Jay Worthy & DJ.Fresh Reunite For “Part 2” Of “The Tonite Show” Six Years Later

It’s been the West Coast’s year in 2024 thanks in part to Kendrick Lamar. But everyone else has been contributing heavily and with quality we may add. One of the steadiest in the underground from California, Jay Worthy, has been one of them ones this year, and he’s keeping his momentum going with The Tonite Show Part 2. The title may be familiar to some and that’s because this is the other half to the inaugural 2018 tape, The Tonite Show with Jay Worthy. That was a three-way collaborative effort between Jay, its producer, DJ.Fresh, and fellow MC, Mitchy Slick.

This marks the former’s fourth project of the year, with his 2024 featuring Affiliated 2, Magic Hour, and Time After Time. Every single tape has been a joint release, showcasing just how versatile Jay is. He you match him with just about anyone and he’s going to make something great happen. The Tonite Show Part 2 is 10 tracks and just 28 and a half minutes, so it’s not overstaying it’s welcome. On the first entry in this series, Fresh’s beat selection was bouncier and fit more for the summer. Things are a little different here, as the instrumentals feel more lowkey and subdued. It’s got some fans loving and others questioning the directional change as of now, so we want to hear what you have to say. Check out Jay and Fresh’s latest body of work, and then drop your thoughts in the comments.

Conway The Machine & Ransom Announce A Brand-New Collab Project And It’s Coming Soon

Conway the Machine and Ransom were getting some fans hopeful over this past weekend. Two of New York’s underground greats, along with producer V Don and Lloyd Banks, dropped a posse cut, “Higher Killer”. The single is dark and intense, and of course features great rapping from all three MCs. During its release, neither artist involved mentioned anything about it being a lead off track. However, if you were checking out the Genius page for it, it was saying that “Higher Killer” was off a project.

It was listed under Chaos Is My Ladder Too, a collab tape between Ransom, Conway, and V Don. Fans were wondering if this was actually the start to a project roll out last Friday. Now, those suspicions are confirmed, according to HipHopDX. Ransom shared a joint Instagram post with the Griselda affiliate on the main feed with a revealing caption and image. The official cover consists of intimidating black and white portraits of the two rappers.

Hit-Boy, Big Hit, & The Alchemist Link With HitgirlLena For “Black & Whites” Single “Gank Move”

Hit-Boy, Big Hit, and The Alchemist have been hyping up their forthcoming collaborative title Black & Whites over the month of May. They have been doing a masterful job at doing so in our eyes. The legendary trio put together a hilarious trailer by calling back to the 90s comedy film Office Space. They recreated the memorable printer smashing scene nearly to a tee and it was a blast to watch. On top of that, Hit-Boy and his crew have put out some solid singles for the project, including this most recent one, “Gank Move.”

This is now marks the third promotional track we have gotten in the last three weeks. Firstly, The father/son duo and Uncle Al dropped “Foreclosure” just a day after the teaser trailer. Second was the self-titled cut, which saw Al and Big Hit lyrically spar effectively. Now, we have “Gank Move,” which did not get any promotion from any of the album’s creators.

Listen To “Gank Move” By Hit-Boy, Big Hit, The Alchemist, & HitgirlLena

What the previous two offerings had in common was zero inclusion from any guests. However, that all changes this time around, as HitgirlLena joins the fray. This collab appears to have been coming at some point, as evidenced by her Instagram page. She posted a pic with Big Hit and Hit-Boy several weeks ago, which possibly prompted them to hop in the studio together. You can hear Hit and Lena trade verses with the link above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “Gank Move” by Hit-Boy, Big Hit, The Alchemist, and HitgirlLena? Is this the strongest single from Black & Whites, why or why not? Who had the better rapping performance? Will this be one of the better albums of the year, why or why not? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Big-Hit, Hit Boy, and The Alchemist. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

The rapper says, “The time that we had allotted for it we kinda passed by it.” He continues, though, “Not saying that the window can’t present itself again. We have a very healthy relationship.” Hopefully, we get that too. But, we cannot wait for what should be an incredible send-off.

