The Chainsmokers Team Up With Fridayy For EDM/R&B Crossover “Friday”

The Chainsmokers are one of the most recognized musical artists in the world. Their pop appeal has garnered them tons of radio play and smash singles. Because of that they have been able to work with some of the industries brightest stars like Halsey, Coldplay, Florida Georgia Line, Jhene Aiko, and so many others. Now, they are gearing up for a new album once more. To tease it, The Chainsmokers are working with R&B/soul singer Fridayy for the first time on a new single called “Friday.”

The coincidentally titled track is rumored to be the second promotional song for their sixth project, and first since 2022’s Summertime Friends. However, this will not be an album, rather an EP, and is expected to see a May 10 release, according to Genius. The previous song that is looking to make its way onto the tracklist is “Addicted” featuring Zerb and Ink. On “Friday,” The Chainsmokers produce a mixture of R&B and EDM, something that is not totally new to them.

The beat gallops throughout and it has all the elements of a track that would be great for a late-night drive with the roof down. Fridayy gives a soulful performance, as he sings about a relationship with a woman that feels as if they are moving through life together without a care in the world. He is essentially comparing it to the weekend, and how those days are the week where you do anything and everything you want, that you cannot doing during the weekdays. Its your typical Chainsmokers fair, but with some great singing to go along with it.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “Friday” by The Chainsmokers and Fridayy? Is this one of their better songs as of late, why or why not? Should they collborate again in the future after hearing this? Does this get you excited for their upcoming album No Hard Feelings? KayCyy, Toro Y Moi, & Weiland Are Emotionally Spent On “Hidden Faces”

KayCyy is one of the most exciting names in hip-hop and R&B right now in our opinion. He has so much potential to be one of the best hybrid stars once he eventually drops his rumored projects. According to Genius, the Kenya native has two offerings stashed away at the moment. There are a lot of rumors that he will have both out by this year, after previously teasing 2023 drop dates. It seems we inching closer and closer to the promised land after KayCyy recently put out “Hidden Faces.”

This single is currently only available on YouTube and follows up other tracks such as “My Jeans,” “MOTOWN” with BabyTron. For “Hidden Faces,” KayCyy taps Toro y Moi and Weiland for a somber ballad about falling out of love and feeling emotionally and physically alone. Each singer’s vocals are backed by piano keys and minimal angelic production overall. You can tell by the way KayCyy, Toro, and Weiland are delivering their lyrics that they are in true pain.

As we mentioned earlier, the “THANK GOD” contributor has two projects in the works, and Never Been So Sure looks to be his debut album. Potential features for this record include Toro and Weiland, Swae Lee, 070 Shake, and more. Then, the other offering, WHO IS KAYCYY? might be even more stacked with hopeful appearances from Westside Gunn, VIC MENSA, A$AP Rocky, and Kanye West. Neither have release dates confirmed, but whenever they arrive, we will be amped for the moment.

Normani & Gunna Cannot Resist Each Other On Sensual Lead Single “1:59”

Normani fans have been starved, dehydrated, and all the above waiting for her debut solo album. It has been teased and in the works for years at this point, but not much was known about it. That was up until February when the former Fifth Harmony vocalist revealed the project’s artwork and title. She also began teasing music from it just weeks ago, but the reception was not great. But Normani still has people ready for what she can do on her own with its lead single “1:59” featuring Gunna.

Her supporters might also be thrilled to know that Genius has Dopamine listed for a June 14 release date. That appears to be the confirmed date as well, as Normani has “DOPAMINE THE ALBUM JUNE 14” in her Instagram bio. “1:59” sees the Georgia natives serenade each other, with Gunna even taking on an auto tuned singing and rapping flow. It does not sound too off-putting for those who had doubts about how he would fit on a slow-mo R&B cut.

Normani and Gunna are so infatuated with one another, that even when they are not together, they are always wanting to reunite for an intimate time. Instrumentally, it is nothing that is reinventing the wheel, with its guitar loops and minimal production overall. But it does sound pleasing to the ears vocally and beat wise. Be sure to check out the lead single for Dopamine above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “1:59” by Normani and Gunna? Will this be the best song from Dopamine, why or why not? Does this get you excited for her album? Southside Teases Forthcoming LP With “President” Featuring Destroy Lonely & Ken Carson

Metro Boomin may be viewed as the current king of trap rap, but Southside is step for step with him. The longtime hitmaker from Atlanta, Georgia is always working with the best of the best. It is for good reason too, because he has great synergy with so many legends in Southern hip-hop. Pretty soon, Southside will be dropping his first album in four years and to hype it up, he has a new single out called “President.”

