this may be in his top five. The transition from “mosquito” to “wings” is incredibly catchy. Lil’ Keke and Maxo Kream embody OT’s slipperiness on their verses as well, making for a cohesive listen. Additionally, the bass line is groovy and the twinkly keys add a nice eerie effect, as each MC raps about being built tough for all of the BS that comes their way. Check out the Call of Duty inspired music video with the link below.