Joyner Lucas Teases New Music With Will Smith

Joyner Lucas is giving Will Smith his flowers. In a sweet and sentimental IG post yesterday (Sept. 25) on Will Smith’s birthday, Lucas shared a video of the two making music together. He also wrote a heartfelt caption to match. “Dear hero,” Lucas started. “I never thought I’d ever meet you. Still trips me out that I grew up idolizing you, to then me making a record about my admiration and respect for you, to then you asking me to create a whole album with you,” he continued. “Happy Birthday @willsmith. Love you til the end of time my dear brother.”

While the recent video clip of Joyner Lucas and Will Smith collaborating on music have caught the attention of fans and media alike, it’s essential to note that their musical connection isn’t just now starting. In fact, Will Smith has shown love to Lucas on social media before. He stated in a Facebook post earlier this year, he deemed Lucas to be his favorite rapper. It’s clear that their admiration for each other’s work extends beyond the surface. Now, the two have a joint album coming together!

Joyner Lucas And Will Smith Seemingly Have A Joint Project On The Way

What truly excites fans is the potential of a collaborative album between these two remarkable talents. Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that this isn’t the first time Will Smith and Joyner Lucas have joined forces in the world of music. Back in 2020, they collaborated on a remix of the track “Will,” a heartfelt homage to Will Smith’s illustrious career in both television and film. Their previous musical endeavor showcased their ability to craft compelling music together, laying the groundwork for what could potentially be a groundbreaking album that transcends boundaries and genres.

Additionally, Joyner Lucas’ appreciation for Will Smith’s influence extends beyond their 2020 collaboration. Earlier this year, Lucas released the track, “Devil’s Work Part 2.” This song goes into a few significant pop culture events, including the memorable Will Smith and Chris Rock confrontation at the Oscars in March 2022. Lucas rapped about a world where Will Smith hadn’t confronted him, and what things would be like, and if Rock chose a different topic to joke about. In essence, fans and music enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the moment when Lucas and Smith can combine their creative forces. Stay tuned to HNHH for any new developments!

Dave & Central Cee Drop Surprise Joint EP “Split Decision”

Collaborative projects come so often these days. Sometimes, it’s awkward pairings of rappers that don’t really make sense beyond the fact that they’re friends outside of hip-hop. However, the release of Central Cee and Dave’s surprise EP, Split Decision is a perfect pairing of two of UK rap’s luminaries. Cee and Dave gave fans a taste of the project on Friday when they dropped off “Sprinter.” However, on Sunday night, Central Cee announced that he’d be dropping off more music to celebrate music.

What fans received was their new project Split Decision, a four-song EP that highlights their poignant delivery and impeccable ear for production. The project includes the aforementioned single, along with three new records. As “Sprinter” showcased, the two have formed a bond that brings out the best of each other on wax. Throughout the project, they put their ruthless sh*t-talking to use while breezing through enchanting production, largely cemented by haunting vocal samples.

Central Cee & Dave Connect On Split Decision

The beauty of Split Decision is that Central Cee and Dave’s chemistry and outlook on the world pair up perfectly. They look back at their London upbringings, detailing the struggles they faced and contrasting those moments with the wealth they’ve accumulated. On “My 25th Birthday,” the two rappers tackle luscious piano chords and knocking drums as they detail balancing their love life with fame, elevating beyond the trap, and maneuvering through the limelight.

Dave’s contributions to the project extend beyond trading bars with Central Cee. He handles co-production on three out of the four songs on Split Decisions. However, the “Streatham” rapper allows Kyle Evans to handle the drill-centric production on the mighty closer, “UK Rap.” The majority of the project is largely filled with airy, laid-back production but Evan’s drill-heavy production puts Cee and Dave on offense as they come through with swaggering confidence and impeccable wordplay. It’s an exemplary effort by two of UK’s most important figures in rap right now. Check out Dave and Central Cee’s new EP Split Decision above and sound off with your thoughts in the comments.