This time around, the “Hold That Heat” creator is teaming up with ragers Destroy Lonely and Ken Carson. Both have been establishing themselves as the future faces of the subgenre over the last couple of years and now they are working with one of the most established stars. “President,” according to a recent press release, looks to be the third single for his unnamed sixth LP. The first of them was 2022’s “Hold That Heat,” which featured Travis Scott and Future.

Then, in late 2023, Southside and Lil Yachty dropped “Gimme Da Lite.” On “President,” the veteran incorporates some stunning synths, horn sections, and rumbling bass. It feels epic, but Lonely and Carson mumble their way through the track, dragging down the hype factor. But, its still a solid track all around and it will be one of the more popular tracks from the record.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “President” by Southside, Destroy Lonely, and Ken Carson? Is this one of his better beats as of late, why or why not? Killer Mike & Blxst Recruit Offset For Extended Version Of “MICHAEL” Cut “EXIT 9”

Killer Mike really put on for the city of Atlanta and the rap genre at the 2024 GRAMMYs. Somewhat controversially, his sophomore solo LP MICHAEL took home three categories at the iconic award show earlier this year. It won over massive mainstream records UTOPIA, HEROES & VILLAINS, Her Loss, and King’s Disease III. One of the consistent arguments against him winning came from fans who are not hip to the rap legend saying things like, “Who is Killer Mike?” But he definitely deserved all the success and now, Killer Mike is taking another victory lap by adding Offset to “EXIT 9.”

Track 10 on the original version of the album, “EXIT 9” only featured California singer Blxst. Additionally, the song was just over two minutes and 40 seconds. But with Offset entering the mix, the record now clocks in at 3:30. As most know, adding another artist to an already great track can achieve mixed results.

But to the former Migos member’s credit, he seamlessly slides into what Mike and Blxst were doing on the reflective song about making it from the bottom. Offset rocks a monotone and lowkey flow as he talks about Takeoff, his late grandmother, and working hard for his respect in the game. All in all, this one of the stronger bonus cuts from MICHAEL. Be sure to check out the new version of “EXIT 9” with the link above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “EXIT 9” by Killer Mike, Offset, and Blxst? Which version of this track do you prefer more now and why? Spice 1 Recruits Stacked List Of Features For “Platinum O.G. 2” Single “Since The Day”

Spice 1, one of the most prolific rappers to come out of California, is just two weeks away from dropping his new project Platinum O.G. 2. According to Genius, he will be releasing the 18-track LP on May 3. The features list looks to be absolutely loaded with legends from top to bottom as well. B-Legit, MC Eiht, Conway the Machine, Rick Ross, and Snoop Dogg are just a mere handful of them. In fact, every song will have at least one guest artist in the mix, which is pretty exciting.

One track that possesses multiple features is “Since the Day.” Spice 1 has released two other singles for the record so far, with the first one dating back to March. That was the Snoop and Ross collab called “Gangsta Shhh.” Then, on April 2, the Conway team-up hit streaming platforms as well. Niontay Looks To Establish Himself On “Halftones” With RealYungPhil & SURF GANG

As we have repeated constantly hear at HNHH, 2023 was a bit of a dud for hip-hop in the mainstream. It was more so the lesser-known acts and underground talents shouldering the load. That is never a bad thing though, as artists that are not quite at the level of a Drake or Kendrick Lamar do not always get enough credit. This year has been a return to form for the top-flight rappers, but the underground is continuing to churn out some fun and interesting material. One artist that is building something exciting is Milwaukee rapper Niontay. The 25-year-old currently resides in Brooklyn, New York and has been making music since 2021. Today, Niontay just dropped a new single “Halftones,” and we wanted to shed light on it.

“Halftones” features RealYungPhil and SURF GANG with a production credit presumably. The 10k signee raps with a druggy flow in a lower register that exudes confidence and an extreme sense of nonchalance. YungPhil also brings a catchy chorus to the table over a dreamy trap beat. All in all it comes together for a cohesive listen that has the potential to do well for Niontay.