Curren$y & Jermaine Dupri Bring The Bounce On “Essence Fest”

Curren$y and Jermaine Dupri are coming through with some heat this summer. The two rap icons began to hint at a collaborative effort last year but they didn’t necessarily provide fans with too much information on a release date. All we knew is that they had a joint project on the way titled, For Motivational Use Only. Now, there are plenty of collaborative projects that build up excitement only to be prematurely announced and never released. However, this isn’t one of them.

A collaborative album between the two doesn’t seem like an obvious choice, but Spitta never held back his appreciation for JD. Spitta previously released the single, “Jermaine Dupri” in honor of the So So Def founder, which ultimately caught JD’s attention and led to this very moment. Earlier this week, they blessed fans with “Never Enough” via a performance on From The Block. Today, they’re providing the first taste of what to expect with a nod to Curren$y’s hometown.

Curren$y & Jermaine Dupri Bring New Orleans Bounce To “Essence Fest”

Though Spitta’s usually attached to hazy production that pairs up with his smoked out flow, Jermaine Dupri has the New Orleans rapper returning to his regional roots on “Essence Fest.” The New Orleans Bounce comes clear on the production as Curren$y rides the beat effortlessly with a swagger that pulls from his days with Young Money. JD layers funky basslines with second-line drum-inspired patterns that pops out of the record for a perfect introduction to their forthcoming album.

During an interview with Essence, tCurren$y and Jermaine Dupri explained that the effort will highlight the rich history of the South’s hip-hop innovations. However, as the title For Motivational Use Only suggests, they’ll be serving up the anthem for the go-getters. “It’s just more of a real pep talk and a call to arms for people who know that this is their time and people who want to launch businesses, girls who want to open whatever their business is, the homies who want to start their shit,” Spitta said. “This is the no-excuse soundtrack for whoever wants to get out and go get it.”

Quotable Lyrics
All this, all this ‘cause I’m rich
She think she smart, she think she slick
But I break hearts, no favorites
And I play hard, take major risks
Bitch, buy me something if you fuck with me
There’s enough n***as that’s already trickin’

KXNG Crooked & Joell Ortiz Drop Collab EP, “JFKLAX”

Joell Ortiz and KXNG Crooked linked up once again to drop a brand new EP, JFKLAX. Moreover, the title references both MCs’ respective home cities, although that distance doesn’t reflect the quality of the music. In fact, both rappers are in top lyrical form on this project, which is unsurprising given their old-school credentials. Furthermore, you’ll find intricate rhyme patterns, cutting punchlines, and classic flows all over this short five-track offering. That length only adds to the project’s consistency and enjoyability, as they deliver focused verses.

Overall, JFKLAX is also a pretty effective combination of classic boom-bap beats and a more contemporary trap-style beat on the track “Foe Or Friend.” Still, most of this project’s instrumental pallet comes from its heavy sampling. These sonic backgrounds bring triumphant horns, dramatic piano chords, and deep, bassy percussion to elevate the frequent collaborators‘ performance. If you’ve ever liked an East Coast rapper, this project likely holds a captivating beat or collection of verses within.

KXNG Crooked & Joell Ortiz’s JFKLAX EP: Listen

However, not everyone received some of Crooked and Ortiz’s previous collabs well, particularly some of their colleagues. Furthermore, the other two members of their supergroup Slaughterhouse, Royce da 5’9″ and Joe Budden, expressed criticism of the duo’s 2022 project, Rise & Fall Of Slaughterhouse, which did not feature Royce or Budden. “For me, it was a little anticlimactic. It was like a rollercoaster. You watch it go up. It’s going up and it’s going up, and you expect the– and then you’re let down.” After all, they expected the album to be about them, but they didn’t find any such references.

Still, a lot of the group’s disagreements and internal fights are quite unfortunate considering the caliber of lyricism they represent. Regardless, what did you think of Joell Ortiz and KXNG Crooked’s latest collaborative EP, JFKLAX? However you feel, let us know in the comments and check out the tracklist below. Also, if you haven’t heard the project yet, you can find it on your preferred streaming service or on YouTube above. As always, stick around on HNHH for the latest great music releases each week.