On top of the fact that it should do well on its own, “Halftones” should also help carry momentum after a strong 2023 for Niontay. He was busy with features last year, with notable placements for MIKE’s Burning Desire. The beginning of 2024 has also been a productive year in that regard, as Niontay was on MIKE’s recent effort Pinball, and RiTchie’s debut solo tape Triple Digits [112]. Be sure to check out “Halftones” with the link above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “Halftones” by Niontay, RealYungPhil, and SURF GANG? Who had the stronger performance on the track and why? Slimesito Grabs More Production From Evilgiane For “DESIGNER DRUGZ”

The crop of talented hip-hop producers and beat makers continues to expand by the second. One of the new stars that is pushing himself to new heights is Yonkers, New York native evilgiane. The creative and almost avant-garde genius really came into his own last year, especially. He had several viral singles, including his work on “The Hillbillies” with Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem. However, he is more known for his affiliation with the Surf Gang label and its artists. The album that really put evilgiane on the map was his 2024 effort #HEAVENSGATE VOL. 1 and one artist that contributed heavily to that was Slimesito. Now, evilgiane and Slimesito are teaming up just months later for a new single “DESIGNER DRUGZ.”

This track in considered to be for the Maryland rapper and whether or not this is just a loosie remains to be seen. “DESIGNER DRUGZ” features a woozy and futuristic sound that will have you wanting to float in space. Slimesito and evilgiane are definitely on the same wavelength, as the synergy is obvious right from the jump. The “Mafia Business” artist finds a pocket immediately and takes off from there.

Evilgiane has certainly taken off himself and he spoke with The Face just last month and how he feels music is extremely important for him, but also for the world. He feels artists need to be inspirational for one another and they are the catalysts for creation. “Encourage more people to make art, no matter what type of art they’re trying to make. It makes everyone else happy. A lot of people are angry and take it out on others because they can’t express themselves. Art is the easiest way to do that.” He is certainly one of the most expressive names we have going, and we cannot wait to hear more from him and Slimesito.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “DESIGNER DRUGZ” by Slimesito and evilgiane? Is this the duo’s best collaboration so far, why or why not? Headie One, Stormzy, & Tay Keith Unite For High-Profile Collab “Cry No More”

Headie One and Stormzy, two UK veteran rappers are some of the more prominent voices in the drill scene across the pond. In fact, they have a combined 17 years plus of experience and their undeniable chemistry shows up whenever they collaborate. Pretty soon, Headie One will be dropping his new project The Last One, so to hype it up, he just put out a new single “Cry No More.”

According to Genius, the prolific veteran will have it out by June 14. So far there have been two singles released ahead of it. One of them is of course “Cry No More,” and the other is “Martin’s Sofa.” That one is a bit peculiar, since it came out back in January of 2023. In terms of collaborations between Headie and Stormzy, this is now their third ever song.

Also in the fold for this track are high-end producers Tay Keith and Pooh Beatz. Both have crafted up some of the biggest trap bangers here in the states. But they are dabbling in UK drill in this case and it goes over well. Headie One spoke with Complex why he was so happy to work with both of them and why this is one of his favorites from The Last One. “This is one of my favorites from the album. I loved the sample and 808s straight away when Tay and Pooh played it in the studio. Stormzy went crazy on it, too.”

Stove God Cooks & Stoupe Link For Intimidating “We Ballin Again”

Stove God Cooks is always impressive when he drops a new single or a feature. However, the underground New York rapper from Syracuse is someone we have been waiting on to drop a new album. It has been over four years since we got his debut project Reasonable Drought. Even then, it was not even a solo project. It was a collaboration with fellow underground New Yorker and lyricist Roc Marciano. But there is a ton of optimism that maybe some time this year, the Babygrande Records signee will come through with something truly spectacular. The reason why we think that is because of the steady stream of quality singles.

2024 has already been one of his most productive years since starting out in 2020. Stove God Cooks was essentially ready from the beginning with “Melo Chip and a Brick.” The excellent jazz rap cut with dirty horns courtesy of Conductor Williams, and the hungry rapping from SGC all amounted to something rewarding. Then, he came through with “Carbone,” with production from Stoupe on March 1.

Listen To “We Ballin Again” By Stove God Cooks & Stoupe

For “We Ballin Again,” Stove God’s latest offering, Stoupe joins him again. For us, we prefer this over “Carbone” because the instrumental is haunting, and Cooks’ bars are intimidating. He also delivers better flows with animated adlibs, and the awkward chorus is not there from “Carbone.” Be sure to run it up with the link above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “We Ballin Again” by Stove God Cooks and Stoupe? Is this his best song as of late, why or why not? Which element of the track did you find to be more enjoyable and why? Do you think he is getting ready for a new album soon? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section.
